This is a beautiful nature park. There are no playgrounds, and there is no easy beach access. But there is a 1.25 mile long trail, well maintained, but fairly steep in places. The forest is a nice older mature second growth forest nestled in a big ravine that leads to the Sound.

The walk is well worth it, and if you like nature watching, this spot is well worth a visit.

The main path from the parking lot through Lund's Gulch to the beach is wide, well-maintained, and busy (even on a fairly cold & wet March day).  The trail parallels a creek on its way through the forest, and there's a nice grassy area with picnic tables at the bottom just before a short tunnel that leads to a sandy Puget Sound beach.

We decided not to take the direct route, and opted instead for one of the small dirt trails leading off the parking area.  This muddy, 'wild' path kinda petered out at a point deeper in the forest but still near the top of the ravine.  Decided to try bush-bashing our way down to sea level from there-- it made for more of an adventure, but damn there's a lot of devil's club and nettles in there!  Was happy to take the nice & easy gravel path back up to the top when we were done at the beach!

I have been using this since I was 15... which lets just say was a long time ago.

It has changed some.  They have added park toys by the parking lot.  Benches along the path - which also changed the demographics of those using the tail.

Its a 2 mile round trip hike down to the waterfront.

The beach is great - view of Whidby Island is also amazing.

Great for a short easy jog.

Meadowdale Park! Yaaaay. This was the very first little hike I did with my new red heeler puppy. It was a real treat. I have lived in the area for 6 years, but only found out about this well-hidden place by reading the "Best Hikes Near Seattle" book. This is a great day-hike for when the weather is too crummy to go to the mountains. The trail is well maintained, and at the beach, if you walk a little bit north toward the jetty, there is an off-leash area for your fido. Give it a go, especially on a weekday when it's not as busy.

I took advantage of the lovely warm weather we were having and went to this park. I knew it was a 1.25 long trail with some steep paths.  I came prepared- or I thought I did.   I had good hiking shoes, my lunch, water bottles, and my dog.

The walk down was pretty easy but I was wondering how hard it may to take to hike  back up. The paths are either made up of gravel or dirt. Some parts were muddy. The scenery was very nice. The tall trees were so cool that I felt  so small!   There are benches along the way.  At the bottom, there was the ranger's home and a grassy place for picnics with tables and shelters.  I had  my lunch here and shared water/ice with my dog.

The entry way for the beach is under the railroad tracks. I guess it was unusual for water to be tricking down to the beach since there was a few inches of water with pebbles in the tunnel.  People were talking about it.  The water was darn cold! I wanted to see the beach so I took off my shoes and walked through the short tunnel.

The beach is BEAUTIFUL!  I saw a sign that dogs must be leashed so my dog was leashed the whole time. I ain't taking chances with the ranger's home so close by! I wished I had my beach shoes to walk around the beach- I admit I am a wussy. I don't like walking barefoot on pebbles and broken sea shells.  It does hurt, ya know!   I also wished I had a book to read. My dog and I just sat on a log and enjoyed the view for a while.

Heading back, the first half of the path wasn't too bad.  The last leg of the path back to the parking lot was a workout!  I can see why the benches were along the way for people to need to take a break.

So- if you are going, use this as a checklist:
Bring back pack (for you or your dog to wear) with:
      -good walking shoes
      -lunch
-water bottles (one for going down and one for going up)
      -beach shoes
-towel (to sit on and/or to dry feet)
       -a good book
       -iPod for music

There were garbage cans on top by parking lot and at the bottom where the picnic area is to throw out your garbage or your dog's number 2 bags.  We spotted many birds. I know there are animals in the park but they must have been hiding when my dog and I were there.

I just want everyone to know that this park has NO BEACH ACCESS until June 2010 since there are salmon eggs in the stream going under the railroad tracks.

I went there on Saturday since it was a beautiful day, walked the trail and found a chain link fence at the end...it was really disappointing.

But, I will definitely be going back during the summer when there is beach access again.
