7 reviews for Mark's Showplace
WARNING: This review contains numerous childish puns.
Apparently a titty-bar excited its owner enough to erect a music venue: Mark's Showplace. Once you penetrate the parking lot, you'll notice these clubs are abreast of one another. Although they share the same sugar-daddy, these clubs are entirely different venues, so one cover charge wont apply both ways.
My claustrophobia definitely kicked in here. Although Mark's performance club is large enough for pool tables, the ceilings were a bit low for me. I dented the shit out of the headstock on my instrument a number of times while performing.
It's New Hampshire so you can smoke 'em inside. People really took advantage and sucked 'em down hard, along with their cocktails. It was my first time at Mark's, yet we managed to really pack it in and blow them all...away.
Boobies.

First I would like to point out the Ego which lies in these bands. Look, don't be angry because you're not a national band. (it's no fun anyway)
I don't think you all understand what it actually takes to run a place. Laws are changing and it's not easy to manage people that don't have respect for the opportunities they have, even if it's just a place to go for the night. From what I've seen, the guy runs a tight ship, but that's why he's still in business at all. We must give credit where deserved, and as far as bands that don't enjoy playing there, don't complain, just choose to play somewhere else, if you're lucky enoug to get a gig.
Getting artists on the ticket is not easy. Many with a name that can draw a crowd, charge $15 - $20K just to show up. And promoters have the toughest job of all. Especially when people are writing "complaint" reviews. With a little adivce, and cooperation, this venue could really jump off. Instead of looking at the restrictions - look at the abilities. Take a new perspective - there is a place not being used. The guy who runs the place might be a dick, but then again, wouldn't you be too? He needs to report to an owner. Many of you just have to report to Mom that you'll be late coming home tonight.
Grow up - Man up - This is business - and Have fun when you can
Note they are now open at 12pm weekdays and serve a great lunch that is amazingly good for a bar.

A pay to play fascist shithole.
Here's a tip for promoters; when you get over the thrill of playing with the strip club or the Lyons Group's money learn how to run a fucking business. In other words, promote your fucking shows and stop making bands whore themselves out to play with some shit "national band" that can't draw.
Ohhhh Mark's Showplace. Half a strip club, half a live music venue. Your bouncers love to use women's faces to open doors, and they love to mace people for tripping over equipment wires that aren't properly taped down. Your bathroom floors are constantly covered in 1/8th inch of some unknown sticky substance. You do allow smoking inside, but you'll probably only get to enjoy one drink before you get kicked out. (Don't think that if you're in a band you'll be excluded from this policy.) After the show, you get to enjoy a desolate, dark and lonely drive down a country road littered with cops just waiting to bag you for a DUI. For the record, I don't even know if this place has shows anymore. If they do, that would be the shock of the century.
This place is lame. No need to get into complete details about. The staff are rude, the bathrooms are gross, the sound is sub-par, and the only national bands they have coming through are has beens.
Not to mention since the club owner is a dick, he'll disrespect all of the local bands and kiss up to all the nationals.
The only decent thing about this club is they have a strip bar on the side, which have some less than decent woman dancing for you.
Booo Mark's...

Pros:
It's the best place to have a metal show, and then after getting shitfaced, enjoying oneself at the strip joint. It's not too long of a drive from Boston, and I've seen many local and national bands play there-always a good time. Smokers can enjoy their ciggarette inside since it's NH and they pretty much do whatever the hell they want!
Cons:
No Bud Light. They also won't let you back to your car upon entering, can't bring a purse larger than a manilla envelope, drinks WAY too much at the strip club, and the pool room has only a few stools to sit on. I don't like how they search you, or look through your bag. It's NOT a huge concert area, so I don't see the need.
The only reason that I don't give them three stars for the list of CONS is because my friend's bands play there all the time, and I support the venues they go-as long as they're treated respectively.
