5 reviews for Matiz Salon, Inc
Husband and wife owned and operated. Greg and Molly are some of the nicest people and they've done quite a number on their small salon, nestled in one of Ventura's finer shopping corridors.
Guys - If you've been to every Fantastic Sams and SuperCuts and are still finding your "do" lookin' a little crooked - you should pay Greg a visit at Matiz. He really knows how to personalize your haircut to meet your needs (possibly even get you a date) and when your done, he wont send you out the door with hair in your mouth and everywhere else. A good shampooing after a cut makes all the difference!
Okay so I literally *just* got back from my hair appt! I'm new around here and decided to visit Matiz after reading all the wonderful reviews.
So Charles (or was it Charlie?) was my hairdresser. He is a hot young guy, about 21 years old. While he cut my hair, I fantasized about the things I'd like to do with him..lol..maybe I've been a little too lonely recently!
Anyways-- the salon. It was tricky to find, since they are in a promenade of sorts..So while driving down Main St, you just see their address but nothing about the salon. Parking can be tough-- but I found a free parking area within one block. The salon is further into the promenade, away from the street. It is actually 2 stories tall, with some hair-washing bins upstairs. Beware of those stairs--very thin and tricky!
Charles taught me lots of new tricks and ideas about how to style my hair..which I appreciate. He is very soft-spoken however, which made it difficult to hear him with the blow-dryer on and outside noise. The salon itself is rather small, with lots of seats in a small area. I used the bathroom upon arriving there, and found it very similar to the itsy bitsy bathrooms in an airplace...So if you need to use the bathroom, I would recommend popping by another place before your appointment.
Also-- they have a nice balcony area upstairs, where you can chill while getting hair colored...which is neat for the claustraphobic's out there. :)
My haircut itself is okay-- I'm not thrilled, perhaps next time I'll fork up the $65 to see one of the owners (his fee was $45). If you're new, ask to see this hottie...rawr!
I've been going to Greg since he was at Michael Kelly, and even though I'm too far away for him to be my regular stylist now, my mom and cousin still go to him. He and his staff turn out amazing style and color and the salon itself is so adorable. Greg took me from long to short to long again, from brown to blonde to red to blonde, and even my close friends thought I was a natural blonde because he was so talented with color!
Worth the tricky parking in downtown! Tucked away in a fantastic Spanish Revival courtyard right off Main Street.
Sally has been cutting my hair for two years, I always look fabulous when she finishes blowing out my hair, I wish she would follow me around all day so I could look fab every minute!
