Wow, old school kitsch, mod charm, and a great breakfast?
Yes yes!

We needed a place to stay Christmas Eve, and this was the cheapest and closest hotel near the Maui airport. I thought it'd be a skeevy dive.

But instead, we struck gold! Deluxe room for $98! In the middle of the holiday madness with no reservation! Whoo-hoo!

The joint feels danky, you can almost feel the ghost of illicit salarymen and their mistresses getting away from the mainland for a weekend of mai tais, tiki-styling lounging, and adultery. Oh my.

Mod, bachelor-pad furniture, oceanfront views, and a killer restaurant on the premises that does old-school Hawaiian diner favorites like pancakes with bananas and coconut syrup? Delicious!

Definitely, if you want to experience old school, early statehood Maui as opposed to the strip-mall, resort-laden colonial conquest fantasy it is today, definitely check out the Maui Seaside. You can always go back to your golf-course hotel later for twice the price.

I did not stay here, I only had breakfast at the restaurant here so my review is based soley on that.

The breakfast was delicious and the view was amazing.  What a pretty beach!  My husband has the loco moco and loved it and the bacon was amazing (although a little pricey for 3 slices).

Wonderful atmosphere, give it a try!

It should actually read Maui Ass-side Hotel.

If you ever been to any part of Hawaii you may have caught on to what I call "the rub". The rub with Hawaiian hotel accomodations is for the most part they are ALL on a beach, or very near a beach. And then they feel fine justifying the outrageous prices they charge. One could afford a hotel stay in Hawaii if it were more located in the armpit of the particular island you are visiting, I suppose. Case in point: the Maui Seaside Hotel.

To start with: it's not seaside, it's harbor-side and it's gross. The beach is black, and the sand is studded with various garbage ranging from soda cans to pen caps, and cigarette butts to grocery bags. I've stayed in better places in Mexico. The rooms are uninspiring and for the price I should've felt like I was in Hawaii even in the god damn room.

Second, our room went un-serviced for 3 days. 3 DAYS! And when you're in sand and salt water, or just hiking and driving around clean fucking sheets and towels would be nice. We saw maids, and they saw us, but ignored our room. We asked them pointedly to please service our room and they didn't. The next day we didn't ask, we insisted.

Third, only good thing about this place is the location. It is conveniently situated inbetween Wailuku and Kahului Airport, and getting anywhere from there is easy.

Still not worth $99 a night.

The Maui Seaside is an old stand-by for Hawaii residents visiting the island of Maui.  I stayed there twenty-seven years ago while on an elementary school trip and again this past week.  It hasn't changed much.

The beds are comfy and clean; the bathrooms spartan but clean.  The TV works fine.  My room came with a counter-top fridge and microwave oven, plus two double beds and a single (nice when you're a guy traveling with two other guys).  The air conditioner was a bit too small for the size of room we were in, but it was adequate.

In fact, "adequate" is the perfect word to describe the Seaside.  You won't be too tempted to stay in all day, but you won't be miserable when you're in.

The hotel has a small pool, popular with kids and sunbathers.  The sunbathers were popular with me, as my room had a nice view of the pool area.  The "seaside" part of the name means the hotel is on a beach, but it's not the kind of beach Hawaii is famous for; this one is a bit on the dingy side, as it fronts a harbor.  However, it seemed perfectly swimmable, not to mention peaceful for long sits or walks.

Located in Kahului, the Seaside is close to just about everything you could need, except touristy locales.  There are several malls nearby, not to mention restaurants, convenience stores, fast-food joints, and all the things that make the island's largest town hum.  It is a five-minute drive from Maui's Kahului Airport.

There is cable but no WiFi; there is a continental breakfast (doughnuts, muffins, pineapple juice, and coffee both mornings I was there) but no restaurant.  The service is friendly and fast.

We paid for the room as part of a package with an online service (air-room-car), so I can't comment on the price, but I'll say that the tour groups that came and went during our stay were composed entirely of seniors from the continental US.

You won't feel pampered as a guest of the Maui Seaside, but neither will you feel neglected or especially poor.  Perfect for when "good enough" is good enough.

Clean and comfortable. Basically, a place to crash and take showers. If you're travelling on a budget, this place serves its purpose.

Not bad for what you pay for!

We only stayed here for one nite! It did it's job. Gave me a bed, fridge, clean bathroom (except for the small ass towel), tv and the AC (which like Scrivene r. said not big enough for the room). The AC only cooled the section part where the fridge was and kind of the bed next to it. You have to turn on the celing fan to get cool in the room. If you don't have the celing fan then you will feel the sticky, moist in the room and on your body so turn on that fan!!!
We had the first floor which was good for us since we have a baby. Everything was cool and clean. Nice view of the ocean. Not the beach were you can swim or relax more for fishing. But it's a nice view, can't beat it!
The only BIG HUGE problem is the parking!!! If the hotel is packed then your ass out with parking!! You have to park your car 1 1/2 blocks away from the hotel. They have a section where you can park your car near a car dealer/park! Is that safe or what.. NOT!! So you better get insurance for your car!! (nothing happned but still)
They have a cute restaurant there in the hotel. But the price is freakin expensive so we didn't eat there. We walked to a place called "MAUI EATS" I love it so much!! (check out my review on it) We eat there for dinner and breakfast. Not so far to walk. Closer than the parking lot for your car.
The other suckie part is you can not DRINK ON PREMISES!! No parties! So i guess this place is for old folks and kids!! If you drink then you will be kicked out! They do have nice Chairs you can seat on in front of your room where you can smoke or drink water (he! he! he!). But only the first floor.
They have a nice mid size swimming pool! The pool makes the hotel. I think. But to each is own! It's small but it does have chair and bed benches.
So anyways if your staying for a couple of days in Maui to go to your resort. I'd say you can stay here for a low price. It does it's job, there are a lot of places to buy your stuff around. Long's, BK burger, Mickey D's, and 2 or more local style food places (tasty crust, Home Maid Dairy and more). Costco, Big K and Walmart is only a mile or 2 away. Even a clinic Kaiser Permanente is there also.

So yeah stay there for a couple of days but not a week!!
