This skating rink, owned by Northeastern University, is open in the winter months for open skate, usually 3 or 4 days a week, from 12-1:30. It's free! You have to check the web site to see what days they are open, it seems to change depending on lesson, team and game schedules.
Enter on the Gainsborough Street side, by the parking lot. No ID check, I think it's open to the community.
They usually have music playing, soft rock or classic rock radio. There are very few people there, sometimes I have even had the rink to myself for part of the time.
Nothing fancy, no food, no rentals, sometimes they interrupt the music to experiment with the sound system, sometimes they kick you off the ice five minutes early for no reason, but it's free so you get what you pay for, I guess!
A nice change of pace for your lunch break if you work in the area.
Northeastern hockey games with superfan students in attendance? Yep, definitely a fun time to be had, even if you support the opposing team!
