A conscientious oasis on a trip out west that lacked many animal- and people-friendly options. Super friendly staff and great coffee.
I recommend they switch from plain soy milk to Silk Creamer! It doesn't curdle and the flavor is unparalleled.

Thanks to my local coffee shop (Joe Coffee Bar in Philadelphia) I've become a bit picky about my coffee. The Mean Bean was recommended to me by the staff of the equally excellent Zion Cycles bike shop, and I was really glad to find top notch Fair Trade coffee served by a very friendly and attentive staff. Even the darkest french roast was bold but not bitter. Some other shops think that "bold" and "bitter" are the same and just wind up with burnt-tasting coffee, but the Mean Bean doesn't serve any of that junk.
The breakfast burritos and muffins were also top notch. We ate at Cafe Soleil one morning (which was _right_ next to our hotel) but their coffee wasn't nearly as tasty as the Mean Bean, so we kept coming back for our entire vacation.

IT SUCKS! I used to go there each year during our visit to Zion, but this year it has a new owner that seems to not care about the place. All I have to say is "YUK". Keep on moving!
The locals seem to recommend the Cafe Soleil or the Springdale Fruit Market for some good old joe (no froth).
I didn't like the coffee. Though I never did find a good cup of coffee in Zion. I think the location and the climate saps the flavor out of the beans.
I love the Mean Bean. Great breakfast bagels and coffee. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We came here everyday for breakfast when we were in town last Spring and loved it. They have patio area on the roof that is perfect for watching the light change across the rock cliffs bordering the town. I miss this place and will totally be back when we visit Zion again.

This is my new fav independent coffee house, too bad it is 1,000 miles away!! No where else can I get organic coffee served by the coolest staff, AND get sprouted whole grain bagels or a whole wheat egg wrap. I went there every single morning last week when I was in town. A double cap and some egg loveliness and I could hike all day in them thar hills!!
I might move to Zion just so I can go here every day....
*Plus, bonus star for their shirt logo with the curvy babe that says, "Full-bodied coffee!"
**And another bonus star for the guy who works there who used to be a bike messenger in SF who remembered me when I told them that I bought a mug the day before and accidentally left it there (it was true, I swear on my double half decaf cappuccino breve!).

A single-shot soy latte was a bit pricey ($4), but being from San Diego, did not shock me too much. I was a little disappointed I couldn't get a press-pot. The staff were very friendly and the latte was quite good - I was impressed that they didn't scorch the soymilk.
Great coffee,
Ok and reasonably priced breakafst food, splurge on the lox & bagel
nice staff
would go again
