July 12-13, 2009, Napa Date Weekend with Boyfriend

A much needed impromptu Saturday weekend getaway that was booked at 10pm on the night before. Well, if you have to go, you have to go!!!!!!

LOCATION:  The hotel is located on the Highway 29 strip (Redwood exit) that will lead you to all the wonderful wineries in Napa and beyond (Rutherford, St. Helena, etc.) on short drive.

It is conveniently located across a mall where Trader Joe's, Target and other businesses are located.  A very convenient place for BF to buy swimming shorts and cutting board/knife for our cheese and picnic food.

AMBIANCE:  Marriott on the outside looks plain and square. However, inside is a different story: Spacious lobby with marble counters and an elegant enough lounge area with wood fireplace.  http://static4.px.yelp...

SWEET TOUCHES:  Cold lemon water jar in the lobby
Bowl of apples on the counter
Free wine tastings in the lobby (5:30pm-6:30pm)

BEDROOM:  We were given a bedroom by the pool with private patio.  It was nice to have a view of the pool but stil have enough privacy with the lawn and bushes separating the pool from the bedrooms. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

We got a king-size bed, very comfy with lots of pillows! http://www.yelp.com/bi... Room is clean, tasteful and very spacious with an empty refrigerator for your cheeses, wine, water, etc.  Flat TV, combination lock, coffee maker, iron/board, etc. I love how they thought to provide all the amenities you'll need and don't have to make a special request for!

BATHROOM:  Spotless, spacious with extra towels and hairdryer. Bath and Bodyworks toilettries.

POOL AND JACUZZI:  3 to 7 ft heated lighted outdoor pool and nice bubbly jacuzzi!   BF and I had the pool and jacuzzi to ourselves at 7 pm after wine tasting. We played, did few laps on the pool, jumped back and forth between the pool and the hot jacuzzi and ready for dinner by 9 pm. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

STAFF: Friendly all the way through.  Very polite and respectful. Happy to answer our every question.

RESTAURANT: On-site restaurants: Harvest Cafe and Character Bar and Grill. Very convenient after hours of wine tasting and swimming. Don't need to drive to get really good gourmet food! (Please read my review of Harvest Cafe.)

RECOMMEND:
1. Use your AAA card to get a discount when booking your hotel. Didn't even ask to see my AAA card.
2. If you book on Marriott's website you can request for early check-in, extra pillows and towels.

ROOM RATE:   Our room came up to $240 including tax and AAA discount.  (Regular $279 before tax.) because of the season we paid more than what others paid who scored a deal on Travelocity, etc. I think it was worth it. This trip will keep me going for at least another 6 months until I need another weekend getaway!

OVERALL: This is my second time at this hotel.  I stayed here last year during a girls' getaway with my girlfriends. We had such a great experience that I will stay at this Marriott again.  BF and I feel so relaxed. What one good weekend does to your mind, body and soul!!! And don't forget it does wonders to your relationship as well!!!!

I really don't know what I was thinking to expect when my friend had her bridal party staying here for our Spa weekend...

The rooms were nice, and amenities were exactly what I had in mind.  The actual hotel threw me off... outside, it looked pretty plain and the lobby was filled with mismatched furniture.  It looked like the catch-all for all of the left over furniture Marriott had incurred over the years in business.  We had a bunch of smokers with us, and every time we smoked outdoors during the daytime, no one seemed to mind... so we assumed it was fine, as long as we were a good 25 ft. from a doorway...

However, once night time came around, we were asked to relocate to several different areas.  The parking lot was off limits because patron's windows were out there.  Fine, we walked over to the courtyard where the pool was... but that was no bueno either, although we had smoked in both areas during the daytime.  There was no signage to designate us to any area except for the menacing frowns of the asshat hotel staff-members trying to herd us to the front entrance to the hotel.  Once we finally went to the "correct" area and finished up, we were frowned at upon re-entering, but it wasn't OUR FAULT that there were no signs whatsoever.

The complimentary wine tasting they offered around 5pm or so was "Meh." - They set down the used glasses by patrons on a tray beside the table where the server was pouring fresh glasses for people, so one of my friends accidentally picked up a used glass thinking it was pre-poured for whomever to come and pick up.  Thank goodness someone stopped her.  At least move those to the side w/ a sign to designate those were used glasses, or dispose of them properly.  Someone could have mistaken that easily.

Service was off, but the rooms were well equipped.  Loved the beds [comfy] and bedding.  I was lead to believe we had a room w/ 2 queen beds, but walking in - it looked like 2 fulls... that might have been a miscommunication on our planner's part, but it was fine by me.  I expected service to be a little better, but it seemed people there were discriminatory based on the fact that we were a younger crowd VS. the older adults.

I've stayed at many Marriotts and this one has to be one of the best. The facility is very nice (as Marriotts go) and the rooms are perfect for your stay in Napa Valley.

The hotel is centrally located next Hwy 29, which is the main drag into "wine country," and 5-minutes from downtown Napa. The host staff and concierge are very attentive and well educated on the surrounding area.

The room was clean and provided the basic amenities; flat-screen television, bath/shower, desk, comfy chair, etc. The hotel grounds consist of a bar, smoking/drinking patio, restaurant, spacious pool with jacuzzi, fitness center, conference rooms and business center.

When we tried to upgrade our room, the staff showed us a couple different rooms, unfortunately our current room proved to be better. As a result, the staff hooked us up with free "concierge" services, which include: access to the concierge room, a secluded "key card access" room that serves hot breakfast in the morning, appetizers and wine in the evening and dessert in the late evening.

I will definitely be staying here again when visiting Napa. Overall great hotel!

If you only need one night in the Napa Valley on a weekend (most places either two night minimums or want your firstborn as payment), this is the place to stay. Rooms are nice, spacious and comfortable.

You can choose packages which include breakfast, an in-room movie, etc. I chose the breakfast which, in the end, wasn't a huge savings, and we came at 10:30 for a buffet that ended at 11. Normally that's plenty of time for us to eat but because the omelete/waffle guy decided to bail early it took forever to get someone there to make anything really worth eating. So, stars off for the crappy breakfast service. And the wine pour when we came in was mediocre for being in Napa Valley.

Didn't try the spa due to the prior reviews of it being too pricey for what you get, decided to go to a smaller one down the street instead. But all in all, a nice place to stay especially for the price and the one-night allowance on weekends.

wonderful customer service. we arrived at 11:30am, knowing that our room wouldn't be ready yet. they promised to call when our room was avaiable. when it was, they called at 12pm! so sweet! we got to drop off our stuff and begin our day!

super thick and fluffy bath towels. ever so comfortable mattress and fluffy comforter. moderately sized flat screen tv. no dvd player, unfortunately. they have a cute little patio area for our 1st floor room.

can't wait to stay here again.

Standard hotel chain spot.

Cost to worth it ratio: 3 but depends on the time of year

Highlights:
- Location: just off the main road (29) and pretty close to wineries about 10 minutes up the road.
- Decent rooms: right size, big king bed with a gazillion pillows, flat screen tv
- Large pool and jacuzzi area
- Downstairs bar for hanging out in between meals and winery visits
- Lots of parking
- Friendly front desk staff

Lowlights:
- Price drastically varies: we've paid everything from $120-350 to stay here depending on if it was high season or not...

Not your Napa luxury nor bread and breakfast spot, but fits the bill for a decent place to crash while visiting Napa and we'll most likely be back.

The hotel is clean and in a central location in Napa. Keep in mind most places in Napa are quite pricey so this is a bit more "reasonable" for Napa. I went to Priceline and got a decent rate, still not "cheap" but closer to $149 (before taxes and fees) for a Saturday night when they were pretty much completely booked.

We got massages in the spa and the spa wasn't really all that great, I'm saying this as someone who has been to some pretty nice spas so it's not bad, just nothing to write home about. The massage therapists barely applied any pressure so considering they charge around $105 for 55 minutes I would go elsewhere in the future for spa services. If this review were for the spa alone it would be 2 stars.

There is a wine reception in the evenings but since I was participating in an athletic event the next day I did not partake. In that same area there was a fireplace. I hear they also have a fitness center and outdoor pool but I did not make it to either.

Bottom line is the bed was really comfy, the room was decently spacious, it was clean and I got a good night's sleep before a triathlon I had to get up early for the next morning. Would recommend to guests coming in from out of town that need a place to stay in Napa that isn't some tiny cheap hotel but that is reasonably priced (for Napa) and family friendly.

I rack up a decent amount of Marriott Rewards points, so naturally I would stay at Marriott for vacation.  The first time I was here when a college friend from the East Coast was visiting around March.  We managed to secure a one night stay plus a couple free tastings for $99 on travelzoo.  When we got there, they even upgraded us so we had access to the concierge lounge (free food and wine for a few hours everyday) because of Elite status, or whatever Marriott calls it.  We spent most of our night boozing, I mean, wine tasting, and flirting with some hot Air Force guys that were on a break for the week  The courtyard area is great just chill and sip wine while you chat.

I came here again a year later, with same friend, plus 2 more college friends.  No deal on the room this time, but I managed to redeem some rewards to help save cost of the room.  This time we they didn't upgrade us, but friend and I managed to sweet talk him into giving us access, even though this time our room was in that section of the hotel - no biggie).  This time we also discovered that the large hotel lobby had board games.  Since we were all tired and boozed from wine tasting that day, this was a perfect ending to our weekend, just playing board games at one of the loungey areas of the lobby.  I suppose we garnered some attention because we were a bit loud during our competitive but friendly game, but mostly the good kind - we were four girls after all.  Some guy wound up sharing a couple bottles of Cakebread with us.

I got my room on priceline for $100 ($120 after tax/fees).
I loved the king-sized bed w/all of the pillows. The bed was sooo comfortable (I thought it was a memory-foam, but I think it was just an extra mattress cushion). Flat screen TV & cable were nice. The check-out was at 12pm which helps when you just need to sleep in. They provide fluffy towels down by the Pool/hot tub, and there are nice chaise lounge chairs to relax in.
Our breakfast was good (I had a fritatta w/asparagus, tomatoes, and onions, yummy!), and all of the service was wonderful. Each staff member who we encountered was very helpful and friendly.

Nice clean hotel, very easy location, all the usual amenities you'd expect from a Marriott.

Check http://priceline.com, I got three nights at $90 per night on Superbowl Weekend.  For that rate, it's hard to do better.

This Marriott was in a great location for a trip in Napa. It was reasonably priced (got on Priceline for about$130). It was nice-not too janky, but not luxurious. Parking was kinda meh. They have a not too shabby free continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, bagels, eggs), wine pour/appetizers (vegetables & dip, cheese, crackers, fruit) in the middle of the day, and dessert at night in one of the lounges. All the employees were very friendly and nice.

My wife and I spent the weekend at the Napa Marriott. We checked in around 6pm and noticed there was a free wine tasting in front of their restaurant. We helped ourselves to a glass of Salmon Creek pinot noir and avoided the high class crowd and headed to our room (the wine was slightly sweet and buttery which I truly enjoyed). The room was spacious with a nice flat screen TV and king sized bed with many pillows. However, the room did give off an usual smell that only lingered in the corner. Needless to say, we stayed away from that corner and completely ignored it. We decided to stay in and order room service. Though expensive, the food was delicious. I ordered the organic chicken breast with demi-glace mushrooms and she ordered a seared salmon plate with assorted vegetables. We ended the meal with a sweet crème brulee.

Overall, this was a pleasant experience with the exception of that horrid smell in the corner. The property is beautiful and keeps you relaxed. Service was superb and they even shipped my wife's shoes after we left them in the closet. A convenient location off of Highway 29, you will not be disappointed at this property.

I booked this hotel (which is generally more on the expensive side) on an Escape Wine-and-Dine package. The rate description included dinner for 2, free wine and 3 wine house tastings. All this for ~200. I thought it was too good to be true and it was. Dinner was not included (or even a voucher given) even after I was told by central reservations that there was a "dine" portion in my rate. Hence, that's 1-star off, not really a big deal as their on-site restaurant was charging the same amount as Ad-Hoc on Valentines night.

We checked in promptly enough, staff was courteous but offered no solution to our above problem. Hotel was completely full, understandable since it is v-day, so our elite upgrades were not given. However, me and my friends room did have concierge lounge access. Room is a little old and worn out for a full service Marriott, but you do pay for the nice location. Bed was comfortable, a good amount of pillows and blankets and LCD TV. Bathroom had upgraded sink/countertop but everything was pretty much very common. As long as it is clean (and it was), I'm generally happy with the room.

We had the wine/snack reception in the lounge, pretty crowded and it was nice to have free wine, but the Salmon Creek was pretty close to undrinkable (its not an international property). They had some hot wings, chex mix, nuts. They have coffee and tea at anytime which is nice. We came back after dinner for dessert time which is advertised to be till 10:00pm. They had a remaining toffee bar that we shared and no hot water at 9:00pm. Took them to 9:45 after two calls to the front desk for some hot water.

Breakfast was buffet style which an admittedly good selection (for a US property). Eggs, oatmeal, cereal and milk and assorted fruits were out as were bagels, toast, peanut better, jam, butter and cranberry, apple and orange juices. Hard boiled eggs and yogurt also available.

Checked out just as efficiently as we checked in. Front desk lady (asian) is extremely nice and helpful, even throughout this very mediocre stay.

The carpets were clean. The bathroom was spacious and immaculate.  The flat screen TV -- well, it was big enough for me to watch without wearing my glasses.

If you're looking for a deal (we found ours on Travelocity), this might just be your place. It's right near downtown Napa, so you'll have easy wine country highway access, and you can traipse over to Whole Foods when you need a light meal (and truffle cheese) to balance out your hedonistic weekend of drinking and gorging.

Would have given 5 stars if their misleading Energy Star newfangled thermostat actually worked. Had to spend a frigid night before reverting to the old-school wall unit.

This place is more like a Motel 6 with flat screen tvs...

I SPECIFICALLY asked for a king sized bed during my 6 month reservation and 1 month confirmation.  When I got two doubles, i was snarled at and told there were simply no kings available.  After asking 5 TIMES, I finally got what I paid for and what I asked for.  The absolute WORST service imaginable (thanks to Sherri, however, for finally giving me what I paid for.)

Stay away.  Stay far, far away.

It may be ordinary from the outside, but I really enjoyed this hotel! Most likely it's an older hotel that has been renovated, but it has a great courtyard and outdoor pool area. Plus, there's a nightly wine hour, free (!), along with cheese/crackers or other snacks. A spa is located next door, which also accommodates the hotel's fitness center. The beds are comfy and the bath products are those great orange citrus Bath & Body ones!

The breakfast buffet was excellent, including an omelet bar and Belgian waffles. I like that the Marriott's still have vending machines. Just because you're willing to spend money on a room doesn't mean you don't still want a soda without ordering from room service!

Fridges in the room would be nice, but there weren't any. I do agree with another reviewer that the hallways are excessively long. Oh, and this was a first...I needed to use the hotel's computer/business space and had to pay for Internet use?!

The rooms are great here.  Very spacious and decent bathrooms.  I don't know what Marriott has done in the last few years but their beds have reaped the rewards.  Comfy mattresses and pillows and nice, soft, crisp linens.  All I ask for in a hotel room is a comfy bed and a decent shower.  You know?

This property also has a little pub, which is nice for an evening nightcap.  The pool is small but adequate.  There is a small spa attached too...I had a massage that was decent if not mind altering.

All in all, for the price this is a good deal.

This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at! Even having had Marriott as a previous employer, I am not biased on this one! I recently stayed at this place for a bachelorette party for my cousin. They have comfy beds, which I read were pillowtop on here and on the website, but I checked and the double beds we got weren't. But they were comfy nonetheless! They have down blankets and down pillows that are huge! It's like you're lying on a cloud! The rooms don't smell, which I'm used to at other hotels! The bathrooms come with Bath & Body products like shampoo, conditioner and lotion! They smell so good and citrusy! The only thing I didn't like was that the shower and vanity/ sink weren't separated! I shared the room with 2 other girls and I had to wait for them to shower and use the bathroom before I could! We got 2 rooms and were supposed to be adjoining, but there were no connecting doors.

All 6 of us girls had appt.'s at Amadeus Spa and we all loved our treatments! I got the Salt Glo in Grapeseed and the lady I got was wonderful! I felt so soft and smelled so good! It was very relaxing! Especially the shower! I love how they dim the lights, play relaxing music, and the sound of the waterfall! I actually took a nap in the waiting room. They have magazines for you, there's an outdoor patio, some citrus water, coffee, tea, and green apples. They have locker rooms with a jacuzzi, sauna, and showers. I wanted to lounge all day in my robe and slippers. I did not want to change at all and my day to end! The Salt Glo I got was $65 which is not bad at all and I tipped $10. I was happy and refreshed! Check out their website at http://www.spame.com

That night we went to the bar downstairs, which is okay, mostly an older crowd and not your typical dark bar. They have tables and a pool table where they serve appetizers and sandwiches and such. I like how they have complimentary popcorn that you can help yourselves to. The courtyard outside is also nice. We went back to our rooms and ordered coffee and dessert for room service and watched a movie. Other guests in the hall were quiet which was nice.

The next morning we woke up in time for the continental breakfast, but the concierge lounge was small and there were a ton of people. They didn't have a big selection of food and there weren't that many tables. We couldn't find a place to sit, so we opted for the Harvest Cafe instead. We paid, but the breakfast was much more filling and satisfying here. I got the Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream for about $8.95 and orange juice for about $2.95, which I was satisfied with.

Overall, this hotel is very clean and probably the best stay I've ever experienced! We got 2 garden rooms with 2 double beds for $279 per night each. The priciest I've ever paid for a hotel, but well worth it! I will never forget this bachelorette weekend!

So, I needed a room for one night during the peak season for Napa. I called all the fancy places back in July and got the big " two nights required for weekends".  But I only need a room for Sat. Good luck I was told more than once!
Then one day on my way back to the city, I see the sign for the Marriott. I give them a call to see if they have any rooms for just one night. Sure thing and it was only $319.00. This is cheap for Napa!. Anyway, my room was simple and clean. The complementary wine tasting was foul, but my comfy bed more than made up for it.
While I would stay here again in a bind, I would not recommend this place to people looking for a spa experience or a fancy Napa experience. The place was crawling with kids and not at all romantic!

For $250 (AAA rate) a nite, I wanted something much more perfect.

Instead, as I checked in, we asked if they might have a queen instead of two doubles. Our clerk looked unsure and then another worker behind him insisted that they were full up, and there were no queens available. The guy looked at me apologetically and said that they were "big fulls, like queens." This wasn't true.

But before we were done with him, I mentioned that I had a conference to attend the next day, and which room would it be in? The girl behind him heard me and looked at me sideways: "We have FORTY TWO conferences here tomorrow..." and acted like that was the reason that I'd never be told where to go. Fortunately, he was undeterred and gave me the room name.

But he told me the wrong time that it started, so we missed breakfast and pre-conference schmoozing.

The room indeed had two full beds, was merely utilitarian in that it was about a big as a kitchen. Again, for that price, you would want a room that felt opulent instead of claustrophobic.

We had a wonderful view of the school behind us and the sun came beating in regularly to toast up the place. The air conditioner was a wall unit, and not connected to a numerical thermostat, so we spent a lot of the two nights getting up and adjusting it so that we could sleep - it's too hot, it's too cold, it's too hot... Terrible - especially for the price.

I didn't eat in the restaurant, but the al fresco lunch during my conference was VERY nice, with a lot of well prepared vegetables, some beautifully cooked ahi, and some good desserts. Corporate food at its best.

So, would I ever go there again? No. During my entire stay, all I could think about was how much I could do with $500 if I'd stayed someplace cheaper. If the place had been worth it, it never would've entered my mind.

The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in.  Down pillows, comforter, pillow top bed, heaven!  Bath and Body bath products in the bathroom.
They have 2 restaurants, one sports bar, and one nicer one.  They also have room service.  There was a free wine tasting from 5:30-6:30.  We happened to be there at the time, they had a couple little snacks and 2 kinds of wine.  We did not check out the spa at the hotel because their prices were a little high, but it looked nice.
I definitely would not pay the $200-$400 that is advertised on their website, but I got our room on priceline and paid $60 plus tax, so I would definitely consider that a bargain.   Great access to the highway (where you get to all the wineries), Target and Cost Plus across the street and lots of nearby restaurants.  I would definitely stay there again.

After suffering through the cabins at Big Sur, checking into a Marriott felt like heaven on earth!

I was able to hook up my friends *bling bling* by using points for my room.  plus, I was able to enjoy all the platinum benefits since this place is a full service marriott (check-in gift of wine and cheese, concierge lounge access, the works!)

Fluffy beds, outdoor hot tub, what more can you ask for??

I have been to several conferences there and it is nice location.

There is wine tasting in the afternoon.

The staff is friendly and knows the Valley well.

If you are looking for a standard Marriott with a nice Marriott room, it will hit the mark.  If you are looking for that Romantic Getting and using the hotel to help in the "Getting In The Mood" you might you be disappointed.

But as a place to stay, great location and a clean Marriott Standard it get's 3.5 stars.

We checked in pretty late, but when we got there... the decor was very pleasant.  The bathroom was a typical size, I was disappointed that there was no mini fridge for the cheese I bought in Napa, but once I laid on the bed.. it was sheer heaven.  One of the best hotel beds I've ever slept on... & believe me... I've stayed at over a hand full of hotels within the last year.  The sheets were so soft, I couldn't believe they were one 300 thread count... I think mine at home were 600 thread count sheets & can't even compare to it.  It was such a pleasant sleep, I didn't even want to get out of bed & even considered buying a bed from them.

To top off this perfect experience, we received a breakfast buffet voucher at their Harvest Cafe & it was one of the best ever.  So much food & I wish I could have ate more.  From strawberry whipped cream waffles to personalized scrambled eggs to delicious eggs benedict w/ scrumptious bacon... the buffet was something I craved the next day... when I was home ='(.  Perfect end to a wonderful day of wine tasting!!!

Some good things and some bad things.

Good:
-Nice TV!
-Clean clean everywhere clean.
-Business trip = free
-Delicious hot popcorn in the hotel bar.  You should eat some every day.
-Wine tastings every night!
-Warm fireplace and lobby area. Lovely.
-Hot tub was pretty nice after those free wine tastings.

Bad (and the above far, far outweigh the below, but you should know even the little bad things, right?):
-The consierge and front desk need to get on the same page.  On two different occations, the front desk clerk would recommend a restaurant, and end with, "but check with the consierge, she will have more suggestions."  The consierge would hear our recommended eatery, stare at me appalled and ask, "Ick, who told you to go THERE?"  Um, your co-worker did.  A little odd.
-The "fresh, hot coffee" available every morning was always suspiciously gone when we got to the lobby.  I'm not talking "we got there at 11 and no more coffee!"  One morning we were there at 8:21, and the coffee bar had been stripped.  ANother, we were there at about 9, the coffee pots were still there, but empty, and when I asked if we could get more, they said, "of course!" and then no coffee ever came and we were pointed to a nearby Starbucks.
-Not in a great location at all.  I got the impression we were within walking distance of restaurants, shops, etc.--which I suppose tehcnically, it was, if you want to walk over the freeway overpass and through a strip mall.  But definitely not the picturesque "Napa-y" stroll we imagined.

Overall, I'd do it again (you're like, "um it was free, of course you'd do it again"--but seriously, it was pretty decently priced, or so I've heard ;) ).  Especially for business travelers and not wino-travelers, this is a great option.

I used to travel to Europe a lot, and at the time I always happened to stay at 4 star Marriott properties (in Denmark, Germany, etc). Very nice hotels, and of course, extremely expensive. Was fine by me- my company was paying everything... So I ended up getting a lot of points and thus became a Gold Member (hehe) of the Marriott Rewards programme.

Umm, I thought it would be a GREAT idea to visit the expensive Marriott Resort Suites hotel in Napa, and get supreme hospitality as a premier guest... and save a few bucks by staying for free using the jumbo load of points in my account. This is where the trouble was about to begin.

On both occasions the Marriott reservation agents made huge errors in my reservations! Or maybe the hotel management didn't do a good job in executing the reservations the way they were made? Who knows...

The first time, I specifically requested a garden room (NOT looking towards the huge parking lot); my girlfriend has allergies and I experienced mild asthma problems then... I asked for a second floor room, to make sure I stay away from any pollution. Also, we asked for a King, or Queen size bed in the worst case... The reservation personnel promised all that in a very servile polite manner. That worried me... I am the son of a musician so I can easily detect the fake. You know how sometimes, due to intuition, you get this tiny red light blinking somewhere in your mind, when something doesn't feel quite right?

Upon arrival, to our stupefaction, we were given a room on 1st floor, looking directly at the parking lot! The room had the heavy overwhelming aroma of old carpet, and the window was not of the open-able type... the only way to get some of the world-famous Napa Valley pure air was to switch the AC / Ventilation System mounted underneath the window. That system was noisy and had a heavy musty smell, just like the carpet. Also, the external vent that picked up air was at the same level as the exhausts of all gas-guzzling Ford "Explosion" & other Hill-Billy Monster Trucks that passed by the window with ferocious roar (like Elephant fart) & parked right outside; so generous amounts of fumes entered inside without any problem. In addition, did I mention that we didn't even get a Queen size- instead, we had to share a tiny double bed all night. At least we were into the slightly newer wing of the hotel (for premier Gold members), the other wing seemed really old and worn out. The only perk was the ability to use the Gold Member Room, where they served free appetizers (junk food), brewed coffee, free water (WOW) & some fruit that quickly disappeared.

But I don't get easily discouraged. Especially with a load points for free stays. I decided to give it a second chance.

The second time around, same thing happened with our reservation. I got mad & had an argument with the hotel manager. As a premier member, they made an exception! They put me into a garden room with queen size bed. Good! However, no room was available in the newer Gold Rewards wing, so they gave me a "nicer" room in the older wing.

Oh, MY GOD! Never seen a nastier, stuffier room in my life. If only I knew, I would have never accepted this! I can only describe this room's smell as a mixture of a male goat's beard, rotten Camembert cheese, spoiled eggs, 2-years old sneakers, and boy scout's socks that haven't been washed for 3 weeks. In addition, the room was non-smoking, but somehow beneath the goat & eggs smell I felt there was a hint of cigarette, too. I am very sensitive to such smell, that is how I was able to detect it, I am pretty sure about it!

Since we were on 1st floor, we could not leave the French Window open (afraid that somebody can easily enter during the night and surprise us cuddling on the bed in our PJ's...) so again we were forced to use the ventilation. That only enhanced & enriched the stench, instead of alleviating it. For 2 days of stay, my asthma symptoms worsened and started to really bother me again.

I guess we are very strong people, it takes A LOT to make us understand, but we FINALLY got the message! Unbelievable In the area with one of the best air quality and climates in the world, we were suffocating in this disgusting hole. So I swore in the name of my late father that I will never again make such a mistake...

How is Marriott able to sustain such a mediocre property in such a beautiful high-end area, and charge $200 to 400 dollars per night, for rooms that seriously endanger your pulmonary (and mental) health? Like selling crap by the kilogram and getting fantastic bucks for it! I guess they are true marketing geniuses that deserve my most sincere admiration. Or do they really?!

Currently I still got lots of remaining Gold Reward points in my Marriott Rewards account. Umm! Let me know if interested to get those as a present from me! :)

Very long hallways that are good for sprinting down at 11 in the evening. Don't try that race in the morning like I did. I came around the corner of the 2040 - 2099 rooms and almost knocked all the clean towels off the maid's cart.
