DISCLAIMER: I am not a golf fanatic. You know how some people go to parties "for the food"? Well, I play golf for the beer and for the cigars. And also because my boyfriend is an avid and MAD-talented golfer.  So what you are going to read here is a non-golfer's review of a golf course. What's pretty, what's not, and any other random thoughts that come to mind. If you want a technical evaluation of a golf course, including whether the tee boxes are level (apparently that's important)... this is NOT the review for you. I suggest you read the other reviews here (if there are any) or go buy one of those fancy-schmancy golf magazines. K? K!!

Coming from the west, as you drop down into the canyon that "is" Prineville one of the first things you see is this golf course. (The second thing? Probably a Les Schwab Tire Center.) This is one of the "flatter" courses in Central Oregon, and holes are mid-length. So if you are going to walk a course, this one should be high on your list.

Rates are affordable. The course is well maintained. The gas-powered carts are either "on" or "off" so hang on to something as you bump along the path.

Tuck some mosquito repellent into your bag with some sunscreen. There is little shade, lots of water, and many mosquitoes. You are likely to see other, more welcome, wildlife there as well including heron, red-wing blackbirds, beaver, butterflies, ducks, muskrat, nutria, geese, and yellow-headed blackbirds (very pretty but LOUD).

DO NOT under any circumstances fish your ball out of the hazard. All of the water at Meadow Lakes is "reclaimed" if you get my drift. As stated on their website, "This is a sophisticated water treatment facility disguised as a golf course." There are signs everywhere warning golfers to avoid contact with the water, and not to put used tees in your mouth.

Why would you put a TEE in your MOUTH?!

16 out of 18 holes on this course have water so i suggest you buy some cheap balls and head out with an air of optimism. this course is lovely, stretching across the bottom of a valley teaming with wildlife and great weather. the staff is extremely personable and really accomodating. its fairly inexpensive to play here as well. get a cart though because you dont want to be walking this entire course otherwise you'll pass out by the 10th hole. a pretty uncrowded place, its a great place to play a leisurely game.
