Great place for pizza and beer and catching up with old friends!
Make sure you are far, far away from the band, when it starts. You won't be ale to hear yourself think, especially if the band is as bad as they were on the night we went to Mason Jar.
The waitress was very patient with our large group, although she didn't seem to understand the concept of splitting the bill, which greatly irritated my Southern friend, who is used to getting the bill split automatically.
Reasonably priced drinks and good pizza! -

HAD AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE HERE. Went here last December and got drunk. (That constitutes awesome) The bartenders were extremely nice even the female ones which usually doesn't happen and she even bought me 2 shots. They make their drinks strong and affordable.
Now the people that hang tough there aren't so "awesome" All the older men wreak of a cologne that screams "I shouldn't have knocked up Rhonda from Bayonne and shoulda gotten drafted for the Yanks" and the women that dance around drunk like to pretend they star in the movie Hysterical Blindness and try to relive memories that probably weren't made because they are the Rhonda's of Bergen County....
Their food is pretty good too, the Santa Fe chopped chicken salad is pretty tasty.
I would definitely come back here and get wasted again.....Looking forward to it this December. -

I've only been here once, but I enjoyed it and look forward to trying it again.
The last time I had the mussels (in garlic and white wine sauce) and bacon and mushroom pizza (I loved the thin crust)...had to spice it up a little with garlic and crushed red pepper, but it was decent. -

Found myself in Jersey this weekend for a family function. We were need of a place where all of us could find something to eat and watch the game and the mason jar fit the bill. It was a great decision. We sat in the side room where there was plenty of room to relax and a large TV showing the game for our entertainment. Everyone at the table got something different, from BBQ to fajitas, seafood, and pasta, and nobody was disappointed. I had penne with broccoli in an oil and garlic sauce and it was great! We also ended up order quite a few mason jar cocktails and they were all nice and strong! Honestly the whole experience was positive, from the service to the atmosphere and the food and drinks a plenty. It was a heck of a good time in Jersey!

Went here for dinner on the coldest night of January. The appetizer sampler was delicious. The service was great. Great environment, family friendly. Had a great experience and will come back again.

This is another one of those places I've been to that was good years ago. Today it's a place I'll go to to break up the usual routine of dining out to reconfirm my beliefs that this place has fallen by the wayside.
One of my concerns about this place is the price it charges and the quality of the food. They do have some great things on the menu but the prices don't reflect this in a positive light. Some of their dishes are kind of bland.
Pizza there isn't too shabby, it has some fun atmosphere as well too. Definitely a nice place to go to have a drink and pass some time. Don't write this place off completely!! -

Great BBQ just off of route 17.
J-B-que is the way to go for you and your date... Good burnt ends although it was my first time having them so I don't have anything to compare them to. We definitely liked the variety of Ribs, pulled pork and the tips. I had an Arnold Palmer to drink which was cool. -

This is a great go-to place when you can't figure out what you want or can't agree with your dining partner(s) on what type of food to get. This is a huge menu with a strange, broad variety of options. I've always had good food and good service, and have never had to wait for a table since the place is massive.
So why only 3 stars? It's loud, huge, not very cozy... not exactly the greatest place to go for an intimate conversation. I've also never had a great meal here... nothing particularly memorable. -

The food is average, nothing I'd recommend to go out of your way for. The prices are unreasonable though. A "lunch special" for $10 that is just a sandwich? I can go to a deli and get the same quality food for half the price. For a place that prides itself on BBQ, they need to go back to the drawing board and find out how to do it right.

We love the brunch at the Mason Jar. My only issue with our last visit was that it's starting to look worn out and dated...they need a makeover and PLEASE lose the crane games and the video crap in the lobby. This really discounts the restaurant. Otherwise, the food is good and the service is OK.

Mason Jar is a good place. The atmosphere is good, and it's a great place to have a drink and watch some sports. The BBQ is okay - not super if you have high standards for your BBQ, but not bad if you just want something in the BBQ genre.

I have been a customer of the Mason Jar for many years. Done the brunch. Done the pizza. Done the barbecue.
Wife and I were meeting Miss L for dinner and Mason Jar was a convenient spot.
I think this is the first time I was ever there and saw an Octoberfest menu.
We started by ordering a few appetizers. The Konigsberger Klop (spicy meatballs), Ham and sauerkraut balls. A few minutes later our waitress informed us that they were out of the Konigsberger Klop. Uh...6:00 pm on a weeknight!?!??! So, the waitress suggested that the side order of spatzle be brought out as an appetizer instead of as a side dish. Okay.
The spatzle arrived. Never seen any spatzle quite like that. It looked like oatmeal. It tasted like...uh...well....uh....oatmeal?!? God awful. It was immediately returned and taken off of our bill. I don't think anybody in the kitchen has ever eaten, let alone seen, spatzle in their lives.
The ham and sauerkraut balls were excellent. Four perfectly fried balls packed with sauerkraut and small pieces of ham. The only odd thing was that they came served with a side of marinara sauce. Still unsure if it was a mistake. Sauerkraut and marinara sauce aren't really a good combination.
Miss L had some nice looking buffalo wings for dinner. She enjoyed.
My wife was so so with the weiner schnitzel. She has had better at places like the Iron Horse in Westwood or Kirkers Inn in Hawthorne.
My main was Rouladen. First time I have ever had this dish. It was thinly sliced beef filled with mustard, bacon, onions, garlic and pickles braised in a red wine sauce. It was accompanied by black forest home fries and applesauce. This was an excellent dish! It was perfectly cooked and very flavorful.
Dessert was some kind of Reeses ice creamy pie which my wife and Miss L enjoyed. I had the blueberry crisp and it was a disappointment.
Service was fair at best. We were supposed to get a free beer with the Octoberfest entrees but it never appeared. Actually, we forgot about it until after we had left the restaurant. -

Staple in Mahwah for over 30 years! I ate there yesterday and had the pulled pork, frankly it was nothing too special, kind of bland, but what do you expect for an NJ restaurant claiming "real southern BBQ". The restaurant recently changed hands, and since then it has not been the same place.
Do go for the brunch, though! -

Great find in N. NJ. The brisket is pretty tasty, but it lacks the Texas crust, but it still tastes pretty good.
The chips are terrible. Don't get anything with chips. -

I love the burgers here. There are not many places with good burgers now, but this is one of them.

I am harsher on BBQ joints because I am a connoisseur. This place has below average Q that is often dry and lacking that smoke flavor.
The other food is decent and the beer is cold, wait staff is friendly and the decor is nice.
If they didn't serve unmemorable BBQ it would possibly get an additional star. -

What a let down.
I love BBQ so the promise of real BBQ in my backyard sounded too good to be true. Sadly, it was. The BBQ was dry and chewy. It wasn't that tasty at all.
I'll only eat here again if my car is stranded in front of it. Actually even then I may ask the tow truck guy to bring me McDs. -

We go to the Mason Jar on Friday nights (hubby and I). Great bar atmosphere, specialty drinks and top shelf vodkas and tequila. Most definitely many items to choose from on the menu. Thin crust pizza, to burgers (which are great). The appetizers are really good, the nachos or the quesadillas. The drinks are served in a nice deep glass and the bartenders are really friendly. Everything from sliders to the pulled pork is excellent. It's perfect pub fare!

I was a bit perplexed by the mixed ratings, but then again, that is the point of this site! Different strokes for different folks... or something like that.
I have always had a great experience at the Mason Jar. Their BBQ has always been good, and I am a fan of REAL Southern BBQ. Their pulled pork is very good, and the ribs last time were good as well. Tender, flavorful and smoked just right.
The other nice surprise here is the pizza. Each time we go, we get a pizza as an app to split with the table. It is crisp on the bottom, thin and tasty. A perfect coal oven style pie.
As far as service, I have always been happy with the service. In fact, the last time I was with a bigger group. The waitress was great and very attentive. Same goes for the bartender. -

Went here a few times to watch various MNF games. The brisket is quality. I also liked the Oktoberfest menu they had. The bratwurst was very tasty. Service could have been better, but not terrible.

For New Jersey, Mason Jar's attempt at barbecue is fair. If you venture to Mason Jar and possibly get swayed into trying a pizza or some other dish, it will be a huge mistake. They are best known for their pulled pork platter, side of corn bread, and choice of cole slaw etc. with a variety of sauces ranging from hot to vinegar and on. The prices are fair, the noise level outrageous, service is good. This best for a family night. Not a romantic venue.

Not an essential place, but as others have said, adequate if you're in the neighbourhood and just need some animal flesh. Pizza is great, service is almost adequate. They survive thanks to the kindness of strangers and Ramapo College students who are a captive audience. I spent many a night here after classes and after a beer or two, it becomes an even better venue!

This isn't a "Must go".... but the food is desent and the location to Ramapo College is great. If you do go.... don't expect much from the service... but order the brick oven pizza. Their lemonade, however, is delicious! And it's kinda cool how they serve it in little mason jars.... haha..... get it? :)

The Mason Jar is just down the road from Ramapo College, and it's a great place to go with your buddies after a college soccer game or a dance. It's HUGE, with so many rooms, you may get lost while looking for the bathroom. The food isn't bad; I enjoyed a very nice burger there.

I used to go here as a kid and I remember it being quite tasty. Then again, I was about eight. I went last night with my sister and it was incredibly eh. The fish tacos were pretty blah, the service was average and they need to work on cleanliness. When you walk out the front door and there are 422 cigarette butts in the bushes, you know that management is phoning it in.

Dinner tonight was just bad. it took well over an hour to get our food and when we did it was so under cooked we couldn't eat it. Asked the manager to take the burger off the bill (why pay for something that you can't eat). I have never asked for an item to be taken off the bill, but the combo of slow serve and undercooked food left us no choice. Won't go back.
