5 stars all the way for the Mark Twain. The rooms aren't huge, but come with great amenities (free wi-fi, DVD player, comfortable beds, great showers, Seattle's Best coffee). Free Starbuck's coffee in the lobby where you can peruse their extensive book selection. Also, 2 free drink tickets per person, not per room. The staff was extremely helpful and you don't need a car to go anywhere once you are there - the shuttle will take you anywhere within 5 (I think) miles.

If you're in Peoria for any reason, stay here if you can.

This place was beautiful.  I stayed here for one night and did not want to leave.  The room was beautiful, with a microwave and fridge and nice like office/desk area.  The products in the bathroom were all from Bath and Body works which was a nice suprise.  Additionally you get two free drink coupons, free breakfast, free passes to the health club and fresh baked cookies on Monday nights!

The hotels I have been staying in lately all want to charge amenity fees and and charge for the gym.  It was so refreshing to be in a nice hotel where everything and more is included.

The Mark Twain is a boutique hotel in Peoria Illinois. From the outside, the place doesn't look like much. Upon entering, you'll see a small library filled with the classics and a very welcoming staff. The rooms are cozy, free wi-fi, two free drink tickets for each stay, and the list goes on - read the other review.

The hotel isn't owned by a chain, so you can't earn points or a free stay. Need a place to stay in Peoria; this one almost makes four stars.

Don't be fooled by the outside of this place.  The inside is gorgeous.  The rooms are well-appointed (free internet!, free drink coupons), though I could have used a softer bed. And, by most urban standards, it's very cheap.

I'm staying at the Mark Twain this week for work. Its been very pleasant so far. They sent a shuttle to pick me up, I got in way late due to bad weather and was concerned but at 1:15am there was someone there ready to get me. The hotel is small enough that I assume they can easily manage it; not too big in terms of its footprint, and given the Peoria skyline moderately sized at 9 stories. I was pleased to be given cards for two free drinks for each night of my stay at the bar in the lobby operated by Pizzeria Uno Chicago.

I've been disappointed that the hotel doesn't have a pool or hot tub on-site, they provide a pass a sports complex call the Riverplex. Its located downtown but I wont have to time to trek out and figure it out.

My room is nice I have two double beds. There is a cheap desk by the window with a view that overlooks the river, however the room is a little short on free space. Here's my big beef, the toilet paper sucks, its 1 ply.

My room is comped for work and I haven't seen the hotels rates yet, but its obviously not your cheapo $99 a night downtown location. They've tried to build an interesting brand name calling themselves, "Peoria's premier boutique hotel," they've still got some room to improve.

One area where I am happy about is their complimentary breakfast. Everyone's been to hotels where the breakfast is a pile of pastry's and stale muffins. They've got a decent hot breakfast that is presented buffet style. In recent days its included scrambled eggs, from liquid, that tend to be a little too watery at the bottom of the pan. Hash browns, your standard sausage patty, and bacon. They've got a small selection of cereals, and one grade of milk. Also presented are bagels, yogurt and granola, along with bananas and some canned fruit. Its what you expect from a mid-ranged hotel.

I've been frustrated some by the volume of noise in the evenings, the windows are thin and the traffic from the freeway and downtown city life has kept me awake for a couple extra min. each night, my friend though mentioned that she hasn't noticed it at all. The thin windows also let in an amount of cold air that is noticeable when you are standing in close proximity to the window, or seated at the desk which is at the foot of the window. They've got the heat up enough in the room though that it doesn't make for a cold all around environment, and you can add more head with a space heater at the foot of the window.

I've left Peoria now and just re-read my review. The Mark Twain is really a 2 and half stars kind of place but I fees as though giving two stars would make it seem "travelodge-y" and its not. Its a nice hotel that just hasnt worked out all the kinks.

Peoria, Illinois is home to the world headquarters of Caterpillar, Inc.  It becomes obvious when you're waiting for your baggage at one of the two carousels at the Peoria airport and you notice that most of the other 20-plus (mostly men) folks from your flight have the CAT logo somewhere on their apparel or luggage. I'm here to visit Caterpillar too, but I will be hanging with the corporate legal department and I'm guessing they don't wear CAT logos.  The guys from the plane might be more fun to hang with, however.  Note: If Caterpillar security was in charge of Homeland Security, we'd all be safer but they would probably know what our underwear looks like - as we were wearing it.

Kitty-corner from the Caterpillar buildings is the Mark Twain Hotel, a nine-storey hotel built in 1967.

- Free high speed wireless or wired internet - although if you wish to be wired, you have to purchase an ethernet cord for $3 if you forgot to bring your own.
- Two comfy queen beds with duvet-covered comforters (hotel bedspreads are potential sources of unseen nastiness - at least duvet covers may be washed more frequently)
- Clean, well appointed rooms. Studio and Century rooms are 260 square feet and Deluxe rooms are 337 square feet.  A very comfortable leather club chair for reading and a good sized desk
- In-room DVD player with surround sound and movies that you can check-out
- Water pressure and hot water - great on the hot water and so-so on the water pressure.
- Excellent bath towels.
- No bathtub (at least in my Century room) :(  I LOVE taking post-work baths when I'm on the road.
- Room Service -  None until 11 a.m.
- Food - Free breakfast; an UNO Chicago Grill restaurant on site.  Definitely a chain but service is friendly and there are several non-artery clogging (read: other than pizza, pasta and fried things) on the menu.
- Two free drink coupons for each night of my stay (YEAH BABY!)
- Okay coffee for the in-room machine - although you only get one packet per day.
- Microwave & Refrigerator (I like to have fruit and stuff in my room on trips that are more than a few days)
- The hotel shuttle driver will take you to the closest store to purchase the aforementioned fruit and stuff, if he's not busy.
- Pets are welcome with a $50 deposit.

Edward M's right-on about the toilet paper - insubstantial.  I don't agree on the "I wanted to give it 2.5 stars but rounded up to 3".  For Peoria, I'd rate this a barely-a-four.
