we got a great deal on this hotel.. booked through http://hotwire.com which doesn't let you exactly pick your hotel but if you end up with the marriott you won't be dissapointed

we ended up getting a free upgrade to a suite too!  cuz the hotel was sooo fully booked.. had a king size bed, living room area with couch, flat screen TV and 2 balconies.. i also liked the fact that the mini fridge is empty for you to fill up with your own goodies and boooze and not full of overprized hotel swag

hotel has full amenities incl 24 hour gym and a spa.. it has 2 towers both of which have nice views as this hotel is pretty much right on waikiki beach.. if you are on the back part of the hotel, you are the length of the hotel away from the beach.. each tower has its own pool area and hot tub as well.. it has shops (incl. 2 ABC's), and a couple of renowned restaurants.. the lobby is huge too and is open air concept.. one part has tables where you can relax surrounded with plant life and a mini stream.. its a cool vibe!

i say well worth it for the approx $140 US (incl. taxes) a night that we paid.. reg price maybe around 200-250/night

We booked thru Delta Air, got a great deal. That is where our luck ended.

I had not been to Oahu in about 20 years and it was tough to decide where to stay. We chose the Marriott thinking it was a safe bet. Now that we know better, we will NOT be back to this Marriott. The Aston Waikiki Beach across the street was about $400 less for the week and the Hyatt was about $200 less - all across the street from the beach. We should have choose either of those hotels. The Aston was brand new and had a better casual restaurant (Tiki) and pool. The Hyatt was closer to the action on Waikiki and in better shape.

Although the Marriott has nice beds, the service stunk. No matter who was at the front desk they had an attitude of over worked and under paid. Totally atypical of Marriott. Agreed the pools are small and in need of some TLC, the 2 towers are kind of funky. Looks like they maybe took over a hotel next door and tried to then connect them. Strange.  The pool restaurant was not so great but better then their casual Kuhio's which seemed to always only have Buffet (scary!) The DK Steakhouse was good, Michelin Star.

They also refused to give me Marriott rewards points for our stay because we did not book through Marriott. Where is the loyalty in that?

Lastly, street park (thanks Yelpers!). It was about $30 a day to use Marriott's lot and it was always easy to find street parking. It is metered during the day on the hotel block, the next block over was not (and if you rent a car you will most likely be driving it during the day, right?). Same walking distance from the hotel garage to the hotel.

It's a huge hotel with two towers,  just steps away from the beach of Waikiki.  We had a lovely big balcony over-looking the ocean.  I thought for a resort the bed could have been more comfortable.  I didn't wake up with sore-back, but I didn't sleep like a baby either.

Unfortunately internet access is something like $10 per day.  Ouch!

Out of all their restaurants, I only tried their breakfast buffet ($18), and loved their waffles.  Everything is expensive in Waikiki, at least in this place the food isn't too offensive.

Got a partial ocean view with King bed in the tower overlooking the tiki bar from the hotel nextdoor.  Got a great rate with flight on orbitz but had to upgrade to a partial ocean view from what the initial option was online.  When I arrived I asked how much a full ocean view would be and since I was a Marriott Rewards member it was $40 extra a night instead of $60 but still not worth it since it's basically the same room.

Bathroom was tiny, shower/tub and toilet separated from vanity and sink which was nice but made the shower and toilet area the size of an airplane lavatory!  Powerful shower head with removable and adjustable pressure head which was very helpful in removing all of the sand from the beach.

Bed was comfy and clean.  A/C was perfect and easy to adjust.  Lanai balcony was a lot larger than other balconies from other hotels!  Two chairs, small table, and a full reclining lounge chair for sunbathing while the better half takes a long nap or shower.

Even though it was a partial view it was still a great view of the ocean and Diamond Head.  I don't mind seeing neighboring hotels and buildings while out on the balcony.  I like the variety of things and people to look at other than just the ocean waves which I can see from  my balcony at home.

There was a Tiki Bar right across the street from us that was kinda loud if you left your doors open but if you expect a quiet relaxing night sleep then you probably shouldn't be staying in Waikiki. It's a very touristy and loud city that is popular for its nightlife and shopping not it's quiet tranquil nights.  Oh and BTW, we went to the Tiki Bar.... it's not bad, and the live music is entertaining when you are actually AT the bar and not 15 floors above it!

Ate at Sansei which had great sushi and a delicious udon noodle soup.  The waitress was horribly slow and did not crack a smile the entire dinner, but our hostess and bartender were very friendly made us feel welcome even though we had no reservations for a group of 7 people on a Sunday. So I would recommend eating here even if you don't stay here. Great option for groups of people were some people want sushi and others just want steak or seafood.

There were two pools, one with a hot tub and the other was near the Grill.  The one by the grill was 8 feet deep which is rare in a small hotel pool like this one so it was nice.  The cushiony lounge chairs were very comfortable and a nice relief after trying to relax at the dirty beach across the street.

The hotel is right across the street from the beach but honestly it isn't a very pretty or clean beach.  It's very narrow and not very much room to lay out your towel.  And maybe it's just me or the week that I went but there were some of the grossest looking people on the beach in Waikiki across from the Marriott!!!  Much better view at beaches on the North Shore!

Got lomi lomi massages at the Spa on the 3rd floor.  It wasn't a very impressive spa.  in fact if I would have taken the "complimentary spa tour" that is advertised on the sign in the elevator I never would have gone based on the looks of the place.  The massage itself was nice though better I expected from judging by the appearance of the spa.  There isn't any hot tubs or soaking tubs which I expect in a resort style spa.  There was a shower with a rain shower head offered after your treatment though.

I probably won't stay here again since I had friends stay at the Sheraton I think I like the location and hotel their better.

When you get there the chances are they'll upgrade your room for free to a partial ocean view. It's a great view, especially if you can be in the front tower. The TV is great, but who watches a ton of TV in Hawaii?

The pools are tiny, but with the beautiful beach right across the street I can understand why. The pool bar has a daily drink special for $7 which is pretty nice, generally the drinks are good.

The room was really nice for the price, big enough to spread out a bit and the lanai was fantastic.

We had a car and here's the best tip I can give -- park across the street (in the alley where the tour lobby is) at the Ewa Hotel. It's $10 per night with in and out privileges. So much cheaper, you can afford to buy another Mai Tai!

This place is beautiful.

The service is awesome. The swimming pools (there are 2), are a little small. There's also a jacuzzi that is ALWAYS crowded every night. The gym is tiny but well kept.

The ocean view on the 17th floor is freaking awesome. We saw the ocean to the right, mountains to the left, and Diamond Head straight ahead. Can't beat that!

My only complaint about this place is the actual patrons. They're old and unattractive. Majority of them. The few young crowds are non-English speaking Japanese. Can't a girl just get a little bit of eye candy on her vacation??????????????

Hotel was alright.  They stuck me with one of the older rooms, but at least it still had a balcony.  I took Pete S. tip and parked across the street at the banyan for $10. Better than paying $25 a night....

The hotel is conveniently located at the end of the strip, away from most strip traffic (I thought it was relatively quiet), is a quick walk to the beach, and was kept nice and clean by the service staff.

Only complaint I had was a grumpy check-in lady.  At least put on a smile... I know you had a long day, and so did I when my flight was delayed for several hours, screwing up my plans.  I would rather you fake a smile than be truly disappointed you had to work at 2am.

Great hotel for the price.  Lobby's got a nice waterfall and lots of seating area for hotel patrons.  Front desk service and housekeeping service is excellent.  It's located directly across the street from the beach so that is great, except it's located at one end of the strip so if you want to go to the shopping area, then it's a little further.  But I'd have to say the good part of that is the beach area is a little less crowded.  there are 2 swimming pools which are great, we spent a lot of time there and you can also food/drinks too.  they have laundry facilities.  their business center is always open, which is great but it's a minimum of 10 mins and $6.50 charge, which i think is kinda excessive.  i only needed like 3 mins to check my email.

the biggest complaint i have though is that the walls are kinda thin between the rooms.  my neighbors were soooo noisy and we heard every word that they were saying.

Great location...across the street from the beach, near the Waikiki action but not IN it (makes a difference in terms of noise and congestion). Also great deal -- we stayed 5 nights and the 4th night was free. Still pricey but it is Honolulu after all (I believe of the top 10 expensive US cities).
Hotel was clean, mostly updated, but a few blahs (dirty carpets, moldy shower curtains). Might stay here again.

Stayed here since we found a great deal on http://Expedia.com for roundtrip airfare and 4 nights at the Marriott Waikiki. I was pleasantly surprised and am glad that we ended up here.

Pros:
-Very friendly staff
-Prompt service
-Nice pools with plenty of seating
-Balcony to overlook beautiful Waikiki
-Large LCD flat screen TV in our room
-Convenient walkway access to Waikiki Beach
-Valet was quick and efficient (you call them before you pick up your car)
-Shops are located in the lobby which made it very convenient to pick up any essentials (ABC Store), get our morning cup of kona coffee (Seattle's Best Coffee) and buy goodies to take home (Honolulu Cookie Company).

Cons:
-Wireless internet costs an additional $14 per day
-Valet parking costs $32 plus tax per day

Overall this was a great place to stay, just budget your money wisely.

*sigh*  I love this hotel!

I've been traveling to Oahu every year for the past couple of years and the Marriott has has been my favorite place to stay so far.  Its conveniently located at the end of the main strip...away from all the traffic and noise.  Try to get a room in the K tower (newer, front tower) because the views are fantastic!!  Because its across the street from the beach (rather than just on the beach), not only do you get a full view of the Pacific Ocean, you also get a beautiful view of the city.

The rooms are pretty small but you're in Hawaii..go enjoy Hawaii...not your room.  The lanais are actually a lot bigger than  those at other hotels.  All lanais have 1 small table, 1 chair, and 1 full lounge chair.   its a perfect place to chill and watch the sunset or just the ocean...or if you want, a perfect place to eat breakfast.

What I love most about this place is that its just far enough away from the main strip that you avoid alot of the traffic, crowd, and noise but still close enough for you to walk everywhere.  Plus you're surrounded by everything.  Cross the street and you're at the beach.  Thirsty?  There's  2 ABC Stores on the property.  Hungry?  Just stand outside and there are numerous options.

You really can't go wrong with this hotel!

I start my review with the drive from Reisterstown, MD to BWI/Marshall Airport just south of Baltimore City. Not so bad. It's a much longer car/train ride to get to work everyday. Then there's airport check-in, baggage x-ray, and sneaker search. After an hour and a half of waiting, (they say get there early), it's time to board the plane for 10 plus hours of air time; first Baltimore to Atlanta then Atlanta to Honolulu. Whew, what a trip. My wife and I were exhausted by the time our ride got us to the Marriott from HNL. But, oh, the people at the Marriott Waikiki made it all worthwhile.

Hotel check-in was fast and friendly and the open air hotel lobby was breezy and comforting, and full of foliage. Many props to the gentleman who took our bulky, unwieldy luggage to our room smiling the whole way without breaking a sweat. Room 1117 had a sunny, fantastic view of the Pacific facing southwest off our lanai.

Tired and still adjusting to the time zone, we called room service for dinner. They were quick and accommodating with our meal.  I had the pizza with smoked duck.  Different, yes, and Spartan, just sprinkled with grated cheese, but good.  I'm usually a roast duck kind of guy.

We loved the room, it was comfortable and quiet with the lanai door closed, but when open you could easily hear the busy hustle-and-bustle from the street below, but it was coupled with the soothing ocean roar.  So, that was no problem.  Glad to say we did not ever catch the late night noise from the infamous neighboring party hotel of other reviews. Maybe that's on the other side of our room at the Marriott or closer to the other tower?  We slept like babes.

And we loved the easy convenience of just crossing the street to get to the beach. I spent many an early morning after breakfast sitting near the Kalakaua statue smelling and feeling the ocean breeze, basking in the morning air.

The Marriott was like home-away-from-home and when our week was done and we had to return to Maryland I wanted to cry. Every staff member we met was very courteous and knowledgeable and the concierge desk was fantastic about getting our touristy events planned and transports ready.

We were at the Marriott in late March 2009 visiting our daughter for Spring Break. I think about Honolulu and the Marriott almost daily. It is assured that when we go back to Honolulu next Spring that the Marriott Waikiki Hotel is where we'll be bedding.

P.S.: Kuhio Grill has a good & plentiful breakfast buffet and the friendliest waitresses and hosts I've seen at 5 a.m.  Their dinner just so-so (see also: http://www.yelp.com/bi...).

I stayed here for a week when i was in Waikiki.  The negatives that I can think of was my room, it smelled kinda funky but I eventually got used to it. Also, I had checked in early and wanted a high floor, they gave me 7th floor (I believe it goes as high as 32) , which wasn't bad at first until a day later a bunch of kids were on the same floor. Note to self: don't come during spring break. There's no free wi-fi nearby, I checked so don't bother. Not even Seattle's Best.

Also, the parking sucks here, $26 a night for your own parking is a crime. So I had started a thread on Yelp and thanks to the HI yelpers, I saved a bit of $$ on parking. http://www.yelp.com/to...

The positives were, the bed was clean, there is a small balcony, they have a fridge and a LCD TV, a 24 hour workout room. The staff were friendly, the grounds were spacious, the location was pretty central to Waikiki beach. There's a hertz rental which also helped me with my problems there, thumbs up for that.

If you go on their website, they have a kamaaina rate but just to note, that room is pretty aweful since it is on the lower floor with no balcony and even the staff said it was the worst room in the hotel. I verified this because a local friend of mine wanted to stay here as well.

Overall, it's not a bad hotel. I booked it here because I booked a package deal and I am also a Marriott member. Though I don't get any points from the package deal, I guess I am somewhat brand loyal. Damn these marketing strategies, they do work!

So being the active balla on the budget that I am....we stayed across the street from Marriott, and just went over to use their facilities. (our friends were actually staying there, but they never even checked).

The Moana Terrace was awesome! After a day on the bustling beach, and lying on lumpy sand, the beach loungers here felt like heaven on the body. The cushions were so thick! Plus the waiter would come by every 15-20 minutes, to check up on us to make sure we were ok.

The drinks and food are a bit pricey, but it was worth it. Best chicken wings I've ever had. Get the sauce on the side, I promise you won't regret it.

The mai-tai in a pineapple had hubby drunk, and flirting with fat ladies in the hot tub. And the pina coladas had me passed out, getting my tan.

At night they had a live hawaiian band. They were amazing, singing mainstream hits and classic Hawaiian songs.

The hotel as a whole, was a bit pricey, considering you still had to walk to the beach, but the amenities inside made it worth it. (especially if you're just sneaking in to use their pool)

I guess for a big-city hotel in a touristy area, it's pretty good. A bunch of things that I didn't like were out of their control, like the music blaring from the hotel next door starting early in the morning and going late into the night, but overall I didn't have any major complaints.

We stayed in the tower closest to the beach. It was nicely appointed and our room was pretty big. It didn't feel cramped like some corporate hotels do. The balcony was nice but again, it faced the hotel next door that played music, so keeping the door open wasn't really an option. Plus the noise of the city in general isn't too soothing. Our friends were staying in the other tower and they said it wasn't as nice as the room we were in - it was more bland corporate looking than ours.

It was pretty crowded in the pools when we were there. Lots of kids, which is ok since we had kids there too. But the pools were not huge for the number of people crowding in them. Only one hot tub.

They let us check out late since our flight wasn't until 8:45 pm, and they held our bags for us for the day, giving us access to them whenever we wanted. There is a hospitality room with showers and a TV if you've checked out but were there for the day using the pool (like we did) before leaving for the airport.

Concierge was most helpful when we had questions about where things were, how to get a shuttle, etc. Nice that there are two coffee shops in the hotel, plus ABC stores every 10 feet. Spa was nice but pricey.

It was clean and pretty much what I'd expect from a corporate chain hotel.

Great job, Marriott Waikiki.

Was here for a week and loved every second of it.

Rooms were clean, great views, VERY nice staff, ABC store in the lobby, great location, etc.

It's super close to the hostels in the area and to the massive park near Diamond Head.  It also doesn't hurt that it's across the street from the beach.  Sweet!

I would definitely go back here.

Don't half step.  There aren't too many decent food places within walking distance that are open late.

I would rate this 143 Trillion Billion Zillion stars if i could.

It has what the french call a certain "je ne sais quoi".

the Property off the batt is well taken care off. lush plant and bird life around.

I used many of the property services right from the get go.

checked my bags in early and did the Waikiki walk.
they give me news letter with many coupons inside that i actually used.
the concierge was able to get me dinner reservations for Sansei at the push of the button.
I locked myself out of the hotel room at 2am and the security was up to let me with in 5 mins of being called.

You can find a total of 3 ABC stores with in 50 feet of the Lobby(2 on property 1 across the street). always great for Drinks and munchie runs.

if you come here i would suggest asking for a room higher than 20 to get away from the street noise.

I personally had a beautiful room with a Ocean and Strip view which was near perfect.
room was clean and bed was sooooo soft.

I ate at 2 of the Restaurants on site Sansei and Kuhio grill (see my reviews) and will be returning to Sansei for sheeez....
thy end.

P.S

They have a floor 13 at this hotel. I guess they don't believe that superstition.

A very good and reasonably priced property, although parking will set you back a cool $32.00. The service is excellent, and the hotel manager will accommodate any special request you throw his way. Be prepared to wait a while at check-in; for some reason they're understaffed around lunch time when a lot of people are trying to check in. The rooms: Clean, recently renovated, 42" LCD TVs, free wireless internet, very comfortable beds, quiet AC, and basic bathrooms with high quality soaps, shampoos, etc. They have more than enough travel assistants on the ground floor to help you set up various tours of the island.... they'll also give you a nice day-long "Could we interest you in a Marriott time share" lecture if you let them. Don't.

I stayed here for 3 nights while on vacation in Hawaii, and I must say that I was very satisfied with the experience. Both check-in and check-out was prompt and friendly. We got a room in the back tower on the 25th floor facing Diamond Head and the ocean, and we had a very beautiful view.

There are plenty of amenities in the hotel to keep you occupied....two swimming pools, two ABC stores for all of your random needs, two branches of Seattle's Best Coffee, a branch of Honolulu Cookie Company etc, as well as other nice little stores to browse through. Although it's not directly on the beach, it's just a short walk across Kalakaua. It's located more towards the end of the main strip though, but it's still a short stroll to everything that Waikiki has to offer. It's also very close to Kapi'olani Park and the zoo.

Parking is $20+ a day though which sucks, but then again it's probably around that rate throughout the Waikiki area. Watch out with the parking garage though....lots of weird scary turns.

I'm a Marriott points Ho. So I tried this one out, I should have known that anything right on the beach in Waikiki would be a little wack. As an elite member of Marriott points, I think standing in line for 30 minutes just to check in REALLY sucks. Yes, they charge a bunch for parking too, but I think given the location that's to be expected. The rooms are nice, but I still wonder why when you stay at a Marriott Courtyard internet is free ... but if you stay at a regular Marriott (like this one) they charge you a daily fee... wtf?

I was on a business trip, so I didn't get to try any of the pool or spa stuff.. :(

The stay here started bad, and got worse, but is ending up better.

We got to the hotel to check in, and as I am standing at the front desk with my two small kids (4 and 11 months) the lightbulb under the front desk burst and shattered all over my feet. I had flip flops on and glass was everywhere. I was more concerned about my four year old and checking on him, then to see my feet had glass stuck all over them. My son was okay, and I cleaned up my feet and the lady behind the front desk goes "oh, sorry", really?? So they finish checking us in at the next desk down, and I am still cleaning my feet and the glass is still all over the floor for the other guests to step on. FINALLY someone comes over and takes the check in ropes and blocks the area off till someone from housekeeping came and cleaned it up. They asked once if I was okay and then decided to give us our parking for free (7 nights).

We get up to our room in the newer tower and everything is peachy, till we go to bed. The Tiki bar across the way sounds like some club in Baja that is pumping music all night long. I didnt sleep, nor did my kids. I called and asked to switch rooms in the morning. oh boy. That set them off. "well, we are booked, you will have to check out at 11am and check back in at 3pm". Well that wasnt flying for me. I have the kids who need naps at 1pm. "sorry mam, there isnt anything we can do". Um.. sure there is. Next thing I know, everything is great thanks to the mention of the front desk lightbulb breaking. We move the next day to a room that was bigger, but the wall on the patio was concrete. You couldnt see a thing! So guess what? I wanted to change rooms. I dont care about the view. I just want to be able to see something other than a wall when I am out on the patio during the naptime, and I could be out there for 3 hours. So we were given the run around yet again. We moved into another room. um.. it was half the size, we couldnt walk in the room, let alone set up the port-a-crib they gave us. Where is my baby going to sleep?? So onto the 4th room. (4th times the charm right??) Its perfect. Perfect size, perfect patio, and guess what? Now I have a view, which I know I said I didnt care about, but its pretty awesome.

Would I come back here? more than likely no. I have been having bad luck with Marriotts lately for some reason, and they are usually the only place I like to stay. We are staying at a condo the rest of our 3 weeks here, and would have stayed at a condo the whole time if they had not been booked for our first week here. Oh the location is pretty good though, walking distance to almost everything in town.

It's not the Outrigger Waikiki (no Dukes CanoeClub for the nightlife...or Hula's for the great Breakfast-with-a-view) but I really loved the ambiance. It's a great place where the middle-class come to enjoy the fruits of their labor: that's me!

Seriously, if you manage to snag a corner-tower facing the ocean, you'll get some of the best views of Waikiki: photo's of sunsets that will surely be the envy of your friends when you arrive back home in Des Moines.

Their concierge service is great: they arranged a shuttle to the USS Arizona Memorial, and also for the trip back to the airport: it couldn't have been simpler.

Their pool-side bar & food is probably better than most places you'd drop $30 on; plus, you can jump in for a swim, while waiting for significant-other(s) to finish the make-up ritual :-)

Even though you'd be tempted to just stay in the 'complex' and veg-out to On-Demand TV, instead, go to Big Kahuna Bike Rentals and rent a bike for only $20/day...and enjoy an easy-ride up Diamond Head, with your female company...and kids too! Aloha, and Mahalo ~!

Terrible customer service and we haven't even set foot into the hotel.

What I really should have done was check yelp first, instead I got hyped up and booked immediately after seeing an advertisement for kama'aina rates.

We booked a room and was told to check in after 3 pm.  However, we were running late so decided that we probably won't make it til after dinner (around 8pm).  So we decided to call to ensure a late check-in would be acceptable.

The number is a 1-800 number, which initially goes to a local person but somehow they transferred our call to their central office on the mainland.  When we inquired about the status of our reservation, they told us they couldn't locate our reservation!!!! (ok, not the end of the world, but we were celebrating a special occasion and didn't want to run into any problems, plus we had already given them our credit card number and warned that if we didn't show up we would still be charged).

So they give us a local number to call just to check.  and we did.  but this local lady transferred us again to their central office!!!  After going back and forth, we finally spoke to someone in customer care (still mainland), who said they didn't have our reservation but could book us in for tonight.  We mentioned the kama'aina deal but she was unaware of it.  We even gave her the URL so she could see the advertisement.  To our dismay, she recommended booking online!!  Talk about incompetence.

After all this frustration, we decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Pretty bad considering we ran into problems before we even got there!

Bad first impressions!!

----UPDATE----

We eventually stayed at the Hilton.  Which was great!!!  Well, I should probably write a review about it under Hilton.  hehe =)

Update to my previous review.................

I dropped a star from 4 to a 3.  They just raised rates on parking.  It is $31 now to valet park.  Even with the raise in fees, I have to call numerous times before I can get a hold of someone to bring my car around.  When I do get through, it take them just a few minutes to bring the car around but for $31, I expect better service.

Same as the rest of the reviews, but I might add some things to their's.   I have been here two years in a row (for a conference), and it has all the amenities you can ask for (for work and vacation).  If you can afford it, get a room in the ocean front tower.  The views from your balcony are much nicer...see pic

1. The Italian place downstairs is great...a bit expensive, but good eats
2. The bar is also a bit expensive, but the live music is awesome and well worth the spend
3. Your longboard fits into the elevators
4. The rental car co. (Hertz) is ok, but inventory is always limited---make a reservation in advance
5. About $40 cab ride to/from airport

I stayed here on my first official business trip at the recommendation of a coworker and I'm glad I took his advice.  The guy who booked it stays at marriott a lot, so we got upgrades on the room.  Kingsize bed, balcony w/ a bit of an ocean view, and a big TV.  Extremely comfortable and stupid close to the beach.  Sure the restaurants/bars/coffee shop are probably overpriced, but they're right there.  I depended on the Seattle's Best in the Lobby for my morning coffee fix, and the asian fusion Sansei saved my skinny jetlagged arse w/ some veggie sushi on my first night.

The overall hotel is very pretty with a waterfall in the open-air lobby.  Close to everything - we walked to all the restaurants we ate at.  I'm sitting here now on my balcony enjoying the air and looking out at the ocean - not bad at all, and waaaay better than many hotels I've stayed at.

I have to say that we are fully satisfied with the customer service at this hotel. Everyone was accomodating and nice... One day we even took our own beers to the poolside, not knowing we're not suppose to do that... The waitress, was kind enough to let us know that outside beverages are not allowe, but that we are able to finish what we had opened already. Little did she know, we had the "same" beer for 4 hours!!! LMFAO!

Other than the hotel being right accross the street from the beach, everything is walking distance. No need to rent a car or take a taxi anywhere. All the tour buses came to our hotel or the others around ours... It was the perfect place to stay....

I've stayed at the Marriott Waikiki a couple of times now and I have to say, this place is pretty impressive.  For the following reasons:

Location:  This hotel is located on a great spot in Waikiki - it's on the main drag, but not in the very middle of it, so you're not around tourists all the time...it's on one of the more tame sections of the beach.  Everything is accessible from this hotel and so it's easy for the tourist.  You literally cross the street to access the beach, so this is makes things much easier for those on vacation.

Quality:  The staff does a really good job of maintaining the hotel - it's always clean and really feels like an escape.  The partial-outdoor lobby is nice and relaxing as well and it's always pleasant (you can see and smell some amazing Hawaiian flowers and hear birds chirping).  I will say that the decor is a bit outdated and I'm sure they'll be re-painting/renovating the hotel pretty soon, but considering how old the place is (built in the early 1970s), they've done a really good job of keeping it fairly up-to-date.  They've redone most of the rooms so there are flat-screen TVs and better-quality bedding.

Amenities:  The hotel offers a ton of services...I can actually see how someone can never leave the hotel, but still have an amazing time.  They offer a few different options when it comes to dinning - they have a buffet (Kuhio Beach Grill) , sushi/seafood (Sansei) and steak (d.k Steak House).  The restaurants are pricey and not too fantastic, but they are convenient (here's a tip for Sansei - after 10pm they have a late-night menu where most items are half-off - that's a really good deal!).  Besides the restaurants, they have a bunch of other stores that help with making your vacation even easier (there are two ABC Stores and two Honolulu Cookie Companies!).  They have a decent fitness room and good pools (you can borrow beach towels for going to any of the beaches on Oahu).

Try to stay at the Kealohilani Tower (and one of the higher floors if you can), since it's the one closest to the beach and the furthest from the busier/louder Paoakalani Tower, which is where you can hear a ton of tour buses driving and parking nearby.

While I usually try a new hotel with every visit to Oahu, this is one I look forward to going back to since it's so cool.

It was average at best. Not worth the $240 a night that I paid.
Front desk check-in time was terrible. Check-out was just as bad. no express service even though they told me i could check out from the tv in the room (service was unavailable).

Somehow they did not receive information on the room upgrade that I paid for through Pleasant Holidays - the check-in lady gave me a discount for a very nice high room facing the ocean for an extra $20 per night though.

I ended up getting room 1724 facing the east towards Diamond Head and the ocean. The only problem was that the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel played very loud music from 8AM until 11PM EVERY night. Luckily the hotel room had dual paned windows and very thick fire doors.
I don't know why the Marriott was considered a resort, there wasn't anything that made me want to stay onsite. Food was average to bad, service was there but had to ask for assistance, and the parking is $24/night.

Plenty of elevators - never had to wait that long.
No beach towels in the rooms - had to go to the 3rd floor pool to pick them up.

I don't think i'd come back to this hotel. For the same money but superbly better location and service, go to the Hyatt in the middle of the strip. The only real saving grace was that the hotel was at the end of the strip across the street from the zoo (which was sad) and that Kapahulu street was nearby and had lots of restaurants and a Grocery store that didn't try to gouge its customers (I went to a convenience store near the international marketplace and they were charging $17 for a 4 pack of Aquafina - no lie!)

I stayed at the Marriott from
5-26 - 6/3 - 09

Lets start with the pro's
Nice LCD tv in room
Nice fridge, it did a great job
I loved the AC in my room
We had a handicap room not sure why, but it's bigger :)
The bed was comfy and had 7 pillows on it :)
ABC stores are all over the place, and in the hotel open till 11:30 for one location and the other on the strip till 1:30 am.
Maids do a great job at cleaning

CONS
Have to pay to park in the hotel, EVEN if you rent a car from them
Pools are small and salty!
Staff isn't very good at informing you that the back street behind the hotel is rough and a tad ghetto.
My phone fell out of my pocket and was stolen in the lobby, from the security video only 2 workers and one guest walked by the spot i lost the phone, they didn't want to ask the workers if they saw it.  They advised it would be turned in if they saw it.
Prices on food upstairs is crazy, we at at a nice place up the beach and the food was at a better price.  Rack of ribs 18.95 at the shore bird, the place at the hotel was a small cheeseburger for 14$

All in all, great place to stay, my legs hurt from being in tower 2 vs being in tower 1 by the beach, but oh well :)

ALSO the drapes in some rooms are pushed all the way back behind a false wall, so for 5 days  I was up at 6 am because of the sun, not until i really looked back behind that wall did I see the drapes.  VERY heavy and dark :)

It was nice!  Great view and large room.  Well we had the family room hooked up with a playa price.  It pays to know people who work there!  We had a large room with two twins and two queen size beds and a spacious balcony that faces diamond head and walls (where you see the gazebo at wakiki beach aka walls).  The bathroom had a his and hers sink with granite countertops.  The room had a 42" lcd tv with HD cable.

Nice Waikiki beach hotel, but IMHO it's only worth the price if you get a beach-facing, high-floor room.

Location was good. Conveniently on Waikiki Beach, within easy walking distance of good food and drink (thank you, Yelp!), across the street from a relatively quiet stretch of beach, and near a nice park.  In addition to the handy ABC mini-mart, I really liked the hotel's SCUBA/snorkel shop -- beach chairs and gear at 1/2 price of renting across the street on the beach.

That said, being on Waikiki Beach means you have to live with a certain amount of street noise.  We were on the 23rd floor (of 25) so even the Sunday Harley riders were pretty muted, but I wouldn't want to be on a low floor.

The room (Ocean View Deluxe, I think) was nicely decorated and clean.  Nothing super-special, but spacious and comfortable.  Great to have a mini-fridge and coffee maker.

This is a top notch hotel with two pools, two hot tubs, great shopping, the little interaction I did have with the staff was pleasant and best of all this is probably the best or second best to the Surf Rider in all hotels in Wikiki. If your looking for a modern place with everything you need then this is your place to stay. The restaurants are all a bit pricey however they were good and you pay for what you get which is good service, food and location. The bell staff was friendly and helped me when I did ask them a question, I had nothing negative at all about the place. Will I stay here again, most likely, would I recommend it to someone, positively.

Across the street from the beach.  Flat screen TV.  Soon-to-be very outdated interior deco.  Large bathtub.  Very limited room service selection, and only available until 11pm (but, why?).  Well priced ABC store conveniently located in the lobby.  Service solid, but not worth more than  a mention.

Clearly a fairly even amount of positives and negatives.  Take this place off of a very entertaining and tropical beach and it becomes a 1 star.

Just got back from spending 5 nights at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.  The hotel itself is nice & has a great location with the beach right across the street.  We got a room facing Diamond Head & the ocean.  The view was beautiful.  Unfortunately, because we were in the front tower, our room picked up a lot of street noise.  There was always a fire truck & emt with its sirens on traveling down the strip once every 30 mins.  The hotel across the street plays live music for breakfast, lunch & dinner and the night club on Friday & Saturday nights.  I like to have the balcony door open at night, feel the ocean breeze & listen to the waves as I fall asleep.  I mean I'm on vacation & that's why I paid $$$ for the ocean front room!  It's a drag being woken up every morning at 7!  P.S. even with the balcony door closed, the room is still not quiet.

This hotel has improved over the years.  The rooms are nice and contemporary.  What you would expect from Marriott.

The thing I like about this place is the entertainment.  They have some of the best entertainment almost every night of the week next to the bar.  It gets really packed here.  The legendary Aunty Genoa Keawe sings here weekly.  On Thursday nights!

Auntie Genoa Keawe's Hawaiians, Hawaiian falsetto; 6-9 p.m.; Waikiki Beach Marriott, Moana Terrace; 922-6611.

It is classic Hawaiian music at its finest.  The food there is pretty good too.  The drinks are good as well.

The Marriott has two pools.  The one closer to the bar is more fun.  It is pretty shallow so good for kids.  The other pool, mauka side by the other tower is more for adults but kids are welcomed there too.

The Marriott has a lot more stores open now.  There are lots of restaurants and even some cheap eats on the street level.

The Marriott is right across the street from the beach and is my ideal place to send visiting friends and relatives that want to stay in Waikiki.  It is also a little cheaper than some of the other four-star hotels.

Our flight was canceled from Honolulu to LAX. Oh darn, do I have to stay in Hawaii longer?!  The horror! .... NOT.

Oh man, we were high- fiving all the way to the Marriott.  Hawaiian Air kindly shuttled us over here for dinner...a FREE dinner...until we had to be back and catch the next flight out.

Let me tell you...the Marriott buffet is A-MA-ZING.  Everything we tried was so scrump-dilli-icious I kept filling up my plate.  Salad, seafood, fruit, desserts, you name it, they were all on my plate at one time or another.

After the buffet, we hustled over to the beach across the street to catch the sunset and take pictures.  Then we went up to the bar on the second level...which incidentally has a great view of the beach too...and proceeded to get nice and liquored up for the flight back.  The Mai Tais here are killer!

Such a fun afternoon and evening that we thought we wouldn't have.  Happiness is one more unexpected sunset on Oahu.  Aloha!

The hubby and I decided that we needed to take a vacation before our baby is born.  So we decided to take a trip out to Honolulu for a week during my second trimester.

Once we got there, we were greeted by friendly staff as our bags were being taken out of the car in the valet area.  The lobby was filled with ginger, a variety of orchids and the sound of flowing water.  I waited patiently in the lobby as my husband checked in and he came back telling me that we were upgraded to an oceanview room.  When we got to the room, it was simply decorated with green decor and popcorn on the ceilings.  But it was overlooked when we walked out to the balcony and saw the view.  It was beautiful....  We had a full view of ocean and just sat and relaxed for a bit.  The beach was located right across the street... More like a hop, skip and a jump away!

As a part of our package, we were able to partake in the breakfast buffet during our stay.  The food was okay and the staff were there to do their job.  Not much of the aloha spirit!  The buffet consisted of cold cereal, yogurt, miso soup bar, omelet station and your ordinary area serving bacon, eggs, waffles, pancakes, fresh fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple)... and of course the rice and Portuguese sausage.  There was really nothing special with their buffet.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Marriott but the only gripe I had was that parking was an additional $18 to park in the garage each day.  But you have to expect that when you are located downtown and  if you forgot anything there were 2 ABC stores in the hotel along with a Seattle's Best Coffee Shop for a pick  me up.

Marriott has a great location and great views (if you pay for the rooms with a view).  It is literally across the street from the beach and is on the 'main street' of Waikiki.  The amenities are very good and even the hotel soaps are of good quality.

We had trouble with proper housekeeping and the night manager argued with us for some time, but the day manager quickly resolved the situation the next day.

We ate at the hotel restaurant twice (buffet) and were very satisfied both times.  The dinner buffet included 5 meat choices including king crab, and the smoothies were the best we had in Hawaii.  Breakfast offered the same fare as you'd expect in a hotel of this price (omelet station, hot buffet, etc.) but included Japanese breakfast options as well.

Overall we were quite satisfied with the stay, and plan to return.
