Do they use msg?

I'm pretty sure they do! Again, just ask them when they take your order, pretty much common sense here🙄🤔😆.

I see this restaurant all the time when I'm on lunchbreak lol just kidding but it is near Costco. I'm not really a fan of Filipino food but I decided what the heck, I was hungry and everyone wanted to eat here so okay...
Service here could be better..they could also try cleaning their seats. As I was sitting down, I saw on the seat next to me some sort of wet discolored spot. I don't know if it was from the people before us that they spilled something or what BUT IT WAS NASTY. Our waiters also had a strong accent and I'm sorry but I could not understand what he was saying. I needed him to repeat stuff and eventually I just gave up trying and decided to go with my gut about what to get on the menu.
Half of us have not been here so of course we would need more time to order. I mean that's a given for first-timers at any restaurant. But our waiters kept coming back asking if we were ready when obviously we were not and we were also waiting on another person. When we were finally ready to order...we could not find anyone to help us. WOW SERIOUSLY. I was staring at the them actually, thinking they'd get the idea but nope. So I guess since we turned them down several times, they don't wanna take our orders no more.
Some guy finally helped us like half an hour later...I also found that the right time to tell him that the seat next to me needs to be cleaned. He looked at me like I was stupid or something and I gestured and actually showed him cause he may as well been blind. UGHH could this get any worse? Yes, it did. My friend found a hair in her food. EWWWW.
As for my food, it was alright. I got the fiesta plate and I also liked the shanghai lumpia. The other dishes my friends got didn't look appealing to me lol..I think it was pinakbet and pancit palabok. Oh yeah, their dessert has amazing presentation BUT THAT'S IT. With the nasty seat and hair in friend's food, I'm not coming back here.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Janette B.Waipahu, HI0513Feb 29, 2024Updated review
Came here last night for my uncles Birthday w/a party of 11. Despite being a Wednesday evening it wasn't crazy busy like it used to be yrs ago. I guess with all the road construction happening around Dillingham Blvd. Needless to say we were seated right away.
We went to town & ordered a feast. Our server Daniel gave us exceptional service withl the foods we ordered in a timely manner.
Pancit canton
Pork lauya
Bbq sticks (wouldn't recommend my son had the hardest time trying to chew it lol.. maybe we went on an Off night)
Fried chix w/fries
Pork Liempo
Fried Bangus
Fresh lumpia
Crispy Pata
Pinakbet
Kangkong salad
Fried calamari/Shanghai
Garlic rice.. not sure if I got everything we ordered but you get my drift.
Daniel was very attentative even if he had other tables to wait on. Kudos to you manong..
Would recommend coming here. Big dining area. Clean restrooms. Or course after dinner can't leave with out having halo-halo.
Lots of free parking outside shared by Costco & other surrounding businesses..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 2, 2018Previous reviewCame here for a family dinner. We op-ed for the set dinner for 10. BAD IDEA. They have things on the set menu like dessert but serve ice cream instead. Y'all need to update your menu on the web. Another joke was the soup they serve with the set menu. It just seems like it's water put in a pot mixed with flour, mixed up some veggies and called it a soup. Even adding hot sauce didn't make it taste any good. Won't be going back... I've had better Filipino food at North star, Gerry's to name a few.

Came here on a late lunch. This place is by Costco. I was anticipating crazy parking but it was not. Maybe because it was a weekday. We found parking right away.
I wanted to compare this to the restaurant to the one in San Diego that is always a disappointment. I can say this was not disappointing. Food was great and tasty. Lechon kawali was cooked to crispy perfection. Dinuguan was okay. But it's hard to compete with my mom's version. The chicharon bulaklak could be crispier. But still very good and well seasoned. Pancit canton was delicious. Noodles were not soggy. But the winner of the say is the bulalo. Broth was very good. Beef melted in my mouth.
Servers were very friendly and nice. The place is pretty big.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 1, 2023
Filipino fare in Honolulu! Being Filipino; I was definitely excited to check out Max's Restaurant-Dillingham. This restaurant is located at the same plaza as Costco and so it definitely made for the perfect dinner spot post Costco run.
It was a Wednesday night but the place was packed as there were even two Filipino birthday parties! Despite being a bit busy; we were able to get seated fairly quickly.
Our dinner choices for the night inlcuded Lechon Kawaii, Laing, Chicken Sisig, Beef Sinigang and Kare Kare. Overall the Filipino food was good. I did notice some dishes were a bit on the salty side though. The Singing was definitely one of the dishes where I felt there was bit too much salt. I was also surprised to see so much mayonnaise in the Chicken Sisig. I think out of all the dishes; the Kare Kare was my favorite.
It was nice to be able to check this place out. Though some of the dishes were a little off in terms of salt and sauce; it was still a good meal!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Apr 12, 2024Updated review2 check-ins

I ordered the Boose and the Lich yeah I know already yeah do you have Apple Pay or not one Filipino favorite with of course, to roll lumpia withMakapuno ice cream goodHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Dec 16, 2023Previous reviewKind of run down, probably would not stay to eat there. there is not very many people for dinner that night looking at the food it did look authentic Filipino.
The Lechon was excellent, however which is what I ordered to go. I would probably take out again. I had been looking for a good Filipino restaurant for a while not taste in the other food, but was willing to try in the future. - Oct 24, 2023
Max's is well-known in the Filipino community.
My family and I went there around 2:15pm for a late lunch, and had the Lumpia, Laing, Pinakbet, Fried Chicken, Bihon, and the Halo-Halo.
My favorites were the Lumpia, Pinakbet (veggie dish), the Bihon (noodle dish), and the Halo-Halo (dessert).
Service was not a problem for me. They show up to take your order and clear plates. They check in every once in a while, but mostly they provide privacy. The staff was friendly and understanding of my toddler who wanted to walk around often.
The ambiance is very family-friendly, kid-friendly, and casual.
4/5 overall because the fried chicken was cooked well and flavored well, but the Max's chicken in the Philippines tastes better. The rest of the food was 5/5.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 2024
Well I will admit I am not an expert when it comes to Filipino food but I liked my lunch here a lot. My aunty suggested this place so I happily went along with her and my cousin. They ordered the lechon, fried chicken, garlic rice, and canton pancit. Everything was delicious, portions were good and service was friendly and efficient. No complaints hope to return soon.

MAX's Resturant aka Filipino food style Resturant, Max's Been at this location for a while now for what I know and seems like at times lots of people come here and eat at this Resturant (for what I see when I always do my Costco runs) since it's right there in the same parking lot as Costco. As for the size capacity of the Resturant it's a decent big size Resturant with lots of seating space and also they have a private room as well for parties etc.
Parking - Lets talk parking you don't have too worry about parking at all at this location Tons of parking space and stalls and best of it it's free parking so it's always a plus specially when comes too parking (IMO)
Let's talk FOOD - The food here IMO is decent if you ask me coming from a Filipino background myself, there's only a few things I really like here at Max's and one of its is not a Food Entree dish but a dessert and it's there HALO HALO There HALO HALO here is like 4.5 out 5 STARS if you ask me. Another One I like aka food dish entree I'd say that it is good that I recently tried is there BANGUS SISIG on a sizzling platter IMO it was a good dish and I myself was surprise when I took a bite into it. There's other dishes that Max's serve but ahhh I've tasted better from home cooking and other restaurants.
Would i recommend other customers who craving for Filipino food to come and check out this restaurant of COURSE I would definitely RECOMMEND people to check out MAX's Restaurant.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - 300171614Sep 10, 2023Updated review
I don't like writing bad reviews, but I feel like the service here has been subpar every time we come. I only come here when I'm invited to parties and even then, when I find out the event is being held here it's very difficult for me to says yes because I know the type of service we would be getting.
I held off so long with writing a review but I feel that I have brought it up with management here so many times and nothing has been done. So this past event I came when, the server was being extremely rude it was time to make it known.
PATRICK was our server and the amount of rudeness and attitude we received from him was unacceptable. First the food and drinks were late. It was fine, but we had to constantly ask the status. The event was at 6 and food arrived at 715. Supposedly we only had the place until 830 so we were getting worried. Drinks came about 10 mins after. When asked about it he response was a curt "we're busy, you're not the only ones here".
Then later when we asked for extra utensils, Patrick said I set up 40 because that's the reservations I don't know why you're asking for more.
Having worked in the service industry in the past, I know how hard it can be, but being rude does not get you anywhere.
I hope management sees this and address the issue. It's not only this specific server, it's for the Max of Manila's service in general because it's always difficult to get good and kind service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 16, 2014Previous reviewI've eaten at this (Dillingham) location on many occasions-for parties and just because- and service has not improved whatsoever, in fact it seems to have gotten worse over time. Yes, they're busy, I understand that, but you should, by no means ignore the customer. I asked 4 different waiters for my water to be refilled and each time my request was ignored. Nonetheless I went the entire meal without water, I had to let my ice melt. Minus 1 for that.
We had ordered dessert, halo halo and vanilla ice cream. The halo halo came out after 5 minutes, however it had chunks of ice in it instead of shaved ice and was very bland, no sweetness to it whatsoever. I had finished my halo halo and my husband's ice cream and not come out yet. It had taken 30 for the ice cream to arrive. Minus 1 for that.
The food-pork adobo and pancit canton, were extremely salty-the reason why I ran out of water quickly (see first paragraph about the water ordeal). Minus 1.
If you really want to eat at a Max of Manila, I would suggest eating at the Waipahu location. Service is much better there. - Oct 13, 2023
Service wasn't great at all - We got no refills on our waters the whole night and our waitress was no where to be found. She had no personality at all.
It wasn't even busy that night either. They don't take reservation and the food tasted rushed- Karekare had absolutely no flavor. Great for parties not to just dine in on a random dinner night.
Lots of parking outside. Located near Costco & Yellow Cab.Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 2 - Marie Lei C.HI, HI041Feb 25, 2024
Their food is good. Really good. Lechon kawali Sisig and crispy pasta is my fave.
Their customer service NEEDS WORK! Horrible! Not once has anyone come by to bring more water we had to wave him down several times. To get a waiters attention takes forever because they are all running around. The water brought to us was watered down sprite. Disgusting. The wrong dish was brought out for us in the beginning as well. They need training so that service goes smoothly. We sat waiting for our check, plates empty, cups empty, we even cleaned our table and stacked our dishes...nearly 20 mins.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
