Where do I begin with Marlin Lum ?!? He was our wedding photographer in October 2008, and travelled to Santa Barbara for our wedding with his assistant. Through the whole process he was accessible, easy going, and took our input into mind. There was not one single thing that he didn't do that we asked him to, which is amazing when planning a wedding you just know that there will be details that fall through the cracks, but not here.
The day of he put our minds at ease. He was punctual, and stuck to the time line. He got so many AMAZING shots of us, our wedding party, family and friends. We got some posed ones, but most are candid and natural. He was even open to us scouting out spots and putting it into the agenda. Even now, a year and a half later when I look at the collection of pictures, I am instantly transported back and often get choked up as I look at them, because they so accurately reflect our special day and who we are. Whenever people look at our pictures, and they are married they say, "I wish I had had a photographer as great as yours!" He really captured the moments, every single on of them.
He was very intent on having the "alone time" for pictures of just the two of us. In planning the wedding I was weary of this, thinking that I had to be with my guests the whole time. In actuality, the pictures he took during this time are so amazing and among our best. The time that we had alone was truly among my favorite of the day. Totally worth it. Guests can wait!
I will admit, that the price tag may seem a little high for some people. For us, we thought that the flowers will die, the dress goes in the closet, but the pictures we will have forever. And these, will surely be passed down through our family in the future. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!! There has not been one time that we have regretted our decision of using Marlin, he is truly the best wedding photographer out there. -

We finally decided we needed some pictures of our family. I get very wooden-like in front of a camera but Marlin put us both at ease. He managed to be unobtrusive and yet took incredible pictures of us. The pictures look natural and we even had the more formal, typical pictures of family and those came out too. I highly recommend Marlin!

Marlin Lum was my wedding photographer in July 2009 in Yountville, CA. He was AMAZING. From the first time I met with him, through the wedding day, through the details after the wedding Marlin has been a joy to work with. He is very professional, enthusiastic, amazingly hard working, and does excellent work. I have gotten so many compliments on our little photo slideshow he came out with just after the wedding. I cried when I saw it, he just brought out all the joy and beauty of that day. He is pretty pricey, but I think it is worth every penny because he really does great work. Also, I only recommend Marlin if you like good posed photos. If you don't want photographers bothering you on your wedding day, telling you how to pose, etc, or if you want more of a journalistic style, he might not be the right choice. I remember feeling like some of the photos seemed a little contrived, but remarkably they look really natural and tasteful. BTW, he was very respectful during the ceremony and wherever you decide you want to be "left alone." Get Marlin!
