Gotta thank one of my coworkers who's leaving for this one. =P
We reserved 12 seats for lunch the other day and service was good as well as the food (for the most part, I can't say the PM next to me enjoyed his gravy-colored dish). A really nice touch on their part was the fresh off the press menu's that were subtitled "Farewell -insert engineer name-!!!!". Classy---and a souvenir! My true cod stir-fry was pretty good; I would've liked a smidgens more rice. The Madagascar Vanilla Bean ice cream was delightful. Complimentary bread was decent. Overall, service seemed a bit slow.
I bid our last, and only, electrical engineer, farewell and best wishes in his future career. -

In a catering event, I had the best salmon ever. And the caterer was this place. I got to try it out, I thought.
It is a very traditional (old fashioned) bar and restaurant decor. The waiter was a middle-age well dressed man. Everything speaks "tradition." And there is an over-sized bar with a separate entrance. I think this is more an after-work drink/hang-out place than a foodie eatery.
All food items were fresh, nicely prepared, excellent garnishes. No complaint. Just that we order 6 oysters and came 12. I did not ask for the 2nd beer and it appeared by itself. I am not complaining on the services, except that I am. That's a bit too much initiative, although I accepted them without any protest.
Given Seattle's seafood landscape. I am not sure I will come again. For old-fashion, I will go Shuckers. I can also do waterfront. The foods are good, but not so amazing to get me to come back. -

I came here for lunch with a co-worker since it is near my office. I wasn't hugely impressed. We ordered a Ceasar salad to start, which was a very generous portion. One could easily have ordered that salad as an entree.
My co-worker got the Smoked Salmon Penne (which had Pea Vines, Bacon, Garlic, Parmesan Cream Sauce), and I really wished that I had ordered that too. It was actually pretty tasty, and ironically, I had actually considered ordering that in the first place. However, being known for their fish, I thought I should have gone with the more traditional dish of fish and chips. Big mistake.
I got the True Cod Fish and Chips, which I just found too greasy. I understand that Fish and Chips are supposed to be greasy, since it is deep fried, but I found the breading to be unappetizing and falling off the fish. Plus, I don't generally like my pieces of fish to be thick and big (I like them thin and crispy), and these fish pieces were practically the size of my fists. Too heavy and too big pieces. The steak fries were decent but they didn't give enough of the fries.
The total bill was well over $40, which I thought was pricey for a lunch, considering the quality of the food. -

Went there for dinner - great ambiance, terrific service, good drink list, and decent food. The happy hour scene in the bar/lounge seemed pretty lively as well. My only knock is the food was just "alright" for the price.

Great dinner! Linguine and Clams had a ton of clams in them. Old school service from our waiter Frank. He spaced out the app, salad and entrees perfectly and kept the drinks flowing. I will be back!

I took my wife here for supper on a Friday evening. Splendid. The wait staff knew a think or two about whiskey, so I got a single 16 yr lagavulin to kick things off. We had mussels for an appetizer, delicious. We didn't have to wait long for the entree's, which were equally excellent.
Friendly atmosphere, classy wait staff. Go there :-) -

Went here with hubby, Mom & Dad yesterday for Happy Hour before a sailing trip at the waterfront.
We got there right at 4pm as they were unlocking the doors. The bar at this MC &S is large. Lots of tables & a good amount of seats at the bar. In addition to the HH menu you also have the option of 50% the small plates on the normal menu.
Each of us ordered 2 things. Dad the coconut prawns & hot artichoke dip. Mom the caprese salad & fried oysters. Hubby the clams & mussels and the calamari. Me the pulled pork nachos & the kobe sliders. Everything was excellent. We swapped bites of everything. I think we would order the same things again.
Minor complaint the drink menu on the table does not list all beers available. Ask your server for additional options if you don't see one you like.
Checked in with Foursquare & we received one of our $5 HH selections free! :) Total bill for all our food & 4 drinks was $58. An amazing deal. -

This was my first visit to the 4th avenue location of McCormick's... having been to the first avenue restaurant and not very impressed. My brother, my four year old son and I had dinner and once again, I must say that their children's menu is awesome- the portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. My brother tried a hodge podge of different sides and salads and I had the seafood linguine.
My experience here was remarkably different from the one I had at the first avenue location and I am glad that I gave the Fish House and Bar a try. The food was delicious and the service was very good- in fact, our server Frank went above what I would expect. I also must comment on the management at McCormick's- they do listen, respond and respect their clientele and I appreciate that very much. My family and I are looking forward to another visit at this location. -
Review from Elena M.
Stopped in for HH tonight and, have to say, I was not particularly impressed.
First off, the HH menu in the restaurant is different than the HH menu on-line. My husband and I were wanting to hit up an HH before heading into Pioneer Square for First Thursday festivities. I perused several HH menus on-line and picked McCormick's because it had two things I thought sounded yummy: the Grilled Italian Sausage and the Fresh Bay Scallop Ceviche. My husband thought the menu looked fine. And, so off we went. And, when we got there, neither of the items I went in to eat were on the menu. Neither of them.
::: very big sigh ::::
[I should add my husband actually thought the restaurant menu looked better than the on-line menu, but I was still disappointed.]
We ended up getting a Spinach Dip, some Popcorn Chicken and some Coconut Prawns. The food was fine, but nothing that blew me away. At $7 for only five prawns, I thought the Coconut Prawns were a bit pricey. I had a glass of the HH red, and it is a pretty tiny pour served in giant glass that, I guess, is supposed to camouflage this reality.
I've been to the HH at Jake's Grill in PDX (a member of the McCormick's family) and it is fantastic! They serve up this huge serving of these amazing Sesame Seared Ahi Skewers for only $5. They pour a generous glass of HH wine.
Alas, I did not find the same magic at McCormick's Fish House. The service was perfectly fine and the atmosphere was very comfortable. But, with so many other HH options downtown, I'll almost certainly not be back. -

This place has been around a long time and you always know your experience will be solid.
It is mostly traditional style food with a couple surprises.
The food is good and the service is great.
The menu is large and varied with many choices for many tastes and price ranges (both lunch and dinner).
The decor is warm and comfortable in both the dining area and the bar.
The bar has a great happy hour menu where you can get good size food portions on the cheap.
One really great thing about this place is the location. Because in this general vicinity of 4th and Columbia there are not many places to eat so it is nice to have a standard available. I don't see this as a destination restaurant, but if you are in this general area of the city and need a place for food and drinks you are likely to enjoy your meal and the service. -

I've lost count of how many times I've had happy hour and/or meals at this McCormick's (it is 1min from my office).
The food is always solid and rarely can you find a 'bad' item on the menu.
The happy hour is great and the bar is always packed. Wait staff/bartender are always on their game. They've continued to add new items to the menu (my fave is the new chicken wings).
Lunch is also great as the menu gets rotated and so new items will surface and keep things rotating. -

We have a M&S in El Segundo that always pleases. In fact, remind me to write a positive review of it later. The bar had been set kind of high. McCormick's without "S" must be a the step child of the chain. Whatever. I had a seared ahi that had the taste and texture of a dish that had been sliced hours ago. I also had the wedge salad in a blue cheese soup, I think. Maybe I should have ordered that on the side. Two oysters that were really good. Love the Manny's on tap. Maybe my new favorite beer.

McCormick's has been a definite Go-To Happy Hour place for my work mates and I for years. Yes the prices have gone up at Happy Hour but who can expect a $2 1/2 lb Cheeseburger anymore.
The waitstaff are very attentive and will make sure you are properly watered and fed. -

I totally forgot to update the the manager offered a gift certificate for me to come back. I asked that he consider making a donation to Farestart instead of giving me the new experience. Not only did they make a donation but from the size of it, I'm guessing it was greater than what the gift certificate amount would have been. Very generous of them.

I have to say happy hour at this place is a really good deal. The small plates are half price until closing. Their kobe beef sliders are pretty decent. Also coming on Thursday for lobster weight guessing is a lot of fun (you look at a lobster and guess how much it weighs; the closet without going over wins the lobster).

Review from Jon D.
Indeed this is one place that is within reasonable distance from my mom's workplace where it's possible to have a nice warm lunch. It's usually full of "business" lunches as it were, and can get reasonably stuffed (and noisy) at a lunch rush.
My mom and I have walked in without a reservation many a time, and have often been seated right next to the bustling kitchen. Now, I understand that there are tables there and someone has to sit in them. But my sneaking suspicion is that the reservationless bunch that walks in is basically the first to fill those seats, even with more "desirable" seats around.
But enough with the choice of seat, let's discuss the food. Somewhat mediocre as a rule, excelling little, but passing a threshold of acceptability nearly on look alone. So what's wrong with the food, certainly the recipes are fine enough. Everything on the menu seems like it would be tasty. but in the actual execution, the seasoning falls a bit flat. The salt and pepper on the table become more than decoration with the blander dishes, and the oversaalted dishes, while not usually heinously so, will take a little bit of acclimation for the palate to accept.
But not to be relinquished to a list of places to avoid, necessarily. This place is nice enough in decor, has friendly enough service, and the food is usually passable at least. i don't mind it. -

Awesome old place that always does the right things the right ways.... I went with a returning customer and it was fun to see him recognized and rewarded with some perks for being a regular. I wish there were more places that were so connected to their customers.....

Review is for the bar, I have, in the 10 years I've been frequenting this place, only stepped foot inside the restaurant to see if my friends went the wrong way.
To start with, II have had the best vodka collins of my life in this place. And I have been around, it's true, I have been a- ROUND. Best. Ever.
The service is usually spot on, the waitress is there just enough to keep your drinks full and your food coming- they even do a sweep to ensure you get in any last orders for happy hour- and they're usually quite friendly.
The food is the best happy hour deal I've come across (and remember that get around comment) the cheeseburger with big planks of fries at 2.95, is AAAAWWWWESOOOOME. Other food starts at 1.95 and stops at 4.95 including some Kobe beef sliders.
Now they even have a happy hour dessert... and Happy Hour runs all day on Sat/ Sun now.

I used to go to McCormick and Schmicks in Portland for their happy hour off and on, and this one is similar. We went for a work happy hour and had some burgers, kobe beef sliders, and some kind of a toast with sundried tomatoes appetizer (I'm sure there's a more upscale name for it than that; I'm just not hipster enough to know what it is right now...) Then, of course there are the seafood options too. Cool place. I won't come here every time, but, it's definitely good enough to be added to the downtown work happy hour rotation. :)

First off, let me say that we hit this place salivating- one of us had eaten here before. Not familiar with McCormack and Schmick's restaurants? Amazing food, extremely well trained staff. Upscale in atmosphere, staff, food.
Today, however, we were headed for Happy hour: I had the 2.95 burger (I think it's normally like 11 bucks after 6pm), and the Black Bean Hummus. The Hummus (2 bucks!!!) was so good and so cheap (I wound up smearing it on the cheeseburger bun), we ordered a second order of it. It's VERY VERY good. Don't miss this. It's an amazing deal, great people, and, for happy hour, unbelieveable prices. The gal at the table adjacent to us was raving about the Tiramisu. Not sure you can screw that up, but she thought it was also amazing. -
Review from Riss J.
I recently went here for lunch. I usually don't eat lunch in the city, and if I do its brown bag or whatever my coffee bitch brings back for me..so this was a nice change of pace.
It was still jammed with a good size lunch crowd and an intimate table for two was a quick seat. I was worried when we walked in and their first question was "do you have a reservation".
The food was very good, the service was adequate. The waitress seemed very scatterbrained and wasn't very quick on her toes.
My one hour lunch break turned into a two hour lunch break by eating here. If I wasn't enjoying the company I was with..that would have really bugged me.
The raspberries in the dessert were ridiculous they were so good. Where did they get such kick ass raspberries this time of year? I want to move to wherever that is. Sooooo good. Screw your spoon, and eat them with your fingers and savor the moment good.
At the end of the meal, as things winded down, I found myself attempting to drink an empty glass of water for about 20 minutes. Biggest pet peeve of eating out for me. Its just not nice to force me to choose between being a lady or chomping on ice, damnit.
So 5 star company, 4 star food, 2 star service....so I'll give ya' 3
I liked the decor, layout, and location a block from work, so I'm sure I'll be back.Listed in: Downtown digs

The Happy Hour is awesome, and everything on that menu is well-priced for the large portions you get. The bartenders and wait staff are friendly and will mostly keep your drink full. I especially favor the delicious burger and steak fries for $3.
It's busy and loud in there most of the time but big groups are welcome to squeeze in around the big round tables and will get good service. They were OK about splitting checks when it was necessary for our group.
I haven't eaten in the dining room here; ironically, I'm not much into seafood. -

I've eaten at this McCormick's many times with groups and they are always very accommodating and attentive to our needs. The food is consistence and fresh never had a bad meal here.
Happy Hour like all other McCormick's is a great deal just no drink specials but sometimes if you're lucky the cute bartender will give you a sample of Stella in a pint glass, or maybe if you're me and ask nicely he will anyways this is my favorite McCormick's in Seattle due to the cute bartender who gives me free samples. -
Review from May W.
I am sorry, but this place almost ruined the entire McCormick and Schmick franchise for me. The service was sloooooooow...I was there for an hour and a half and basically ate for about 10 minutes before I was completely fed up with the crap they served me. I ordered the salmon and halibut dish that came with a side of rice and some "fresh" blackberries. The sauce that came with the dish was all watered down and tasted mostly like oil, the blackberries were all bruised and certainly not fresh, and the rice was too buttery. Oh yah, I also had the french onion soup, which was pretty salty and the oyster soup, which was super watery and oily. What is up with the chefs watering down everything? The booth seats were uncomfortable and mine had a crack or something because my hair kept getting caught on it!! ARGH!
STAY AWAY FROM HERE AT ALL COST!!!! BAD BAD BAD AND NOT WORTH THE COST! -

I've been to better sports bars. I've been to better happy hour bars. The atmosphere isn't great. While the staff is friendly, the bar area has very weird seating. I've had better fish. You don't need to avoid the place but there are better after work hangouts.
As far as a restaurant goes. The food is edible - though the menu leaves much to be desired . The service very attentive. I've only had lunch there. I'd suggest you try it once but there are many other choices in the area. -
Review from Megan O.
I work in this building so I have been to McCormick's MANY times for lunch. The servers are always really friendly and professional, and they can get you in and out of there in an hour or less. I have very few complaints about the food. Every now and then I'll order something and end up not caring for it too much but usually everything is fresh and flavorful. I recommend getting some oysters when they're in season. My lunch favorites are the cobb salad, wedge salad, french onion soup, fish & chips and the burger.
They also have a good happy hour here. No drink specials but the food is super cheap. If you're hitting up this happy hour near the end of the week just be aware it can get pretty packed and loud. All in all this is a solid option for a nicer, sit down lunch. -

I want to make out with the woman at the Monaco that recommended this returant. Its one of the BEST seafood resturants I've ever been too. They fly in their fish daily...and check this out...they have a daily menu. Gofreakinfigure.
Well I opted for the trout, which came recommended, and the fingerling potatoes...with a side of corn on the cob. I just about licked the plate it was so good. I am glad that I was enjoying my food alone cause I inhaled my food...savoring every bite. I wouldn't have wanted to be interupted from this sexy ass plate of food in front of me. I mean, even the corn on the cob was scrumptious.
I am a bit sad that I had to leave. I'll dream of this place. -

These are the Old Faithfuls of Seattle seafood restaurants. Not real inventive, not much risk taking, but you can count on it being a nicely prepared meal.
Some of the best features:
-rockin happy hour with crazy cheap food specials
-top-notch service
-high volume restaurant so the fish is always fresh
-it's in the Entertainment book every year and I love a bargain! -

I've been to at least half a dozen McCormick & Schmicks restaurants in Seattle, Portland, and DC and I've never had a bad meal at any of them. This particular location is just as good as any of the others. Happy hours run from 4-6 and you can score some real deals.
Their regular menu, on the other hand, is not exactly a bargain. But still good. I've tried their shrimp etouffee for lunch. Although it was very tasty (derived from its dark roux), it was overly salty. Their steaks are excellent. I had the NY strip steak, perfectly cooked (med. rare), served with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and an amazing demi glace sauce. Delish and worth the hefty price tag.
Also, the meatloaf is amazing! Better than my own, I dare say. It's not always on the menu, so if you see it, order it!
Service has always been friendly and Johnny-on-the-spot. Overall, it's a lovely establishment that I know I'll be returning to again and again.
They're super busy during weekday lunch rush, so it might be wise to make resos. -
Review from Mark B.
We went here for lunch, and it was so good we came back for dinner on the same day. Can it rate any less than 5 stars? What was wrong with it? Nothing. The food, the beer, the waiters competence, the ambience, the decor, the atmosphere, the seafood, the location. Everything was right. Its very rare that I get to say that!
Go ahead and get the steelhead, with a manny's. -

I went here for lunch with a good friend while we were wedding gown shopping (not for me of course!). While the food is a tad pricey, you get huge proportions and it's really tasty!! She ordered the soup/salad/sandwich combo and I had the shrimp and broccoli angel hair pasta. Both yummy! We also each had a glass of iced tea and once we added sugar, it was delicious.
I really appreciated the attentive and fabulous service from all the staff. Everyone there was friendly (it helped that my friend knew the hostess...) and we were never without full water glasses.
I've heard good things about their HH, so that might be my next venture! -

This is a great (if somewhat pricey) place for lunch in downtown Seattle. The northwest staple (or comfort food?) of planked salmon with asparagus was cooked perfectly (medium rare), and the service was attentive. I was in and out in about 45 minutes.
The only thing that could have made the meal better would have been a glass of wine, followed by an afternoon nap. -
Review from Kimberly F.
Seattle, WA
Went there with my husband Saturday night. Service started off pretty slow, no one came to our table for a while. My husband thought one of the managers (?) was a little rude when he leaned over me to grab the carafe of wine to fill up my wine glass without saying anything first. It was a little weird as at that moment I was about to take a sip of wine and had to put my glass down.
I though my dinner was pretty bad. The asparagus was not completely steamed and was still pretty raw. Didn't think that the risotto was very impressive, the sea bass portion was small and slightly cold, and I have seen better cuts of salmon at Red Lobster.
My husband's steak was pretty good but the mashed potatoes were very plain and boring.
I doubt that we will return, though other reviews give the happy hour high marks. -
Review from Shari d.
Located in my old stomping grounds, McCormick's has always been a staple for happy hour with co-workers and friends.
Last Friday some co-workers and I made our way to the 4th avenue location to try a change of scenery from the Met and the 1st avenue location. We were promptly greeted with a smile and a friendly invitation to sit at the bar.
Ordered my first of several sidecars and perused the happy hour menu to see if anything caught the attention of my now grumbly tummy. I ordered the Butternut Squash Gnocchi and the Tempura Battered Cheese Curds. The portion on the gnocchi was skimpy...a mere 6 small pieces...but for $1.95 I couldn't really complain. The cheese curds were crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside...served with a delectably spicy jalapeno relish that perfectly offset the mildness cheese curds.
I haven't been here for dinner in quite some time so I can't comment on the quality of the main courses. However, the happy hour menu is a steal and anyone looking to eat some great food with their afternoon aperitif should make their way to this fine establishment. -

I can only comment on happy hour at the bar here. Didn't get to try the dinner menu but with the happy hour prices, variety and quality, I don't think I'd want to! A half pound beef burger cooked to perfection with steak fries for $2.95! Almost makes me want to move here.
The $3.95 and $4.95 section was very impressive too. We tried a selection of mussels, quesadillas, buffalo wings, etc. It is THE most impressive happy hour menu I've ever seen. The food comes out with high class restaurant quality with fast food prices. All in all, our entire group was happy and satisfied except for the silly guy that decided to order off the dinner menu.
Side note: California does not know how to make scrumptious buffalo wings. Until I tried the ones here, I did not know the difference. Now I'm on a crusade to find out what I've been missing in the wings department all these years. I'm miffed! -

My rating is based soley on happy hour in the bar.
This is one of the best happy hour's downtown. From 3:30 to 6pm and 11 to close you can cheap burgers, fish and chips, quasadilla or seafood for under $4 bucks!
My coworkers and I have stopped in for snacks and drinks after work many times. The service is friendly and the food and drinks are good! No drink specials, but the cheap food makes up for that. -

As with all other McCormick's, great seafood dishes at reasonable prices. Typically the place where I satisfy my fish and chips craving. This visit was for business so would have preferred a bigger rectangular table instead of three round tables pushed together. Good service and good food.

This particular M&S was a huge disappointment. The menu choices seem very limited. I had the king salmon...okay but nothing special and didn't taste as fresh as it should. The portions are very skimpy here. My husband ordered a combination dinner. He thought it was going to be huge. We laughed when they brought it out because the portions were so small and there was more plate than food. Very bizarre presentation compared to their other dishes. The service was slow even though it was a Monday evening at 5pm, not exactly a rush. Also, not enough butter for the bread. The bread was tough so it must have been microwaved. It was disappointing because we went for my son's 21st birthday. I've had much better meals at the M&S in Irvine (OC) but this experience in Seattle and the one I had in Bellevue have actually shaken my faith in the M&S franchise. I probably won't go back.

It was pretty dead during happy hour on a Wednesday night. A lot of the happy hour food was overly salty. Think salt lick. The ravioli was decent, but there were like maybe 5 on the plate - $1 per ravioli. Go to the McCormick's Happy Hour on Lake Union instead for a livelier atmosphere and the better cheap eats that McCormick's is known for.
