I am quite picky when it comes to being a home buyer.  A spacious, non-cookie cutter, thoughtfully designed, high quality residence that wouldn't break my bank was what I was after, and that is precisely what I got after working with Melody Hultgren.

As a first time home buyer and newbie to the East Bay last year, Melody guided me through hundreds of listings and dozens of loft and condo tours.

Her prompt professionalism and cheery demeanor made the search for my new home much easier to navigate.  Ditto for the loan process.

At no time did she ever pressure me to close on deal when I was not 100% comfortable with it.  And when I finally did close on a unit in West Oaktown after 6+ months of searching, Melody even deducted part of her commission to help me out - few agents would do this.

Melody knows the East Bay real estate market inside and out.  And she can play hardball with the best of them to score you additional options/features for a new unit (in a complex) or thousands less for a used property.

I highly recommend her services to anyone looking to expand their negotiating power in the purchase of an East Bay home or to help discover a hidden gem that they may have overlooked on the online real estate sites.

I have been working with one of their agents for a while and think he's great. Granted I have not purchased a home yet but know that when I do he'll do a good job at representing my interests and getting me a great deal. He has been nothing but patient, knowledgable, and I feel he always has my best interest in mind and not out to make a quick sale off of me. I would recommend this real estate company as long as the other agents are as good as the one I'm working with.

{I originally posted this review under Liz' listing here @ Yelp, but figured I would also put it with the company listing so all the dots are connected}

I hired Liz to help me rent my condo in August 2008 and would hire her again in a heartbeat. Liz is smart, organized and will accurately gauge your property's value on the market. She also provides expert guidance on staging your home for maximum effect. Liz met all her deliverables in a timely and expert manner - ensuring my property rented very quickly.

Liz made a confusing, time intensive process easy and fast. She ensured not only I was happy, but also my prospective tenants. In fact, she made sure to inspect the place one last time before they moved in.

I have recommended Liz to my friends and I recommend her to you!

I've moved 9 times in the last 12 1/2 years. It's a running joke with my family back home because christmas cards and birthday wishes often get sent to addresses 3 cribs back. Oh well. I always thought that it really was the thought that counts anyway. I've done my own moves with friends, used many different moving companies, met some cool movers- one time even caught some movers doing lines of blow in my Tiburon ex-apartment bathroom. I was moving out anyways... So I didn't really mind. I mean, they just worked faster, and it's not like they dropped anything, right? But that definitely signifies the depths of a nasty habit, IMO. So yea, before I digress any further because believe me, I have lots of stories- I mean to say, I've pretty much seen it all.
After you go through that many moves, you tend to get good at it. You also know how much you can procrastinate on some things.. But that's not a good thing exactly... :) You just know you have your game plan down when you know where you can be lazy in any given project. But also- you tend to relax more and not get as worked up about moves, and know what to expect.
My last two moves were very smooth however. Far smoother than I had come to expect. I had been wanting to get out of Tiburon for quite some time, and found out about Urban Bay in the course my hunt for the coolest crib I could find. After living in Tiburon for a few years I felt I owed it to myself. They were just what I was looking for. They had a lot of cool funky places- expensive, but hey this is SF, right?
I met Jeanne to see this rad cement encased loft. It was great, and the landlord I ended up having was perfect. Jeanne was responsive, accommodating, and just as chill as I was. It was a fun painless experience getting into a new crib where moving can usually be down to the wire and nerve wracking. With Jeanne it wasn't the case. It was such a pleasant experience, I solely used Urban to get my next apartment. It's hard to go back to wheeling and dealing on craigslist when you have a smooth apartment hunt to look forward to by finding Jeanne again!
Sadly, I found that Jeanne wasn't in charge of renting the new place I was after. I tend to like dealing with the same people- whether it's with friends or business. You just know what to expect, and in finding a place to live it's good to be already past any possible malarkey. But, as it would be, Leah handled my next rental. And she was just as cool. Very responsive, and even after the lease was signed. That says a lot.

Thanks guys!

I thought they were the best in San Francisco for helping with loft rentals, I was sadly mistaken.

My agent let me down over and over again, until finally I had to fire her & hire someone else.  I wish I hadn't wasted so much time & money.

Unless you have a super luxury condo with concierge service on the water, I wouldn't hire them :(

The agent I was working with here was consistently late for appointments, forgot my name in an extremely awkward manner (after I'd met with her several times), and kept trying to show me properties that were obviously NOT what I was looking for.

I kept finding open houses myself - she was completely not on the ball.  It was at one of these open houses that I met the great Zephyr agents I am working with now.  I was loathe to go to Zephyr because they're omnipresent in this city and have trendy branding - but they really are that good.

The Urban Bay agent I was working with was a super nice lady though - so I won't name her personally in this review - but seriously, she was a terrible real estate agent!  I should have gone with Zephyr from the beginning.

Not a good experience at all.  Looking for a home should be a pleasant experience, our agent was impatient and always in a rush. He just wanted to earn a commission. We found a realtor recommended to us by a friend (who didn't work for a large corporation like Urban Bay) and he goes the extra mile which is what realtors should do.

New to San Francisco I saw Urban Bay had some great listings. I had a horrible, repeat HORRIBLE, experience working with Jeanne Zimmerman. Unknowledgeable, unhelpful and unpleasant would be the three words I would use to describe her. Perhaps she is just too important to bother responding to client voicemails. The same must be true of the CEO, Tom Brown, who didnt respond to my email discussing my  concerns about the low-level of service I was receiving.

Not going to get into details, but I have had bad experiences with this company.  We bought a home, but not through these folks.

Wish there was a star lower than 1.  Absolutely the most "questionable" Real Estate company in San Francisco.  Go with Zypher or Vanguard.  Good folks over there.

Nothing but stellar service. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a nice smile and calming manor by the front desk. No being from SF, I only found the office because I was originally looking at new developments and found Urban Bay at the top of all my searches... (like a sign!!!!) ....Searching for a home can be a nerve racking experience. The agent on duty was able to answer my questions and put me in contact with the rental department as well. I never felt they were starved for a commission like other agencies down the street, and even though I did not end up purchasing I was very happy with my experience from beginning to end. Once I am out of my rental, buying with an Urban Bay agent will be a no brainer!

They specialize in loft living. I bought my first loft with one of their agents, Chris Lim, who is not with them anymore. He moved to Vanguard and I followed him there.

Just bought a property through Urban Bay.  I can't recommend my agent, Eric Turner, highly enough.  Although it was my first real estate transaction I felt like the process was totally in control the whole time due to his care and professionalism.

It was such a pleasure working with Melody.  I knew I wanted to work with her when I met her at an open house in SF.  I was in the process of searching for an agent to list my townhouse so I went to open houses to find an agent and to see how they treated potential buyers.  Melody was welcoming and helpful which made the whole process comfortable and seamless during a difficult real estate market.

It is great to have the benefit of her experience in the East Bay and San Francisco real estate markets.  She works hard for her clients.  She was great and walked me through the selling process by provided me comps, helping with staging decisions, and running the numbers.  She made sure I understood the pros and cons of all decisions.  I would definitely work with her again.

If you want to be 'sold' a property, then Urban Bay are not the realtors you're looking for. However, if you wish to buy a home with ease, expertise and absolute confidence, then I can't recommend Eric Turner and the team at UBP more highly. Despite not knowing my escrow from my elbow, Eric guided us through the first-home-buying process with patience, integrity and professionalism. It's going to be a hard act to follow. Fortunately, I'm not moving for a long time.

I used to work for Urban Bay prior to opening my own real estate brokerage.  I can't say enough good things about the fine people at Urban Bay.  Eric Turner, Adam Gavzner, Mel Huntgren -- first class agents and even better people.
