This is a lazy review; after all...I'm in Hawaii.
I will add on more after a few days.
I'm used to Oahu and Maui, so I feel something is missing here, on the Big Island. I have not been to Kauai either, but I get the feeling that the Big Island is similar. The hotel here now in July is deserted ( I'm here for business)...I think it is very off season right now.
I recommend this hotel for honeymooners; people who enjoy each others company and people who want to enjoy the serenity. The hotel has a private beach, and a lagoon which is shallow and has almost no waves.
The hotel lobby, rooms, and the grounds with waterfalls and fish ponds are all breathtaking. A mix of greens from the palm trees, black from the volcano rocks, and the blue ocean are an amazing combination.
Unfortunately, the hotel restaurants are not great.
Having spent my infancy in Honolulu, I miss the chaos...( and the shopping). Totally calm and almost boring, unless you are truly stressed out from the city. Or on a romantic vacation. or you really want to immerse yourself into scuba diving, hiking up to active volcanoes, biking etc. I tried to book a surf lesson and was told that's offered only in the winter months.
If you want to experience unspoiled nature, you still have a few more years on the Big Island. Tiffany's, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, etc are opening so it won't be long before this place gets mobbed by Japanese tourists and become another Waikiki or Maui.
Uh, no offense...I'm Japanese!

4.5 stars for this fabulous hotel..
It was luxurious, and because I got a discount through my work, I picked to stay here. About 20 miles from the Kona airport at the Big Island of HI, the road didn't really provide a good view. The landscape was full or rocks, thanks to the active volcanoes, but once you go into the resort, the view is amazing!
The hotel was pretty much open, and in the lobby were ponds and plants and trees. I don't know what they would do during storms, but our stay was wonderful because the breeze from outside would go in and out.
The hotel was older, nonetheless, but you could still tell it was a four star spot. I fell in love with the sheets....I've decided to invest in however -many-thousandth-thread-count it was!! The only other qualm I had was due to the recent earthquake, there were some cracks on a wall and some rooms didn't have a TV (of course, I had one after much begging).
I also loved how the beach was right there---I loved going out for night walks and swimming/lounging/snorkeling in the hot, afternoon sun!! I'd definitely come back to this awesome place!!!
