Update: I went in a few weeks ago, and I had an entirely better experience, great food, still a bit slow, but I didn't mind, and everything was generally rocking. There are better italian places in Rochester, and for the cost, I think they could still have better food. I would go back if someone else suggested it :)

I hate to be the guy to write this review, but my girlfriend and I went here for her bday, and while the food was excellent, the service from the front door until we left was terrible.

We had 7:30 reservations, and showed up a few minutes early, and they said it would be a few minutes. I used to work in a restaurant, so I understand that reservations do get you ahead of walk-ins, but don't expect to be seated the minute I get there. Well a few minutes turned into 8:15. We went up and asked what was going on with our table and they hosted seemed surprised we were still waiting. OK, no problem, although we were freaking starving, mistakes/problems happen.

So we get seated at probably the worst table in the restaurant, with a really loud table right above us, who keep staring at us. Our waitress comes over, a bit rude when I comment on how long our reservation took. We place our drink order, they come in a decent amount of time, and we order dinner. Our salads come out like 15 minutes after we order, then our dinners come like 2 minutes later, no apology from our waitress or anything. Then we don't see our waitress, I mean she doesn't acknowledge us for over 30 minutes. She looked pretty busy like she had 10 tables or something.

So finally she comes over after visiting every other table she had, and offers us dessert, then takes about 10 minutes to bring the dessert tray over. We get our dessert, and it's awesome, but took forever to come. Getting the check and paying was an event also. All in all over 2 hours to eat 2 salads, 2 entrees, and a dessert.

I'm a huge fan of the food here, but they really dropped the ball on the service here. Who knows if I'll be back anytime soon.

I cc'd this to the address on thier website and they sent me a $30 dollar gift cert... I'll respond here and let ya know how it went.

upon picking up the tab for about 120$ for 2 people including apps, deserts, and drinks. I really wished it was an excellent experience, but in reality the food just didn't measure up. I don't know if we just didn't order the right dishes or its just not excuted well. The apps were not fresh and blend, steaks are over cooked, and the deserts are fairly good at best. Would come here again, especially for the price they are charging.

I am in Rochester every month and search for places to take my customers. This is the BEST overall Italian place in Rochester. There are always better food elsewhere based on your palate, but this is one the the best ones. The service is outstanding and the wait staff is the best. I have never had a bad meal there. Great steaks and fish. Wine list is one of the best also. It can be expensive, but if you watch what you order it is reasonable. Also, very easy to get to. Highly recommend this place.

oh no no no.  Please if you want good  italian food try Mr. Dominics.  Marios is just really heavy pasta and sauces.  I've never had a delicious meal here.  You'll leave feeling stuffed rather than satisfied.

Mario's is overhyped.

This was the first restaurant we checked out when we came to Rochester and it was pretty decent.  I'm rating it 4 stars based on the food and the service combined. There was a group of 10 of us and our waiter was GREAT.  Foodwise - it was decent....I've had better Italian food for the price. There was however a appetizer sampler type dish that we got and that was pretty delicious!

I would like to be able to give Mario's two different scores here...but we all know that is not possible.
This restaurant is constantly being sold as Rochester's best Italian.  I can't really say I agree with this however.  There are superior Italian places around town this is just the most convenient.
The dinner here is is a little expensive for the taste, the quality not being far superior to an ordinary Italian place.  However, the service is always good and the food is never of questionable quality.
Where Mario's really wins is the Sunday Brunch.  They have such a wide variety and everything is of fantastic quality compared to other brunches around town.
The Brunch easily gets 5 stars but this is first and foremost a dinner place so I'm gona have to give it 4.

I am not a big Mario's fan.  Much better Italian to be had in Rochester and much better dining experiences if you want good Italian with good atmosphere.  Food is ok - I once had the rib eye which was very greasy.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but the whole vibe this place gives off never rang my bell.  Sometimes feel like I am in a large chain restaurant or catering hall.

Decided to try Sunday brunch, even though it may be the most expensive brunch in the Roc.  Brunch is buffet style and for $21.95/pp you would expect a decent spread.  At first glance, there truly was a great selection.  Everything from pasta to eggs.. mussels to a chocolate fountain (more on that later).  There was no raw bar, but I didn't really expect it and it's not really my thing for brunch.  At any rate, they had your typical breakfast, along with crab cakes, steamed mussels, and a carving station with at least 5 different proteins.  The girlfriend reported the best Eggs Benedict she has ever eaten.  My favorite part of brunch is, of course, the desserts.  As I would come to expect from an Italian restaurant, the dessert table was the  most extensive I have ever seen (a few too many canolis, but I'm not complaining).  Included is a chocolate fountain and a selection of fruits you can dip.  This is a great idea, save for the kids (who just think it's cool and spend the entire brunch huddled around it like the cotton candy machine at a carnival).

This is not a champagne brunch, but mimosas are served starting around noon.  Bring your appetite there is plenty of food and you are not rushed.. make reservations as brunch is quite popular.  4 stars for being the best brunch in Rochester, but not the best by far.  Come here for brunch, but skip dinner.

I'm a big fan of the Sunday Brunch spread, there is something for everyone and it's all good. They offer made-to-order omelettes, waffles, eggs benedict, antipasto, pasta, prime rib, salmon, chicken specialties, even some great selections for kids.

And don't forget dessert - every type of Italian sweet there is plus a chocolate and caramel fountain with a fruit assortment for dipping.

All this for $25!

One of the best restaurants in Rochester!  My favorite is their prime rib steak and seafood pasta.  You can even reserve tables online.  http://www.mariosviaab...  which kicks a$$.

The food is very good but what makes it worth the price is the atmosphere.  If you want to set the stage for a special occasion Mario's will deliver.

Went here a few times during the holidays.  Large, spacious place with very attentive staff.  The food is consistently high quality although a little pricey.  The experience here is always very good.

one of rochester's better higher end italian restaurant.  my high school senior banquet was held here.  the food is good, waitstaff attentive, and ambience reasonably nice.  the restaurant floor can be rented out as a large banquet hall that's a great venue for large parties.
