I like it when people are honest about how something looks. Let me know if my butt looks too big or if that dress makes me look preggers. Here, they tell you.. let me reenact this for you
me, "excuse me, do these jeans make my butt look fat?"
Sales girl, "actually, those flatten your butt out way too much. let me grab you another pair."
me, "oh, alright thanks."
HONESTY!
Key for me when shopping. Why you might wonder did I not give 5 stars? Because I cannot afford everything in the store even though I wish I could. boo hoo...

this is a welcome addition to stanford shopping center. they have a wide selection of brands and styles here. though they have a good deal of demin, i don't often like their styles that much. although i know palo alto isnt a particularly fashion forward town, last year they barely carried any skinny jeans. they finally got some j brands but im not a huge fan. they also carry a curiously extensive collection of hudsons, of which im also not a fan. i am kind of biased though. i mostly come here to get my fix of comfy everyday tees from c&c, splendid, james perse, and michael stars. they have a great selection here. they also have a good selection o business casual clothes from many different designers.
though they have a variety of clothing, a lot of the choices are rather questionable. i rarely find something i really like here that i think is worth the money. also, they carry some sandals but besides the havianas, i think they could do better. i think dolce vita is their other main brand. they do however have some really cute jewelry pieces! and some fun candles. the service is uuusually pretty good. most the girls are friendly and helpful and stick around to see you try on the clothes. there are however, a few rather icy girls too.
definitely join their email list! they don't spam you daily and they have some good deals :D

My sister has bought almost all of her Citizens jeans from Mercer, and she really likes the customer service that they provide. She always asks that they call her when they get in any new Citizen styles, which they do.
Today, she was particularly happy with their service because her FAVORITE pair ripped in the knee area, so she called and asked if she could exchange it for a new pair. After speaking to a manager, they said that they would. She went in today and was able to do the exchange without any problems at all.
They definitely have a wide selection of denim (Citizens, True Religion, Rock & Republic, 7), basic Michael Stars tees, Juicy Couture velour, and some cute items for dressing up as well.
When Mercer sends me an email about an upcoming sale is when I decide to head in!!
I just got back from the first day of their Winter Sale, after stocking up on a few....ahhhem.....necessities......Right.....I know I am just justifying. Great prices on casual tops like Michael Stars, splendid, and james perse. Prices on their "non-casual" wear is what I feel it should be priced at normally.
I did find a really cute DVF dress though for $234 but I passed! I need to shape up first!! Head in before their stock is totally depleted and make sure you get on their VIP list so you know when the sale starts next time.
I agree that the customer service is really hit or miss....tonight was a miss as the sales person didn't check on me once while I was in the fitting room!

Mercer has a friendly staff who helps you with all of your styling needs. They are very attentive and really know their denim! I've been in a few times and have spent over an hour in the store drooling over the cute clothes!
What a cute little store! From simple basics such as Michael Stars to sophisticated pieces by DVF, this trendy boutique has a wide variety of contemporary apparel. There is also an impressive denim selection, which ranges in style, wash, and brand.
Customer service, on the other hand, tends to be inconsistent. I've experienced excellent service here, and I've experienced no service at all. Sometimes a few of the sales associates will wander around the store looking very lost and confused. Regardless, I still love shopping here for its coveted merchandise!
This store has a great selection of jeans!
I was shopping for over an hour with my brother who was looking for a pair of dark jeans and could not find a pair of designer jeans that he liked...me on the other hand, walked into Mercer and within ten minutes I found a pair of dark citizens that I ended up buying! My brother was jealous, especially since they don't carry guy's clothes.
The people that work there seemed really nice and were friendly, I wish this store was on University Ave., then I could actually call it a boutique!
They have a lot of designer jeans at the standard prices as well as Juicy, James Pierce and many other good brands. The prices are standard although they do have occasional sales with good deals!
Okay, this is my new FAVORITE local boutique! I call it a boutique even though it's in the middle of Stanford Mall (don't know the proper etiquette here, but what the heck) because this little gem truly stands on its own! This store reminds me of some of my faves in NYC, but shocking it hails from Seattle - go figure.
I am starting my search early for some hot little numbers to make me shine at some upcoming Spring and Summer events. I have added a few killer vintage items to my collection that I want to mix with some hot new designer duds - Mercer has the perfect blend of these great new pieces. You can peruse such names as Cynthia Vincent, Rebecca Taylor, Vince and so much more.
One of the greatest things about shopping here is that the clothing and accessories are arranged by wardrobe, not designer or color - makes it so much easier to add to the piles & piles to take to the dressing room. Right now they are stocked with everything Summer - if you can't find a bathing suit cover-up or a nice summery dress, you just aren't looking hard enough! And jeans - yowza, they have so many different brands and styles of jeans it can literally astound you: Rock and Republic, Earnest Sewn, Hudson, True Religion and on & on ...
I've got this little diamond on my speed dial and I am now their newest fan! Sorry, checkbook, it's going to be a long season ...

I had a great time discovering this well-stocked contemporary boutique. They have a massive supply of t-shirts (Splendid, James Perse, Michael Stars), juicy fits, designer denim, dresses, tops, and wrappy cardigans.
I tried on piles of dresses, tops, and pant, but nothing fit superbly. I fell in love with this stunning burgundy satin halter, but it fit horribly. It looked like my breasts would pop out of the sides at any given moment. For $200, they should stay in place. I asked my great sales girl, Kate, and she said it did that to everyone. So the reason Mercer gets a 4 is because I expect the owner/buyer to not sell a top or anything else that doesn't look good or fit properly on anyone.
I really love Three Dots. And Juicy. And James Perse. And yes, Mercer has plentiful of the aforementioned.
I've had the same experience with some of you: small boutiques = stuck- up employees. Mercer is totally exempted. The people there are genuinely nice. Often times, stores suggest clothes that's usually wayyyy over your budget, but at Mercer, one of the employees noticed that I was browsing through the regular priced James Perse section and notified me of the stuff on sale. I scored an awesome JP crewneck long-sleeve shirt for 50% off!
Mimi's must-haves:
James Perse shirts
Juicy plain sweats
Three dots shirts
P.S., They've got a New Year Sale going on right now. Not sure when it will end, but it began on January 4.

Mercer carries a lot of the trendy clothing labels you see in fashion magazines, but somehow the clothing selections just aren't that inspiring. If I'm going to pay $200 for a shirt (which I am, incidentally, NOT going to be doing anytime soon), it should be a pretty unique and fabulous shirt. The selections offered here were just really upscale, name brand versions of stuff you could find at Banana Republic or Urban Outfitter.
On the other hand, Mercer carries a large assortment of Michael Stars tops and a great selection of jeans (everything from Citizen to Union to Earnest Sewn). The prices are comparable to what you'd find at the Impulse section of Macy's or Savvy at Nordstrom. The sales assistant was very helpful with jeans, even though I didn't buy any. I'll check it out again and maybe I'll find something I like (but still can't afford).
a new favorite store. stanford can get a little boring, but this place got me excited. they do carry stuff similar to what you'd find in the contemporary sections at neimans or saks, but edited. and they have a fat denim section.
and the staff was really nice. yvonne was really helpful finding some jeans for my mom. and i found a style of sweater there that i'd been searching for forever. awesome!
