Mary Jane is a professional, well-organized salon. Their lead colorist, Alex, is a wizard and recently helped me go from blonde to red. The rest of the staff is friendly, professional, and they do great work. Every haircut I've gotten here has yielded "oohs and ahhs" from friends and family. I highly recommend these guys-- they've made me a fan for life!

Why oh why did I ever stray away from this wonderful hair haven? I should be punished!! Oh wait I WAS with the last hack job I received from another salon (that shall remain nameless but you may want to take a gander at my reviews to figure it out).I will never ever ever ever go anywhere else!!
On Saturday afternoon, I indulged myself in a long overdue haircut. Season D. coiffed my thick, unruly lion's mane into a sophisticated/sexy hairstyle. My layers looking ahhhmazing and my hair feels sleeker/healthier.
Take advantage of a free bevie and a neck massage. Please go here if you want excellent service and style.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love experimenting on my own hair, but unfortunately I came across three different colors in just a week, so I needed to be rescued - luckily we know David Langit who's working great deals at Mj's.. So, KC messaged him on facebook (morning) and he immediately responded, which was cool & after a minute or two, we had an appointment by the afternoon, sweet.. And when we got in, which was way early like 25mins. early (we were excited!) the place was cozy, great neighborhood, music-playing a very nice way to relax too.
Going back about my hair, David thought I wanted brighter highlights, which wasn't the case, so he asked what I needed and it took awhile for the whole explanation because I really wanted something specific, that's me... And after 2 mixtures of great color (by David) ... an hour & a half of chatting, I was done! I looked great heading to Sting that evening, night with the ladies.
Can I get my free haircut :) -

I love my cut and I love my color!
Gerardo and David are so nice and I'm so happy with my results.
I bought a Groupon for this place and was pleasantly surprised that it exceeded all of my expectations.
Making an appt was easy. Everyone was very friendly and they were accommodating. The salon was very cute and I knew that my hair was in good hands. Gerardo and David were so nice to talk to and they asked all the right questions to make sure that I got what I wanted. David is excellent with color and this is the best color job I've had.
Major bonus point, the haircut starts with a neck massage! This is my favorite SD salon and I will be back!Listed in: oh you fancy, huh?

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome on so many levels.
I walk into this beautiful and great smelling salon and was offered a glass of wine...umm...awesome. I was asked to change into a smock so I wouldn't get hair all over my shirt (very thoughtful). Once I came out I was giving an AMAZING neck massage. Seriously, I think I freaked the guy out because I was in ecstasy.
I had my hair cut by Seasons (beautiful name) and she is amazing. She listened to me when I talked about my issues with my extremely hair and my normal routine. After discussion and a lot of cutting I ended up with about 8 inches less of hair and an awesome cut. My hair has amazing body and movement. On top of all of that , she took the time to give me some styling tips that were much needed.
This is my new salon. period. -

I really wanted to like this salon because of the other good reviews and the proximity to my house. But I am pretty let down.
Parking is a hassle, but I don't mind paying if I get good service. I was there 10 minutes early for the first appointment and didn't get strted until 20 minutes after my appointment (again the first of the day) so I waited for 30 minutes.
Right off the bat there was the hard sell to buy products. Not just once or twice, but repeatedly during the whole experience. I finally had to say - "look I do not want to buy ANY products." Aside from that the sylist was very harsh on my hair, it hasn't hurt to get my hair done like that sine I was about 5 years old. When it came to what I actually wanted I was ignored. I specifically stated just a bang trim and no new bangs because I do not like the thick look. I left with the thickest bangs I have ever had and they are so short that they are about a third of the way down my forehead. I had explained that I do not have time to style my hair everyday and was told over and over that this look would be great with some product, hairdrying, an iron....etc in otherwords, I was not listened to again.
The person taking care of me was very nice which is why I am not making this one star review, but I also will not be back, and would not recommend this place to anyone else.Comment from Alex C. of Maryjane Salon 10/13/2011

Was here for a Rene Furterer event and the hospitality was great! Meghan was very welcoming, the Rene Furterer rep was friendly, relateable and down to earth. Gerardo the stylist that finished my 'do not only taught me how to "care" for my hair, I learned some tips and tricks about creating curls that last.
I also got to meet other clients which made this place feel "cozy". -

My first experience there was pretty good and got a great haircut. BUT sadly, that stylist left and now I was stuck with whatever stylist that's available. I tried it the second time and I would say the other stylist was ok except for the fact that I felt like he was burning my scalp when he blow dry. ouch.
Then I saw a Groupon deal with them and I decided to go back there one more try with a different stylist. The receptionist refused to let me use the Groupon because I've been there before. Yes, it was an honest mistake that I missed that new customer only part but now I was stuck paying full price plus having a useless Groupon that I paid so I basically paid twice for a haircut with a stylist who once again burned my scalp.
I definitely will not be back.Comment from Alex C. of Maryjane Salon 10/13/2011

First, I need to give Gerardo some credit. He cut my hair EXACTLY how I wanted it. Most stylists are afraid to cut 5 inches off my hair (the reason for this I will never know) . Not Gerardo. Also, he gave me exactly the layers I wanted. He was great to talk to and asked me everything a stylist could about my hair from how I style it to what kind of shampoo I use. Also, he's been cutting hair for like 13 YEARS, so homeboy knows what he's doing.
Now on to the salon itself. It is in the heart of Hillcrest so parking was a bit of a pain, but they're open until 8pm some nights and parking meters stop at 6, so I suggest making a late appointment. (Side note: the meters here are 25 cents for 12 minutes, so it's a little pricey). But the location is great with tons of light, and they offer a beverage while you wait. I got some tea and it was so tasty. Definitely recommend this place, very much worth the price. -

I'm not big on doing my hair, I'm definitely the low maintenance wash and go type. My hair is wavy and I've got A LOT of it. So I bought a Groupon for Maryjane Salon ($40 for $100 worth of service!!! Oh YESH!) Gerardo was my stylist and I love LOVE how comfortable he made me! He is a total sweet heart and very friendly. He listens to everything you say you want and is honest about what he can do with your hair.
I told him my predicament (I'm growing out a haircut that I had done over a year ago... a very SHORT but cute bob.) It's finally evening out but I always had a "shelf" of layers. And it made my head kind of look like a triangle. I didn't want to lose the length so he just evened out the ends. But he added a ton of texture to the lower portion so the shelf look I had has completely disappeared. He gave me a great cut and I love how it turned out. He was great about doing exactly what I wanted and I love how my hair turned out! Also it's super easy to style. I just use a blow dryer! Beats using my dryer, my straightener, and a ton of product to keep it stick straight in order to hide my shelving units! LoL!
Also, he cut my bangs and I loooove how they turned out! He really framed my face nicely and I'm very happy with the entire turn out.
It's always a pain when you are growing out a hairstyle and I usually end up wearing my hair in a pony tale for 6-8 months waiting for things to look more normal. But since I've got my hair done I've been HAPPY to blow it out and let it have a more natural wave to it! I'm very happy with the results and will recommend Gerardo to anyone!
Also, I got my lip done by David and he was so nice! They have a cute little spot upstairs and the whole staff is friendly and not pretentious what so ever! Oh and a definite plus is they have wine you can sip on while getting pampered! :") Thank you Maryjane you guys were great! -

I absolutely love this salon! I have seen Badri for a cut, and again for a color. She is amazing and I highly recommend that anybody that has never been here, to see her. I had always trimmed my hair & bangs myself, and had never been to a nice salon before (well, Its been years!) My cut is amazing, and is also growing out nicely. I got highlights from her, and am very scared of the word "highlights", in fear of having my brunette locks streaked with blonde. She did a fantastic job of blending lots of shades of brown through my hair, giving it a very natural and non-streaky look. Badri also does very good with my bangs, she uses a razor and they have looked great both times she has done them.
The salon as a whole is very accommodating and seemingly much more comfortable than most salons I have walked past. There is a bit of sticker shock here but you won't regret booking with this salon and seeing Badri :-)Listed in: "best of" Hillcrest

New to the city and going 6 months without a haircut I knew it was time. I did some extensive research via yelp and found Mary Jane Salon to be entrusted with my lush locks.
First off, just making an appointment was a five star rating. A person actually there to answer the phone and then asking in depth questions about my hair to find the best stylist for my hair. I loved it my hair and I felt like we were going to be in good hands.
So I had the wonderful luxury of being in stylist Season McKessons direction. I must admit I am quite a boring client for most hairstylist as I am in need of a fuss free hairstyle. But the best part about Season was she listened to exactly what I wanted and even put some extra special touches in. Needless to say I will be back and it wont be 6 months later. -

I'm very suspicious of the fact that half of these reviews are by people who have reviewed only one place: Maryjane Salon. Hmmmm. I wonder how many people work there.
I had a very good haircut by Scott Smith the first time I went, and a very bad experience the second time. On that second visit, he talked on his cell the entire time he worked on my hair (which he didn't cut as well as he did on the first visit), and then turned me over to one of his stylists to blow dry my hair. She did a good job and gave me some tips regarding dealing my my cowlicky bangs, and when Scott heard me thanking her for her advice, he actually got mad and insulted her and her expertise. What a little creep. And I do mean little.
Never again. -

My friend called and said, "so, Mary Jane's?" I was like, "sure," thinking we were gonna grab a bite at the Hard Rock downtown. But, once we rolled up in front of the Hillcrest salon, I remembered our IM chat the night before about highlights & lash tinting. So, I figured, "WTF, since I'm here...might as well get a cut, right!"
The space is super cool. A comfy, classy but not too stuffy hair mecca. And, from entry to execution, everything was stylin' (...though it's not a spot for the handicapped cuz it's up a narrow flight of stairs.) But once you're inside, the immediately welcoming loft-like environ feels sleek, without trying to hard. Friendly desk staff offer you beverages (yes, even those of the adult varietal) while you wait for your hair guru.
And, let me just say that Christian, one of their part-time haircutter/stylists (works only on Saturdays, I believe) gives, hands down, one of the best clipper + scissor cuts & styles that I've had...and I've been to my share of places, from high-end to barbershop. Absolutely, completely worth every penny (plus tip,) which is fairly reasonable in comparison to similar salon offerings in the neighborhood.
Give this gem a go, even if just for a consult...or blow out...or a hair chat & glass of vino! Don't forget to ask for Christian, his skills will blow your mind...literally! -

The salon is cute, very modern and fresh. It was awesome I was there in the evening and the french doors were open to the outside which was great.
The haircut....aahhh not so good. I have terribly fine hair and I am not sure the stylist knew what to do with it. I left the salon with hair flatter than when I went it. She couldn't even style it. So for $65 I was not impressed at all.
I was excited to go here after reading all the reviews but came out sadly disappointed.
So now i am going to go somewhere else and have it fixed...so by the time its all said and done this will be a VERY expensive haircut.Comment from Alex C. of Maryjane Salon 10/13/2011

Cute little hair salon with lots of natural light coming in. I like the set-up, it's very open and relaxing. The haircut was great and the price was reasonable for this type of salon (around $50).
the only weird part is that they give you a neck massage, which is fine, but when I asked my hair stylist if she went to school for massage, she said she was actually really uncomfortable doing it and had to because its part of their policy. awkward. But, anyway, I don't blame her, or them, and the massage was great.
I would recommend. -

Big ups to my home girl Ellen and Mary Jane Salon. The only reason I stopped going there is because I moved to Texas, but whenever I'm back in town to visit I make it a point to hit up Miss Ellen Wright.
The salon itself is comfortable, clean, minimalist (I like that...) and just plain lovely. They always offer you a drink, and whether you choose water, tea or some vino, it's always perfect.
Ellen has been a friend for a while, but she'll do any of you up just right. She's my stylist as far as I'm concerned, even if I'm out here in Texas. She's such a doll she helped me out on my wedding day (because I'm special... this is not her normal thing) and she made me so pretty!!!
Definitely climb those stairs and turn right into Mary Jane Salon and you'll get yourself the perfect cut from perfect people. Remember though, it's in the heart of Hillcrest so parking can be a pain. Bring a lot of quarters or be prepared to have a bit of a walk. But you already knew that... -
Review from Fumi M.

I have been looking for a good salon ever since I moved to San Diego nearly 4 years ago. Not an easy task considering the anxiety I experience just at the thought of going to the salon. This anxiety is not because my hair 'has to be just so', or that I am scared of how it may turn out. The way I figure, it can always be fixed; and besides, my hair has been every length and color imaginable. In fact, I HATE to make decisions and my hair is no exception. I prefer to just plop myself down in the chair and let the stylist work their magic. The problem lies in the fact that there are only 2 people who have taken a scissors or color to my hair in the last 20 years prior to my arriving in SD. That is mom and my sister, both of whom are stylists themselves. Unfortunately for me, my move to San Diego has put more than 2000 miles between us. So trust is my real issue.
I cannot say enough good things about my recent experience at Maryjane Salon. Let me first start by addressing the space. This place has a wide-open floor plan with tons of great natural light. No fluorescents (like so many salons), so when you get a color you actually know what it truly looks before you leave the salon.
I received both a cut and color and was extremely happy with both. I have very curly hair, but also enjoy wearing it straight so it really takes someone who knows both hair types to give me the cut I need. Ellen did a wonderful job on my inverted bob cut and it looks great both curly and straight. Alex handled my color. Word of advice: don't let the bald head fool you...this guy knows hair color and is very creative - one of my favorite qualities in a stylist ;) I let him be inspired by my new haircut and was he ever! I walked out with a head of beautiful red hair and a cut I really LOVE!
Both Ellen and Alex can expect to see me in their chairs again - I only wish my hair didn't take so long to grow so I could pay them a visit more often. Thanks guys, you make a great team! -

This place comes highly recommend to anyone and everyone i meet.
Personally I'm not a huge believer of paying gaggles of money to get my hair cut and colored that's why i frequently sport the bad bang trim by yours truly.
Also I'd like to note my boyfriends ex is a hairstylist so i have a vendetta against them all!
Any who on my first visit i had the honor of having my hair colored by Shama. If you seek PERFECTION in a colorist, hands down go to her!
She will be brutally honest with your hair condition and type and what suits you and what probably won't. I loved her frankness and honesty.
The 2nd time around Scott the owner of this distinguished salon cut my locks a la Katie Holmes.
Kudos to this salon for not being overtly trendy and nauseating! Encore for the adept skills and accomplished trade of everyone here!Comment from Alex C. of Maryjane Salon 10/14/2011

I always feel like a cheapskate when I use Groupons at a restaurant or any other place that requires tip for the service person.
I've been here twice- the first time I had the groupon which was more than enough for the basic Cut and style. So I returned for another Cut and Style.
Both times Badri was my hairdresser. the first time was awkward and I didn't like that she kept encouraging me to get highlights or brazilian blowout. The first cut was just OK. but the second time I went there was the best hair cut I've ever had! I liked the layers and though she still suggested the highlights and brazilian blowout I wasn't as uncomfortable saying no thanks. Badri included a complimentary glass of wine and neck massage! but she kept asking me "small talk" questions while I had my eyes closed. I was trying to enjoy the relaxing neck massage.
I'd love to go back for another hair cut but can't afford it rite now. -

Since I started going here my hair has never looked better! Maryjane Salon is the best! I can't say enough good things about the people, the services they provide and the overall experience.
Last time I was there my meter was about to run out and they went and put change in for me, they go beyond good service. -

This place is AMAZING. Let's start with the customer service aspect - everyone who works there is extremely courteous and friendly, not at all snobby like you would expect in some nicer salons around the San Diego area. They also don't ruin the salon experience by pushing you to buy their product at the end of the day... suuch a nice change. The salon itself is quaint, a cute little spot with lots of natural light so you can actually tell what your hair will look before you get outside.
As for the actual work, I had David do my color and Christian do my cut. David did a great job with the highlights, adding subtle tones of red/brown, which is just what I wanted and none too flashy! He even spent a lot of time drying/styling my hair even though the salon was closing. Dedication to the art, I loveee. In regards to the cut, I walked in not knowing what I wanted, but Christian got it totally right even though it's nothing I ever would have thought of. Awesomeness all around.
Thank you guys for the work and I'll see you in a couple weeks!
Ps. Extra brownie points for offering champagne/wine/mimosas upon arrival! :D -

I absolutely love this place! I found it by accident when my room mate and I were looking for a salon to get a haircut. We strolled in right as they were about to close... when I asked if Scott (the guy working, who happened to be the owner) knew of somewhere ELSE I could get a haircut that night he offered to just do it for me even though they were closed for the day :-) Not only is he one of the sweetest people I've ever met but he gave my room mate and I fantastic hair cuts and I have been going back there ever since. All of the stylists are hand picked and SUPER friendly... the atmosphere isn't like a typical salon (snotty), they're real... friendly and go WAY out of their way to make their service special! Read the other reviews!! Definately my fav spot in San Diego for amazing customer service, fabulous hair cuts (that look "fabulous" for months!!!) and a spa experience.
Man or woman.... you should DEFINATELY stop by the salon.

I still really love this salon. I urge everyone who is seeking a new hair stylist to go here. Neck massage before your cut/color? Champagne? Wine? Yes, yes and yes. You couldn''t ask for more. Thank you Maryjane. You're amazing!
On a side note, Season cuts my hair now and she frickin' rocks! She knows what I want and she is awesome! She's completely down to Earth and I don't want anyone else to cut my hair. I'm sticking with Season. I really suck at doing my own hair, so she makes me feel like a rockstar when I leave here.
I've also seen David at Maryjane who does color too! He did a fantastic job. So know that no matter who you see at Maryjane, your hair will look superb! Part of me wants to keep Maryjane Salon all to myself so that I will never have to wait for an appointment or so no one else's hair looks as good as mine, but they're so wonderful.. I want them to thrive! I LOVE YOU MARYJANE!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Diego, CA
By far my best experience at a hair salon.
I was roughly six months overdue for a haircut and contemplating making an appointment when my boss informed me of the likeliness that Monday would be my next day off for the next three weeks or so. I work in Hillcrest, and am referred by stylists to their salons on an almost daily basis. My excuse is always that I don't have the money or don't yet know exactly what I'd like to do with it. Often I just give the ambiguous "maybe." Secretly, I'd had my eye on *maryjane* for months, since I'd read the glowing reviews on Yelp and realized it was in the neighborhood.
I once had a chat with a customer at my place of employ. She had only just had a haircut, and I had complimented it. She immediately recommended *maryjane*, saying, "Their cuts are always perfect, professional, utterly sophisticated yet beautiful. If you're considering going, just do it now." That was months ago, but I kept her comment in mind.
So on the night that I spoke to my boss, I ventured online to find contact information. The plan had been to see if it would be possible to get in Monday. The site has online booking; wonderful. Yet the salon appears to be closed on Mondays. My only option, then, was to get a cut sometime Saturday morning, with enough time to still run other errands and be at work by noon (keep in mind that I am without a car). I sent in a request for an appointment. No reply, but when I called five minutes or so before the store opened the next day, I received an answer and was informed that, yes, there was an opening for a haircut with Shama at 9:15. Their quick and considerate efficiency set the tone for the entire experience.
Arrived to find that Seasons would be cutting my hair instead. She did an amazing job. Typically I find myself getting my hair cut by someone with over-styled, choppy hair, who does something totally weird that just doesn't grow out well. If friends, family, and strangers compliment my hair, it's almost always the color and never the cut. Yet both today and yesterday I've received numerous comments on the beauty of the cut itself, and what it does for my hair. I'm a redhead and while my hair is remarkably fine, there's a lot of it. As a result when I walk, my hair tends to fly as if in the wind. Seasons recommended a project that weighs the hair down a bit without making it greasy. My hair feels like -hair- for the first time, and not a big poofy burden.
The head, neck and shoulder massage was just what I needed, and the chatter was polite, natural, and not at all awkward or forced. The price was utterly reasonable. I'm still infatuated with my hair and my experience at *maryjane*, which easily could have been far from relaxing, given such circumstances as time, finances, my arrogance in scheduling myself in, unfamiliarity with the salon, etc. I'm totally elated to have found -my- salon, and I hope others will find this to be their reaction as well. :) -

I Love this place. Alex does my color and Maggie cuts my hair. I moved about a year ago and it took me a long time to find a place I really like and trust, this place is it.
It has a great atmosphere and everyone is very nice. More important than any of that, they do a GREAT job on hair.
I get highlights and low lights- Alex does an awesome job with the different shades, they blend perfectly. I have very thin hair but like to wear it long, so Maggie does this great layered cut that gives me more body without taking away from the length.
Prices are average for a higher-end salon. I think I pay somewhere between 200-250 for full foil high/low lights and a cut. It's sooooo worth it. -

Update - this salon is under new management as of November. The previous owner was under review here - not the current one.
ALERT -
The major problem with all of the reviews here - they had a contest to see who could write the best review - and the person that won ended up with a monetary prize.
Not exactly unbiased or ethical.... I will ask every salon that receives high stars if they have some kind of incentive program for Yelp. Recommend you do the same!Comment from Alex C. of Maryjane Salon 10/14/2011

San Diego, CA
Me: I have asian hair down to the middle of my back. It's coarse and sometimes hard to manage for my active life style. I went in with some grown out bangs and no shape.
What I wanted: I really needed a stylist who had vision. It's hard to find a stylist that can take charge of managing/styling my hair in a way that would really fit for me without giving too much direction. I needed someone I could trust because they have EXPERIENCE.
How: I found Maryjane Salon on yelp and noticed it had some good reviews so I took a chance.
Experience: I had a little trouble finding the place because it was located through a little awning that had the bldg. number on it and the fact it was on the 2nd floor. But once I found it I was happy. The place overall is small but had a very open layout. They have a small patio that opens up to the street below. And when I arrived there in the late afternoon it was a cool/comfortable temp. I was welcomed by a nice receptionist who offered me water while I waited. Even though my appt. started 30 mins late, I was happy that they comped me a conditioning treatment for their lateness. They gave me a robe to change into so that my shirt wouldn't get hair on it which was a plus. My stylist was Badri who's is awesome. She told me the type of hair I had and was really clear with what she felt would look great on me. I wanted to keep the length and she gladly obliged because she loved the length as well. She even waxed my eyebrows because she noticed they needed a little clean up.
Quirks: I noticed they had wine for other customers which is something I've never experienced in a salon. They also allowed the another customer to have their puppy on the patio.
Overall Results: I love my hair and this little salon. The price is pretty decent too. I would definitely here again to maintain my new-do. -

I have been going to the same hairstylist for a couple of years now, and was bored with my hair, but I didn't trust her to change it the way I wanted. So off of a friend's recommendation, I tried maryjane. I loved Ellen's cut, it really gave me the change I wanted. And it still looked like me! She listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me some great suggestions too. Would definitely suggest this to anyone who was looking for a new stylist!!

I love it here. My friend Ellen was in beauty school when I first started having her do my hair, and she's never given me a bad haircut in the many years I've been going to her. Now that she's at Maryjane, I'm even happier!
The neck, shoulder, and scalp massage that starts all cuts is wonderful. So soothing, so relaxing! The products used are excellent quality and smell wonderful. The caliber of staff is very high; you won't find better stylists even if you pay three times the price. I've only gone to Ellen, but I've seen other people getting their cuts, styles, dyes, etc. and I have yet to see a bad cut. My mom even drives down from Los Angeles specifically to come here to get her very thick unruly frizzy hair cut. Ellen deals with the challenge in stride!
I love the suspended mirrors, the little vases of flowers, the cleanliness of it all. It's elegant, artsy, friendly, stylish. Exactly the kind of place you'd expect a high-quality salon to be, without paying outrageous prices.Listed in: My Neighborhood

I had a haircut/layer with Ellen. Great service! Very relaxing environment & no-stress stylist. The haircut however was not worth the $ (approx 50) because the stylist did very little. It looked like the stylist only trimmed a little off the end of my hair at the bottom and did virtually no layering. When I looked at the floor after my cut, there was only a very small handful of hair snippets on the ground. I was glad she didn't mess up my hair, and it may be lack of communication on my part but: (1) I showed her several pictures of the layer I wanted before my cut; (2) compared to other stylists I've had, I didn't feel like she was cutting very confidently; and (3) she asked for no confirmation from me whether the layering was what I wanted before handing me the mirror, at which point I was too embarrassed to say what I really wanted to say which was: what?! you're done? I thought you were going to do a dry-cut! that was it?! I could have trimmed the bottom of my hair myself! Instead, I just said thanks and paid a big tip because I suck at confrontation.
Unfortunately, I won't be back -- even IF they do give free bang trims. -

A pleasant experience from start (calling to schedule) to finish (getting my newly-highlighted hair styled before I left).
Ellen did my highlights and she worked quickly and expertly. After she finished, the owner himself, Alex, blow-dried my hair, and he was so down-to-earth and kind. He noticed me studying his round-brush technique and talked me through it, which was nice. Both people who worked on my hair, and the receptionist, were super-pleasant and laid-back (not always easy to find at a salon).
The prices were very reasonable, and the salon itself was very clean and comfortable, with the giant double-doors wide open over the street (on the second floor). I don't usually love sitting there getting highlights, but I actually kinda had fun there. -

I've been a client of Maryjane's for about 3 years now. I've always received fantastic service, specifically from Cassandra. I highly recommend it. :)

I can't believe I haven't yelped this place yet!! My friend Britt turned me on to this place, specifically Christine, she's amazing. Now, it's pricey, but it's full service. Shampoo and rinse, plus the cut, plus some expensive product, plus a five minute head and neck massage to start. PLUS, you get to wear kind of a spa robe. Genetlemen, this is kind of a froo froo place, and I am no froo froo kind of guy, but I came to look forward to appointments as like a mini spa day, just relaxing and lovely. It always smells great in the hair salon, the stylists are all really friendly, and the receptionists are very capable and approachable. I was pretty nervous the first time I strolled in, but Christine is awesome, no matter where I go they cannot replicate what she does with my hair. I moved away from SD, but if I can I get my hair cut here when I visit.

Hands-down, the best salon I've ever been to! The vibe is always nice and mellow, and the service is phenomenal. They're really great - especially when you have to move your appointment around (I'm constantly on the phone with the receptionist a week before, changing the time due to work stuff). No matter what, this is always an appointment I hate breaking!
People are always asking me to refer them to my salon because of my haircut, and I always hand them the business card. Christine definitely rocks! And no, I'm not being paid to say that.
I definitely recommend them for a great haircut experience... :)Listed in: My Neighborhood
