There's a Yelp entry for this guy?  Heh.  This is gonna be fun.

I'm not even sure where to start.  It's fish in a barrel talking about this mayor's incompetence and absolute, perfect inability to grasp the significance of anything he does.  And the ironic juxtapositions in his policies are rich.

To take but a few examples:

- He proudly shepherded a mandatory recycling and composting program through the Supes and then crowed about how "green" SF has become under his stewardship, even as litter and garbage pile up on our streets.

- In his first year, he decided to start making command appearances at crime scenes to demonstrate that he was so "hands on" when it came to the crime problems in the City.  The police brass finally told him to stuff it.  And the crime rate continued to skyrocket until this year.  Any wonder that morale at the SFPD is at an all-time low?

- Also in his first year, he took on the cable car operators.  Let me repeat: the Mayor of San Francisco picked a fight with the cable car operators.  He accused them of pocketing fares.  Right, as if THAT'S MUNI's big problem.

- During a hotel union workers' strike in 2005 he marched with the strikers.  Again, I'll repeat: the Mayor, who is supposed to broker deals between management and unions, marched with SEIU activists, most of whom weren't even from SF but shuttled in by the union to make noise.

- He banged his best friend's wife.  You gotta ask yourself, who does that?  I mean, really, who DOES that?

- He has a drinking problem but when asked whether he's an alcoholic he said, and I quote, that's "not for me to decide."  Wow, dude.  At least the guys at AA have the cojones to admit their problem.

- While banging a 20-year-old cocktail waitress named Brittany Mounts, he brought her to several official appearances and provided her with alcohol.  Say what you will about the drinking age, but the guy's in the executive branch - you know, the one that's supposed to enforce the laws of the land.

And during his tenure, his accomplishments include the following:

- Homelessness is worse.

- Infrastructure is worse (SF has among the worst streets in the country, which is saying something when you consider that we don't have to deal with frozen pavement in the winter or massive flooding in the summer).

- Even though he ran as a "business friendly" candidate, the number of small businesses in the City has dropped 8% during his tenure.

- He can't balance out, much less keep in check, a Board of Supervisors consisting of a cast of characters and nitwits that would make Larry, Moe and Curly jealous.

But not to worry, even as the City faces a record budget deficit, old Gav's got a few more tricks up his sleeve.  We're gonna tax sugary drinks and snacks!

Seriously, you should resign.  Do us all a favor.  Do yourself a favor.  Show just how dedicated you are to your new baby girl and go run a winery and leave the rest of us to pick up the pieces of the civic, financial, and spiritual disaster that your tenure has been.  Go now, go quietly.  We'll even throw you a little ball, since we know you like those so much.

Gavin Newsome has perfected the art of the symbolic gesture that accomplishes nothing.  His many, many programs, initiatives and policies have wonderful names and create the appearance of accomplishment.

But, we have a city that is the most financially irresponsible in the country.  Gavin leaves us deeper in debt than when he arrived.  Doyle drive and other critical infrastructure continues to decay.  The city cannot educate its children, artificially reduces the housing supply so that the poorest families cannot survive and have to leave.  This leaves San Francisco as a dramatically less diverse city than other more nomal cities.

Gavin was all about looking pretty and he managed to do that.  The city crumbles but what concern is that to you?

Our Gavin Newsom.
Ask his aides where he has been:
"I haven't seen him."

Our SF leader
He loves unfunded mandates
"I'm greener than thou!"

Sleeps with his friend's wives.
Make SF look like a joke on national stage
Shows up to appearances hours late in shirts that look like he scraped them off of the floor of a cheap motel 20 minutes prior.
Treats DPT like a cash cow.

One star for hating our representative from Fairfield, Chris Daly.

" Plagued by low poll numbers and anemic fund raising".
Gavin, The main thing that sabotaged your run for Governor
was your lack if commitment to San Francisco.
How did you except to run the state when you can not even
run city hall.
Gavin, you are so out of your league and it shows clearly.

I'm so angry with you Gavin.  You elitist silly man.

How dare you propose a tax on soda to pay for your wife's program to get people to choose "healthy tap water"?

It shows how out of touch you are that you want the people who can least afford it to pay for your pet projects.

Your comment about how you know the city would be sued over this and that it was okay with you is just as bad.  Fighting a lawsuit like this will be an enormous cost to the taxpayers.  But that's okay because you think it's important to take a stand against sugary drinks?

BOOOOO.

Why don't you get on the slumlords instead and have them fix their lead soldered pipes that contaminate the drinking water?  Or are you too busy running for Arnolds job?

We had a rally last Friday on City Hall steps, it was peaceful and joyous.  The rally was to defend our organization from slandered rumors spread throughout the news media and into the ears of the people of San Francisco, our City!  The rumors stated by President Board of Supervisors, David Chiu were in fact not true.  We invited the Mayor and Chiu to speak at our rally but they refused.........,.

Wonder what's going on in that 2nd floor window of theirs!!!!

Gav-y Baby..

Why did you announce your intent to run for governor of California on Facebook?

I was checking my facebook yesterday and saw a lot of status updates from my friends.

I saw:

AMY JACKSON* - it's Britney time, biatch!
CARLOS SMITH* - Miss CA SUCKS!
JEFF ZAVER* - I just took the biggest sh*t! picture uploaded!
GAVIN NEWSOM - it's official! I'm running for governor of CA.

Huh? I love you and your hair, Gavy, but really? You couldn't do a press conference or something? You had to do it on facebook, twitter, myspace, etc?

I'll still vote for you because I love your hair. Smooches.

You did nothing, but bring grief to the working class of S.F.
I work with the public, all day day after day I hear the same thing, when will we be done with him meaning you.
People all over this city just want you to be gone.
Story after story of how you made bad decision after worse decision.
The most common thread through all the talk is that your rich, spoiled, and could care less of people that have to work for a living.
I have met about two or three people who think your doing a good job, most of them from somewhere else, and have only been living here a month or so, and got all there information about you from the paper that has not printed a true or relevant story in years.
It really dose take a person of character, and substance to make the city a better place to live for all, not just the marina, wealthy, elite.
I have had to deal with the people you have personally chosen to govern over my carrier, and I can say with all honesty, they have been the most inept, overpaid, underachieving, people I have ever met in my life.
They spent all there time and resources telling the public what a great job they were doing.
They are all gone now, on to other jobs with stamped resumes saying I worked for SF, and you standing there smiling saying what a great job they did.
The saddest part to this story is you believe it, you truly think you and the people you put in power in this city actually did something good.
There might have been a few things that got past me, but I was spending most of my time trying to keep afloat, trying to pay my bills,
trying to keep the vultures you put in front of me and so many others at bay.
You have not lifted one finger for workers to try and get ahead in SF, but you have always stuck out both hands to take money from the week, the ones with little or no money, the ones without lawyers, the ones with no voice.
You have never taken a stand on an issue that would not give you a vote.
You are incapable of  understanding the needs of others who truly are in need of help to become better citizens, better mothers and fathers.
This is what people mean when they say your out of touch, this is what they mean when they say your a joke, this is what they mean when they say, your all glam and no substance.
You have had a charmed life, what you don't realize is that most have not and will not, we are the ones that have to clean your mess, take care of your wife and kids, drive you to your drinking events, where you can digress over whats next in your elitist life.
We have to do the work that you have never had to do.
The only thing I have ever seen you do well is smile, and even that creeps me out.
When people like you are in power, most have to suffer, and wait.
It will take a lot for the next mayor to undo all the crap you did, and all the work you let slide, I'm not even sure it can be done.
Most of the people I grew up with here had to leave the city, they could not make a living, they could not pay there bills, raise there family.
All because you wanted more of you living here, lots of attitude and lots of money.
I met a good friend of yours, and spoke to him for over an hour, he said "gavin has no idea what its like to have to work for a living"
he also said "He lives in a glass house surrounded bye yes men"
After talking to him I started feeling sorry for you, but I soon realized there are many lives you have destroyed in the name of your fame and personal wealth.
I do feel some empathy  for you though in the fact that you truly don't realize how far a drift from the reality's of people struggling  in this world you are.
I at least have hope that you don't, because if you did, you would be a vary sick man.

Mayor Newsom's constant idiocy as relates to his stand on 2A rights will have me voting against him in any election where he is on a ticket I can cast a vote on.

I have other issues I am again Mr. Newsom on.  Will post these when my finger tremble less.

I would love to see Gavin exit politics altogether.   SF and our state may not be any better for such and exit, but we would not be any worse off either.

Why would elect someone to cheat on the state of California like he cheats on his family.   A sane person would not do so.

Oh, Gavin.

Thank you for being strong on environmental issues, and thank you for talking a big game on gay rights, but you really need to quit co-opting the term "progressive" when you refer to yourself and your policies.  Matt Gonzalez is still cooler than you.

In the game "Shag, Marry, or Throw off a Cliff," you'd be totally cliffed, but not before getting shagged first.

What a clown. All style and no substance, except the snow that don't melt, if you know what I mean.....The courts decided gay marriage, while Gavin was galavanting around the world looking for "progressive ideas" instead of paying attention to EssEff and it's serious problems....how many suicides off the bridge in all that time? why no action on that?

...there is no leadership, no vision and consequently no results. The city spends and spends, while muni declines (this is supposed to be a transit-first city?) and look where his two terms have us.....just a stepping-stone to the governor's mansion....same goes for Kamala and Leather Thong....this town is a joke, and it's literally no better off than when Gavin became mayor. Total Failure

And I really mean, "Meh. I've experienced better."

You can send all the hate mail you want but I'm getting into my second year in San Francisco and I've yet to be impressed. He borrowed a lot of ideas from Chicago with the bike paths, the recycling, and what's with the homeless here? Help him get off the streets will you?

I most certainly won't be voting for you in the future when you run for governor and I hope the voters won't forgive you for your infidelities with your best friend's wife.

I really really want to like Gavin.

Despite the fact that all women want to marry him and I don't think he's good looking at all, I still get a little starstruck those times I've seen him in person (sharing coffee at bike to work day, passing him while running bay to breakers) just because he's so well known.

However, as a mayor I find him disappointing.  He says a lot of good things yet I would be hard put to name anything he's done for the city.  Yes, he's a great proponent of gay rights and allowed gay marriage.  But if I look around the city now after 3 years, is it visibly better than it was before?

Gavin, I know it doesn't sound like fun but mayors have to be willing to roll up their sleeves and do work if they want to get things done, not just pontificate.

It's pretty amusing yet not surprising to me that a lot of people here on Yelp gave Newsom a one star solely because he reneged on giving Yelp their own day.

Cry me one.

Let's look at the big picture here, people.  For the most part, I believe the mayor has represented San Francisco well in terms of his opinions on gay rights, proposition 8, the care not cash program as well as other issues.  However, I've got to take away 1 star for the taxi issue here in SF.  God help you if you ever need a cab on a weekend night.  Of course we all know that some of his personal decisions haven't been the smartest, but that doesn't affect him in terms of being a mayor.

Everybody seems to be so confused as to why giving Yelp their own day would be controversial, but it's pretty blatant to me.   Yelp=controversy.  With the constant bickering on Yelp talk and between business owners and patrons, it's no wonder that the city wisely chose not to endorse Yelp and all its craziness and controversy, as much as I love it.  I don't blame them- Yelp has chosen to take a somewhat controversial path, and I appreciate that about the company, but it's no surprise that city politics did not choose to participate in the ridiculousness of it all.

If Newsom reads these, hopefully he's picking up some tips.

WAITING four years to readdress gay marriage, so it falls on during another election year, really speaks volumes. Why have you not created a more public and comprehensive dialogue about gay marriage, from 2004 to the present? Obviously your support for gay marriage is influential on the rest of the nation. If you are committed to this civil right, you should have used your influence more effectively since 2004 .  Dialogues, editorials, town meetings, hell tv specials, could have helped dispell the homophobia.

I feel your support for this issue is only surface deep. You haven't dedicated yourself to resolving this issue, but are using it only to gain favor.

Thanks.

Gay marriage isn't a political issue. It's a right. You used that right to get national attention, but you didn't secure the immediate accessibility of marriage for all.

Also, the torch.

San Francisco does a citywide protest or parade every month. There is no violence. Rarely are people and/or property damaged.

Thousands gathered to see the Olympic torch parade through our streets. Though China, amidst terrible human rights records, was hosting it, this could have been a time for listening, and perhaps healing. San Francisco could show the world how a legitimate protest could be staged. Tibetans would be heard, the Chinese supporters would be acknowledged.  Opposition could stand toe to toe, each side being present without violence!!

A P.R. campaign, PSAs and declarations that protecting the runner is of paramount importance during the torch relay would have saved the moment.

Instead, you secretly changed the route. What an asshole!

This was a time for unity, for presence of thought, for a show of support that two groups at odds could stand peacefully and be a presence for their own side.

Now, the Olympic commitee has erred with China and decided to discontinue the international torch relay.

You could have let San Francisco show them how it's done . Unfortunately, you have no idea what San Francisco even does.

311 is great. Healthy San Francisco is also great.
I know 311's been in other cities with great success, and was touted by Clinton back in the 90's. It's good to see two important programs implemented (by you or just under your watch? I'm not certain).  Margaret Cho Day is petty fabu.

The unforgivable moment was when a  $10,000 reward was offered for the capture of the killer of a young woman killed in a hit and run in 2006.

Not to take away from the tragedy, but to expose selfishness:

In 2004, the mayor's office protected police officers who shot and killed an innocent unarmed man pleading for his life. The murder occurred in front of dozens of witnesses. Their testimony was blocked from court. The cops were exonerated. The mayor refused to meet with the victim's mother, grandmother, daughters or community.

In '06, city had a 60% unsolved murder rate. I think the proximity of the hit and run's location to the wealthy residents of Pacific Heights played a role in the reward offer.

http://www.sfbg.com/38...

Your personal posturing, and painting over of legitimate solutions do nothing for the city and I believe they'll do nothing for the state.

I do declare every day No Hair Gel Day. No wait, I know, I'll renege on this at the last minute without really understanding the Great Hair Gel Controversy, and will trust one of my staff who also doesn't have all the facts.

Considering we started Yelp as a way for people to share their opinions about great local businesses, and to help the small Mom and Pop shops of the world, I guess Mr. Newsom is anti-business.

I'm thinking it isn't the brightest idea to say mean things about our Mayor, because that doesn't accomplish anything.

What I will say, however, is that I don't understand why today, December 3rd, couldn't be Yelp Day.  It's not like Yelp asked for December 25th or July 4th, you know?

http://sfist.com/2008/...

It's the Holiday Season, which means that when you give someone a present you should let them keep it.  Not hand them the present, watch them unwrap it, and then yank it out of their hands and return it to the store.

so nish says " I guess Mr. Newsom is anti-business."

my guess is that mr.newsom is actually anti-discrimintion, bigotry and hatred.  in fact he has worked his ass off for gay rights and continues to do so.  calling mr.newsom "anti-business" is just ridiculous- HE IS THE MAYOR OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD.

yelp has been deleting reviews that expose local businesses that have donated money to quite possibly the most hateful, disgusting piece of legislation i've ever had the pleasure of voting against.  basically, if you out someone as being a piece of shit hate monger on their yelp page, your review gets deleted.  and if you "omfg he took away our day" group of dim witted sycophants took one minute to examine that policy you might see why one of the cities greatest gay rights activists "took away your day".

half of the fucking yelp reviews on here are a giant waste of time, self indulgent and basically completely unhelpful- yet they remain.  in fact how many reviews that remain are fake and are created to boost a businesses rating or lower it by competitors??  the system itself is innately flawed, my own housekeeper who can barely turn on a computer was hounded by the yelp advertising sales force and was told by her account executive that if she decided to pay for advertising " he could help those bad reviews go away" and he would give her a month free to see how it worked for her.  and guess what, the review disappeared and she's back to 4 stars.

if you think yelp deleting negative reviews of businesses related to prop 8 has ANYTHING other then the almighty $$ as a motive, you need to have your head examined.

i love you gavin newsom, 5 stars all the way.  call me!! ;-)

I'm by far not a native, however I have been here long enough to trust in my city. And the man who runs the city I trust even more.

He's getting the Care Not Cash operation going (WOW), he stands behind my gay rights, and somehow embodies everything else that IS San Francisco.

I will vote for him when he runs for a bigger office. We just need to get that dumb actor out of Sacramento.

I think today's retraction of Yelp day just broke the camel's back. Here's a list of reasons Mr. Newsom (i'm sorry, I can't call him Mayor anymore unless it's followed by "of BS") gets one star:

* Retracting Yelp Day for no good reason.
* Overseeing a city that has the worst taxi organization in the world. I dare you to try and get a cab on a Friday or Saturday night Mr. Newsom.
* The state of our Muni system is a joke, why does it take 30 mins to go 3 freaking miles on some of the buses in this town.
* Being a poster boy for douchiness
* ... screw it, I'm not going to bother listing more. I'm just going to head to the Yelp party where it really is Yelp Day :)

Can't wait till the next mayor election...

What can you expect, Gavin is a true politician - what's in it for Gavin. You recall: Kimberly Guilfoyle, Ruby Rippey-Tourk, and for now Jennifer Siebel. Hey Jen "watch your back".

I'm so sorry I gave him my vote - thank goodness for term limits.

Everyday is a Yelp Day - who needs Gavin!

And now, the alleged future of the Democratic Party comes out against legalizing marijuana.  On what grounds, you ask?  He doesn't think the revenue from taxing and regulating California's largest crop would help solve the state's budget woes.

This guy is about as progressive as the Blue Dog Democrats and about as intelligent as Mortimer Snerd.  And that's an insult to Mortimer.

Oh well, it looks like I have to give this turkey one star...though please realize, it was not my choice.  My review is ZERO stars.

Without a doubt, Newsom has to be the worst excuse for a mayor in San Francisco's history.  Yes, he pushed for gay marriage, and then, through total incompetence, helped destroy it..."WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!!!"  I mean, didn't he stop, for even a millisecond, and think about how that was going to go over?

No, Newsom governs by press release.  When he does seem to have a good idea, you can be pretty sure that he is taking credit for something someone else though up...and that he will probably manage to run it into the ground.  He became mayor by taking away assistance from the handful of homeless people actually lucid enough to navigate the system and get it, and he did that by lying and saying that they were using it for drugs and alchohol.  Now, that money comes from panhandling, theft and other criminal behavior like prostitution.  Sorry, but he need to be recalled, and fast, before he does anymore damage.

Why the HELL are there Yelp Reviews on Mayor Gavin Newsom?

I'm giving 5 stars since this is hilarious!!
And of course, I have to add to it.

Does anyone else think his scratchy voice makes him sound like a creep?

To be perfectly fair, I could give a crap about Yelp Day. I had a fab time at the holiday party without it being Yelp day. Official proclamations don't increase my importance as a Yelper just as a proclamation for Lindy in the Park day didn't make my dancing any better a couple of years ago.

However it does say something about the integrity of his office to let a officer influence what comes out of City Hall because he has an axe to grind because he isn't getting his way on a freaking website. There are rules axe grinder, aka dumb ass, to any user generated site simply because it ends up being a community. Kind of like a civilization without faces.

Anyway great power play on your part. You make your boss look like a douche and you look like a total ass. I hope this high school mentality treats you well.

Mayor Gavin Newsome is still the hottest thing walking though. We still need a hair change and you need to rope in your office a bit better.

Come on Gavin. Focus.

A lot of good ideas, and good speeches - but where's the follow up?

Remember that promise that SF would have 10% of all trips by bike, by 2010? Yeah....

All those green words mean very little, if car drivers keep getting priority.
