A place that you would eat at if you lived nearby, not a place that you would drive to if you were far away.

The sushi here is decent.  If you are in need of a fix for sushi it will definitely stave off those cravings!  I usually get the spicy tuna hand roll and some of the special rolls...but I usually feel like I'm wasting money on the special rolls if I know I can get better for the same or a cheaper price somewhere else.  The hand rolls are are good and filling.  I believe they have a deal for 3 handrolls for $8, which is well worth it. All in all, this place was better than I thought it was going to be.

I had the Teriyaki Chicken combo.  There is no way to describe it other than "Aggressively Mediocre".

I took a good sampling of every thing that all my friends had and the only thing that I thought I'd think of ordering again was the dragon roll.

In brief, the wait staff was surly and disinterested.  The food was tasteless and unpleasantly presented.  I wouldn't go here again.

3 words: Red Dragon Roll. So far, in my extensive sushi experience (ok, really, this was probably my 8th sushi experience) this was the best. I felt the need to repeat this realization throughout my meal. "Yum. This is my favorite roll so far. It's really good. I love this."

Since I'm far from a sushi connoisseur, I'm not quite sure what made it so good. The perfect ratio of avocado to crunchy things? The carrots placed to mimic a dragon's tongue? I don't care. All I know is that I loved it and am sad that it's in IB, which isn't exactly the closest to home.

Service used to be better when they first opened...it's gone downhill since then but the food is decent. Prices are pretty inexpensive too.

The Crunchy Roll is prepared a little differently than other sushi bars but is still pretty good. Pizza roll is not bad as is the seawood salad and other bento lunches. You get your food pretty quickly which is a plus. What's interesting is, you'll see workers sitting at the table next to you watching whatever's on tv as if they're not on the clock. I thought that was funny but it didn't really bother me.

Food is okay over all but I miss the service from the original staff.

I honestly love this place.  Its close to home, and everyone who works here is absolutely awesome!  On another note.. I was in Japan for three years.  And the sushi in Japan.. well there are no words on how great it was.  This place is not as great as the real stuff in japan.. But I think its pretty darn close.  Give it a try!

Rotten Scallops. Do i need to say more??? I get so sick of people being complacent with shit food. For god sake get out and eat! Go to  Sushi Ota, Hane, RA, Harney, ANYWHERE, if you live in San Diego its not hard to find decent sushi spots once you get out of IB. Its worth the drive to get out of town and save your stomachs the disappointment. Meijos was my starter sushi place where i would order the fake stuff like california rolls and banana avocado rolls, but at some point you have to be a grown up and go eat some real fish!

This little sushi shop has quickly become one of my favorites. For some reason or another I end up going through Imperial Beach often, and Meijo Sushi is quick, delicious and moderately priced!
Great for To-Go orders, or sit in their cutesy little restaurant. Two thumbs up for the sushi. And the soft shell crab appetizer is pretty tasty, too!

The husband was craving sushi, so we decided to try what seems to be the only sushi place in I.B.  After reading the other reviews, I wasn't expecting too much and I have to say it met my expectations.

The service was friendly and we got our food within what seemed like seconds, which was sort of weird, but they weren't that busy.  I got steamed shumai--it was okay, nothing special, and the monkey roll which was also just okay.

I read the description on the menu and decided to give the monkey roll a try since I'm pregnant right now and have to eat cooked rolls.  But to my mind, and taste buds, the flavors of shrimp and banana aren't really complementary.  Especially when you add in some wasabi and avocado.  I took the banana off and then it tasted pretty good.

My husband got what he orders at every sushi restaurant-- a sashimi combo.  No points for presentation, but he said the fish was ok and the salmon was actually pretty good.

Prices are definitely reasonable.  The sashimi combo was about $15 and my roll was $7.

Regarding cleanliness, I  think the floor tiles are a little old and look dingy.  Add a few straw wrappers and various scraps of paper and it doesn't look the cleanest.  But overall it appeared clean.

I would definitely eat there again when I'm in the mood for sushi but not in the mood for driving anywhere far.  It's ok.  Not fantastic, but decent.

I really enjoy Meijo! Its great that IB has a good sushi place that is affordable. I come here often and my friends and I always enjoy it. The chefs are great and the waiters are friendly. We ALWAYS have great service and the food is pretty yummy. My fave is the dream roll....SOOOO delicious! Its a convenient place to eat sushi and drink beer with a good group of friends.

It's pretty good, awesome considering it's in Imperial Beach. The sushi tastes fresh and is really tasty. The eel was really good. I went with a friend who has been going for a long time. Very friendly staff, quick service. Overall, a great, easy, casual sushi place.

I like this place for many different reasons. The sushi there is acceptable, nothing to brag about, but it hits the spot when you're craving sushi. Although I love the shrimp tempura and unagi.

The people that work there are really nice and if you go there often come to recognize you and are even more friendly. I'm not going to bash on them because they don't refill my water.

Cost is cheap, but overall the food is good, the service is fine and I don't think I've had the experience of sticky, wet tables. If anything, blame the people that ate there before you and left such a mess. Sushi isn't exactly a sloppy joe.

I've been coming here with my boyfriend and friends since I came to San Diego in 2005. It's not the pinnacle of San Diego sushi restaurants, but it's still good for IB. Run of the mill menu- but the prices are right, and they have some pretty good specialty rolls. Try their Monkey Roll or Red Dragon roll.

Kind of sucks that they're closed on sundays... I love this place for the take-out service though. I calling in and ordering for multiple people and bringing everything back with me to work.

My Friend and her bf took me here when I came back in town to visit.  It's  all the way in Imperial Beach... which is kinda far from downtown and where I was at.  It was busy but the service was fast.  I normally order sushi but this time I ordered the Chicken Terriyaki bowl too.  It was so go0d!  It must be the sauce or something... nothin like other Terriyaki bowl you order else where.  My friends and I ordered a lot!  I love their Sushi poppers, dream rolls, and pizza rolls.   Most place would have a fishy smell to it.. but suprisingly the Uni was so good!!!  The price is cheap and the place is fairly roomy with an outside patio too!  Great sushi!  Kinda far but worth it to travel for.

I have been going here for almost a year, the sushi chefs are nice to me and the food is quick but I feel like the quality of service tends to lack ALOT! I often receive my appetizer and or soup after my meal comes...It takes forever after your food is done to get your check and I have never had a refill or the chance to order desert. The waiting staff could be much better that is the only thing lacking about this resturant.

I live in the South Bay, so I'm happy there's a sushi spot near my house!

It was an extra plus because I used to drive my butt over to Osaka over off Mission Gorge for a cheap sushi fix, and on my first visit to Meijo's noticed that the menu was practically the same!  I believe the owners of each establishment are brothers.

But the other reviewers are right, they do treat you like family once you become a "regular".  It's also a good spot to call in "to-go" orders for lunch!!!

Monkey roll is my fave, as well as the jalepeno poppers, and when I'm craving something other than sushi I LOVE their fried seafood mix.  It must be the tarter sauce that does it for me.

The sushi here is shit, so don't be a snob about it. They don't make California Rolls like anywhere else I've been, it's too dry and missing something.  But the place is convenient and it's passable.

pros...it is not busy or crowded, and it's cheap (all that this word implies), not inexpensive.  ok, they do know how to make rice.

cons...not a good place to eat.  the floors and tables are sticky, even when they were wet.  the food was just barely edible. the sushi was not good, fishy and had a lot of rice.  but all in all, not a good place to be.  the service was at least friendly, but slow.  so if you really need to eat something that doesn't have flavor, but at least won't make you sick, then this place is good.  otherwise, avoid it, it's tucked away in a corner, all alone, for a reason.

I like Meijo.  The people that work there are interesting and the people that eat there are pretty interesting too.   Once I got there late and there were several drunk people there.  That always makes interesting people watching.   I wish they stayed open later though.  I have been there twice and have enjoyed it both times.

I tried Meijo because it's convenient. Let's face it. It's kinda hard to get anything other than Mexican Food this close to the border. I had the spicy tuna roll, the dream roll, and jalapeno poppers. The spicy tuna was spicy enough for me, but it was good. The dream roll was so yummy with different types of fish. The jalapeno poppers are just so good. They are cut in half and filled with cream cheese and crab then lightly fried in tempura. I usually call in my orders and pick them up on the way home from work. They package everything really nicely to go. The servers are really friendly.  But I agree with the other person about it being not the cleanest. Plus, not enough water refills for me. I think I had to ask twice for a refill. Other than that, it will do for my sushi fix.
