My good friend Lynne P. invited me here for dinner, and I will say that I was impressed. Of course, I was an Indian food virgin, so I'm not sure how much my opinion is worth.
As a vegetarian, I was happy to find many choices that were all tasty. Portions were very generous and I had leftovers for a couple of snacks. The restaurant has a nice ambiance as well.
Easy parking at lunch, Bright inviting place, several tables have a good view of the square, good for the second Sunday flea markets.
Pay your meter, prints a ticket to display.
Biggest plate in a buffet award, you can almost fit "all you can eat" on one plate. Smallest plate is at Tiffin.
Glass top over tablecloths, wine glasses, bright walls and sunlight.
Closed Mondays
Had green chicken curry for the 1st time, Nice flavor, chicken was pink inside, fell apart like it was cooked long enough, strange. Red Curry chicken had excellent flavor, heavier cream than a butter chicken, scant ghee flavor.
The Nan is coated with something after it is cooked, comes out shiny, a basket came to my table but I turned it down.
Well, this place scores for the location. Bang in Fells Point. They have a buffet in the afternoon. Roughly $8, which I think is worth it. The menu for the buffet is pretty standard. About 3 veg and 3 non-veg subzis, rice, pakoras and some dessert. They'll get you fresh hot naan.
This food is perfect for the American taste buds. Its not overly spicy. If you are from India, you miss the spicy/hot food. Ordering a-la-carte over dinner and asking the chef to spice it up makes it better (so a friend tells me).
I was not too impressed over dinner. The Murg Handi sucked. The buffet however rocks - and they have the best naan in town - however, sometimes they might take their own sweet time in getting it and your sabzi's might turn cold.
The wait staff are friendly, altho the head guy seems to carry some attitude.
Go here for the buffet. Its a steal. Its not worth the $$ for dinner.
Went here for dinner at 6p on Friday after finding out Liquid Earth was closed. Good service and for such a brightly lit restaurant it was actually super comfortable and cozy. The food was good. It was the best vegan-friendly option going in Fell's Point that evening. The eggplant dish was surprisingly salty, don't think I'd recommend that dish. Next time I'll try the okra dish instead. They use yogurt in and on a lot of their dishes so ask before you order as our "super-deluxe" Samosas had yogurt drizzled on them. Price was good - dinner for two with one glass of wine came to $35. There's also a take-out section in the back of the restaurant.
This Indian buffet always seems to have dishes that are somewhat unique. It never seems too crowded either, but I like it a lot. And the building that it is in is beautiful. The Indian equivalent of Old Bay that Lynne P. wonders about below is probably garam masala, which I believe that spice Baltimore spice traders probably derived Old Bay from. At any rate, Mehek is a good deal and well worth visiting.

Mehek is all about the buffet, at lunch or on Wednesday nights starting at 5:30. They offer plain and "fried" rice, perfect paneer, samosa and pakoras dusted with something salty (the indian equivalent of Old Bay?) and the chicken mahkani is out of this world. They also offer at least one dessert that's indian, (kheer or gulab gamuns or something else made from cottage cheese) instead of the red jello bricks you get at some buffets.
Ordering off the menu is usually less than thrilling. Entrees are typical and ho-hum. More unusual items on the menu are available for catering only. But portions are generous, and service is attentive, and do you have a better spot for indian food since Bombay Palace moved out of Mount Vernon? I don't.
Biggest bonus: you can get the buffet for take out. They give you little containers for you to fill to your heart's content.
Now that India Rasoi ended its buffet, Mehek is the only Indian restaurant in Fells Point that caters to a lunchtime crowd. While the buffet is self-serve, a waiter always arrives immediately at your table with a basket of deliciously hot naan and a pitcher of water. The chicken tandoori and masala dishes are reliable while paneer dishes vary in taste. Service is good but can take a while to bring your check. For $8, not a bad lunchtime deal.
