I was walking past what used to be Caffe Appassionato on Monday morning, and noticed a 'Grand Opening' sign next to the window. Apparently it had shut down over the weekend, to be replaced by this place.
Maui Wowi is a Hawaiian-themed coffee shop chain. What makes Hawaiian-themed coffee different from coffee-themed coffee? Not much, as it turns out. Their website mentions some special Kona blend they use, but the drip coffee I tried could have come from Tully's, as far as my taste buds could tell. Not objectionable, but there are better options in the area.
They seem to specialize in smoothies and specialty drinks. They also have some breakfastey foods -- bagels and such. The menu is available on their website; there are more options than you'd find at a typical coffee shop.
