I've gone twice now to Medusa to get my hair cut with Heather. Both times she has given me exactly the haircut I wanted and I've walked out feeling as though my money was well spent (without tip about $70). I've not yet had any problem getting an appointment on short notice.

The salon is kind of funky (in a nice way, that is). It looks a bit like the boudoir of a 1960's starlet, but just a little worn around the edges. Its small, comfortable, and welcoming.

They only take cash or checks, so be prepared.

The first time I went to Medusa my hair was a disaster. I thought it was because I bleached and toned my hair (not for the first time) and they weren't used to the elaborate process that takes. Needless to say my hair turned out gray and the cut I got was way to short.

The second time (shame on me) I wanted to go darker and do a strawberry blond color. Again, when the stylist toned my hair it turned a gross mousy brown.

These stylists do not understand how to color hair. Luckily I went to a stylist at the Aveda salon down the street and they fixed my hair the next week.

A friend told me about Jessica Rose at Medusa because of her ability to handle curly, thick hair. My friend was right. I've gotten 2 cuts that I've been really happy with, and I have hair that's difficult to cut.

The place is out of my way, but it's a cute spot and Jessica Rose is great, so it's worth it. Minus 1 star only because it's just a little expensive, but I guess $60 for a cut in NY is pretty much normal...and I don't have the skeelz to cut my own hair.

Totally mediocre for a haircut and totally unacceptable for a styling - at least for an important event. I got an updo that looked so-so and involved 75 bobby pins. I won't go again.

I needed a haircut desperately and a woman I work with mentioned that her daughter works at Medusa. I was able to get an appointment the next day with Jessica Rose. After going to Hello Beautiful in Williamsburg for the last few years, I was nervous to change salons, even though my usual hairdresser was chronically late and sometimes stopped in the middle of my haircut to answer her cell phone or have a smoke.

Jessica Rose is fantastic! She was able to keep my hair long but take out a ton of the weight (my hair is very thick and hard to maintain long, but I had a bob for years and refuse to go back). The best part was that after I washed it/ blew it dry myself it looked just as good as when she did it (the true hairdresser test). Plus, I no long have to schlep out to Williamsburg on the L train.

Medusa is the only hair salon in Park Slope that I have found that actually LISTENS to what you want. Its also nice to walk in and see people that obviously have great style themselves, and like another reviewer said, not an ounce of attitude.

I was paired with Jessica Rose, who ended up being a great stylist, helping me figure out what the best hair cut style and color was for me. I ended up with a great short summer cut, baby bangs, and a full bleach and tone job. I also found out that she give free bang trims/clean ups in between appointments!

The only kind of negative experience there for me was the "junior stylist/trainee" who was super nice, but wasn't very good at washing my hair and ended up getting a lot of bleached filled water all down my back. Luckily I wasn't wearing a nice shirt, and it didn't  bother me too much, but a good tip for anyone else who is going there in the near future.

I am more than happy with my haircut/color, and would recommend Medusa.

I have been following hair stylist and color guru, Jamie Starr, for several years now and was delighted when he joined the Medusa Salon! Now my partner and  I don't have to leave Park Slope and trek to the East Village to get his services.  He is a true artist and I constantly get compliments on my color and cut.  Thanks, Jamie!

After a couple years of going to Beehive and always getting the same cut - I got bored and switched it up and went to Medusa.

SO HAPPY. I am a Jessica Rose-r for life. My bangs look perfect and she asked lots of questions about what I wanted, and gave me lots of tips on taming my curls. Plus she does free bang trims! YES!

When I first moved to Brooklyn in the spring of 2005, one of my first things to do was to find a great salon to get my hair cut.  I'm quite picky and am a very visual person so I really wanted to find someone who can work well with pictures for guidance.

Anyhow, right around the corner from my apartment was Medusa ... and once I went, I have never ever gone anywhere else.

My first experience was amazing, but unfortunately, the gal who did my hair moved away.  My second time, I fell in love with my girl, Anastasia.  She is simply amazing.

She's extremely down to earth and takes direction like no one else I've ever encountered.  I can't rave about her enough.  She takes the time to really make sure you get what you want.  And a major added plus of her cuts, is they grow out AMAZINGLY.

As long as I'm living in the New York City metro area, I will go to her.

Jessica Rose is a beautiful and warm person, but my hair looks shitty. The bangs are too short, and my hair has started to frizz which it regularly will never do. Maybe the problem is not with the stylist but with my face. Anyway, I'm going back to my old regimen - sorry Jessica :(

Salon gets 3 stars for being gorgeous and vintage-cool.

I got my hair colored here yesterday by Jessica and it looks amazing. She really did a great job. Best of all, she blow dried my hair in the exact style that I would do if I had the coordination and skill to blow dry my hair that well myself:)

Getting my hair blown dry at a salon is usually a disappointing experience for me. I don't know why, but most stylists end up fixing my hair in such a way that I look like a soccer mom or a granny - seriously! And I'm just barely 30, with piercings and tattoos, so those two "styles" don't really jive with the rest of my look.

As for Jennifer K's review, it sounds like we had the same stylist, but I didn't think she was on a different planet than me. I thought my stylists was very sweet, talkative, and talented. I would recommend her for sure.

She made a card with my hair dye mixture for me, and even showed me some highlight colors she thought would be fun for me to try next time. It was a great experience overall.

The first time I went to Kelly (Kelli? Kellie?) she gave me an awesome haircut that grew out beautifully. At my request she gave me bangs, but wisely steered me towards a bangs cut on a slant and not too short. Great cut. So I went back yesterday, and building on what she'd done in the past, she seriously gave me the best haircut I think I've ever had. Thanks Kelly (i) (ie)!!

I got some of my favorite haircuts ever here.  I forget what my stylist's name was, unfortunately, but she had black hair with bangs and lots of tattoos and she was really nice.  She almost always gave me a good cut.  It's not cheap, and the decor kind of turned me off, but it's a nice place that I look back on fondly now that I've moved out of the neighborhood.

first timer at medusa - got an appointment same day on a saturday.  my stylist was starr and he used a straight razor and the effects were pretty awesome.  i'm very happy with the wash, cut, and style, but it was more than i expected to pay -- $92 total including 20% tip.  i would definitely go back to medusa again.

After walking pretty much the entire length of 7th ave in park slope, I came across this salon and found a stylist willing to touch-up my dark brown roots to match my platinum blonde hair.  Not only was the price perfect (around $100 for the bleaching and a toner) but two stylists worked on me and did a PHENOMENAL job- not only are my roots the perfect color (and everyone who has bleached hair knows this is a big challenge sometimes) but my stylist, Mary, toned my existing (rather crappy) bleach to an amazing color and my hair isn't fried or crispy or frizzy.  For spending 2 hours in the salon, I think $100 is a steal! Plus everyone was SO nice and there was not a hint of the attitude I experienced in some of the other places I walked in to.  The music was kick ass and the decor was fun and inviting.  Everyone was chatty (which some people dislike but I love- I like my stylist being like a therapist!) and it was nice and laid back.
Note that while I'm sure they do guys cuts, the place is painted pink and is decoupaged with pictures of pinups and vintage beauty ads- it's definably decorated and geared towards women!
I won't be going anywhere else- this place kicked butt!

I went to Jessica Rose for a haircut here.  I am VERY picky about my hair.  One thing that tends to bother me most about getting a haircut is that most stylists will ask you what you want then while you tell them they talk over you all like, 'yeah yeah sounds good, I got it'.  But they don't 'got it' they don't even close to get it.  Jessica made sure to ask more questions and really pay attention before taking the scissors to my head.  I wanted a very nerdy cut, I think this was a little out of her comfort zone as it seems she would like to make everyone look like a rock star.  In the end though she did what a good stylist should and gave me the haircut that I wanted.  And she did an immaculate job.  Also, she's just about the sweetest person you'll ever meet.  If I lived in New York I would certainly be a regular.

i got may hair cut here last week as a walk-in appointment. (i took the day off work because i was sick, and the weather was sunny so i decided to walk into park slope to get my hair cut. i called up and they had an afternoon appointment open).  the appointment was for 3pm, i got there at 2:50 because i was killing time in the barnes and noble.  my stylist (she introduced herself but i forgot her name...) arrived at 3:12 because mass transit sucks.  whatevs, i didnt mind waiting.  she had the "hair washer" wash my hair and get it wet for the cut, then clipped away.  she gave me exactly what i asked for except that she took about an inch more off than i asked for.
im giving medusa three stars because i think my cut was overpriced (68 bucks plus a tip for the stylist and for the "hair washing girl".  i never get my hair "styled" when i get it cut.  i basically just need someone to cut off the dead tips all the way around my head.  i would do it myself if i could cut the back evenly.

The haircuts were great (Jesse, I think) and around $60.  But I stopped going after my second visit when she told me whoever cut my hair last did weird things to it (when it had been her) and in general she seemed to live on a different planet than me which made small-talk excruciating.  There were also long waits each time, and little organization at the reception desk.  That said, I really did love my hair and got tons of compliments, lots of people surprised I got such a "cool" hair cut in the heart of park slope.
