Maybe I should have done a review when I have actually ate here but I did however go for happy hour and that deserves a review on its own.
Location: Fantastic
Drinks: $5 Margaritas! Yeah!
Service: Bartenders were quick and friendly.
Atmosphere: Awesome....and gazing out into the open ocean as the sun sets down while sipping (gulping) down a cold margarita was simply amazing.
Great place to chill with a couple of friends or a big group.
"Nice restaurant doesn't always = great service"
[First impression]
Pretty nice but a bit noisy.
We had every intention to have our 5 year anniversary dinner at Lido but, unfortunately, they were booked out for a wedding. There weren't a lot of fancy "nice" dinner restaurants in Pismo so we ended up at Marisol based on Yelp reviews. The food was mediocre-- the tartare was weird, the potato crusted salmon was not bad. We ask the waiter to suggest a local wine and he had absolutely zero personality.
[Suggestion]
*Book Lido at the Dolphin Bay in advance.
[Tips]
*Dessert- Skip it.
I would have given 4 stars, but the service is still lousy. Other than that, this restaurant has made a nice turn-around. They renovated the inside so that the bar area is more connected to the dining area and given the interior a nice face lift.
The menu changes are excellent! My husband and I shared a warm roasted tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich that was heavenly. Also the rocket (arugula) salad with pears was lovely.
We often bemoan the fact that with all the beautiful views along the coast, there are no good restaurants! Well, thanks to Marisol, this has changed for us. We'll definitely go back.
PS Husband was pretty ipsyched at the great bar set-up for watching sports. A bank of flat screens above the bar -- you can go cross eyed watching all your teams!
It was pretty good. We had the breakfast buffet. We had the omlet which they made right in front of you. Had 2 $10 off coupons so it was a steal for the area. I looked at the menu at our hotel, looked good but really pricey.
Their potatoes were way below average (unappetizing pictures under pictures)
The french toast and omelet were okay
And the smoked salmon bagel was good
It would have been okay if it wasn't for those potatoes
This menu is expansive, but I would steer clear of the fancy stuff. We had the duck tomales, fish tacos and filet mignon grilled and our dinner was pretty nice. The wine by the glass, while expensive, was very drinkable (hola, Domain Alfred!!). Also, the service was nice too....considering at one point we were the only couple in the restaurant at 8 pm on a Saturday night.
Now, usually I'm not a stickler for ambiance, but this place is pretty much your hotel restaurant...not much in the way of decoration, you feel like you are eating in....wait for it..... a hotel!!! Anyway, enough of the sarcasm, the food was above average. I would recommend the fish tacos if you don't want to break the bank...the filet, while good, was heavily sauced and pretty $$'s.
Had lunch at Marisol on a Friday.
Food: Duck tamales were great. Tapas plate was just so so, but the dates stuffed with bleu cheese were pretty good. The sweet potato fries sounded better than they were.
Service: Our server was a little lax. 15 minutes to retrieve our wine. Unacceptable.
Ambiance: Nice view. The only really redeeming feature of this place.
Expensive for what it is. I would eat somewhere else next time.
Hmm.. so I came here on a saturday night for my friends birthday dinner. The restaurant was not crowded at all, but the bar looking like it was hopping! The service was mediocre and the food was expensive.. (like all restaurants attached to resorts..) It was not what I would call Mexican food, it was sort of a new age sea food type of place. The fish tacos were good with slices of granny smith apples mixed in it. Good if you are in a pinch to find a place to eat, the views of the water were okay, but the menu was slightly pricey.
We ended up getting fondu for the table which was okay as well. Nothing great...
I spent much of Saturday evening here with several friends and had a great time! The location and view are unbeatable... the service was superb... and the food and drinks were absolutely wonderful.
I sampled several offerings and highly recommend the fish tacos!!! They were the most unique tacos I have ever tasted and are now officially my favorite. The macaroni and cheese with a crispy bacon garnish was impressive, too.
One of the best chicken club sandwiches I've ever had! I ordered it last night through room service at the resort. Warm ciabbata bread, huge piece of grilled chicken breast, cheese, bacon, sun-dried tomato mayo... it was fantastic. Not your traditional club sandwich. The chicken was so juicy - I wish I could cook chicken breast like that. I don't know what other seasoning were on it, but I want that recipe.
Tasty fries came with - but they forgot the ketchup. That's OK. I was stuffed from the sandwich.
Live music from inside that is also broadcast out to the pool area. A large patio for the diners who like to eat under the stars. Can't beat the unobstructed ocean view.
Along with my room came a free breakfast buffet voucher at the restaurant. Bacon, sausage, some thing that looked like grits, roasted potatoes, a table full of croissants and breads, fruit, and a make your own omelet bar. OK, it's not really make your own, but you chose everything you want and the cook makes it for you. So good.
Very friendly service. Coffee was piping hot and waiting for me at my table by the time I came back from the buffet.

I only found this restaurant because of yelp.mobile. Thanks Yelp, I owe you one. The restaurant lives up to the hype.
The property is stunning overlooking Pismo Beach and all its glory. One side is the bar filled with happy hour goers and the other is the indoor and outdoor patio of the restaurant.
I started with their Gran Marnier marinated pear, arugula salad. It didn't disappoint. Delicious.
For my dinner I had their salmon on top of Heirloom tomatoes. I can honestly say it was amazing! The tomatoes were so good I almost forgot to eat the salmon, but when I ate the salmon is was yummy. Back to the tomatoes, gosh they were perfect!
Though the deserts looked great I showed a little restraint and passed. If they had an Heirloom sorbet I would have jumped on it.

How hard do you want to work to get a meal?
I visited Marisol on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend. We sat at a table on the patio, next to a group of four 20 somethings who were eating.
As the waitress visited the table of 20 somethings (talking with them at length), we were sure she would get to us next. Not to be. After waiting for service for about 30 minutes (we had beers from the bar, so it was easy to talk and pass time while waiting) we caught the attention of a bussboy, and explained to him that we would like to order. He told us he would get someone to take our order.
Well, another 15-20 minutes passed without having a server come by.
At that point it was about 9:30pm, we left.
If this joint wants to consider itself a real restaurant, it might want to train the staff about things like service!

Just stayed here for the weekend (and got engaged!!) and got the "Breakfast and Bed" package. We only used one of the 2 vouchers, since the Sunday seafood brunch was super highly recommended... by the waffle guy and waitstaff!
Our first breakfast was great, though I wasn't expecting it to be buffet style (their computers were down that day). They had the usual bfast items, but it actually tasted good and not too greasy. The highlight was their made to order omelette and belgian waffle bar. Both were excellent!
Our second morning we waited a bit to have the Seafood Brunch. A little pricey, but completely worth it. Definitely go there hungry! They had TONS of shellfish - clams, oysters, king crab legs - some mexican style foods, the omelette and waffle bar, and a prime rib and pork loin roast. And don' get me started on the dessert table. It was stock full of everything chocolate, lemon tarts, cheesecakes, and even fruits. It looked more like a breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet than just a brunch. Mimosa's weren't too bad either.
What topped it off was the service. When we first arrived for brunch, it was sunny and beautiful. We requested to sit outside and had the deck to ourselves for a while. Then the wind kicked in, and the waiter kindly offered us a window seat inside. The waitstaff overall was really nice all weekend.
I would definitely go back for the view and the service, and of course the mounds and mounds of food!
we left our room approx. at 730. got drinks at the bar and made our way to the restaurant. tell me why it took almost 20 minutes to get our appetizers? wth? we ordered OYSTERS on a HALF SHELL!!! we proceeded to eat our oysters, they weren't bad. we waited another 35 minutes for our entree. we shared a seafood risotto aka their "paella". It was too spicy that i couldn't enjoy the actual flavor of the seafood. i hate that. then, we ordered dessert. don't ask why.. we just ordered ice cream... FREAKING ICE CREAM.. you scoop it out and put it in a dish... we waited about 20 minutes for that.
our whole meal took a little over 2 hours. BUT i did witness a couple get engaged. YAY.
needless to say, on our next visit we are probably skipping the restaurant and sticking to the bar. they were having all the fun. flat screen tvs, sportscenter... beer.

We have been staying here for a few days for the New Year's Eve celebration, had the special dinner that night which was great! So we again had dinner this evening on the 2nd - the first night of the San Luis Obispo (SLO) County "Restaurant Month" - 30 days, 3 courses, 30 dollars. We decided to write about it - what a find. One of many restaurants participating, Marisol is an out of the way establishment at the Cliffs Resort in Shell Beach, actually a separate building from the hotel. But you're in for a surprise if you go next door from the bar. We really like this restaurant, despite the slowness in the kitchen (quality takes time?) and its rural locale so far away from culinary civilization. Chef Gregg Wangard is a ringer - formerly of Ocean and Vine in Santa Monica and a Wisconsin Cheese Chef Ambassador (!), he has hidden himself here on the central coast to take advantage of the local fresh ingredients and surprise the unwary tourist with a delectable assortment of tastes and treats. With Katie Osberg, his knowledgeable, charming and unassuming manager and local wine expert, the pairings this evening with the three-course prix fixe were from local wineries and perfect for the palate. She spent a lot of time explaining to us where the wines were sourced, and her knowledge of the area was impressive and helpful. Both Gregg and Katie made it an epic meal for us this evening, our second for this week, and it was worth writing about tonight. I encourage everyone to make a stop here even if your're not staying at the Cliffs (and why not?).

this place would be great if it was just a bar but it's a two-in-one. fancy restaurant on one size, resort bar on the other. the bar service is slow and sloppy (b/c they need but didn't invest in busers) but the staff is friendly and helpful. the views - well they're amazing but the drinks are nothing remarkable.
the restaurant next door is equally "all right" the food was not 5 star quality but was still solid. i had a lobster bisque which tasted average but salty and on the thick side (which i think is b/c it sat all night in a hot vat before being served.) my rib-eye was again average. i think i've just become spoiled by the Lodge's and Morton's cajun rubbed rib-eye. - ummmm. the wine though was right on. we enjoyed a great syrah by the glass and all in all the meal was enjoyable but not over the top.

this place is awesome... they have really stepped up and shown fusion dining with a spanish flair, they have a new chef and new manager that has made a huge diffrence in the way this place is presented. the 2 notable dishes are the duck tamales and adriatic figs stuffed with gorgonzola and candied brown sugar really really good.....try this place it is really really good the wait staff is well versed and will take care of you.... oh and 1 more thing the veal short ribs are to die for....
