It is entirely up to you what is most important when you book your reservations.. Here are somethings I'd like to share about my experience, and you can decide..
The Meadowlark Country home is nestled away from the main street, but very close to Calistoga, surprisingly. I love the atmosphere with the horses, the beautiful plants, fruit trees, flowers and chickens..
Richard and Kurt are wonderful hosts. Upon my arrival Richard showed us around - the shared amenities pool, hot tub, sauna and living room and then to the room we would be staying ~ pond room. Closest to the hillside, with a solace to relax with a small pond nestled in the back. Inside the room was spacious and beautifully decorated, and including a bathroom with whirlpool.
This was just the perfect fix to get away from the hustles and bustles of everyday life. Truly romantic and relaxing.. Everyone has their favorites, and this is one of mine.
I'll never stay anywhere else in Calistoga! This retreat has everything one would want. We felt so comfortable in the surroundings. The rooms are nice and contemporary and the grounds are so natural and organic---perfect for you and your dog. The pool area is so well taken care of and appealing. The host Curt and Richard couldn't be anymore charming and accommodating.
It's simply a nice hidden gem! This nestled country home is the perfect getaway. The atmosphere is intoxicating and warm. Make this your next stay!
This is an excellent place to stay. Rooms all nicely appointed with each room having a different view of the mountains to the meadows to the 20 beautiful acres of grounds. We choose the Mountain View room because it has it's own private deck and a back entrance. Breakfast is delicious and changes each morning. Don't want breakfast until late no problem. The hosts Kurt and Richard are charming men who are very knowledgeable of places to eat and wineries to enjoy in the Napa and Sonoma Valley's. They have a beautiful pool area which is clothing optional, if you want to get nekid' it's cool, if not there is plenty of room for everybody to feel comfortable. I'm giving this place 5 star's because it's worth it.

We went up to Calistoga for a romantic getaway for my birthday, and The Meadowlark Inn was exactly what we were hoping for. It's only a short drive (5 minutes) from Calistoga, but the grounds are so quiet and private, with great views across the valley, it feels like you're far away from any civilization. Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious, with a big sauna tub and a private sunporch that looked onto the orchards. When we arrived we had just come in from an afternoon of wine tasting, so we immediately headed down to the mineral pool and hot tub. The Meadowlark is, as others have mentioned, clothing optional at the pool, but in the do-whatever-you-want kind of way, very laid back. The hot tub is very clean and comfy, and the whole pool area is surrounded by flowering lavender - a private, leafy glade. I should know - I think we spent most of the weekend there! On the second day we went for an ambitious hike up in the Robert Louis Stevenson state park, and then felt like we had really earned the hot tub by the time we got back.
Kurt and Richard are outstanding hosts. Richard makes a fabulous breakfast (pancakes with fresh whipped cream and fruit compote, a delicious eggs benedict), and Kurt has a wealth of information on activities in the area (don't miss dinner at Solage if you want to have a nice meal). Both of them are warm conversationalists - but you can have your breakfast in your room, too, if you don't feel like talking.
All in all, we could not have made a better choice for my birthday weekend - we will definitely return!
God it's beautiful in Calistoga... and nothing is better than lying by the pool at Meadowlark on a nice summer day... as long as you don't mind a little nudity (more about that later).
Meadowlark is a B&B with a series of "cottages" with very nicely appointed rooms mine had a private patio. Meadowlark is incredibly quiet and peaceful but you are only a stone's throw from Calistoga, St. Helena, etc. The nicest room is the suite directly off of the swimming pool and jacuzzi. At night it is basically like they are your and yours alone... very romantic.
I came here twice. The first time when I saw a concert at a vineyard in Napa and the second time for my friend's wedding. Both times we loved it. The only caveat to mention about Meadowlark is that the pool is clothing optional and you will most likely be sharing your time there with Kurt and Richard (two lovely men who own the place). Personally I think they give the place its unique character but I know some of the wedding party were unprepared for the full body sunburns they saw.
At any rate... Meadowlark is a perfect spot to stay for a romantic getaway weekend in wine country and when I head back that way again it will be at the top of my list.
p.s. I didn't eat the breakfast but I heard its fantabulous.

I didn't want to leave...
... it was the perfect get-away.
Kurt and Richard are gracious hosts and I loved meeting them. I wish I could have breakfast there every week!
The room was very well-appointed with a great two person jacuzzi (not the kind where you are squished into a barely XL regular size tub.) We also had a patio off our room with french doors and it was lovely to sit out and look up at the trees.
The grounds are quite beautiful with a stunning pool/sauna/jacuzzi area that is like its own world. We actually checked out and then lounded at the pool until our drive home.
Close by to everything in wine country, I really can't think of staying anywhere else!

My wife and I just got back from another awsome time at Meadowlark. This was the 4 or 5th time we have been there. We love it there, I can not say enough about how relaxing the place is. We have stayed in the Cottage House and the Mountain View room. Our favortie so far is the Cottage House, its a big room, with a great private deck. The grounds are in full bloom and looked awsome, the pool is great, and the hosts Kurt and Richard, are warm and welcoming. We've been to a few other places, but all things considered you can not beat this place!
Our first foray to Calistoga and we stayed at the PERFECT place.
1. The property was beautiful and immaculate. The room was fantastically comfortable and we loved the remote controlled fireplace. Everything was cozy and just right. The location is just far enough from Calistoga to feel that its in the country but close enough that it is convenient to all the shops and restaurants.
2. The pool, sauna and hot-tub were beautiful and we absolutely can't wait to go back when the weather is warmer (the hot tub was fun for sure).
3. They have 11 horses on the property and they are constantly exercising them, what a beautiful setting. Our dog was as welcome as we were. The owners love animals (at least well behaved ones) and it shows.
4. Last but absolutely not least! Kirk and Richard (the owners) were truly fantastic hosts. Warm, welcoming and inclusive, they clearly love what they do and had the absolutely best advice for everything from restaurants to wineries to spas. They are connected in the area and couldn't be more helpful. We loved sitting with them after breakfast and chatting (the breakfasts were fantastic too!).
We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back to Meadowlark soon!
How do I apply the Fussy Fusspot Scale to a B&B?
Clean Room? Yes. 5 of 5 points.
Clean Breakfast Area? Yes. 5 of 5 points.
Room. 8 of 10 points. Very comfortable and nice. Lost a couple of points for too much sound from the room next door.
Breakfast. 10 of 10 points. Very nice breakfast.
Ambiance. 4 of 5 points. Quite pleasant and relaxing.
Price / Room Tradeoff. 4 of 5 points. A fairly reasonable price for the area and a nice room.
Friends from Finland Practical Scale. 4 of 5 points. Quite easy to find, fairly easy to make a reservation. We were in the off-season so may be harder during the high season.
Bonus Points. 2 of 5 bonus points.
1 Bonus for the luxurious bathtub.
1 Bonus for second-servings of pancakes at breakfast and the excellent coffee.
Total = 42 Fussy Fusspot Points and 4 stars.

Bullet points:
* Liberal, gorgeous getaway
* Five stars for great room and wonderful hosts
What a find. Kurt and Richard have an absolutely incredible B&B, and they are wonderful hosts.
The rooms are elegant and comfortable. Ours had a canopy bed with luxurious bedding, a private patio, and spacious jacuzzi tub.
Breakfast was delicious - Richard whipped up a mushroom and herb omelet, accompanied by fresh fruit, coffee, and juice - but the best part of breakfast was the wonderful conversation we had with our hosts!
The surrounding land is lush and green - from the French doors in our room you were greeted by wonderful views of the landscape.
Meadowlark also has a large pool area, with hot tub, for relaxing or sunning. It's clothing optional, so you can bask in the sun au naturel if you want.
Their website says they are hetero, gay, and naturist friendly. I like that - it keeps out the conservative, uptight riff-raff. If you don't have an open mind, go somewhere else!
A great getaway spot, close to wineries and amazing restaurants!
We just got back from a very relaxing weekend with Richard and Kurt, the owners of the Meadowlark. Check in has never been easier. We were informed that we were upgraded to the "Pond Room". It had a very contemporary style, the bathroom looked relatively new with a giant jacuzzi tub. They even supplied a champagne bucket and wine bottle opener. The bed was very comfortable. Attached to the room was a very spacious patio with its own Koi pond (Hence the rooms name). Kurt and Richard do everything within their power to make everyone's stay relaxing and comfortable. My wife and I had engaging conversations with both of them at various times. Calling this a B&B is a bit of a misnomer as it is more of a resort. We stayed at the pool all day and if you want a massage, one can be arranged although we did not try this option on this trip. The pool is clothing optional which added to the relaxation of the inn. Breakfast was outdoors on the deck with the various guests and the cat. The food was more than you would typically find at most B&B. It was perfectly executed and very delicious. We can't wait to go back!
Kurt and Richard are super sweet and knowledgeable hosts. The property is bigger than you'd think, with horses, wild turkeys, bullfrogs in the pond and butterflies the size of fixed-wing aircraft.
The pool area is relaxing and elegant. Lots of fruit trees and aromatic flowers abound around the property.
Richard turns a simple egg into a pillow of clouds in puff pastry one morning and then tops himself the next day.
Saw two nudes by the pool as is the inn's wont. Doesn't bother me, you can be yourself here. I think it keeps the uptight and icky right-wingers away. I kept on my trunks because I paid a hell of a lot for them.
Mountain View room was of a generous size, well appointed and quiet. Nice fridge too! THE ONLY reason to take away a star is that the room smelled like dog. Had to buy a candle. Almost hired an exorcist.
I'm not so "granola" that I wanna sleep where dogs sleep. Not a dog person. Pet smells are weird. AND the road next door was busier than I thought, interfering with potential rural tranquility during the day.. Traffic disappears at bedtime though.
Would I return? In a heartbeat. I'm already planning on it.
We felt right at home at Meadowlark. They allow dogs to stay overnight in your room, the springs are amazing and the people are really helpful! They upgraded us into a more deluxe room, the decor is modern and everything is in new condition. No flowered bedspreads either. We'll definitely go back!
