I was hesitant to write a review of this hotel, because I love this place so much I didn't want the "secret" to get out...but, I will review it anyway, since I believe it deserves it.  First, I should say that as far as hotels in Maui goes, this hotel is an awesome deal.

Yes, this hotel is small. Yes, the rooms are small. But, you're in Maui, you're not going to be in your room doing more than sleeping and showering anyway. This is also one of the few hotels that is ON the beach in Kihei, which is a fantastic location, not too crowded. (though most of the rooms don't really face the beach). When you're on the beach here it's easy to feel like a local, not just some tourist crammed into some expensive resort. You get the real aloha that is Maui. Most of the properties around this hotel are condos/timeshares and apartments so it's easier to feel like you're getting a more authentic experience than if you were staying at a resort.

Not sure about the restaurant behind the hotel, because we just grabbed picnic-y type stuff and beers from a store across the street  and hung out on the beach all day.

We used to live on Oahu, and I have stayed at this hotel on Maui twice, and the next time I go back, I'll be staying there again.
Aloha indded!

Maybe your best option on Maui for under $200.  The hotel is right on the water but (as mentioned before) but the rooms do not have views.  Nevertheless, you are only steps from the beach and you should be outdoors soaking it up anyway.

The beds are comfy even though the rooms are small.  It's one of those places too - where there is a door between rooms so that if you have a family or a large group, you can open them up.  Could be good...

On the other hand, at 6am, sometimes your neighbor thinks they're trying to open their bathroom - but they're banging against that middle door - and trying really hard to get into your room.

The staff is uber-friendly.  Even when they call and tell you that you need to stop puffing the pakalolo in you room (which you weren't) - they're really nice about it.  Me gusta this place.

My husband and I stayed here during the 1st half of our honeymoon. We were definitely on a budget and our first choice fell through after we had to cancel our reservation and change dates. Since it was very last minute, I went to http://hotels.com and booked this hotel at a rate of $100/night.

Our room was by the lobby so I was able to get on the wifi without actually having to go to the lobby. The room's were small, REALLY small, with an even smaller bathroom, but we basically went there to shower and sleep--the rest of the time, we were outside enjoying the island which was AMAZING.

There is a beach right behind the hotel which had a lot of neat coral to snorkel and explore on your own--I was out there everyday!

I think the only downfall is that we were in Kihei and all of our booked activities and excursions were all in Lahaina or in that area so we always had to drive. But, we did do the bike ride down Haleakala and they picked us up at the hotel.

Got a room for a few nights online for $99 per night.  Clean cozy rooms (OK, really small rooms!).  But who cares, it's Maui!  If you are sitting in your room, then you sir are a dorkopotomous.  A mile or so to Wailea, a 10 minute drive to Big Beach (and Little Beach for plenty of nude fun in the sun if you're so inclined).  The expensive restaurant that shares the parking lot is nice but nothing special.  The Coast Hotel next door has an outdoor sushi bar that actually has better than expected food...try it!

The location in Kihei was great and the staff was friendly, but the actual accommodations were lacking.  Noise usually doesn't bother me, but our room was next to the restaurant next door and privacy was not an option.  People dining outside could see us go into our room.  I guess we didn't get the best location in the hotel, which is fine.  However, our toilet started leaking, and the staff said they fixed the issue even though it continued the rest of our stay.  The rooms were small but decent.  The beds were comfortable.  Sure the price is cheap, but I've learned to bid on my hotels with Priceline and get five star resorts for the same price.  I loved the beach next to the hotel, but I would never stay here again.

Best kept secret on Maui, but there's a catch. They managed to build an oceanside hotel without a view of the ocean! However at $169 a night it's cheap and clean. The beds are only queen size... because the room is only a little larger than a king size bed. The bathroom is dinky! $169 a night! All is forgiven. The beds and pillows are sponsored by Therapedic. Note: the advertised free WiFi is only available in the lobby. However, the lobby is slightly larger than a king sized bed. Oh, well. The bottom line... this is a great place to crash at the end of a long day. You shouldn't be indoors on Maui anyway.

This hotel is probably the most affordable option in Maui, but don't expect any frills.  The beds are comfortable, you're steps away from the ocean, & the staff is fabulous & will never lead you astray.  Since you're spending the majority of your time by the ocean anyway, it was a great option for us.  The only downside was the tiny bathroom.
