10 reviews for Marisa's Mexican Seafood Grill
Siete Mares!
It was a cold night one night and all I wanted was some good hearty soup that did not come from a can. On a whim I called this place because it was somewhat close by, and at the employees suggestion, ordered the Siete Mares (Seven Seas) soup. I have to say, it was Amazing!!!...not only because the soup itself was good, but because the seafood was fresh! The shrimp was sweet, and the mussels were tender and not pungent or fishy in the slightest.
The soup was a tomato base soup that had: crab, shrimp, fish, clams, mussels, calamari, and I believe small slices of octopus...which were also sweet and tender!
For those who like ciopinno, this is the Mexican version. And it is great. I haven't tried anything else from this restaurant, but I would definitely recommend this soup, as it is a sure bet for a delicious and satisfying meal. The downside is that the soup is a little pricey, around $14 bucks, so be prepared to spend!
On a side note, I ordered the soup take-out, so if you don't feel like eating out, you can also eat in!
We were unsure about a place that was empty on a hot Sunday afternoon but the menu + fine service made us feel much better about our post-beach day choice.
First, those chips must have crack in them because I dream about them night and day. I had the Seven Seas soup. OMG it was awesome - even though it was too spicy for my mild taste. DH had the bacon-wrapped shrimp with coconut-pineapple sauce and we were surprised by its inventive and multi-layered flavor.
Took away one star because things were not cooked perfectly and perfection is a difficult thing to achieve. Still, my hat's off to the chef and we will see you again soon!
fresh, fresh, fresh. pleasantly surprised considering the empty parking lot which mom taught me always is a sign of a no-go. i took the risk, hosting a group of weary travelers and initially was put-off by the campy fiesta-themed decor and slightly high prices (average entree ~$15) but was immediately quelled by the overfilled baskets of homemade chips and salsa and the buckets of firehouse beer that grace your table despite ordering just one. kind of a beer buffet, if you will - if you want seconds, just reach in. i choose the seafood "stuffed" fish - it wasn't stuffed, rather baked in foil with a salty broth, shrimp, octopus, peppers, onions, and oaxacan cheese. the octopus was the most tender i have ever had. truly. delicious. served with tortillas, a citrus salad, rice, and beans - it certainly lived up to its price tag. you'll definitely be seeing at least my car in the lot again.
The best part about Marisas are the chips and salsa! The salsa is the best i have ever had. The food is great too, they have really great steamed mussels and oyster cocktail.
Another great thing about Marisas is that it is usually vacant on a saturday night and they stay open until 11 pm.
Nearly everything tasted exceptional! The chips & salsa, rice and beans, salad and the octopus w/garlic butter. I didn't particularly enjoy the shrimp w/garlic butter, though. The service was very attentive and quick, and the decor was pretty inviting. We did wonder why it wasn't very busy at 5pm on a Saturday.
I love this place! It's great Mexican seafood close to home. I usually order the Diablo Shrimp. Which is "runny-nose" good. Very spicy, the way I like it. I have tried several things on the menu and have been please with everything. Like the other reviews, the chips and salsa are yummy. I always seem to kill the basket before my food arrives. The servers are friendly, especially Linda. It is not very busy and stays open late for dinner. They just started serving breakfast too. The restaurant doesn't get very busy. So its a relaxing dining environment.
I loved this place. It was prefect. Great atmosphere, average priced drinks, good food. My boyfriend and I ordered 4-5 beers, Sevens Seas Soup, and a Octopus platter. It was just under $50. This has become a new favorite. However, I was suprised that the place was pretty empty on a Saturday night....
This is actually a 4.5 review.
We've eaten here a few times and the food is outstanding. It is good, fresh seafood. It's very well flavored and sometimes very buttery. The pre-dinner chips and salsa is better than your average mexican restaurant.
The staff is very nice and quick. They have a yummy, full bar and I guess they now have several flat screen tv's in the bar area. Not sure what they are showing on the tv. The atmosphere is bright and spunky.
I only had to knock it down a .5 point because we wanted to order take-out tonight and the online menu is only in spanish. This is not true in the restaurant though.
I had never been to Imperial Beach despite nearing 3.5 years as a San Diego resident. Sad. I know. I picked Marisa's as a dinner spot / reason to explore IB. I am honestly torn as to how to review this place. Yes, the chips and salsa are awesome. I had the molcajete de mariscos appetizer with green sauce. There was so much lime juice in it that my tongue was raw after 10 bites. I shared the Bistec Ranchero for an entree. It was ok. Nothing memorable, though. I would probably give them another try if I lived closer, though. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was fun.
Wow, what a surprise in IB!! I was down hanging with some friends and we decided to get some food, so drove past Marisa's and decided to stop. We were a little worred since it was a bit empty, but realized that during winter IB is always empty! Don't let that stop you though, this is a MUST EAT! If you love seafood their food was fresh and tasty! They give you a lot for the money too! I ordered a shrimp plate with some ranchero sauce, I thought I'd get just a couple of shrimp, it was just loaded!! They have so many choices too, it's unbelieveable! They have your regular mexican favorites, plus all the seafood combinations you could ever think of. Even if your no where near the IB area, I think it's worth the drive south, this place needs some action, so tell your friends to head on down! If IB would turn into the next OB, this would be the best hangout, they have a great bar, beer and wine only, but it still rocks, they make this wicked margarita too! Well that's my 2 cents, I'm taking the family down there on sunday!!
