Simply the best shishkabob sandwich. Good calamari and excellent babaganoush. These people came to Atlanta from Chicago to make the most delicious food available to those brave enough to try it. This is also a really good deal for what you get.

My yelp reviews of restaurants have been lackluster at best. I have to struggle to write something about some of these places. I guess I have been spoiled and eaten at so many places, I don't get excited about eating at the "in" restaurant. I have gotten excited about eating at the Mediterranean Cafe (the sign actually says Cuisine). So far, this is the best Gyro I have tasted in the city, probably one of the best falafel places. The gyro for example had the best sauce on a sandwich I have ever had. Truly, this place is my new staple.
Not to mention environment; expensive, pretentious, uninspired, corporate designs don't convince me at all. It is the food that counts. The Mediterranean has all the markings of a mom and pop shop; home made decorations and carpets, simple booths. Nestled in the same shopping center as a salvation army thrift store. It is simple, quaint and inviting. The owner/cook seems to be a cool guy also, suggesting what is good and why Baklava is too expensive to make well. And I have also never heard this before, "My falafel is the best in the city, the best". Even it isn't the best, it is certainly a good thing to hear the cook proclaim it is.
Even though Creative Loafing gave it a wonderful rating, I still hope it doesn't become too popular or the guy might get overworked and shutdown. The Mediterranean Cafe is one of those places that you don't want to tell a lot of people about because you want to keep it secret but on the other hand, you want the shop to stay open.
So, I can say with confidence that you will like the Mediterranean Cafe if you like good, authentic homemade dishes in a casual environment.

Best falafel I've had in years. A fresh, simple sandwich with the an awesome tangy sauce the owner says he makes with mango. It may sound strange, but it works beautifully. The owner is a bit eccentric, but he cooks everything on his own and takes great pride in it. The decor is strange and a bit grubby, but the food is totally worth it.

Across the street from the Waffle House in Avondale Estates. Ali is a one man wonder who serves home cooked meals at this Bagdad dive. This is comfort food at it's best. Try the potato pie with salad or the grilled vegetables. Frequent specials like grilled kingfish smothered in a delicious pine nut sauce was going fast a few nights ago. Ali makes almost everything from scratch. His hummus is to die for. He loves to nurture his customers and piles on the food with each order. So what if the soda dispenser has been out of Fanta Orange for two months. I love this place.

going here is like walking into some guys house and being like "cook me something amazing".
i love the food! it's authentic as you'll get in atlanta and way cheap. i was so happy when i finally found this place a few months ago, ending my search for european quality falafels. the inside is drab, but kinda funny. eating in is possible but you'll find it's confusing as the owner focuses entirely on the food and doesn't really worry about proper restaurant layout. this place is run by one guy, i think he's really cool but he might come off as crazy (borat) to some. he always has a story for me about something entertaining. he's quite a character.
the menu is cute, it says everything is the best you've ever had (and most of it is true). don't ask for a gyro. he hates food that is bad for you and he considers gyros quite bad, he has them but don't ask. try the 'beef sandwhich' (i told him to name it something cool but.. oh well) it's a wrap with veggies and slow cooked roasted beef. it is super tasty and better than any gyro i've ever had. the falafel is excellent. try the homemade chips. he just started carrying fish, it's great.
i always leave overstuffed, you may want to ask for smaller portions. the only thing i don't like about this place is i leave smelling like tasty food. takeout will remedy it.
go here, don't be afraid, it's so good.
