All I can say is that the chutney thing was never my thing!
Until now... Damn what the hell is in your fucking Chutney? It kinda made me a fan. Who would of thought.
I just recently went to a fundraiser and there was this little stand there that this lovely Scottish woman was serving her chutney from. At first I was a little leery, I mean what is chutney? Jam? Jelly? Relish? Well it's none of those things! It's chutney! It was absolutley deliscious. She was serving 3 flavors on little pieces of bread with a fantastic cheese from the Cowgirl Cremery. My favorite was the habenero but I thought the fig and ginger was just as good. Even though I couldn't buy any at the fundraiser I did go right out that weekend and get some from Cowgirl. Who knew that you could also cook with it. The habenero is amazing with eggs and the fig & ginger goes great with pork chops!
Oh boy...is this some good chutney!!! I'm from Scotland and grew up with delicious chunks of bread, slabs of cheese topped with fruity branston pickle...I could only have dreamed then, to experience the chunky fruity tangy gourmet chutney this Spunky Scot, Alison Mcquaid, makes by hand and with love...fig and ginger and Habanjero are my favorites of hers extensive varieties...pick up are jar at the cowgirl creamery in the ferry building...or google mcquaids celtic chutney for more bay area retailers...delicious to cook with too...!:)
After trying this chutney at the Hidden Vine (Tomato, sooooo delicious) I had to go find it - went to Cowgirl creamery where I bought the fig & ginger and the Habenero chutney's (which makes a GREAT chicken salad) Love this stuff - if you don't think you like chutney try McQuades - it will change your mind!!! - Will be going back for more and will pick up a couple of extra jars for gifts.
