I hate how the ball rolls on greens here. Maybe b/c this place is built on a soggy marsh, idk. So you know what I do? I take 18 strokes off my score each time. So, if I shoot a 38, really i shot a 20.
Good views. Usually crowded. Some holes are a bit cramped and have thin fairways. Lots of decent bunkers. Also the course has lights, so you can play in the evening/night.
Golden Gate Park is a better par 27 course, but this one is pretty good (harder imo, even though less yardage).
I wouldn't park near the first hole. Last time I teed off, my ball hooked hard left and cleared the net by a good 15 feet...
This is a great after work leisurely course by the bay if you're looking for something other than Golden Gate Park for a 9-hole. I came here on a friday evening and the weather was perfect. I loved how you could hear the water while you play. We had no tee time and zero wait and the staff is super quick and friendly. They have a great lil bar/clubhouse and a pro shop. I walked past the driving range and it looked great too. My ONLY beef is that the fairway is super narrow so balls came flying around us pretty frequently. There were even times where people had to play on our fairways which was odd. The good thing is that I didn't have to use my driver on a par 3 which I usually do being a weak woman and all. The course is much easier than others I've seen. Great for afterwork cause lights are on til 10.
I'll be back!

It was a beautiful Thursday evening around 67 degrees so I decided to kill some time and get some exercise.
I've only been playing golf ever since August 2008. As an avid self taught golf addict, I've only frequented a hand full of courses and ranges in the bay area. The guys in the office are super friendly and polite to answer any questions. The guys in the golf mart give good suggestions without pressure sales. You can even demo as many clubs and/or drivers you want by leaving a credit card during the time you try them out. No hassles whatsoever. They open late 'til 10pm every day.
Clean and well kept, the driving range is one of the best I've seen. You can choose from two levels for any kind of play preferences. I prefer the upper deck so you can see where the ball lands. But beware if you go when the sun goes down because the range is dimly lit. The first level is great for rainy days since the golf course opens year round. If you purchase a pre-paid range card, you get 10% extra balls. $20 is the minimum without perks, but if you buy $50 worth, they give you an extra $5 to add for free, and $100 gets you $115.
I'm always scared to play the 9-hole here ever since I parked my car in the parking lot close to the front entrance. One day a few months ago, I saw a group of teens playing the first hole. I was watching from the parking lot while taking my clubs out of my trunk. The guy looked like a beginner, not dressed in proper shoes, but he hit a stray ball, it went over the fence, and *BAM* the ball dropped on this Black BMW M3 Coupe. I was just two car spaces away. I immediately jumped in my car and re-parked my car into a space along the park walkway far away from the courses.
**Player and Parker Beware**
Other than that, I always have a pleasant play and am never disappointed unless there's people talking to each other in the next stall while I'm concentrating on striking the ball.

it finally happened.
my hubby (or maybe for love of my hubby) and his golf addiction finally rubbed off on me and i have started this infuriating hitting-of-a-little-white ball-business.
so this review is for you ladies.
to very few people's knowledge, mariner's has a well-groomed, very friendly, and SHORT 9-hole par 3 course available for practice. it is super affordable, each hole is about 100 yards long, and if you are a uber beginner like me, it's a great way to just get out on a course and swinggggggg. another great perk is that it stays open late and has flood lights, so you can play up to 10pm, even on weekdays! (last tee time is 8:30pm)
special thanks to the staff, who let us roll in a little late of our tee time, and is casual enough to let five of us tee off at once!
i will be back.
and i will hit a birdie. (not an actual bird)
A really great place to learn how to play golf. It's a pretty and easy par 3 course with lots of sloping hills that will help you out with good bounces when you slice it. The driving range is nice too. Well maintained but a little pricey (12-16 bucks). The staff could use some courtesy lessons, but I guess they're used to dealing with a lot of teenagers so they're a little curt.
Overall: Worth playing for the view and breeze off the bay. Expect slow play as it's flush with beginners.
An excellent place to practice your iron game on grass. The driving range is well lit and open till 9 pm on all days which is perfect because I can go after work on most days. There is a nice 9-hole (all Par 3) too. Don't be fooled by the short holes (the longest is ~160 yards). The wind can really make it hard to get GIR, particularly on holes 5,6 and 7. The greens are in great condition and pretty challenging with subtle variations.
Overall, I would have given a 5-star if the short practice area were better and it was not so windy, especially in the evenings. A solid 4-star though.

It is all about the view with this driving range. You can see the bay and the San Mateo Bridge. I felt somewhat out of place here as a young woman walking up to the driving range where tons of men with what seems like tons time on their hands shooting balls out to nowhere. But I held my head high and hit my balls outward.
The way it is set up is you can pay in cash at the machine or get a members card for various prices. I got the cheapest of $20, then you can just recharge it when you get low. My thing is to always get the $7 smallest basket of balls to hit. That way I stay long enough to have fun and look at the view.
I used to come here every weekend for lessons when I was younger. This place is great for people who are just getting into the swing of things, if you know what I mean. I never needed to use my driver at this course because all 9 holes are par 3's (I think the longest hold is around 160 yards) so if you're an adult you should be good with just your irons.
I love the putting green and the driving range. There's also a chipping area if you want to work on your short game. The restaurant on site always hooked us up with the best root beer floats :) Mariner's is very family-friendly and I've had some of the best golfing memories here.

I've started to fall in love with this place. It's great because I can play at night. And playing late on a Sunday night, you're virtually the only people on the course...which is awesome. Of course, don't get any ideas...pick another night to go! ;-)
I've only been twice now, but it's such a great tool for me to work on my short game. I'm having issues with chipping and putting, so this is a more "fun" way to do it than going to a chipping or putting green. It also helps me with my accuracy on 4-9 irons...trying to get it on the green, closer to the pin, etc. It's a great way to hone in on those goals.
I saw on their website where they have a 10-play special - $125 (something like that). It looks like I'm heading towards that direction. This may become a weekly - or bi-monthly - occasion for me. Their driving range is good as well...but it costs more to practice on grass...which kinda sucks. I hate practicing on turf. They do have a chipping area as well - most driving ranges don't offer that...so that's a plus. Overall, it's a great facility to have so close to the city.
Love this place good for short game practice since it is a short short 9 hole and beginner friendly. All you need is your pitch to 7 iron with putter and you good to go. Only draw back is that it does get windy out there making it more challenging. Oh and they got a bar too for post game drinks.
For right now, this review is going to be about the driving range. I'll be sure to update it later when I get the chance to play through the 9 holes here.
Cooped up in the office all day, I decided to take a trip to the driving range here. I always keep my clubs handy in the back of my car. (Note: not a good idea to do so, you can mess up your clubs [rolling around, breaking, warping, etc] - but I'm lazy haha). I get to Mariner's point at around noon and pay for a small bucket. You also have to bring/purchase your own rubber tee for the mats here. Not sure how much you got to pay to hit off the grass though.
Decent facility, nice sweeping views of the San Mateo bridge along with the city looming in the distance. Definitely a great break from work. Next time, I think I'll be taking a longer lunch to play through the 9 holes.
Great place for beginners like me. I like how they offer something for everyone here.
Not thrilled about their new range ball rates (basically they give you even less balls than before when paying cash), but they did replace the range balls and install a second range ball vendor on the upper floor. Mats are above average, and grass tees is a nice option. They're definitely encouraging repeat customers by offering tiered bonuses on the range cards.
I don't know of where else can you play 9-holes in the dark! It ranges from 90 to 160 yards, but is lighted by skylights after sunset. Fairways and greens are decently kept and drained, but the wind can be hellacious at times (just watch the windsurfers on the bay). Pace can be slow (2+ hours) during peak hours. Will call out groups for next tees off, which is nice since it can be heard all the way to the range.
This is a good course to practice short games for beginners and juniors. $16 green fees; $6 first 30 mins for short game practice +$1 every 15 mins thereafter.
UPDATE 4/26/08: The golf mart is pretty cool! They let you demo REAL clubs (just turn in your ID and CC as "deposit") that you can actually TRY out at the range! For my first demo, I tried both a stiff vs regular graphite shaft Taylormade Burner Rescue 19 degrees (3-Hybrid) and found out which one was better for me. Made me feel like a high-handicapper tester on Golf Digest's Hot List panel.

Stopped by to warm up before going to Poplar Creek Golf Course on day. This was spur of the moment as I got off of work early and happend to have my clubs in the trunk.
I set a tee time at Poplar Creek Golf Course and they directed me to Mariners Point. I have always seen this driving range but never really gave it any thought.
Balls are in good condition and I love trying to sink a ball in one of the nets at 120yds or less.
I also noticed a nice looking chipping area and 9 hole course.

If you're going to play the par3 9-hole course here, do it before the afternoon because the wind seems to pick up then. The course is pretty good and easy to play. Great for beginners. Not too many hazards and overall it is maintained pretty well.
The folks in the pro shop are pretty nice. You can demo clubs there too, just be sure to bring a credit card and drivers license with you. Then you can demo them on the mats at their driving range.
Their driving range also gives the option of practicing on grass (as opposed to mats), but it will cost you a little bit more for this. Tell the peeps that you want to drive some balls off the grass, and they'll give you a special basket for your range balls. Also FYI, if it matters to any of you, they have a camera set up that watches this area of the driving range. Note that they also frown upon people sharing these 'special baskets'.
Finally, if you're hungry, don't be fooled by the "Bar & Grill" sign. It's more of a bar with simple snacks. A hotdog will run you $3. They have chili dogs, nachos, and stuff like that. If you want their meatball sandwich, that will cost you $5. Nothing spectacular about the food... consider saving these extra few bucks for a 'special basket' instead.
Cute little short par 9 course. The view is absolutely beautiful. It's always pretty windy there though. Got on a tee time right away on a Saturday which was nice. The thing I dont like about this course though is that the fairways are very close to each other so one wrong move and your ball ends up on the fairway next to you and you have to intrude on someone's game to take your shot.
Best driving range in town...the hottest golfers I've ever seen..need i say more? A++ ha ha jk
All jokes aside, i love this driving range, the view of the San Mateo bridge is absolutely gorgeous, especially when the sun sets. I also love the fact that they close late, it's more convenient for me to go with my friends right after happy hour =)

The Mariners Point Golf Links is just south of San Francisco, in Foster City, California. Mariners Point Golf Links and Practice Center is the newest addition to the 9 hole courses in the Northern California Bay Area.
Only months old, it is already a popular site. It is located in Foster City, a narrow little strip that has come into its own over the past few years. The first thing you notice upon entering the course is the large sign stating--No Metal Spikes Allowed on Facility.
The pro shop is nicely stocked but no one in the facility would have enough time to talk to you about any of the clubs because they are too busy running in and out the door to get people off the tee. The way the building is situated, they can't keep track of the players.
The bar and grill are nice, maybe a little too nice for basic hackers. There is olive oil on the tables for bread dipping and an exquisite list of wines and brew pub beers. Unfortunately there isn't any basic fare like hot dogs that don't come without sprouts, sun dried tomatoes and their version of mayonnaise.
As for the course, all you need are three clubs in your bag. Take a putter, a pitching wedge and a middle iron. The yardages range from 66 to 160 yards with a total of 1,134 yards, if all the tees are back.
Some of the holes are a little tricky. Number 4 has sand bunkers to the front and deep hollows in the back. Number 8 was a pretty little green surrounded in the front by huge sand bunkers with a grass island in the center. The whole course takes about an hour and ten minutes to play. Not bad if you want to take in a leisure nine holes and work on your short game.
The practice facility is a good one. Golfers have the option of using grass mats or real grass. The driving area is setup with sand bunkers and greens with flags. The nice thing is there aren't any yardage markers. It also gets people use to determining yardage by what they see instead of looking for markers--which holds up the game.
Visit Mariners Point and enjoy the sites. Flights into San Francisco International Airport fly overhead, The San Mateo Bridge can be viewed while using the practice facility and the golf course sits right on the bay. Take the kids and enjoy a day out in the sunshine. Fees are $16 for 9 holes. $7 for 60 driving range balls. Beware of windy days. No golf carts.

The best driving range ever with water front views.
I used to be the guy who hit over net until they installed a new $20,000 net. (Too bad...)
I used to live in Foster City and go here ALL the time.
I'd still stop by whenever I drive by Foster City to hit some balls.

Five stars for location. They are right on the water, next to a huge park, and in a surprisingly undeveloped area. You can see the San Mateo Bridge. Beautiful, calming.
The driving range has two levels. Watch out for at least one cat who's not afraid of golf balls.

Two words describe this place: COLD and WINDY. It's a convenient driving range if you live in the San Mateo/FC/RWC area but the times I have been there have been so windy and cold because it's right at the edge of the Bay. One thing I don't like about this place is that the wind affects your ball's direction and distance so that can mislead you in terms of how you are hitting.
Bottom line: If I have to. Haven't tried the real course.

Night golf. It either means you're high at the time and golf seems like a FANTASTIC idea at 9 pm, or it means you're sadly obsessed with the game. I am of the latter group.
The range itself is good enough in theory... grass/mat option, two-tiered and lit. But the grass tees are really chopped up and the facility never gives them sufficient time to grow back. So for an extra 4 bucks you are sometimes hitting out of divots. But again, it is one of the few ranges with the grass option, and chopping out of divots can be good practice! They recently seem to have improved the quality of their balls, so this definitely has made a huge difference. Later in the evening, the relatively weak lighting makes seeing your ball after 170 yards quite difficult, though. Sounds good at impact? That's as good as its going to get. But I suppose since its one of the few lit ranges around, can't complain.
The on-site Golf Mart is actually really nice.... huge selection of new/used/demo clubs, with really reasonable prices. The staff even lets you hit ANY of their racked clubs, so it is definitely a nice place to go when you want to compare clubs before you buy. This is somewhat of a catch-22, since everyone demos the clubs, making it difficult to find a new stick that hasn't been hit on the range. Not a big deal though.... the staff will gladly order in clubs for you from their main store in San Bruno, or you can just buy online at 3balls, TGW, golfsmith, edwin watts, etc....
The uber-short par-3 course isn't half bad, given what it is. It is short, simple and the layout isn't half bad given the amount of space. The tee boxes could be a bit less sandy, but otherwise they're fine. The lights are pretty much useless, though. If you get a decently high trajectory with your irons, there is no way you're seeing that little guy.

Nice range with both mats and off-the-grass options. They get 4 stars for having a fun par-3 course that you can play in the evenings thanks to pretty decent lighting. Expect to still lose some balls as the wind howls in the afternoon/evening. Also, a helmet of some sort is advised due to holes being packed together...
TIP - do not park to the left of Hole #1. Park by the entrance and walk.
There's also a good golf shop here, but limited food options.

For those of you who don't know, it is warranted to warn players of a stray golf ball by yelling FORE ! ! !
Come on, people.
I know that is a small course and a couple of the holes run parallel to each other. But it's just plain irresponsible not warn someone of an imminent missile attack.
Overall, the course should help with the short game.
FORE ! ! !
Now was that so hard?

I drive from the city to hit balls here. All the driving ranges in the city suck ass. I like this place because you can hit off grass and not that dirty mat crap. The 9 hole here is pretty good too. Its a good course to practice your short game. For a longer and nicer 9 hole check out Fleming at Harding Park. Sorry to those golfers my noob friends have hit. If you see a tall, skinny chinese guy with glasses runaway. Its not me because I am a short, fat female that wears contacts. But that skinny guy can hit you even if you are standing behind him. He is notorious for running back to the tee box because he tends to forget his clubs. Noobs.

1 star for the nice location
1 star for the 2 level driving range
1 star for the old man who helped me w/ my swing
1 star for easy parking
I don't think the balls here are all that great and the mats pretty worn out.
A 9-hole par 3 golf course with narrow fairways. A great place to force yourself to hit straight, if that's even a possibility. It gets quite windy even in the early afternoon, so you have to compensate for that in your game. I agree with other reviewers that the view is quite spectacular, especially on sunny days as you can see the kite surfers on the Bay.
There is two level driving range and a chipping green. You have to pay to use the chipping green. The only down side with the driving range is selecting a good spot that's not in the wind tunnel. Otherwise, half the time, you're just battling to concentrate with the wind blowing against your back.
Personally, I think this is a great place to work on your short game...
They have a 2-tier driving range... and a grass area to tee off.
They have a multi-function short game area to work on all your fundamentals...
The 9-hole course is small and definitely challenges you to hit the ball straight... IF you don't ... yell "FORE" because it may be going in to the next hole....
I love the location and also enjoy that the course and range are open till 10pm... and yes I have played this late...
Its right next to the bay and you get some nice views during the day...
Price is fair: $11 for 105 balls, $16 for 9 holes (Go to http://Golfnow.com for discounted pricing)
Wishes for improvement:
-better golf balls at range
-grass tees need to be grown out
-The wind is crazy here sometimes
If you haven't been here... make some time to stop by...
enough said...
I have been going here on and off for over a year. They have a very small 9 hole course.. all par 3's... good to practice on and the course is in decent shape. I think it costs 16 bucks but you can find discounts on the internet.
The driving range has both grass and matted tees to chose from. It can get a little windy.
Overall, i like this place. i enjoy the staff. I have never had a drink in the bar. It seems like some people do go in there. They also have a Golf Mart store on the property which i really like.
I will go back..
The links are a ton of fun if you want to hit a bucket of balls, play a quick 9, and/or practice your chipping and putting... the greens are a total mess, so putting is really hard, but you can't beat only having to carry your 6, wedge's, and putter, and a case of beer or wine coolers for refreshments between holes.... the little bar is cozy for a chill friday evening after you whack a a few balls...
it is however, a little chilly at times, and you ahve to look out for the novice's on the course - they often don't yell "FORE" and their balls tend to fly into other fairways... I've had a few near misses with my skull in the past couple years!!!

This golf facility has something for everyone. A par 3 course, full golf shop with a good demo program, putting green and 2 level mat tees. A separate grass tee area and short game pitching area can be used for additional fees. The range ball prices are higher than other facilities.
It's often windy in the afternoons because it's right by the bay.
Really close drive from the city to hit some golf balls at the driving range at night. They also have a pretty decent 9-hole course which is nicely lit, so you can comfortably play a game at night. The price is super-cheap too ($14/person last time I checked). Only place I can think of in the BayArea where you can play a decent game of 9 holes at night. Their driving range has nets and other "targets" so you can practice your accuracy as well.

Conveniently located on the water for a nice break from the office. Great for a quick round on the driving range to make sure the stroke is on point.
Took my co-worker, a Swiss guy, to the range for his first time ever. He loved the idea of "golf" so much he came back the next day to play here at the 9 hole course. Swiss guy quotes, "Aye guyy that was greattt!"
I really like this range. It is a double decker range with another area for hitting directly off of the grass. The range is well maintained with quality range balls and well kept mats.
The pro shop is a actually a fully stocked Golf Mart location that allows you to pick up some tees, balls, or even a new wedge should 'ol trusty start frustrating you in the middle of a large bucket of balls.
There's a 9 hole executive course adjacent to the range for those looking for a "pitch and putt" course.
This really is one of the best practice facilities in the bay area.
I used to go here a lot for the driving range, but it sucks and so does the course. Every time I've been I have almost been hit by a ball. All you here is FORE!, FORE!. Ridiculous.
Kudos to Mariner's Point Golf Course and Driving Range. There is nothing quite like you in the Bay Area (at least to my knowledge) and I appreciate the hell out of you for that.
Mariner's Point is in Foster City I believe, right by the San Mateo Bridge. It's about a 2 minute drive from 101 at the third street exit. The driving range is way above par, with two levels, relatively affordable balls ($11 for over 100 balls), and grass tees for an extra fee. Good work there. There is also a short game practice area. Good work there. This place sets the gold standard for practice facilities though in two areas: It's open until 10pm...and they have a short 9 hole course that is LIT (!) at night and open until 10 pm as well. So damn fun. Sure the course isn't that exciting, but come on! I work down in Palo Alto one day a week, and I often bring my clubs in my car, just so I can swing by Mariner's around 7 or 7:30, hit a bucket of balls, and then play 9 holes. How cool is that?
The downsides? Not many. It gets cold and it is windy. That's all i can think of. Just wish this was closer by 10 minutes to SF. Nice work on this place. I will continue to be a regular. And kudos to Jay H. for pointing this place out to me with his always stellar reviews of bay area golf facilities. Seriously yelpers, if you want to ge the low down on anything golf related in the Bay, hit up Jay's reviews. The man is more or less spot on every time (though I have much more love than he does for the presidio I believe...don't know why I love that course, but I can't get enough of it.).

I haven't tried the 9 hole, but do noticed kids loitering there and occasionally pick up unused balls in the field (ones that are within 3M of the driving stalls).
This place offers both the driving mats and on-the-field driving stalls (more $$$). The on-the-field one is not covered. I think it has 12+ covered stalls and the matted driving stalls have two levels.
I don't really like the obstacles/pins layout of the driving range.
The people who work there are friendly and they give Foster City residents discounts on the range (extra $$$ on the range card).
This is a great place to hit balls, especially with wind & sun on your back...
Good for lessons & even buying clubs because you can get out on the course immediately.
BTW, the bar has a fun Monday night football happy-hour! Also fun to watch the kite surfers nearby on the bay.
I had a blast working with Ron Sagara for my first lesson. He's awesome and I can't wait to start taking classes. It's so beautiful there on the water while the planes come in overhead. Perfect!
