Went here for a friend's bday lunch celebration.
Ordered calamari and pear salad for appetizer. For entrees we shared Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, the Lobster Mac and Cheese, and Toasted parma Proscuitto. The only thing I was able to eat was the seafood. I've had better calamari , it didn't have much taste to it. For the Mac and Cheese, I don't think it was too awesome.  I actually liked the pear salad out of all the entrees which is pretty bad because you can't really cook much for the salad.

The wait staff was really polite and accommodating; and very friendly.

The food wasn't great enough for me to trek over here from Boston. It was good but wasn't great. It was more of a eyy feeling..Unless your in the area, its a convenient nice restaurant to go to with work buddies but I prefer to stay in Boston.

Before I get into the actual restaurant, I really need to express just how bad their website is.  It's miserable.  Like, -7 stars.  Max and Dylans might have the worst website intro in the history of the restaurant industry.  Looking for the menu, I checked the site prior to my first trip there, and oh my god, that music.  It's like if Fine Young Cannibals had a retarded lovechild with the theme from "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly."

If you haven't checked out the website and are into punishing yourself, go watch the Flash intro, especially if you run your own restaurant and want a good example of the worst possible first impression you could give to prospective diners.  FUN.  PROVOCATIVE.  HIP.  RUN SCREAMING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant itself.  I went at 7pm on a Wednesday and had no problem getting a table, even though the bar was totally packed.  The calimari appetizer was solid and nicely dressed with banana peppers (easy points).  The tuna burger tasted great, although the stringy ginger topping was somewhat difficult to chomp through (it's never good when your burger toppings come sliding out whole when you take a bite).  My friend had the kobe sliders, which were also very good; she described the portion size as "perfect" (as a guy, I'd have been left feeling less-than-satisfied, since the sliders apparently don't come with sides).

Service was prompt, courteous, and friendly.  Despite being in the midst of the after-work scene, they didn't pressure us to order a bunch of drinks, which is always great in my book.  "A-OK" sums up my feelings pretty well.  But seriously.  The website needs to be taken out back and shot.

I've always had a good time at Max And Dylans. It has become a go-to for me.

Love the edamame for a starter followed by the ahi tuna salad. VERY good -  however, the menu limits a lot of 'light' options.

always have great waiters - great drinks - overall is a great place around the corner from my place!

This place is bad, so bad. The food portions are ridiculously small, i ordered the fish and chips, the waitress brought me a plate with literally 15 fries on it, with 3 small pieces of fish.  The beers on tap are OK, expensive, but OK. The wait staff was surly, and the manager incredibly rude. I would never go back to this place. There have been 4 restaurants in this location over the past 6 years, this establishment is bound to go the way of those others if they don't buck up their ideas.

Save your money and go to the Warren Tavern in Charlestown, if you want friendly pubfare with a smile.

Hm this place is just okay.  I've also been their downtown location and it was also just okay.  The C-Town location doesn't have the risque pictures on the walls and it has more of a wholesome neighborhood feel to it.  There are plenty of tv's for watching whatever game happens to be on.  I've had their homemade potato chips which are pretty good (thought they may no longer be on the menu...).  Flatbreads are decent and good for sharing.  One time I had the Ranch Chicken Sandwich which I liked, but I thought their Ranch dressing was a bit heavy on the dill.  Service has been fine.  Drinks seem really over-priced (think I've only ever gotten beer there).  They also have a room for private parties which I've noticed when I'm walking across the bridge to the North End.

I have been here a couple times and had a great experience each time.  The food is really good (especially the buffalo mac and cheese), the seafood is fresh and the martinis are amazing.  The drinks are a bit expensive, but at least they are strong.  The waiters are really nice and helpful also.  This will definitely be a go to place for me!

I live in Charlestown and have been to Max and Dylans a couple times.  Amy the manager is the best!   We have had a couple (funny) mistakes made with our meal (the cook forgot to add the lobster to one of the dishes) and they rectified the situation immediately.  I think the food is good but the service is top notch.  Keep up the good work M&D's :)

They've reduced their menu items and increased their prices. It's still a decent place to go for business lunch for me, but there is really no longer any reason to go to this spot over Ironside.

Strolling by visiting the Tall Ships in the Navy Yard, you are pretty strapped for options around this area. This place sits on the corner right before the Navy Yard and right over the bridge and is a pretty nice place inside. The staff is super friendly and the menu boasts some pretty interesting selections. I had a delicious lobster roll with a side of homemade potato chips. It was juicy and tender and hit the spot for lunch. My wife had a burger which looked not as delicious and she said it was not so good, over done but the side of fries made up for it. You will find some creative seafood selections and some grill type items. The prices are moderate for this area and not too bad. The service is fast and we were in and out quick. In all not a bad spot but I have to say I don't think I would do dinner here. Olives is right down the road and although more expensive, a better treat!

Went here once, I was hoping it would be a new addition to the limited list of restaurant options in Charlestown. Think again. I won't be going back anytime soon.

When reading the descriptions in the menu I was inspired that the entree selection may be similar to 'Olives' (about 200 yards away) I found out Max and Dylan's focus is not the entree but rather Mac&Cheese and Sliders. When I received my meal I was greatly disappointed. Cold, salty and my rice was crunchy...( I had the haddock) I won't be going back. Will stick to the Navy Yard Bistro down the street.

I don't usually post reviews on restaurants but was so annoyed by our experience yesterday that I feel compelled to share my experience..

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday. When we sat down, they asked what we wanted to drink. My husband ordered a martini and I asked for a water. I was informed they were "not serving tap water" and that I could have a bottled water for $2. I said fine and the waitress left with our order. When she came back, I asked her what the deal was with water - did they not have tap water? How were they cooking if they didn't have water? She informed me they did have water but they didn't serve it... We should have left then, but we didn't...

We proceeded to have a nice lunch. On our way out, I decided to speak to the manager. I asked why they weren't serving tap water. He informed me that people sometimes come in and just drink water. I told him that I could understand that being a problem, but as a customer who just spent $50 in his establishment by ordering both food and other beverages, I found it disappointing that I could not get a glass of water. He said that was their policy... I informed him that I found that in bad taste and would likely not be back because of it. He shrugged his shoulders, reiterated it was their policy and pretty much didn't care...

Whereas I have always been one to want to support local businesses, I was so disappointed by this experience that I felt the need to share. It obviously has nothing to do with the cost of the bottled water, just the principle. I won't be going back to Max and Dylans and thought others should know that if they go, this is likely the treatment they will also be afforded.

First of all - what's with the website music? Talk about a turnoff..

Interesting menu, but I don't really understand the concept here. Rather than a 'theme' of foods its just a bunch of unrelated items.

The beer selection for a "cool" restaurant - terrible. Typical selection of weak beers you'll find in any common bar in Boston. The wine list is also very unimpressive. And seeing a 'menu section' for 'mojitos' is always a bummer. There is ONE type of mojito, and these other flavored things are  abominations.

Food sampled: steak and cheese spring rolls, baked goat cheese, kobe meatball sliders, hot dog mac n cheese, tenderloin flatbread, duck flatbread.

The spring rolls were greasier than greasy, but had some nice flavor. Meatball sliders - served on brioche which was nice, and were tender meatballs. Kobe beef? Maybe, but grinding up Kobe beef is not exactly the intention of that cow. The baked goat cheese was served with some tomato sauce and toasts. The sauce was weak, the cheese was bland, and the toasts were clearly not a decent bread. Soggy and flavorless (come on, add some butter or olive oil if you are going to use crappy bread!).

The duck "flatbread" with gouda.. was surprisingly boring. The dough is uninspired and soft. Hard to pick up any flavor on the duck or 'gouda' if that is even what the cheese was - looks like they rely on the compote to give flavor.

The tenderloin flatbread was leaps better than the duck one, however, the boring dough still hurts the potentially decent dish.

The mac and cheese - for the price? Silly. Decent cheesy sauce on noodles with a few additions (here, Pearl hot dogs). Not exciting and hard to believe more than a couple dollars of ingredients went into the dish.

I hate to judge a restaurant by its beer selection and website music - but in this case I was dead on.

I went to Max and Dylan's with my boyfriend and 3 friends, we sat outside and people watched.  My boyfriend and I split 2 appetizers and they were good.  Drinks were really pricey for bottom shelf liquor.  I got a martini and realized it was made with Svedka and fruit juices, I was pretty appalled when they charged me $10 for it.  Our waitress was a little shaky on the service but I got the idea that she was new since she asked if we were attending the Bunker Hill Day parade and asked about the area.  She fixed the mistakes she made and we all got what we wanted.  Food was decent priced and pretty tasty, drinks didn't impress me.  I will probably go back though since it's close to where I live.

Just opened a second location (have another restaurant in downtown) in Charlestown.

Went for lunch the other day and ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese and must say I'm a big fan of it. Came out nice and hot, not stringy cheese, baked bread crumbs on the top and plenty of lobster in the pasta.
My lunchmate had the pear salad and added a couple of shrimps to it...loved it.

Drink prices are quite high

Need to check it out for the after-work scene, but based off the lunch, it was very nice

Went here on Friday night during a snow storm.  The host staff was incredibly friendly, offering to take our coats, etc.  Unfortunately, that was pretty much the highlight of the night as the rest was very forgettable.

Before I get to the food, I have one gripe about this space that I had hoped the proprietors would have fixed... the noise level is ridiculous due to the open concept, concrete floors and exposed ceiling.  Ever hear of putting some sound absorbing material in places?

In our party of 4 we had two different mac and cheeses (both were good), a margarita flatbread (tasted nothing like fresh tomatoes and basil and in fact had an out of place spiceness to it) and the meatloaf (ridiculously over spiced with salt).

The waitstaff and/or bar was very slow in delivering our drinks; come on, how long does it take to pour two beers, a glass of wine and open another beer?  Also, we had to ask for water twice before getting any.  Shouldn't this be standard when you first sit down at the table??

All in all, I doubt anyone in our party will go back.  We all were excited when we heard they were opening an affordable restaurant in our neighborhood but in the end were let down with the pedestrian, tastless menu, slow service and loud atmosphere.

This place could have been so much better.

I can't say anything for the food, because I didn't eat here.  I can say that the bar is a good place to get a drink, and the prices aren't outrageous.  And if you're looking for a sarcastic yet funny bartender experience, go to this place, you'll laugh.

Are you Kidding? Such a great location and they put this place in?

The food was alright, but I ordered a classic daiquiri and the waitress said... 'we don't have a blender'. I laughed, thinking she was kidding, and I said no problem a shaker will work. So she came back a few minutes later and declared the head bartender confirmed that what I wanted was vodka, triple sec, and seltzer.... Nice job dude. The girl had her staple cranberry vodka and after one sip decided she was done for the night... it was that bad.

The drinks were ridiculously expensive considering the garbage that was served and the service was really slow....

It is right down the street so i'll probably be back, but it would have been nice to see a place that would have made city square a destination.

Still not happy. I wrote a review and then got contacted by the management.  When this happens, I do what I always do, give a place another shot to see if I was wrong.  Nope, sticking with the original two stars.

Food was not to my liking.  Got sliders, cold.  Served with the entree.  Unless I specify that I want apps and entree together, there is a reason they have different spots on the menu.  Got the m&c this time, wasn't a fan.

With my server, I felt like I was inconveniencing him by just existing.  Noise from others tables still bothers me at this spot.  It's not the other peopel so much as the design.  The noise from other tables is a real big turn off.

Do as you must, I'm all set on this spot.

Living in Charlestown, I had such high hopes for this place given the more reasonable pricing and good selection of menu items. When it first opened, the food was decent. Out of the 5 times I've been, they just can't seem to get the service right. I'm either rushed, or the wait staff won't come to our table the first 15 minutes we are seated. The quality of the food has also gotten worse. Do not order the lobster roll! The other night's was the worst I have ever had. Watered down and no flavor. If you aren't going to make it with fresh lobster, do not offer it! I'll keep going in hopes they turn it around. Sliders are solid and are usually good.

We had a Mac and cheese with prociutto and truffle which was to die for! Amazing! The BBQ pork slider was also excellent. Great comfort food, beautifully presented with good service. Desert was not as impresive, but I did have a nice martini.

This is the restaurant Charlestown needed! Casual attire, excellent food and drink, lovely decor. We'll be back

Just had a business lunch here.  I had the Tuna Burger.  It was not a winner.  The Burger tasted fishy, the seaweed on top was chewy and the sauce was absurdly salty...and I am a man who loves my salt.  But this, this was WAY too salty.  My companion had the chowder which was pretty good.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend or return

went to the one on West St on Friday..much better experience, the bartender made the best martini's and we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip w/tortilla's....who would have thought - yummmmm! 4 stars at least for the CEO Martini, dirty. with goat cheese stuffed olives!!! yummmmmmmm! It gets busy before the theatre shows, then clears out again....highly recommended if you work in the financial district.
