They always say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Unfortunately, when the lemon life gave you happens to be a car, you can't make lemonade. For one thing, motor oil doesn't mix with sugar, and there's way too much metal for my liking.
Anyway, I was driving my lemon of a car to Midway Airport when the temperature gauge shot up and my engine failed. I was able to coax the beast into a parking space, where it remained for three days. Why? Because every tow truck driver I called didn't have a truck that could fit into the low clearance of the Midway parking garage.
Finally I happened upon Matthews Towing, and the fellow who answered the phone promised he had a truck that could fit into the garage, asked me what time I needed him to be there, and where I was going. I made the arrangements and pensively waited for the appointed time.
Even though it was rush hour on a Friday, it was raining and the airport was a mess, he arrived precisely on time, hitched my car up without a problem, and took it exactly where I wanted it to go. He did it efficiently and for the price he quoted, and even gave me a ride to the El station after we dropped off the car.
I can't say I have any complaints whatsoever about them. They were friendly and efficient. The next time I need a tow, I'll definitely be calling Matthews Towing.
Great Service. My car wouldn't start and I didn't know what the problem was (lights on, nobody home) so I wanted it towed to a service station. This guy was friendly, fast, and knew what he was doing. I got a jump start for $65 inside of an hour (turns out I didn't need the repairs I'd been told I needed), some advice on buying a new battery, and very friendly service. The whole ordeal was so much less painful than I thought it would be. Thank you!
I've used Matthews 3 times now. The first time, which won my loyalty, is when my car died at Trader Joes. The first thing they asked me is if I was safe! Then we worked out a deal where I would leave the keys in the car under the floor mat so he could come and tow it to my mechanic (after hours!) so I wouldn't have to wait around for him. It was all his suggestion! Here I was expecting my ice cream to melt while I waited for a tow truck.
The second time was when I came outside to a flat tire on my car. They sent over a wrecker in record time, and he swapped it out in no time flat. It was, quite literally, the coldest night of that winter. He told me to wait in the cab of the truck so I wouldn't have to suffer the cold. When he was done (and after he drove me to the nearest ATM so I could pay him because I didn't have any cash on me and he didn't have a card reader) he suggested a couple places to get my tire fixed and stressed that I be careful driving on the donut.
The 3rd time was the absolute best (how can I be saying this about a towing company- haha!). I woke up to another flat tire and had to borrow my roommate's car to get to work. On my way home, I called Matthews and they said that they would be there soon. I was less than 10 blocks from my house when I made the call. I got home, parked the car, and when I got out the wrecker was coming down the street!!! They are *lightning* quick! The guy gets out of the truck and has his little boy with him who is about 9 or 10.. The kid wants to be just like dad so *he* starts changing my tire! It was priceless. Dad watched over him, tightening bolts and helping with the heavy stuff while son did everything else!
So, yeah. Matthews is AWESOME!!
I've called MTC on several occasions, once because my car broke down in Indiana, and once when it broke down in the city. Both times he calmed me down, and came to get my car - like a knight in shining armor. He was super quick, and super duper professional. He also made me laugh because situations like these totally freak me out and upset me. His prices were less than I expected, and I even got a student discount because well, I'm a student! I would definately call him next time my car craps out, and would refer him to everyone I know!
Tonight , I found myself in a major panic! I was stuck inside Target's parking lot with a dead car. Called up Matthews towing and he told me he would be there in 30 minutes...like clockwork there he was!
I have waited a long time for other tow services, so trust me when I say...I was skeptical! But I was happily surprised at not only the accuracy of time, but also the friendly service I received.
Additionally, my mechanic's shop was closed...so he towed my truck there and found super close parking near the shop...which in the area is no easy task! He called me and kept me in the loop throughout the whole process.
I felt like I was dealing with an old friend rather than a cold customer relationship!
I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MATTHEWS TOWING SERVICE! Superior service and friendliness. Great rates too!
I love yelp because it holds businesses accountable to their customers. And I feel compelled to update my initial review of Matthew's towing after receiving a message from the alleged business owner, Matthew (from a profile with the name "samantha f." - interesting...).
Anyways, he basically gave me the I'm-sorry-I-never-got-your-voicemail-so-please-rem ove-your-bad-review-I'm-just-a-simple-business-own er-trying-to-make-it-in-the-world BS. Yeah, actually wanted me to remove my bad review because although I called and left messages more than once on more than one occasion and THEY never called back or showed up, I should help them out by taking my review down. Rightttttt.
Also, I noticed that a lot of the other reviewers on here have very few reviews posted - like, one to three. Which looks even sketchier to me, like Matthew and Co. are making profiles just to review their own business. I'm not making any accusations - just an observation.
Oh P.S. this is the same company as Pan-Am. If that means anything to you, fellow yelpers.

I called 3 towing companies and Mathews towing offered me the lowest price!, which was 100 bucks , I think its probably the best towing company i've dealed with so far in chicago. Last time i used another company and their truck and service was pretty ghetto compared to matthews towing. Mathews came to tow quick with a nice new truck, most companies can take 1 or 2 hours.and he knows what hes doing, the driver was really good he even gave me some mechanical advice which was very nice..having to be towed is never fun, but a company that can offer a better price and service then most other companies i'll give them props.
Yeah. He came and jumped my car- took me to a body shop- drove me home all for $75. He was nice made me feel safe and tried to explain everything to me. Just a good guy trying to help and make a buck. Use him and tip him well.

It sucks getting towed, but if you have to get towed you should get it with this guy. He was so, so very nice, not at all bitter...or surly. Timely. Efficient. Excellent communicator.
Matthew, you are a great businessman! I will keep this card in my wallet for another unfortunate day.
Thank God for Matthew's Towing! I've used them two times and their service is excellent. The last time my car stalled in a downtown parking garage. Matthew's Towing came is less than an hour with their low clearance truck that can get into the parking garages (not all of them can...just another reason to use Matthew's). I would never use another towing company...why risk getting ripped off or having your car damaged!
I had a great experience with Matthew's towing. They were able to come right away and get my car to take it to the shop. I believe the tow bill was $75, which I found very reasonable. They were polite on the phone. No complaints on a job well done.
My girlfriend blew a tire in snowy weather, late at night. I couldn't get the tire off to put the spare on for the life of me. Matthew came to our rescue quickly and was extremely professional. He's very friendly and thorough. Put his number in your phone in case you need it. This is the guy you want helping you out of a jam!
I looked up a towing service on Yelp and I found this guy. He was really awesome about towing me all the way out to Schaumburg and he blew away all the quotes I got. He showed up within 5 minutes of when he said he would all the way out by O'Hare. He dropped the car off for me at the dealership and everything was handled with the utmost care. This guy is a class act - definitely recommend!
My car broke down on LSD during rush hour on the hottest day of the year so far (turned out to be a bad battery). Matthews was referred to me by the towing company used by Ashland Tire & Auto - Matthews handles some of their off-hours towing. He showed up within about 30 minutes of my phone call, as promised during our conversation. Did a good job with the tow, was easy to talk to on our ride to the shop, and even gave me a ride home. Overall, it was a good experience, given the frustrating circumstances. My only "complaint" was that he charged me $80 for the tow, which, he claimed was a deal from his normal $125 charge. Based on the other reviews I've read, the pricing seems pretty arbitrary - my only complaint. However, Matthews is now programmed in my phone book, in case I need another tow. I'd use him again.
so, a while ago i went to Transit (the club, dont ask me why) with a few friends of mine. its on lake st. under the train tracks. rather than getting valet we found a spot on the street. there was a sketchy guy hanging around who asked us if we wanted to pay him to watch our car while we were in there. haha! he said "im security, baby." we had a good laugh at him then went inside.
BIG mistake. we came out at about 4am to our car with 3 tires slashed!
no point in calling the cops, so right away i called matthews towing. he came by pretty quicky and examined our car. the problem was that both the back tires were slashed so he couldn't even tow us! wtf. anyway, he referred us to a company with a flatbed tow truck that also took my friends car insurance so that was awesome. we decided to leave the car there til the morning though, because it was already past 4 am, and had to take a cab home.
the night was fun but ended shitty. we were really happy with matthew though. he was cool and made jokes to ease our tension. even though he couldn't help, the reference he gave us was awesome.
the moral to this story is that if some creeper asks for a few bucks to "watch your car", PAY HIM! it's way cheaper and more convenient than a tow truck!
and if you don't pay him, you better save the number to matthews towing in your phone.
Talk about a sincere and honest experience.. These guys are the very best. Don't mess around with other companies. My wife and I were broke down past the tollway on 90E and the dude was there in 20 minutes. We enjoyed good conversation and super professional service. He towed my busted jeep like it was a Mercedes. DANG!
