This place has some odd pink lighting. At first you feel like you're in a pack of bazooka joe, but I guess your cones get saturated eventually and everything looks normal again. However, I'm glad because it seems I've finally found a decent Chinese place north of Argyle, and I live north of Argyle so that works out perfectly. This place isn't perfect, but it's solid.

Food: Egg drop soup was slightly better than average - you can add some soy sauce for a richer, more flavorful bowl. The egg rolls were very good, greasy as hell, but good. The entrees were mixed: one was amazing and one was was pretty bad. These reviews are spot on when they rave about the Mongolian beef. It's in the top 2 I've ever had. I don't know what the Mongols do to their beef... but it was a great dish. (obviously, I doubt that any Mongols know what Mongolian beef even is, unless they've been to a Chinese restaurant in the US.) The Kung Pao chicken was a travesty. It seemed like they forgot to sear the chicken, so you got these amorphous blobs on your plate. Moreover, everything had that intense chickeny smell and taste; again SEAR THE CHICKEN BEFORE STIR FRYING. One thing I have to say is that I"m very impressed with the condiments. They obviously make their duck sauce, mustard, and chili sauce from scratch and it shows. They're all delicious. Compliments for that alone...

Service: The ladies are very nice. Kept my water glass full and were very friendly. Doesn't get any better than that.

All in all, I'll be back. Just stay away from the Kung Pao.

I was going to wait to write my review till tomorrow because I was so furious over my delivery experience. I wanted to calm down so I could give a true assessment of my meal. However, my meal provided me with even more fuel for my anger.

I ordered dinner from Mee Mah thru Grub Hub. My order went in at 6:56 and the estimated deliver time was initially 7:57. Ok .... I can live with an hour delivery on a Saturday night. A few minutes later I get my email update and the adjusted time is now 8:40. Well, I've already paid my money thru Grub Hub, or I would have cancelled. I ended up making us some cheese and crackers while we waited, and waited and waited. 8:40 comes and goes, and no delivery. Finally I call Mee Mahs and ask" where in the heck is my delivery?" The woman says "oh it will be there any minute" and hustles me off the phone. I go down to wait in the hallway and wait and wait. During that time they call 2 times for directions. Finally my husband calls down to me to go out and wait in front for them because they can't find our house. I step out the front door and there they are parked directly across the street. By the time I get back upstairs it is now 9:15. All that for an order placed at 6:56.

If the food had been good, I might have become a tad more forgiving. The food however, was mediocre at best. The worst of it was my garlic chicken. That is my standard for all Chinese restaurants, This was dreadful, no it was worse than dreadful. The sauce was very watery and the mushrooms were so salty as to be inedible. I threw it out and I almost never do that.

I've eaten at Mee Mah's several times over the years, but oh lordy, never again. They should discontinue their delivery service because from other reviewers, it seems to be the norm with them.

Carried out food from Mee Mah the other night.  Should have known better when one of the owners was hacking up a lung and hawking up loogies for about 15 minutes while we were waiting for our food - it was absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!  I seriously thought I was going to puke.  The food was awful.  I ended up throwing it away.

We were coming back from Chicago Botanic Gardens with our two good friends and their son when we decided to get Chinese food.  This place is their go to restaurant and so we decided since we were going back to their house, why not!  Am I glad that we did!  I ordered the duck and was instantly in heaven!  It was delicious.  It was the whole damn thing cut up nice and pretty for me.  The other dishes ordered were Mongolian beef, orange chicken and crab rangoon.  I didn't try anything else because I only wanted the duck.  It was so much food that I had it again the next day.  I can't wait to go back soon.  I need me some duck!

Local Chinese restaurant which has served the neighborhood for a couple decades now.  Tiny dining room with dated decor reminiscent of the 80's and a parking lot that suits four cars.  Service is lackluster just as the food is and the wait time for food whether you dine in or out is typically tedious.  I've tried to like them on many occasions typically joining locals for dinner.  I think it's neighboring folks that think their food is worth mention, I travel and have transportation and therefore do not share the sentiment. What it comes down to is the type of Chinese food you are wanting to eat, Cantonese & Mandarin styles are whats served here.  Their flavors and tastes have never worked for me, always being too bland and flavor less.  I consider Mee Mah a step better than the typical take outs found in any strip mall near you with the outrageously full colored picture menus and food served in Styrofoam.

Mee Mahs is a good, dependable neighborhood restaurant. The staff is helpful and always willing to accommodate my special requests.  I love the kung pao chicken and the hot and sour soup and order from here regularly. They're consistent - and that matters to me.

Sometimes I take awhile to write a review to see what important elements I can recall. I made an order off GrubHub and remember that the food took longer than even the stated estimated time of arrival, which is pretty rare, since every other restaurant beats it.

Regardless of this, the orange chicken was manageable, however I found the BBQ pork fried rice to be very good, It had been awhile since I had any,  and it hit the spot. The price was not all that compelling, and the wait being overboard renders me skeptical as to whether I shall order again. I really don't get why they take so long to deliver even if it's dinner time when I am about 1.5 miles away.

Mee Mah is one of my favorite places to eat north of Argyle Street. Good food & relaxed atmosphere.

They do have lunch specials, but I still tend to order off of the menu.  The dish that I like the best is Szechuan Eggplant with Shrimp.  (If you are a vegan, I know they'll prepare it without...but the shrimp sets it off.) Another dish that works well is the Orange Beef.

It isn't very Chinese, but I also like the pineapple sherbet when I finish the meal...especially in the spring and summer.

I'll agree with reviewer Pete K. when he says that after spending time in Asia, the food isn't 100% the same.  The staff here is nice and the only time I run into a delay is during the lunchtime rush.

There are two dining rooms.  During the nighttime, it seems that 17th District plain clothes officers likes to hang onto the back room for planning their strategies needed to make Sauganash safe. Their off-street parking is tight, so be aware.

I was in the mood for some shrimp egg foo yung and maybe a yummy egg roll so I thought I'd take a chance on Mee Mah again. I hadn't eaten there in years so I was hoping it was still good. I was not disappointed. Not the absolute best I've ever had but a close second or third. I ordered for all of us so they were all my favorites. We had the egg foo yung, egg rolls. bbq pork, mongolian beef and crab rangoon. The only thing I didn't like was the rangoon. It was just okay. Everything else was great.
Also, we did not experience the long wait for delivery that others have in their reviews. I ordered at 7 and we were all done eating by 8. Seriously, I think they got here in 20 minutes. So, yes, I would order from them again.

I had heard that Mee Mah had the best Mongolian Beef in Chicago - that's a bold statement.  Especially since I've had some pretty freaking good Mongolian Beef in the past.  I can attest to the fact it is the best I've had anywhere!  The quality of the beef is a large part of it, but the flavoring/seasoning was fantastic as well.  Very friendly staff, awesome egg rolls (and MASSIVE TOO).  Definitely a new fan of this long standing restaurant.

The mongolian beef and kung pao chicken rock at Mee Mah! And don't forget the hot and sour soup. Yes - I love it spicy!

I stop by everytime I'm in town for a visit and am never disappointed.

For what delivers around here, this is one of the better ones. I always order their Mongolian Chicken; it's really good, as is the Green Beans & Onion. The egg flower soup is a real disappointment - mostly broth, with a tiny amount of egg and a few scallions.

The main reason for the low rating is their delivery service. If you're placing an order for delivery, make sure that you allow plenty of time. Every time I've ordered from them, they've never been on time. Case in point: we ordered from them tonight, and are still waiting for the delivery - they estimated about an hour and 10 minutes when I ordered, and they're now 20 minutes late. I live 2 miles from this restaurant. Last time we ordered and it was late, we called the restaurant and it arrived 5-10 minutes later; this time, I'm not going to try not to call so I can find out how long their delivery time really is.

Oh, one more thing - I ordered once and they substituted broccoli & onions for the green beans (they were out), without contacting us first. The problem here is that I don't eat broccoli, and would have just omitted it from the order had they bothered to call. They did, however, give me a credit for the green beans for a later order.

If it's between Kow Kow and Mee Mah, Mee Mah will win out every time. But if you want real quick delivery, call Eng's instead.

This place is still one of my favorite chinese places in the area.  I say 'in the area' because I recently visited Asia and now realize that a lot of the dishes in chinese restaurants have since been 'americanized' for the local palates. Oh well; still love the Mongolian Been and Kung Pao, but recently  ventured out and found out that if you do request some more authentic fare, the owners are willing to accommodate and will make some stuff not on the menu. C'mon - can't hurt to be adventurous.

I loved this restaurant! Now I just like it when it comes to the food; it has gone down slightly since we started coming here in the late 80s but I have nothing to complain about it really. Just don't get something you can get at some $4 greasy takeout place try something more exotic and you won't be disappointed :)

The service has remained very very good! My mom became friends with the owner some 10 years ago so maybe I'm a little biased but I don't take back anything. My parents live two blocks away from this place so it's also the ideal for our family to throw parties here. We've had three and service was always good for big crowds as well. I also think they have some of the best bubble tea here in the city but I haven't had it elsewhere in Chicago yet. The tapioca balls are soft and chewy and not frozen like I've had at Evo Cafe in Champaign.

People - Noooooooo!  This place is super-freaky bad!

BF and I were having a Chinese food jones one day and I thought "hey! Mee-Mah!  Close by, cool name, they serve Chinese, how can you go wrong!"

Well, buckle up children cuz this is a bumpy ride.

First off we are taken in to an almost empty dining room, yet seated directly next to the kitchen and bathrooms (yummy).  I order seaweed soup, which I thought was going to be like a miso - oh folks how wrong I was!  This stuff looked like someone had skimmed the Atlantic and dumped it in my bowl.  It was that kind of kelp that had the little hard nubs on it and OMG did it stink to high heaven.  Worse than any low tide.  I couldnt even eat it because, well, it was horrible, and the leaves were not cut up and so were too big to get on the spoon.  Then the waitress chastized me for not eating it "oh, too authentic for you?"  What?  What does that even mean?

Then BF's entree comes and it has a giant HAIR on top.  This is when he stands up and says "OK, we are done here, lets go".  The waitress comes by and tries to imply that the hair is his, except this hair was long and black whereas his hair was quite short and light brown.  She then tries to give us the bill with nothing taken off the total!  We threw down enough to cover the soup and a drink and walked out - without even getting a Sorry!

I have to drive by this place everyday going to work and my stomach churns every time I see it - and this is like 2 years later!

Yuk, Mee-Mah - Yuk to you and your hairy food.

I must counter the negative review from two years ago with a dated review that I have.

I am actually a little upset to see that one review had such a bad experience. We were always treated great.

To top off the level of service we always received, the food was/is amazing. I always went with Mongolian Beef, but you have watch out for the hot peppers, evil little fuckers. I still to this day compare all other egg rolls to here, they are some of the best. I hope that other people don't see one bad experience from 2 years ago as the norm. As I stated before, I have been here countless times and enjoyed it every time.

I used to be a regular here when I worked in the neighborhood. Always have found their lunch specials to be a great value and enough for two meals.

Matter of fact, we still pickup from there a couple of times a month. We've tried to find some other place that we like as much, but haven't.

We like the Chicken Chow Mien Cantonese style, comes with pan fried noddles. which are very tasty. We also like the sweet and sour chicken. They don't over batter the chicken, they use good sized white meat, no fatty weird unidentifiable pieces. They don't turn them into dough balls.

They do deliver at lunch time to area businesses. I don't know about later in the day.

I used to come here in the late 1980s with my mom, dad, brother, and sister.  Back then, Mee Mah was a very respectable restaurant.  It went into sudden decline and I hadn't been back in many years.

Over the past year, I decided to try it a few times and it has been erratic at best.  The first time back, I tried orange chicken because I felt like playing it safe.  I have to say it was pretty decent, but nothing to get too excited about.  So the second time back, I tried "Seafood Delight" which was a combination of shrimp, scallop, lobster and vegetables.  Believe me my friends, it was anything but a delight.  The shrimp was terrible and the lobster wasn't exactly tasty either.

Third time back was not by choice because I was out-voted.  So I decided to try something "safe" again.  I had Mongolian beef, which is not supposed to be bland, but this sure was.  And the beef was tough.  I doubt I'll be back again.

This place has some of the best-fried rice (except the pork which for me was little "gammy"). We also had the Mongolian beef, Mongolian chicken that was really good but not as spicy as I would have liked.  Their egg rolls are pretty good. Everything I have tried has been really good but their food is the best when you dine-in.  Their carry out just didn't taste as good.  Also, its kind of on the pricey end of what I will pay for Chinese but I continue to go there.

I come here since this place is close to where I work. In fact, a lot of people from my office come here when they want good Chinese. I'm not a regular here nor am I a huge Chinese food enthusiast, but when I come, I usually have a narrow range of menu choices that I like. Best thing here: Mongolian beef. Each piece of meat is seared to perfection and has excellent roasted flavor. Whether you go for white rice or fried rice, both are great with Mongolian beef. I also like the orange chicken. when you sit down at the table, you receive a pot of tea and little bowl-cups to drink from. While I'm not a tea drinker, I'll have some from time to time. And you always have the choice of ordering an egg roll appetizer. As Stella S says, the egg rolls are yummy indeed at this place! After the meal, you also receive a plate of good cookies too, besides the routine fortune cookies we all expect.

I dropped it a star in an updated review since hte last time we walked in it smelled like sewer gas in the entrance. That and Carolynne's hairball story makes me think twice about returning here too often.

This was one of the more horrifying dining experiences that I have ever had. I had dined there once before, and went back because my girlfriend enjoyed the place.
On my second visit, I found a lovely surprise in my General Tao's Chicken.  I don't know if we did anything to offend the cook, but I found a big black hair in my dinner. I showed it to our server and she tried to play it off. No apology, no nothing. First of all, my girlfriend was already halfway through her dinner when my entree arrived, so I wasn't going to wait another 20 minutes for another entree. I told the server to just cancel my order.
And the second lovely surprise is that they charged me for the meal. I was quite livid, but I didn't want to make a scene in front of my girlfriend. It's one of the only time's in my life where I didn't leave a tip.
So if you like bland food with a nice DNA sample included, feel free to try Mee Mah.  Other than that, take my advice and stay away.

I wish that I liked this place because I live within walking distance and there's not much else around here.

My wife and I have tried this place 3 times; two take out and one sit down.  I can't believe how bland and unappealing the selections are.

The one time we ate there they sat us in the back, next to the kitchen.  That area was brightly lit and not very attractive.  My wife ordered white wine, they only had chablis, which tasted like it came from a jug.

The average clientle seems to be retirement age and older which adds to the extremely old school feel of this place.  Not that there is anything wrong with old school Chinese, but there are better choices in this area, like Kow Kow.

I should note that this review only applies to carry-out, as I've never eaten-in at Mee Mah. Food here is good to very good, and the price is on the inexpensive side. Chop Suey, Egg rolls, and Fried Rice are some of my personal favorites. Certainly the best in this area, and leagues better than Kow Kow.

I used to come here all the time w/my family when I was a kid. Since I take day classes at Northeastern, I decided to give it a try on my break a few weeks ago. It was lunch time, and they have great and inexpensive lunch choices. You get tea, an eggroll and soup w/your entree. I got the veg soup was just kinda flavorless with some chunky vegs in it. Then I had the Sweet and Sour Chicken w/Fried Rice. The rice was really good, and the chicken was good, all white meat. The only downside was some of the bigger pieces were ice cold in the middle. Kinda grossed me out. I brought the rest home for my hubby. The best part was the eggroll, it was fresh and crunchy and not greasy. They had a sign next to me on the wall advertising their fresh fruit smoothies. They looked really good, maybe if I go back again I'll have one....
Pros - Inexpensive, Plentiful, Yummy egg roll!
Cons - Cold chicken, wierd soup....
