Simply put, LaurA is a hair GOD! I can't say I've ever been happier with a hair cut as I am at this point! I wish I would have found this place sooner.
I've been putting off having my hair cut for almost a year....Bad Trish, I know. I called up the shop around 2 and she was able to accommodate me for a 5:30 appointment. The shop is very modest. The salon has comfy black velvet couches and pictures of James deanish looking models and pin up girls line the walls. The staff here is amazing. So friendly and inviting. I am socially inapt but she made me feel very comfortable and relaxed.
My hair is a nightmare. Super long, wavy/curly and thick. I can't tell you how many times a hairstylist has cringed as soon as I walked in the door or asked me to style my own hair because their arm was tired. But the owner Lauren took a look at the picture I brought in and quickly went to work. She thinned out my hair and gave me exactly what I wanted. This salon is an absolute diamond in the ruff. She cut and styled my hair for $30 dollars WOW I have paid twice that and never had a haircut as amazing as the one i received yesterday. Already getting tons of compliments this place deserves more than 5 stars!
They effed up my hair. Twice! The best the second stylist could tell me was "I can do your eyebrows for free on your next visit?" First of all, if you messed up my hair, why offer me free eyebrows? Shouldn't it be a free cut? And thirdly. why on earth would I come back a third time?!
They get the stink-eye from me.
One of the best haircuts ever! Number 1- they gave me an appointment after the shop had closed which was awesome because nobody was there. Number 2- the stylist LAURA just asked me what I wanted, I told her I wanted an A line cut. She not only washed, cut and styled my hair for $30 but she also gave me styling tips (I have really thick straight hair) as she was doing my hair. I was totally comfortable and I will definitely be coming back :)
Man, I wish I would have discovered this place sooner. a friend told me about it a couple of years ago. She said "thats were all the hipsters in south gate cut their hair." Most hipsters (girls anyway) have fabulous hair, so I should have listened to her then. I never went because at the time I thought $20 for a haircut was too much. I now know its not.
I found a great hair place in Downey (Avant Garde). But i didnt feel like paying $45 for a haircut again...and I didnt feel like settling down with one salon yet. Soo since I'm always at Tierra Mia cafe, I decided to call this place up today. I asked how much it was(they said $25+ for a cut) and I asked if they used razors( you'd be surprised how many salons still dont...especially in SG). They do use razor, and it was a good price, and they could take me then and there so I stopped by.
My styllist was Suzie. She was fantastic. She washed my hair, cut it (layered it), blow dried it, straightened it(styled it), thinned it out, and she cut my bangs (they look greatttt!!!). All this for just $30.
There was a boy hairstylist too. And the owner who wasnt there today. They seem to be popular but it may be because Suzie has only been there for a couple of months. I saw the boy give some guy there a really great haircut. He was also cutting a girls hair when I arrived. Her hair was great too.
I know I said avant garde was my new salon, but this place totally beats it. Not only because the haircuts and care was just as great but because the price is great...and I also like to keep my tax dollars in the City.
...oh, and the outside of this place is not be glamorous...neither is the inside. Its small and cute and comfy and there are posters of Kat Von D and pin up girls on the inside. Cute.
I'm definitely a fan!! Great experience. I called to make an appointment, it's a small shop that shares a parking lot with a pancake house on the east side of Atlantic just south of Firestone. My curly hair did not intimidate Lauren, she listened to what my hair troubles were while she washed my hair and talked about her plan to make my hair more manageable and assured that we'd still be able to keep the features that I liked. Lauren shaped and styled my hair. I got some tips for the upkeep and left feeling very happy, even had an extra pep in my step!!
