I have been to Marquee a couple of times, regular nights and for red carpet events.  I just don't get what all the hype is about.  I keep coming back thinking, "TONIGHT will be the night I get why people go crazy over this place."  It still hasn't happened.

I've never had a problem at the door and usually end up skipping the line, and I've never paid for a drink here, so I can't even say the over priced drinks is why I can't love this place.

I have yet to hear Hip-Hop here, usually I end up running back and forth between upstairs and downstairs to get away from the House music.  Not my scene at all.  The crowd here is indeed strange, usually about 70% are Europeans visiting the city.

Point being, there are better clubs in New York.  I understand some people probably want to go here just to say they went but really, you're not missing anything at all.

My friend had her 24th Barbie themed birthday party here and it was actually a lot of fun.

We had 4 or 5 tables, essentially one entire corner of the upstairs, and our cocktail waitress was great! Because so many tables had been booked for the party I didn't have to pay to get in, which was wonderful! The club was also really good about letting us bring in outside food, cupcakes, for the bday celebration.

The crowd was interesting. Quite a few Eastern Europeans it seemed.... some still seemed to believe they were still in Europe cause dude starts smoking a cig right next to me. Unless he was planning on paying for the dry cleaning for my vintage 80's prom dress that took me almost three months to find, that was just not going to fly. So I simply tapped him on his shoulder, pointed to the cig and shook my head. Thankfully he got the point.

Other than that and a few spilled drinks which landed directly on my strappy sandal clad feet (come on, really?) the night was a huge success. The liquor was flowing, thanks to my friends boyfriend and his friends, the music was hot and so were many of the men. All in all it was a great night!

Not sure I'd go back unless I was getting in/drinking for free, from what other people said it's a tad expensive, but it's definitely somewhere I'd go if I wasn't paying!

I like the music and that there's two rooms that allow you to switch off if you're not enjoying the music in one.

I had to give 3 stars because of the brunette bartender upstairs on Thursday nights. She will try to hustle you. She used top shelf liquor (Patron) in my tequila sunrise when I didn't even ask for it. And when I confronted her about it she had the audacity to say "if you don't want top shelf then you have to tell me when you order your drink." She is the dumbest bartender I've ever encountered... Beside her the place is great!

My favorite going out place in NYC besides Lotus (for totally different reasons). Spent NYE 2007 there and went on a few other occasions.  Always had a great time here, great music, dancing the night away, and you probably need bottle service (2 bottles 9 people? not bad BR). They pretty much leave celebrities (unless you are sitting on someone's coat and we want it back) and NFL (HAHA...OSU alumni in NFL we did not leave him alone. GO BLUE!).
I recommend this place if you just want to dance the night away to amazing music and want a guaranteed great time. I would go with a group, bfs, or girls night out. The bathrooms are great :) haha full service anything girls probably need or left home by accident.

The music here was just like the radio. I could have turned my car stereo on and would have been in better shape. It was also a little touristy. I liked the layout, but it was also a little bright inside. Good vibe though, lots of happy people.

Marquee, oh Marquee.  I like you a tad better than Cain.

Having had the most irritating experience at Cain, we bounced over to Marquee where our other friends were at.  Long lines filled with douche bag guys trying to get laid and trampy looking girls trying to play hard to get...oh boy, I was so excited to get in!

NOT.

Luckily we had friends who knew someone who knew someone (you know how that story goes) and literally in minutes we were in front and walking in.  Thanks friend of a friend! *high five*

I walked in and it's jammed pack.  I mean, what did I expect?  It was a Saturday night, right?  I walked upstairs to meet up with everyone and it was pandemonium everywhere.  Bathroom lines nearing the staircase, girls gyrating on boys, laughter, drinks being spilled, profanity being said.  Damnit, I need a drink!

So I go.

Did you know they add on 20% gratuity for every drink you order?

*jaw drop*

Here goes my first 1star... had a few tables with my Nascar peeps.. IVE never been to a club.. had tables... where the waitress was such a horrid excuse for representing! I loved this club until, my 2nd time there ... AND then I just cant shake it... NOR could we if we wanted to... it was overcrowded.. the restrooms were crowded and a mess.. BUT the waitress.. she just should take all the credit for this rating.. She let the bottles go .. the mixers would be gone.. we would want more service.. this girl was no where around.. and while the boys talked the biz.. one of us girls decided to ask her to restock.. she rolled her eyes.. and huffed off.. We ended up going to the bar and getting what we needed sent over.. by someone else.. Marquee=BIG giant Fail..

Overall I think the main stream NYC clubs are heavily overrated.  I've been to clubs in other cities in the world with no name that have twice as many 10's and a  party environment that is laid back yet glamorous.  Marquee's spotlight ran out years ago especially after tragedies it's experienced.  I like the layout of the place, but the crowd here has gone from glitz and glamor to mediocre.  Guys expect to get bottle service, you'll spend about 200+ a guy.  I recommend bringing a large group of friends here if you plan on having a good time.  The music is mixed, there's a main dance floor, a private bottle service room behind the main dance floor, and an upstairs bottle service room which is usually more popping.

If you're a local in NY and just wanna get laid by some NJ trash, then this is theeee spot!!! The venue itself is very classy, but the crowd here could be better.

I was making my way through the crowd when a friend of mine stopped to say hi, this jersey ho stepped to me and said "MOVE we're taking a photo" and I said "don't break the camera" I don't think she was able to process whatever I said to her, so she just backed off.  Silly hos... but again, an easy lay, you don't even need to buy these people drinks to get in their pants.

Marquee surprised me.

I went early on a Thursday, thinking it would be impossible to get in.  I actually ended up being the bouncer's first pick.  I chalked it up to them having a POC quota.  The music was on point.  I was loving the danceable old school R&B.  It's a nice venue, overall.

The only problem is the crowd.  Booorrriiinnggg.

I came here on a Saturday night and it was all about hip hop baby!!! We got there in at 11:30 and the dance floor was already filled.  With PCD blasting from the speakers, I was on the dance floor before I even had to go to the bar!   I completely fell in love with the DJ and wanted to take him home with me.  I found that the guys were older but my friends and I didn't care because the DJ had us dancing the entiiiiiiire night!

Want to dance with Italian or French tourists?  Come to Marquee!

The door can be difficult for some people.  Ladies usually don't have to many issues getting in, but it may be a different story for some men.  Make sure you come here looking fabulous.

I was here one night with a girlfriend when we witnessed the craziest/snootiest interaction between the doorman and a group of guys.  The doorman looked this group of guys up and down, and said, "It's not gonna happen, guys.  Not gonna happen."  And ushered them out of line.  Even when they offered him a $50 tip, he LITERALLY looked them up and down again, shook his head, and continued to usher them out of line.  Once again, make sure you come here looking fabulous.

The music here is decent.  Downstairs has always been techno/trance and hip-hop upstairs.  Its always crowded and the crowd is lively.  Everyone is always all up on each other, so if you're into that scene, go for it!

NEVER have I EVER paid so much for a drink in my life! I expected this place to be expensive so I opted to just get a one strong drink and be done with the bar for the night. I ordered a Long Island and it came out to $19 bucks. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Turns out the drink itself was $16 BUT they charged a 20% service fee... WTFREAK? Since when are you not allowed to tip as you please! Now with that price tag, you'd think the drink would taste good at least right? NO! The drink was disgusting. To say the least, that soured the beginning of my night. Thank goodness for good company and decent music or else my night would've been completely ruined. Club doesn't start getting crowded until closer to 1am and when it got crowded, it was a bit out of control, especially downstairs. Dance floor sucks downstairs since it's squared off with VIP tables and music is ridiculously loud.  And people really need to put on some deodorant because it smelled like BO so badly!! Upstairs is all hip hop and it was a bit more chill and empty so that was much better good. I definitely left the club with my ears ringing. UGH!

Reading over some of the reviews for Marquee, they all pretty much say the same thing.  Good music both upstairs (hip-hop) and downstairs (top hits), good service, and good atmosphere.  It is tough to get in if you're a guy, but it is easier if you're with a bunch of girls.

From my experience there, Marquee makes most of their money from selling tables. A table includes a liter bottle of liquor, ice, and unlimited mixers.  If you don't get a table, there is a $20 cover charge but that wasnt going to happen since i was with five other guys and two girls (on my friends bday).  By doing this, Marquee never got too packed to show your stuff on the dance floor.

Overall, it's a cool place but be prepared to spend some money if you're a guy.

I am reluctantly including this club my reviews, just like the bouncer pretends to reluctantly let cheesy people in. Marquee isn't quite the celebrity magnet is still claims to be. But that doesn't mean that you'll get in if you are just a group of guys. You still have to dress up and wait in line, bring girls and money. You can get around it by using a promoter, which is why I think Marquee, like all the other mega clubs nearby, confuse purchasing power with exclusivity.  Friday nights are supposed to be the best nights. Upstairs has hip hop and downstairs plays your garden-variety techno.

I'll do the clubbing thing once in a blue and tonight i actually went back to Marquee for the first time in like 3 years or something. My friend was throwing a party so we decided to check it out. The only reason i went was because his table was upstairs in the hiphop room and i was in the mood to dance. Took my homegirl with me, had about 3 drinks danced to the less than decent pop/hiphop music, and left. That place is whack. Not coming back.

It's a very diff experience if you're a youngin 17-21. It's fun, exciting and you don't really mind the crowd. Befriend promoters and it's skipping the line, no cover, and free drinks. Head elsewhere after..

we went on a Saturday night.  This place smells weird. Especially upstairs. but we stayed upstairs since our table was upstairs and music is better. but overall bad. My friend got mad since this stupid drunken guy grabbed her butt downstairs when we're just passing thru. I told her you should have slapped his face. What a mess. And guys are very aggresive.

Not a fan. Everytime someone mentions Marquee, we are like Noooo~~

I came here on a Tuesday with a group of friends and wow was the crowd different from my first experience! Both the downstairs and upstairs area were playing hip hip. (They played house downstairs the Saturday I was here.) Did I already mention the crowd was radically different? Total upgrade from the messes that were here on a Saturday.  Much better looking and fun! I love when I can just dance with my friends without being molested. I don't know if I can handle the weekday partying anymore, but I definitely wouldn't mind coming back here if I want to go clubbing on a Tuesday.

Take note: coat check charges for each individual item! They will not group your items together for you.

I think they were in the news for a police raid, because there were drugs being sold on premises... ok maybe not a big shocker for a new york club, but I just didn't really like the place much.

A bit like Hiro, we're talking overpriced and badly made drinks, music that is kinda iffy, and a lot of bridge and tunnel ie nightlife tourists...  If you're a chick, these places are great because you won't wait in line, you won't pay a cover, and you probably won't buy a single drink.  You'll also have tons of guys asking permission to kiss your pretty little toes.

This place is a small step above Duvet, a very small step.  The music is better, and the drinks are better.  But we're talking a very small step here people.

Fake guest list. There was no list. Just shove your way to the front and yell out the name of the promoter over and over, and then maybe they will notice you. The guy at the door, manning the velvet rope was a twat but lucky distracted by his brainless bouncers. The exclusive-ness this place tried to portray was a little ridiculous.

After we made it pass the mess out front, the girls and I was in party mode so everything was great. Bottom floor was dancing, a vodka tonic was 13 dollars, not much diversity in the crowd, but everyone seem to be enjoying themselves. There was a few tables trying to recruit people to seat in their booth. Sit down, drink their free booze, and dance on the booth with your pumps. That's how we did it. This was my first NYC clubbing experience. Good times, I suppose.

What a freakish joke. Starts with the ego maniac doorman. I was on list and didn't have to wait long, but I watched this guy reject people as if he was something else. His dress? Polyester duffell coat with dead squirrel fur lined hoodie. Pathetic. He looked like a terminally ill Hulk Hogan, only with the frame of E from Entourage.

Then you get inside this lavish, plush place (oh wait, I mean the direct opposite) to find a bunch of trashy Jersey/Long Island folks dancing on tables, holding up bottles of Stoli and pointing out to the crowd as if anyone cared.

Still not done. It smelled of vom and human deficiation in almost every corner. I'm 100% certain that 50% of the people in there ate bad Tex Mex before they arrived. There was a consistent stream of broken wind every, 5-10 minutes I'd say. Really pathetic.

Otherwise, I highly recommend you try this place just so you know to take it off your list of places to go. And go on a Saturday night so you'll have something to talk about at brunch the next day.

I'm guessing this place is hit or miss depending on the night. Went here on a Saturday night so I could finally be a drunk mess with my cousin - she's lived in NYC most of our lives so this was a rare opportunity to celebrate being in New York with her. I was expecting the line to be a little bit of a mess, but we got there pretty early at 11:30 and luckily the bouncers pulled us out of the line to get in. $20 cover yadda yadda yadda...isn't that how NYC is? Thank god we got in JUST BEFORE it started pouring.

The downstairs area reminds me a little bit of a smaller Vegas club. There are tables surrounding a middle dancing area and a giant disco ball overhead. It's like a mini version of Tryst! My favorite part of the place is definitely the UPSTAIRS lounge. Not only do they play better music, the bar is easier to get to, and there is a bathroom in the corner!

We spent the remainder of the night getting drunk on Bombay Sapphire and tonic (a new fave, even though I rarely drink gin), listening to LMFAO, and spying on all of the random bachelorette parties and hipster/model groups. Such a mixed crowd but it got way better around 1 AM and I had so much fun goofin' off at this club. There were people to watch, people to dance with, people to laugh at (a lof of those), and people to talk to. The crowd was pretty friendly but not to the point of being sexually harassed.

I'd go back to Marquee but I'd rather have table service and bring a lot of friends - otherwise it's just  a place to drop by to dance. There are way too many bachelorette parties and groups of female tourists from the Midwest and it gets a little annoying; again, it's like a mini-Vegas!

I didn't even know this place still existed. But I ended up here at 3am last weekend fairly torn up. I rolled in with some important people and I always enjoy when the doormen kiss you and act like they know you because they assume they SHOULD know you b/c of who you are with. It makes me feel important and it's fun to pretend.

If I wasn't out with my power players, I would probably hate this place big time. Typical all who you know. We were ushered inside, upstairs, given bottles of champagne. I had to go to the bathroom -- my friend whispered to a bouncer who immediately ushered me past the peons waiting in line. This would get a star if it was just me drunkenly ending up here at 3am, but I drunkenly ended up with some hotshot friends and it's not so bad. But please note -- the place was packed with bridge and tunnel acting like they were "balling" -- normally not my idea of a fun time.

The upstairs plays a decent mix of hip hop but attempting to steer clear of the coke heads is almost impossible.

It's easy enough to get in if your a girl, the bouncers are pretty sweet.

Drinks are average.......music is average.........crowd is average........you get the picture.

Ridiculously loud, bad music.

Horribly crowded dance floor, half taken up by VIP tables.

No space even at a VIP table.  Hordes of overly painted bimbos kept stepping all over me to sit on the backs of the couches instead of on the couches.  I actually suffered several bruises on my legs from their 5" heels -- through my jeans.  At least the boys were polite enough to turn around and apologize after stepping on my feet.

20% service charge included.

Servers sneaking extra dollar amounts on the bills because they know the clubbees are so blitzed they won't even know how they got home, much less notice the extra 60% added to the 20% service charge.

The lame Asian guy standing behind our couch who kept leaning over to break my eardrums with "Why you no dance?" every time hubby left my side to get something.

For some reason, I didn't get in for free.  Must have been my low-class jeans.

If it were a state, this place would be the capital of douche-akraine

The bouncers at the door are out of their bloody minds - being that if you don't "know" anyone they will charge girls in your party $20 to get in.

Despite the fact that i am pissed off about the cover everytime we go to this place - i must admit inside is a crowd-pleaser. They're always playing good music and drinks aren't necessarily more expensive than anywhere else in comparison.

DO NOT EVEN THINK OF GOING HERE.

I blacked out and collapsed in the club. Thankfully I was there with a friend. NOT ONE PERSON HELPED ME. I can't even express how messed up and scary that is. NOT ONE PERSON HELPED MY FRIEND PICK ME UP! He supposedly took me outside and while outside, the bouncers didn't help either. One of them apparently flagged down a cab to get me home so my friend didn't have to leave me, but that's it. WHAT JERKS. How can you just ignore the fact that someone collapsed in your club? What if I had a concussion or broke something??

$30 cover and this place sucked inside. Crappy music, pretty crappy people, and even worse service, clearly. $35 for two drinks is really out of hand. I am so angry about this garbage. The photos aren't accurate, either. It's pretty shitty inside.

I can't believe not ONE person helped my friend carry me or got someone that works there to help us.

I think someone had put something in my drink because two drinks would not do this to me. I woke up in the hospital today. Thanks, Marquee!

If I were you, I wouldn't fund garbage like this.

Extremely high on the douche-bag-o-meter. Translation: Lots of guido/B&T types slinking around the dance floor, fake tan and greasy hair, trying to pick up slutty drunk chicks.

I come here on Tuesdays often as I steer clear of the B&T crowd on weekends. The music is average at best on the lower level as I prefer to chill out on the banquettes on the upper floor.

I used to come here alot as my friends have collectively dropped enough money  to equate to a small country's GDP but I think the Marquee era (and the West Chelsea area in general) is a lame duck.

I do give it props for having a fun, raucous crowd and an interesting mix of people on some nights. I also saw Scarlett JOhnanssen here, drunk off her blond ass. F*cking money.

I only discovered all the "celebrity hype" about 20 minutes ago, and have been there a few times since the winter of 2006. Seeing as I have spent a decent amount of time in nightlife, I never even thought about the possibility of meeting some celebrities etc ...I guess it doesn't mean all that much to me.
Anyway, my friend Miss Guy is a host/promoter on wednesday nights there, so those are the nights I've been.
We mostly hung in the backroom on the occasions I've been there.
I dig some of the tunes...cool rocknroll, some dance type stuff, it's all good.
As for the door policy etc, again, I'm close with Guy, so I never had an issue getting in.
I'm guessing it helps to look "the part", whatever "the part" is at the givin moment.
I can't say I'd recommend it necessarily, but it does work for me.

We came to dance. The music was decent the crowd was alright. We came, we had enough, and we were about to leave. Then one of the girls in our group said she saw P. Diddy and she wanted to get a closer view. We knew it probably wasn't him. The club was dark and it was probably a mistake. Of course she was so convinced and she made us go back upstairs and check it out. UGH! So we hauled our butts back upstairs and some guy with his entourage were sitting on the couches. It looked like P. Diddy, but who can be sure. Then he got up and was escorted by a bouncer to the bathroom. That's when his huge bouncer stepped on my foot and I fell out of my shoe onto P. Diddy's shoulder. Yep. It was definitly him alright. He was very nice and helped me put my shoe back on and apologized. What a nice guy.

No originality.  The hiphop room also sucked. I should have known better.

So anyway we came in, I pushed my fat self through the crowd and got elbowed by some skinny skanks. Ironically, being black in this neighborhood was a hookup (I tend to experience the reverse in life) because the bouncers, although serious and full of 'tude, were totally sweet to me although I went up to them timid and tremulous of voice.

Rather than kick me to the curb, as I turned away, one said, all soft and on the DL, "Hey ... Push your way to the front. Dude right there will take care of you." And dude did. I didn't even have to tip or NUTHIN. GO CHOCOLATE LUV!

So inside, deadness. They were making peeps suffer out in the cold for no good reason but cruel hype. I get drinks immediately. They were poor and of course, not worth the money. I hear techno. I'm not having that. I take my friend upstairs. She's in her devil's red fuck me pumps. I am in my boob shirt. I'm feeling unattractive, haven't been out in a while.

I end up playing wingman. My girl's a China Doll she was getting hit on by the brother's left and right. They're bragging about graduating from Howard and Spellman and ladeedah, how they work in investment banking, bragging, bragging, bragging. Girl disappears with one, overwhelmed by the CHOCOLATE LUV. I shoo her away and stand there attempting to get drunk. I flirt with a gay black man - honestly I don't think I've ever met one in person before, he was quite charming.

My girl returns. She's over the CHOCOLATE LUV, the guy was too into himself. We attempt to dance. She's too wasted. She gets side swiped and seduced by more CHOCOLATE LUV. I go wandering, get lost in the sea of people downstairs. Somehow end up speaking French to three Frenchmen, none of whom are attractive, and wondering why the hell I'm in the middle of the techno dance floor with strangers. I rarely speak French, although I was once nearly fluent at it.

I turn. I see a gorgeous black diva who could be a tranny, dressed from head to toe in glittering silver sequins and spangles, her hair an upswept regalia of grandeur. She sits perched atop a balustrade, a beacon with her breasts at eye level on the dance floor. One of the Frenchmen is smitten. He is too shy to say naught to her. I approach, slip an arm around her, and gesture at the Frenchman. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, I say, cheerfully. YOU ARE CRAZY, she says to me, demure and grinning. THE FRENCHMAN WANTS YOU. WILL YOU HAVE HIM? She bats her lashes, turns to me graciously, shakes her head. NO THANK YOU. Her English is broken. She sounds Brazillian. I say, NO PROBLEM, BELLA, SHINE ON YOU GORGEOUS DIVA! She laughs, tossing her head back, gown shining.

I return to the drunk Frenchman. SHE DOESN'T WANT YOU, I shout into the technobedlam piteously. BUT YOU NEEDN'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER.  He makes a defeated, crumpling posture, shrugs it off, and we dance on.

Eventually I make my way back up and identify my drunken China Doll in red fuck me pumps. She's stricken, she thought I left her. We adjourn. We hurry out into the night, and by the time we get back to her place drunk and giggly, she has become my convert.

OH MY GOD MIRIAM. This is your first time to NYC and I was supposed to show YOU a good time. YOU ROCKED MY WORLD, OMG YOU ROCKED MY WORLD.

*fin*

Alas none of the above had anything to do with the music but everything to do with the alcohol and my fabulousness. this club? never again.

I think I genuinely do like Marquee. The space is large and there are two types of music playing (house - Americanized, and hip hop/top 40).

The downstairs space is quite big, but tables are arranged in such a way that the dance floor does feel a bit small. I think it does a good job. The dance floor upstairs (hip hop/top 40) always feels bigger but I don't think it is; there are a lot of tables. There is also a space in the back that they occasionally close up. I don't think they play any specific music there.

Drinks are ok but I've only had vodka tonics there and they didn't screw it up (run from the place that screws up a vodka tonics)

The crowd can be quite mixed but lately it tends to be very European. I think that almost everyone I've talked to there last time was either Spanish, Italian, or British. I think it's because of the recession.

Either way, I good place to party on Fri night.

Marquee is closed indefinately for "maintenance."  I was on the list for this past Saturday but no one bothered to tell us they werent open.

Keep that in mind and make sure you double check before you go bc they seem to be taking names even tho the doors are locked!

I'm torn.  If I had to wait in line, or was surveying the crowd, I probably would have rated this place differently.  On any normal night, I would probably pass.  No place is worth the cover, and this place is probably not worth the crowd.  It's packed, and there's nothing beautiful to look at - for those reasons, I'd stay away.

However, upstairs on a Friday night, hosts THE BEST DJ I have ever heard.  This man was a mixing genius.

Used to be a 5 star kind of place. It has lost its hype for me. Maybe I have changed maybe the place just started to be annoying.

Never really waited on a line here. Probably because the group always had a table. Champagne flowed and good times were had.

At some point the place started to be empty. Music started to be awful. Older crowds (like 50-60) started to join. Which would be great if we were at a underground kind of bar telling stories etc ...not trying so hard to fit in with wanna be celebrities.

The best time had here was dancing the mash potato with the bathroom door guy. True story. All the other hype is out the window.

$800-$900 for 2 bottles of champagne and some poorly served fruit. If thats your thing book a table now.
