3 reviews for Mazatlan Restaurant
Kelly C and I happened upon this place late on a Wednesday night on the way to Crystal Mountain. From the street you meander down a tree lined drive that fills the mind immediately with thoughts of *destination resort*.
The drive opens up to a large parking lot and the restaurant looms in the backdrop. The enormous building, wide front steps, and heavy, lacquered doors give this Ameri-Mex chain restaurant a feeling of oddly misplaced superiority. Did we get transported out of Bonney Lake and into Las Vegas?
The restaurant itself is clean and H-U-G-E with I think I counted three separate seating areas and a large bar. The central dining area feels like a hotel atrium with open ambiance and expansive Mexican scene wall mural.
The food was typical American/Mexican (i.e. soooooooooo not authentic Mexican) and the portions were ginormous. Our two entrees and 1 app (oh and chips) were enough for eight meals. Great place for families on a budget.
Very unimpressed.
My date noted that the outside looked like the entrance to a church. Insane huge "mexican" Restaurant. Our fellow diner ordered a taco salad with chicken, no sour cream. They recieved a beef taco salad w/sour cream. The waitstaff wasn't rude, but also wasn't friendly either. Very short and to the point.
Parking lot is huge, but not big enough. Had to circle a few times to find a spot.
Good service, HUGE portions, and pretty good margaritas.
Not a great selection of vegetarian cuisine, but they did have pretty good food.
