I get very attached to things...like my CA driver's license. Even though I've been in NY for over 5 years, I just keep renewing that thing. And I practically cried when I had to clean out my room and throw out everything from first grade on (hello kitty pencil box, i still miss you). So when I found out that my optometrist on the west coast, who I've been going to for years, didn't accept my new insurance (Davis Vision), I was upset. How silly of me...of course there's no reason to worry when there's Yelp!
This place goes above and beyond. Not only was the eye exam thorough, quick and efficient, I don't think I've ever had better service at an eye place. I came in clutching my 10-year-old pair of glasses (attachment issues again)...I was so sure I wasn't going to find a pair I liked or that I would have to come back another day with several friends in tow. I was amazed that after my eye exam, Dr. Rosen knew exactly which frames would suit my face and style. She, Calvin and another customer all helped me narrow down the choices and make my final decision. As someone who usually shies away from wearing glasses in public, I can't wait to flaunt my awesome, trendy new glasses!
Both Dr. Rosen and Calvin are very friendly. My eye exam was quick and professional and selecting my glasses was fun with Calvin's suggestions and patience.
What really stood out to me about Maximeyes was their response when I realized I had ordered anti-reflective lenses but didn't need them. They contacted the lab to see if I could get a refund -- and then offered to give me 50% off if the lab had already done the work.
I needed an eye exam done because apparently you can't renew your contact lens prescription if you haven't had your eyes checked within the year. I'm originally from Cali where I regularly see an optometrist who I have gained trust for in the last years. I have this weird thing about eyes - I hate anyone touching them, hate seeing other people touch their own eyeballs, etc. Needless to say, i don't just let anyone touch my eyes. But since I'm now in NY and I didn't want to fork over $300 to fly back to Cali, I decided to try my luck and find an optometrist here.
I actually found this place through yelp and chose it because people were ranting and raving about this place, it was close to my house and my insurance covered it. I made an appointment and they gave me one within the week. +1 star.
It's the day of my appointment, I walk in and I'm greeted by the friendly receptionist. +1 star i sign in and this lady takes me to this back room without introducing herself or even saying hi. Mind you, I'm in the healthcare field and not giving an introduction is breaking the number one cardinal rule of patient care. Ummm, who are you and are you authorized to touch my EYE of all things?? The rest of the appointment went by pretty smoothly. I felt like she rushed a little bit but I suppose she knew what she was doing. Her equipment was a kinda old school but she's the only OD and theres only one room, not a big deal.
At the end, the optometrist gives me my prescription and orders a years supply of contacts for me. She even hooked up with a rebate for my contact order. That sorta made up for her lack of introduction. + 1 star. Before I leave, I thank the OD and the receptionist, grab a card and say "you're Dr. Rosen right?" She chuckled a little out of embarrassment because she finally realized she forgot to tell me who she was and said "yes"
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Dr. Rosen, you saved my BF's eyesight. Within ten minutes, Dr. Rosen diagnosed my BF with a rare form of glaucoma. Five minutes later, Dr. Rosen personally walked us to the emergency room for medical treatment. She also waited with us in the emergency room for three hours and personally consulted with the MD about her diagnosis. After three surgeries, his glaucoma is under control. I have never been treated with such kindness and concern-ever!!!! I feel like Dr. Rosen was a part of my family.
Calvin, the optician, is an artist! His craftsmanship is unheard of in a time like now. He is the only optician I trust for perfection. Not only does Calvin make my glasses and my BF's, but my entire family flies to NYC from SC to get glasses from Calvin-of course, Dr. Rosen examines their eyes every time they visit me.
I have never felt pressured into buying anything from them. They accepted my insurance-what little my insurance company did pay and made me feel like I was their number one customer.
I cannot thank Maximeyes enough for everything they have done for me and my family. I am a customer for life!!!!!!
Thank you so much Dr. Rosen and Calvin! I truly owe you both more than I can ever express.
My father always told me to have a good pair of shoes, a good bed as we are always in one or the other but he also told me to buy good glasses through which to see the world. He was a wize old soul and his advice has never done me wrong. So I got a good recommendation from a friend on a eye glass / optical store in Chelsea.
I made an appointment for last Tuesday. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of frames and the staff were helpful and knew what they were doing - they picked out 4 pairs that were exactly what I was looking for..I am not sure how they do that but Kelvin (sp?) was spot on. I got a thorough exam from Dr Rosen and whilst the store was busy - it wasnt too hectic. As for the frames I got great Bevels and feel like they are dressy (for work) but could be used casually too. They took my insurance and I am psyched for my friends to see them. I dont like picking out new glasses but this was a good experience. I'll be back for my shades I bet.
This place is great! They have a small staff (two as far as I know) and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, not rushed, and they'll go in depth on your vision benefits (assuming you have some) to make sure you get the best deal possible. I'd give them 5 stars if they had more frames to choose from, though the selection they have is quite good. Overall excellent.
Calvin is super helpful and really tries to minimize costs for you. I have Davis Vision, which I hear is not all that great anyway. But Calvin really works with you to find a way to maximize (no pun intended) your benefits. Dr. Rosen is also very thorough. Even though I live in Jersey City, I would keep coming over the river to see them. Contacts are a bit pricey, but I space them out pretty good and never buy a full years supply anyway.
My experience at Maximeyes was, hands down, the best experience I've ever had at an eye appointment.
Dr. Rosen was absolutely AWESOME! I've been to several other places and I was extremely impressed with how thorough her exam was. She spent nearly 30 minutes with me trying to figure out exactly what was wrong with one of my eyes. She wouldn't stop until we were 100% sure that we had found the correct prescription for each of my eyes, and she had me try on several pairs of contacts to make sure they fit me perfectly, were comfortable, and were the correct prescription.
Basically, she was great!!
She also spent time helping me pick out the perfect pair of frames for my glasses! She was really nice, as was Calvin who works at the front desk! He is so helpful, and just a cool guy! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!!!!!! GO HERE!!! You won't regret it!! :)
Great little gem of a place in Chelsea for those looking for quality eye care at good prices and also those interested in high fashion eyewear. The staff is very friendly and helpful and I can't count how many times I've stopped by to have eyeglasses adjusted, screws replaced or tightened, etc... which they gladly do without charge or complaint.
Maximeyes is exactly what you'd expect from a small independent shop which is above and beyond what you'd find at a chain store. Another thing I like is that you can have everything explained clearly with what services or products you're getting. I got glasses from Cohen's Optical years ago and misread some notation on a contract and ended up paying $125 more than I originally thought which got me to swear off chain stores.
Note: Another interesting thing here is that they do a fashion consultation with you to match the glasses you to your face, hairstyle and overall personal style. Hehe, felt like I was getting some kind of make over.
Went to get new contacts and check my prescription before I wasted my insurance (VSP) for the year, but my experience was speedy, efficient and pleasant (and Maximeyes is open on weekends). Can't say much about glasses since I didn't get any, but looked like they had a solid selection of frames. At $30 a box, there are definitely cheaper places to get contacts but I'm lazy. Would definitely go back to check my prescription.
After my horrible experience @ Mott Street Optical, I decided I should go someplace else for my glasses now that I had my prescription. I definitely wanted to give my business to an independent store so I searched good ol yelp and found Maximeyes Optical - THANK YOU YELP!
I dragged Stan w/ me since I can never make a decision on my own. I wasn't expecting much after all the bad luck i've been having trying to find the right frames at multiple stores but the minute we walked into the store, I was pleased at the set up. All of their frames were displayed in large wooden cases that you could pull out and try on yourself, no more waiting for a clerk to come over and pull out each and every one for you. I also loved the mirrors they had in the store, full length and portrait, much better than the vanity stand type mirrors they have most shops. Calvin, co-owner of the shop was a great help, gave no pressure, just advice. I thought they had a great selection of Japanese brands, none of the common designers that you would normally find, i.e. Chanel, Prada, Calvin Klein, etc; I wasn't really looking for that, I just wanted nice frames that would look and fit good. After narrowing my choices down to 4, I finally decided on a Kitami frame. When it was time to order them, I was dreading the final bill, as my prescription is so high it usually costs me a fortune. The final cost was $223! Can you believe that? That's including frames, micro thin lenses, anti scratch, and anti reflective coating. And I got them in 5 business days. That's sure beats the $400+ I paid 3 yrs ago at Cohen's, never again.
PS: I have Davis Vision Insurance
I love this eyeglass store!! i went here on the recommendation of a friend with fabulous chic glasses. As soon as I entered this store, it had a really great vibe, more like a Chelsea gallery than a vision shop, complete with art on the walls. The staff was enthusiastic about their products and so helpful. With their guidance, I was able to narrow my decision down to three (THREE!!) frames. For my tiny face, I usually dread looking for glasses, because everything looks too big. I chose this great frame by Salt, a brand I have not seen anywhere else. They had all styles, from the current heavy plastic retro trend to streamlined stainless steels and titaniums and lots of color. I tried them all! I had an eye exam which was so easy and comfortable and thorough. I am going back to pick out my new sunglasses here soon. Fellow Yelp-ers, dont even bother going anywhere else! Five stars plus!
