I was brought here by a friend for dinner one night, and now every time I visit we go here to eat. The place is warm, friendly and clean. They also have lots of cool rock 'n' roll posters on the wall and there is always great classic rock on the stereo. For dining your best bets are the huge pulled pork sandwich and the Santa Fe Max (a Mexican insipired chicken with rice and beans). Everything is reasonably priced. When in Beacon go to Max's.

Cool atmosphere
Tasty food
Ample beer selection
This place was a dichotomy as soon as I walked in. Pre-happy hour on a not-yet-busy Friday, the bartender/waitress was stand-offish and seemingly suspicious of me, while, after pulling away from his conversation for a moment, the gentleman who appeared to be the manager/owner greeted me enthusiastically and warmly. After a few minutes, though, I wasn't news, and things evened out.
The beer selections were very mostly just the standards, but not too bad (5 taps, maybe 20 bottles, about 3-4 of which were tougher to find). The menu was relatively broad, and there were specials, too. I had the tomato florentine soup (a special) and the Firecracker Shrimp (menu item). Both were presented very nicely and were about a B or so for flavor, and the shrimp were very legitimately hot, which was nice. Each a little more expensive than I'd expect, but not overly so.
There's no denying this place's attraction. I don't always stop in Beacon NY, but when I do...I believe it will be to stop at Max's. -

Max's is a great neighborhood hang out. The bartender (woman) is super nice and engaging and everyone there is there to have a really good time. I like the layout, the food is great (I really loved the battered fish), and it was a nice mix of people. It was my first time in Beacon, NY and I wil be back and I will be back to Max's On Main!

Hands down my favorite bar and restaurant in the Hudson Valley. Food is reasonably priced and very good. Nice selection of drafts and bottles...where else in the Hudson Valley can you kick back a Lone Star? The thing that makes this place really, really special though are the owners.
Also they have great live music on Fridays and Saturdays. -

I've ended up here on several occasions and never been disappointed. While I've not yet seen the place packed, the drinks are always good and wings always filling. (Really good wings!)
They don't have a ton of beers on tap, but enough to satisfy most non-discrimination beer drinkers. The menu is pretty extensive for a bar, and really does have something for pretty much anyone.
I will definitely stop by here anytime I'm in Beacon. -

Really loved this place, the service was super friendly and fast on a busy Friday night. To be honest, we were not expecting much from the pub-food menu, what an amazing surprise that the food was really delicious. My burger was top notch and my husband's pulled pork was easily one of the best we've ever tried. I would certainly stop back here is in the neighborhood.

Okay, this review is specifically for the Phamous Phish Tacos, because I am totally addicted! A few years ago I would not have entertained the thought of eating 'fish tacos'. Fish and tacos just didn't go together in my mind! Out to dinner one night at Max's, a girl next to me had this dish that looked outrageous and I asked her what it was - Phamous Phish Tacos - so I ordered them. The taste was even better than I could have expected! They seem so simple, tortilla, fish, chipotle mayo, cabbage, cilantro & lime!
Recently I ordered these To Go and, unfortunately, when I arrived at my destination I found someone forgot to put the slices of lime in the box! To my delight, I called and the owner hand-delivered fresh lime to me! I felt completely psycho calling about the missing lime, but it is totally the finishing touch and is a must!
One more thing. You'll find the Phish Tacos under Crisp Beginnings. I would really like to see these as a meal, maybe with sweet potato fries or a small salad with mexican flavor dressing & avocado!
Enjoy! -

Great bar to hang with friends, just down the road for me on Main Street. Good food, fair prices. Great place to unwind and kick back.

This bar was a favorite of mine when I was a local. Always reasonably priced, with really friendly and attentive staff. If you're a regular, they'll have your favorite drink ready to go before you even sit down. Try the skirt steak, I ended up ordering it every time I ate there, it's great.

I've eaten at Max's several times over the last couple of years. I've never been disappointed by the food, its always tasty. The restaurant itself is cozy and nice, and the location is great. The owners are very friendly and always prowling around the restaurant to greet you or make sure you're enjoying your meal, which is really great. You can tell they enjoy running their restaurant and want to make sure their customers are happy.
I haven't frequented the bar/alcohol selection but I did order an iced coffee and the bartender made a special cup of decaf iced coffee. Also-The bartender was the most accommodating doting bartender ever, he checked to make sure I had adequate half & half & ice, offered me refill the instant I was 90% done with my iced coffee. I was impressed with him. So I believe this place hires good bartenders at least from my personal experience.
All in all this is one of the better restaurants in Beacon IMHO, and best of all its reasonably priced! -

Beacon, NY
Max's is my favorite restaurant in Beacon. We go there at least once a week. Whenever we have friends in town we take them to Max's and it's always a hit. People want to go back the next time they visit.
You can't go wrong with any of their burgers or sandwiches. My favorites are the Max Burger, the Portobello Mushroom Burger, Fried Phish Fillet sandwich, and the Avaocado & Cheddar sandwich. The fish tacos and wedge salad are also winners.
Except for the burgers, which are normal sized, everything else is served in an insanely huge portion (even the appetizers) so plan on sharing with your friends.
On Friday and Saturday nights there is usually a great local band (usually a cover bad, but not always) and it's also a great sports bar when a big game is on tv.
The owners are super nice and always there to make sure everyone is happy. It's truly a "Cheers" vibe with lots of locals. -

New York, NY
Nearly five years later, it's still my favorite place in Beacon. The food is delicious, the drinks are strong, and the music is foot-tapping good.
I always bring friends with me to Max's so we can catch up over a few pints of beers at the bar. When we're hungry, where else can we get fish tacos, pierogies, and a platter of baby back ribs? The menu has something for everyone, and the bar always has a long, rotating list of beer in bottles and on draft.
The staff feels like family and so do the regulars. So it's not wonder that when I'm upstate for the weekend you'll find me at a high table in the back. Five years later, and everybody seems to know my name -- and they know exactly which table to seat me at.Listed in: Hudson Valley Favorites

Review from Sabeen A.
I met a friend at Max's for dinner and drinks, and made a mental note to bring other friends here as well.
Having been to some awful dive bars in the Beacon/Fishkill area, (we shall not name names... but you might know what i'm talking about), Max's is a welcome change.
The bar area is often full and busy, and there's always something going on like open mic night, karaoke, or just plain ol' great music. A game or two is on on the tv's, and if you come here more than once, its likely that you'll see a familiar face who'll be friendly enough to say hi.
Dinner and the app's are good - the mushroom sandwich is tasty, and so are some of the other menu items. Maxtini's are the way to go as well.
From the street, you'd never know that the quiet-looking pub on the corner, has fantastic service, a friendly mixed-age crowd, and something fun always going on.Listed in: It's not Upstate if Metronorth…, An evenin' in Beacon

Max's - pub food done right! I've had a few meals here and all were delicious, from the quesadillas to the pulled pork sandwich to the pierogies! Love the corn fritters that you can get on the side. Definitely a step up from typical bar fare.
The only thing I've been disappointed with are the wings. They had a weird flavor, almost like a Mexican seasoning or chili seasoning on them, when I was expecting straight Buffalo.
I'd also like to add that we have many excellent restaurants in this area, including Max's, and I feel bad for anyone who thinks otherwise! -
Review from Mike M.
I've been to Max's a few times now and even though it seems like my kind of place, it has yet to wow me. I just haven't been blown away by any of the food.
The burgers and sandwiches are alright, but once again, Max's is another place that can't seem to cook the burger as requested. I don't think anyone really knows how to do that, anymore. The first time I went there, I had an order of wings which tasted reheated, ugh. The Max's Almost Famous Sauce was nothing special, not sure if it's an original recipe, but it tasted like sauce I've purchased before at the supermarket. Other times, the wings were fresh, but just tasted ok.
The service is good and the dining area is clean. They get some points for the Star Wars poster and the cool old hippie rock flyers. Maybe the bar is where the fun is at. I wouldn't say Max's is horrible, but I wouldn't really go out of my way for it, either.Listed in: Burgers

Not bad of a spot I must say. Unfortunately I pre-judged this spot from the get go but since I was with a few people, they chose this place.
First off, I always say, if you can do a long island justice then you got my full attention and Max's definitely delivered.
The first buzz is always important ... And who knows, maybe it was the fact that I didn't eat much but I'm a meatful dude so the buzz was justified.
The enviroment was cool, low key, and the tv's were small tinkish but it fit well with that spot.
The food was pretty good as well. I had the honey bourbon chicken sandwich with onion bread with perfected cheese coating. It would've been better if my bread wasn't toasted, but that's on me.
Price was average for the food and good prices for the drinks.
All in all, this is a returnable spot -

Putnam, NY
It is local, and it offers a warm welcome to all. The service was on point, and they offered the right amount of attention when needed. I feel that the one thing better than having a drink or 2 with friends, is when your server buys a drink here and there. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not looking at it in a "free loader" way, I just believe, it is a nice way of showing one appreciation, as this is a way of showing mine. We ordered the Fish Taco, and the Fire Cracker Shrimp. The food was fresh, and the presentation was as just as it tasted, GOOD.

Went there last night for dinner with my boyfriend - we sat in the bar, really cool, down-to-earth atmosphere. I got a cobb salad, which can be boring at some places, not here! It was delicious. Service was fine, waitress was attentive, but didn't bug us too much since we were on a date. Drinks got refilled in a timely manner, very important. They have a nice wine selection, good beer on tap. Had some guy playing some 90's alt-rock covers on his guitar. Me like very much, will be visiting again. Only gave 4 stars on account it was my first time.

My wife and delivered half a couch, IKEA bookshelf and some other items in our garage to CAS on Saturday morning.
I did a Yelp search and Max's on Main came up so that is where we decided to head for lunch.
This funky bar/restaurant is the type of place that every town needs to grab a casual quick dinner or lunch.
We began with the nachos. Tri-colored chips came smothered with cheese, chili, salsa, jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole etc. Our waitress had warned us that it was a very large platter. I had dismissed her warning...I shouldn't have. The portion, for a mere $9.95, was huuuuuuge. More importantly, these were probably among the best nachos I have ever eaten in a restaurant. Kudos to Max!
Wife ordered a caesar salad with fried chicken tenderloins. She thought the chicken was a bit burnt and could have used more dressing, though overall it was good.
CAS ordered the cheeseburger. It looked outstanding. It was served on a fine looking onion roll. He declared it to be very juicy. It came with steak fries that were dunked slightly in some type of breadcrumb that gave them an excellent crunch.
I had ordered the pastrami reuben. Unfortunately, the waitress only heard pastrami sandwich. Lucky for me that she had heard hold the russian dressing. The rye bread needed a light toasting and sauerkraut, mustard and swiss cheese would have concealed the dry homemade pastrami. I ended up eating just the pastrami along with mustard and some of the cole slaw that came on the side.
Other than the miscommunication with my sandwich our waitress was excellent.
We passed on dessert. -

Food was ok but I wouldnt go back because they made me remove my head covering in order to eat in their restaurant. Its a dumpy bar not a 5 star establishment so get over yourselves. Not a particularly friendly staff. I don't recommend.

Home away from home!
Easy foodies... I know we're not in the culinary capital of the world, but if you want a great plate of comfort, great service, great drinks, you can't beat it. The fish tacos are like crack, fire cracker shrimp = amazing, and don't forget to try their chicken soup to take the chill off. Max's really does treat everyone like family. -

The food was okay. Portions too big. Service kind of slow. Splitting out bill was too complicated for them.
But good drinks and fun times. A great place for a group to go hang out. I'd love to go back when there is a band -

Beacon, NY
This place has been a second home for me. First the food is great, some of the best burgers in town and always cooked to order. The bar has the atmosphere that it makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. The staff is ultra friendly and the bartenders are good at their craft. Great place to bring friends, family, or even a date.

If I could carry this bar with me and stop there whenever I was thirsty I would - Two great brothers run this place and have amassed an impressive collection of dead head memorabilia - of particular interest are their Filmore East schedules from back in the day - priceless and very cool. If you are in Beacon, this is the one and only place to hang your hat for a few hours or longer...

Max's is my favorite place to eat in Beacon. We go there often from Brooklyn and it's better than any neighborhood place we live near by. Solid comfort food that is always consistently fresh. They have an perfectly spicy bloody mary and I've never had one thing to complain about after eating there a good ten to twelve times. The two guys who run the place could not be friendlier and more engaging. I love Max's!!!

Review from Eric D.
Philadelphia, PA
This is a case of Yelp over inflating a place of business. However I won't fault the Yelpers because in the 2 weeks I spent in this area I found it to be a culinary wasteland populated by mostly sushi places, half assed mexican joints and your typical suburban sprawl eateries. Maybe this is what the locals have come to expect of their restaurants. Maybe serving a heritage beer like Lone Star is "cool" and "exciting" to the residents of Beacon, I'll never know.
When I stepped into this eatery I felt as if I was on an episode of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I even picked through my food like he does. The bar was alive, vibrant and full of people. The dining room was empty except for 2 other tables. I chalked this up to it being a week night and nothing much going on. The menu looked good. Some solid specials and all. I was in the mood for wings and something on the spicy side so I went with a Blue Moon, wings with "max's almost famous sauce" which hopefully doesn't ever become famous and a bowl of chili. All the descriptions of the food were great. I was really hungry. After our timid waitress took our orders we were provided some bread but sadly it was just 4 hamburger buns. Literally like out of a bag. Something that until that night I would only eat while extremely drunk or if I ran out of lunch meat while I was sick and had nothing in the house to eat.
The wings were a disappointment. The meat was cooked good and hot, juicy and full of flavor however the skin was entirely too soggy and slimy. Not appetizing. It threw off whatever redeeming value the meat had underneath. Next my chili I thought was a joke compared to how good the menu made it sound. It was a massive portion but soupy, not reduced, filled with gigantic inconsistently flavored meat and just over all tasteless. Add to the fact that it had a healthy dose of store bought cheddar all over it and I just wasn't feeling this dish. I didn't even make a dent in it. I can't even remember when I didn't finish a meal before. I promptly left after I hunted down my waitress (who disappeared after the food was served) and got my check.
Now the plus was the decor was cool, it is inviting looking and the neighborhood is a little gritty which is cool but unless I'm reading it wrong it has an over inflated ego when it comes to the quality of it's food. I most likely will never ever eat here again. -
