My friend got married this past weekend, and she was able to arrange a block of rooms at a discount rate for her out-of-town guests, so I ended up staying here.

The location is good -- it is right off the highway and relatively easy to find. It is on a main road and close to a TON of restaurants, stores, etc. The hotel is only 4 floors, but there are a ton of rooms on each floor. The lobby area was huge and very nice. However, on the days that we were there, it was hot and humid outside. The lobby has glass ceiling all around, thus creating a greenhouse-effect inside. It was incredibly muggy in the lobby during the daytime and the AC could not keep up with how hot it was. In addition to the lobby, all the hallways were incredibly hot as well.

My friend had her rehearsal dinner in one of the conference rooms in the hotel. It was set up very nicely and the food was pretty good. Service was slow to start off, but after the first two courses, it sped up a bit.

On the second day I stayed, I was awoken at 6am by the blaring sound of the fire alarm. I had no idea what was going on -- I peaked my head out the door, didn't see anyone else, took a sniff and didn't smell any smoke or gas (I was on the ground floor and near an emergency exit), so I went back to bed. A half hour later, the fire alarm KEPT ON GOING OFF for a half hour. Literally, every few minutes, it would start blaring in 5-10 second intervals, and this went on for what seemed like an eternity. This time, I heard commotion out in the hallway as other guests became concerned, but I heard another guest say something about a faulty alarm, so I tried my best to go back to bed for another hour or so.

The hotel was accommodating about the fire alarm -- they deducted half the amount of my stay for the second night, and they gave me a complimentary breakfast at their hotel restaurant (a small but quaint brunch buffet place that was fairly decent -- but then again, how do you mess up eggs?). It was a pretty fair accommodation for the few hours of lost sleep, so no complaints here.

This is probably one of the better Marriotts I've ever stayed at, but it's no Four Seasons.

After being spoiled at 2 different Four Seasons Hotel in Hawaii for our honeymoon this Melville Marriott was looking a little shabby. In fact, the first night we got back to our room my husband said "hey, where's our turn down service?" Yep, back to the real world...

While the amenities weren't up to the Four Seasons standards this Marriott was very convenient for us this past weekend.  We were in Long Island for a family wedding and both the rehearsal dinner (blackstone) and wedding (the hamlet) were a few minutes away. And the Walt Whitman mall was pretty close as well so we were able to make a trip there for a little shopping/grooming.

This hotel is absolutely huge- I think there were about 5 wedding party blocks there just this past weekend! After 48 hours there I still couldn't find my way to my room. Like most Marriott Hotels they did have an adequate gym with TVs on the machines (always a nice tough) and the breakfast buffet was edible.

I'd stay here again if in the area for business or if we got another good room rate for a wedding block, but not a hotel I'd be interested in vacationing at in the future.

We had a block reserved here for our wedding. Everything went off without a hitch. No mix ups or anything. We even rented a room at the hotel for our "rehearsal dinner" and had the hotel cater it. Everything was delicious.

The only thing that was complaint-worthy is that all the rooms face in towards the enclosed courtyard/lobby so the noise volume downstairs was a tad high for a bride trying to get her beauty sleep the night before she becomes a Mrs!

all in all, a very pleasant experience.
