Is it a hotel, is it a timeshare, is it a little bit o' both?

It's a little bit o' both.  Lots of timeshare units here, but you can also just rent a room like it's a hotel.  But remember, no room service.  But it doesn't feel like a hotel.

We succombed to the timeshare pitch (hard to resist:  $66 per night for three nights if you agree to listen to the presentation) and stayed here.  And no, we didn't buy a timeshare because, unless you failed remedial math, it was just an ungodly bad deal.

Shadow Ridge is not really within walking distance of anything, unlike many hotels in Palm Springs, so keep that in mind.  Then again, you may not want or need to leave the property because it has some restaurants, a little market, and four or five large pools spread throughout the place.  If you have a young kid or kids, you could do a lot worse than this place.

It's a massively huge resort (if that's the right word) and the landscaping throughout was incredibly well-manicured.  There are also close to 1000 units total at the property which, um, is a s-load.

Bottom line:  I would probably return if I've got the kid, but I would avoid if I've got a hall pass.

I love this place. The kids love the swimming pools and acivities. Adrien, Yvette, and the older blond lady that work as lifeguards and activities people are so friendly and personable. They made us feel both treasured and at home our whole week there. Tony, the bartender at the pool is also awesome. Makes great drinks and fun to talk to. This is our second time vacationing here and we love it.

The only thing that happened that was a problem was some other guests/owners were at the new beach entry pool and their kids were throwing lounge chairs into the pool. The parents asked their kids once to remove the lounge chair and when the kids didn't, they just ignored it. Meanwhile, as the boys were dragging the lounge chairs around int he pool, my 7 year old daughter got hurt by one of them when she swam too closely. She came out bleeding and the parents of those kids still did nothing. After my husband telling the kids to stop to no avail, we finally called the hotel people and they came out immediately and had the parents take the lounge chairs out and reprimand their unruly and rude kids. The hotel management were perfect in their response. Those parents should never have been parents. Totally irresponsible.

Anyway, that little experience was nothing compared to the overall good time we had during the week. Upon check in, we forgot to call two weeks in advance to request a specific location, but they were still able to get us as close to the pool as possible. We will go back a third time next summer.

For a summer night stay in Palm Springs this place was great.  I was not super happy with how big it was and hot the weather was but the hotel was nice.  I found out when I got there that it was a time share property and I would never have guessed so many people like to golf enough to plan a trip to Palm Desert to stay for 7 days.  CRAZY!!!

No upgrades with status and room was fairly small.  Bed was super comfy and pool was huge.  The slide was perfect and they have free Wii in the maze club.

I would say great if you like golf but there are better Marriotts in Palm Springs if you are going for a night or two to relax.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  We gave in to the "listen to our 90-minute sales pitch in exchange for cheap lodgings for a weekend" deal.  The sales pitch was more than 90-minutes, but was actually informative and fairly pleasant.  A small buffet breakfast (not just coffee and water) would have made it better.  We didn't buy, mind you.

Facilities are quite nice.  Rooms were recently updated and nicely decorated, with perhaps a bit TOO much interior-decorator influence ... you know, where the carpet and the drapes and the throw pillows etc. all seem a little too perfectly matched.  I was expecting a suite, though, and we got a normal-hotel-sized studio room.  Beautiful views of the golf course and a nice variety of birds from every room.

Pool (and pool bar) was pleasant if a bit overpopulated with leathery sun-worshippers who didn't dare get wet.  I don't think kids would really be all that welcome here.

It was nice enough, especially at the discount rate which came out to ~$60/night I think, but not nice enough to buy a time share.

The golf course is beautiful; this review is of the hotel/timeshare complex.  My wife and I decided to get away for the weekend.  So, we booked a 1 bedroom villa and hit the road.  When we arrived, the front desk guy started talking all hush-hush in the middle of check-in.  I inquired about the room, and he said the hold up was that he was going to get us a great view in the new part.  He told me that the new room would be ready in a half hour.  It was only 3:00 so I said sure.  Come 4:00 we were ready to shower up or at least put the bags down.  When we checked back, the desk man said we are still getting ready.  So I said just get us any room.  Then, we got the true story... There were no rooms available.  He had made up the story about the upgraded room; the place did not have any clean rooms.

Around 5:00 we finally got our room.  The dust mites were so bad that I could hardly breathe that night.  And at 10:30, they said if do not leave right away, the dump starts charging $50 per hour.  I should have hit the econo lodge.

We came here for a long weekend getaway after succumbing to a cold-call months earlier inviting us here for a bargain-basement-come-check-us-out-and-hear-our-ti meshare-pitch weekend.

The setup here is villas that have the ability to "lock-off" the bedroom from the suite.  For some reason, they thought that we'd be pretty impressed cramming four of us into a single room locked off from the rest of the villa.  Well, I wasn't all that impressed.

The facilities were decent, if you're into the whole "let's drop a hotel and lots of grass and a golf course in the middle of the desert" sort of vibe.  It fascinates me that people think it's OK to plant sod in the middle of the desert and then use precious irrigated H20 to water the grass like four times a day to keep it lush.

The gym facilities were nice, and the pools were a big hit with the family.  The water temperature in the pools was wonderful and perfect for getting my almost 3 year old guy interested in swimming.  Fun water slide, and good kids rec center with an arcade, movie theater, and lots of kids activities.

Maybe would have given 4 stars if we hadn't been locked up in the locked off room.

The GF and I took my mom to this place for a little weekend getaway.  I asked the GF to find a place that had all the usual amenities and a golf course conveniently located from the hotel.  A quick search on http://hotels.com yields a ton of results in the area.  With us having to buy a can of baby formula twice a week, we were definitely on a tight budget.  This place fit the budget quite nicely, and they have a golf course on site so it was an easy choice.

We ended up in a 1 bedroom villa which had a nice balcony, a fireplace, a washer and dryer, and an excellent view of the 10th hole.  The pool area was only a couple hundred feet away and was conveniently located from our villa.  The pool area consists of two large pools which are fairly sized the same.  One side tailors to the older crowd and has a bar onsite.  The other side has a small waterpark area and a nice waterslide.  The pool are was well planned out and we enjoyed our time there.

The golf course, designed by Nick Faldo, was pretty challenging for a high handicapper like me.  I had a lot of fun playing that course and I can't wait to go back!  The back 9 is nicely laid out and for most of the holes, you end up with a nice gallery since they're located right along the villas.

I think it's safe to say we all had a good time there.  So good of a time that it looks like we may be going back in about two weeks but with her parents this time.  My only complaint about the place (and the reason it's -1 star) is that check-in time is 4pm and check-out is at 10am.

Great place to stay at for such a reasonable price.  Took a little weekend getaway and thought this place would be the perfect spot and indeed, it was!  The one bedroom villa was spacious and was absolutely fabulous.  It had an astonishing view of the mountains, golf course with the lake right below the balcony.

This place caters to all ages from a great golf course, quiet pool, and gym for the adults and shallow pools, waterslide, arcade and water park for the kids.  My 5 year-old little man had the absolute time of his life!  They also offer many activities but because our stay was short, we weren't able to check out the huge activity center called MAZE.  They have a kid's club in there, a full gym, a small movie theater, etc...  they even host contests there such as a Guitar Hero II contest during our stay.  I really wished we stayed a little longer.

I had such a wonderful and relaxing time..... and just the look  and excitement on my little man's face totally made my year.

I stayed at Shadow Ridge in May for our anniversary and I was very impressed with the resort.  I liked the gym facilities and pools were not too crowded.  I've stayed at resorts where the first order of bizness was to get your towel and set it down at the pool to reserve your spot.  Not so at least in early May.  The pool food is only mediocre and we found going to a grocery store or getting grub somewhere else is much better and its pretty easy to head to the pool with it.  If I were to stay again, its important to get a place near a pool so that you can walk.  I would have loved to test the GC but my wife wouldnt have appreciated the 5 hour hiatus for me to hit the links.  Its a place you can bring the buddies to golf for sure.
Overall, I liked the service, amenities and the town was really resourceful for any food, service, etc that you need.  I would def stay again.
