Review Highlights
I love coming here. I used their services often as a Math Specialist for Seattle Schools.
Just reading the reviews I am asurprised that someone is upset with their customer service. It is a small store adn can get pretty busy. At times You have to look around for yourself. No one can get your curriculum for you! Although it was my job and it is the job of many Math Coaches to have a lot of curriculum available tohelp teachers.
I still get materials for my young family members here when needed.
My wife and I both call this "the best toy store in the world"!
Honestly, I can't help getting a little angry each time I walk the aisles and realize how many hours and hours I've wasted in Toys R Us looking for ANYTHING that I WANTED to give to somebody's child!
Great store!
I bought my niece some presents here before, she was adorned with delight. Chill out Shannon, there is a big world out there.
Very cool name also. Way to be!
I teach 3rd and 4th grade and I love math. I love teaching math, and I love finding new, innovative ways to get students excited about math. I also love supporting local businesses.
However, the level of service I've received here has been atrocious. Every time I have come in (on different days and at different times, so I know it's not always the same employees), staff members either ignore me or spend the entire time talking with each other. When staffers do deign to speak with me, it's almost always in a condescending tone. Where's the love? If I worked there, I'd be nerding out the entire time, loving to introduce people to exciting math goodies. Is that too much to expect?
The merchandise is good, but it always seems like it's been on the shelf for an eternity. If I'm going to pay full price for a product, I don't want the packaging to be completely faded or the books to be nicked/dogeared. If you're looking for obscure math manipulatives that you can't find at your local teacher store, though, chances are they have it.
I live nearby, so I go here if I need something for class the next day. Otherwise, I'm far more tempted to just order online.
Being diagnosed with mathematical dyslexia can leave you out of certain experiences. The joy of balancing a check-book... jokes about Pi.... that sort of thing.
That said, I'm pretty sure math is great?
People seem to build a lot of amazing things with it.
In-fact I'm almost completely positive that math is responsible all of the things I love about civilization?
Why is it then, that when I drove past this store I had the same reaction I have to a gun shop?
I never want to go in and I never want to be around anything inside it.
This realization was quickly followed by the BIG TIME heebeegeebee's!!
UPDATE: I was driving by and felt bad about reviewing this store without going in. I like to face my fears and this was no exception. I went in and WOW! It's actually a fun game and toy store with an educational edge. I bought some 12 sided Rock, Scissors, Paper dice that cracked me up and marked one more fear off my list.
They do need to change the name.
My mum was a Science teacher before she retired, and together we totally geeked out at Math'n'stuff when she visited here. All the time she was exclaiming how she wished there was something like this store in Australia, how she loved it that she could buy this stuff, and whether my brothers' kids were old enough to appreciate them.
They have such a lot of different learning materials, games, toys, books and other mathematics paraphernalia. You could spend weeks rooting around here and discovering tons of stuff that you just need to take home.
The service is spotty sometimes: some of the clerks have personalities, some have had them bypassed. You know how there are some nerdy people who have great senses of humour, and then there are those who *think* they are saying something funny but really aren't? They have both types of sales clerks here.
I love this store. It's great for teachers, gamers, kids, whathaveyou. Lots of great resources for educators, I've gotten some great stuff for teaching English at home and stocked up before going teaching English overseas. They also give discounts to teachers, so have some documentation handy when you go in. I could spend hours at this store, there is just so much to see and browse and play with. Make sure you have lots of free time when you go check it out. Enjoy!

My inner-math-nerd rejoiced when I first visited here. I always stop by while waiting for my to-go order from Snappy Dragon (across the street... A definite must try). The staff here is really friendly, and will let you play in the store to your hearts content!
Being a science geek, I love this store. I can't wait for my daughter to get older so we can play some of the many math and science oriented games this store has to offer. A large selection of educational, but not boring, toys for infants through high-school. Lots of stuff for adults as well. Puzzles, thinking games, card games. Even raw material to make your own games.
They will be moving in the near future, development in Maple Leaf marches on, but they don't know where yet. I hope it doesn't mean they don't re-open.
I walk in and am immediately overwhelmed by the plethora of math stuff. And science stuff. And puzzles, games, Legos, solar system models, magnetic poetry, workbooks, math books... It's stuffed with stuff and it's easy to overlook the education in all the fun. I wander the aisles, each and every one, for over an hour, accumulating stuff in my arms that I have to have for homeschooling my kids, and just for fun. Then I realize that in over an hour no one has spoken to me. I see a staff person putting something on a shelf. She makes eye contact. I smile, wanting to compliment the store. There is no return smile. There is nothing. I go to checkout. Behind the counter there is no smile. No response to friendly chit chat. While this store is chock full of fabulous educational and fun stuff at very reasonable prices, the customer service sucks. The truth is that just about everything here is available online at various places, but I went here because I didn't want to wait (and pay) for shipping and because I like to support independent stores. I will go back again because there are a few more things I'd like to buy and maybe they were having an "off" day. If the atmosphere is just as chilly next time, the stars will go down.
Update 9/20 - very different experience this time with a helpful, friendly, chatty clerk and I walked out with another armload of stuff, including a Rubik's cube, do it yourself mobile of the solar system, math books, and TRIOPOLY! Just like Monopoly only on 3 LEVELS!! And you build cities! Even if you don't want educational stuff, this place has the BEST board games. An entire wall full.
TEACHERS listen up. This is a great place to get learning materials and the staff is very helpful. There is such a huge variety of things I could have hing out for hours on end. There are so many learning interactive items for any age groups. there are tons of games and activities and other items to work on with or with out others. I really like this store and all teachers should know about it.
Amazing concept store that should be advertised in EVERY local school. Fun math everywhere and amazingly helpful (and educated!) staff. What a treat. Check their hours and bring the kids. Really awesome! They support a family math night at our elementary school and once or twice a year they bring the games for purchase. Wowsa!
