Maverick's is a great fast food chain that specializes almost exclusively in roast beef.  The roast beef is quite good and you can get it in sandwich form or they can gussy it up a little for you and pretend it's an italian beef sandwich (it isn't exactly Chicago style) but the meat is good and the horseradish sauce and yes, even plain horseradish are there!  That, for me, is what puts it into the great category!  I love their horseradish sauce, they do it just right!

I am told over and over again that there once was a time when Arby's was actually a good fast food chain.  That is hard to imagine now that they're using soylent green level meat and having 5 for 5 deals every day.  I am told that Maverick's is something like what Arby's used to be.  People slice the beef before your eyes, and it is a chunk of real meat rather than a hot dog-esque pastiche of scraps from the rendering plant floor.

The only real problem with this is that it is not cheap.  By fast food standards, you kinda pay through the nose... but hey, it is still more 'worth it' than Arby's!

I've been here twice and seriously don't understand the hype. I thought the roast beef was kind of dry both times, and both times the fries were cold. Want to like it, cuz it's not a chain, but I don't.

Maverick's makes Arby's it's bitch. This place is a fantastic little hole in the wall in the Roseville area. It's in a strip mall right next door to the diarrhea shop (Ol' Mexico).

The roast beef is cut fresh and piled high. For those of you communists who don't like beef, there are also some chicken options along with a few other sandwiches. The condiment bar is also quality and you can pile sweet pickles and sport peppers on your sandwich to your hearts content.

That's all I have to say about this place.

We stopped at Mavericks on our way home from Como Zoo. The casual atmosphere (casual without being "chain") was perfect for my tired family (the three-year-old wasn't tired, he ran laps around the long table we adopted). The food was good, although I thought my turkey sandwich was a bit overpriced for what was basically a deli-meat sandwich. The french fries were great, though, and made me very happy.

This is a no nonsense place. As soon as you walk in you're at the counter. Fries are cooked to order, so the person at the fryalator  asks if anyone is ordering fries, so they can get them started. I love the roast beef sandwich, I've yet to add sauce to it.It's a good 2 hander. A well stocked condiment bar, next to the soda machine. The coleslaw doesn't move me. I don't need anything else anyway. I always come alone, and get the feeling I should be bringing 10 other people with me. There's 1 or 2 continuous tables in the center, smaller ones are on the outside. These guys think of everything. They have tennis ball type of things on the chair legs to protect the floor. But they don't roll around, though it might be fun. Brett is usually there and greets you. If you have any old Maverick's memoribilia, donate it here, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

This place is a gem. I hadn't been here in a number of years till just recently, and they've upgraded. It went from a hole in the wall to a well apportioned little restaurant. Still, the food has always been the main draw.

Roast beef to die for, pulled pork, french dips, you name it, it's all good here. I love the barbecue beef the best, so tasty. Fries are quite good too. This is probably the best place with roast beef sandwiches in the Twin Cities, it's that good.

So, so, so good.  I think I've only ever got the roast beef here.  But after you've tasted it you realize that you don't ever need to branch out from it because it's sooo good.  I used to work by this place so I would eat there all the time.  I liked to get a roast beef and then put potato chips on it, then dip it in BBQ sauce.  Ok, I'm trashy--but try it sometime.  I don't really like the french fries here, though.  Or maybe its just that I'm so excited for the sandwich that I don't want to wait for them to make my fries (they make them fresh when you order them) so I just settle for chips.  If you aren't satistied after all of that delicious food, you can just walk across the parking lot to the DQ for an ice cream cone.

Brett Hazlett runs this fine establishment. We often drive from Apple Valley where we live, to Lexington and Larpenteur Ave. in St. Paul's east side (Actually sits in Roseville proper I think/just barely) It's near the Dairy Queen.

It is WELL worth the drive if you are a roast beef sandwich freak as we are. These are very close in quality, to what Arby's sold originally before they started selling swill! (Back when they cooked the roasts right in the lobby in a glass roaster case oven...those were to die for)

These are lean roast beef sandwiches in fine quality form. They have good fries too! This is one of those little gems hidden in a strip mall no less. NON FRANCHISE! You'll know this as soon as you take a bite!

It's a walk-in/order/pickup/eat place. Real straightforward! Brett ALWAYS has a good staff eager to serve you and help in any way they can! When we met, he was surprised we would drive from Apple Valley JUST to eat at his place. We do it regularly...the sandwiches are THAT good! Brett is a real nice guy and has worked extremely hard to establish and improve this place. He deserves your business!
His improvements to his place (which you'll also like) didn't come from Corporate pockets! But from his small business proceeds!

That alone is worth supporting!

Please give him a shot..You'll be glad!

Try it, you'll NOT regret it! It's THE ONE place, I violate my own policy of NOT shopping within Roseville City Limits, because of their crooked Police Dept.

(Which I'll NOT support businesses who support them)('nuff said)

Dan
