"The perfect lobster roll for lunch"
The Mayflower, which has been is operation for nearly 80 years, was the place for the best lobster roll. Keeping it simple is its success. Chunks of sweet lobster with just a touch of mayo served on a warm toasted roll with french fries and cole slaw. A perfect 10 for this lunch.

Are you a heterosexual family from the Midwest with young children? And you're visiting Provincetown? Really? You could go to Hyannis or some other town, you know. There's a mall there.
Sigh. Ok, fine. Here's the restaurant for you. The food is fine, there are hot dogs for your ankle biters and overpriced seafood dishes for you. You'll feel comfortable here, it will feel just like the restaurants at home. But you won't have the volume of gays to stare at that you'd find at other restaurants, you'll have to do a couple more laps up and down Commercial to get your open-mouthed staring time in.
Middle of nowhere location, mediocre food, pricey..

This place had OK food at an OK price. I do not think I would go out of my way for this place, especially knowing it is surrounded by better restaurants. However it does serve a good variety of food, as well as trying to stick to its roots of the town.
The Mayflower is a slice of Olde Cape Cod. It features home cooking that is hard to find these days. Indian pudding, chicken croquettes and real fish cakes made from salt cod make me think I am hearing Patty Paige singing "Old Cape Cod." I am home when I am at the Mayflower.
None of the drawings on the wall are of famous people -- they are locals from the 1940s. Some who visit P-town are too fab for The Mayfower. That's fine -- all the more indian pudding for me.
Any place that is over 50 yrs old serving fried food and carpeted gets stars deducted. It felt gross in there especially with the air conditioning units spewing more dusty musty. The lobster was good. They certainly are an institution given all the famous faces profiled on the walls.
The mayflower is definitely a tourist trap. It's located smack dab in the middle of Commercial Street, and overflows with loud families in the summer. It could use a makeover inside, the booths are hard, and falling apart. The bathrooms are tiny, and the overall decor is very seventies. The service however is great, the servers are polite, and the food comes fast. The food is nothing amazing, but isn't bad either. They have everything, like seafood and burgers, to vegetarian burgers and salads.
