One of the surprises for people traveling along Highway 101 in inland Mendocino County, California is that it winds through a number of communities with hidden treasures. In Willits, for example, there are boutiques offering distinctive clothing for the stylish man and woman. You can arrive nondescript and leave "ready for your close-up." Even if Cecile B. DeMille is nowhere in sight.
A mandatory stop for the fashion conscious is Mazahar, whose clothing has been described as "gypsy chic." Another apt description, "a voyage for the soul into color and beauty." This is a bazaar for local and international clothing and crafts with flair, reflecting the ebullient personalities of owner Sara Mann and her staff.
The hats, handcrafted by a family in Northern California, will be on sale throughout November (and perhaps beyond). You'll be in Mendocino County for the Wine & Mushroom Fest, right? (How could you possibly think of being anywhere else!) If you're there Friday, November 6, include a stop at Mazahar, 38 S. Main St. (Highway 101 at the north end of town).
