9 reviews for Marina International Hotel & Bungalows
I needed a quick simple hotel for an overnight business stay in Marina and the International was perfect. Yes, as reviews indicate, it's not the newest place around. But it was clean, super friendly staff, and the bungalow was awesome.
Definitely spend a few more bucks on a bungalow. Mine was huge, clean, nicely appointed, very functional. It was especially nice to have easy private access from the underground parking - literally one minute from car to door.
I would for sure book this hotel again.
We stayed here for a wedding recently. They're only getting a star for their location - the boat where the wedding was held was just across the street.
When we booked our room the receptionist asked if we wanted a courtyard view or city view - she said the courtyard view is much more private and quiet - we wouldn't hear any traffic noise. It didn't really matter to us as we live in Chicago and our apartment window looks out onto a 4 lane road. We picked the courtyard view anyway. Hands down, this was the LOUDEST room we have ever stayed in. Our "courtyard view" was, in reality, an "elevator / parking lot view". It had the acoustics of a steel box. The hallway outside our door was made of tile (one of the only areas in the hotel that wasn't carpeted) and every time a housekeeping cart rolled by or someone got off the elevator it was deafening. The thin walls and ceilings amplified what sounded like tango lessons in the room above us. And to add to the cacophony, the head of our bed was along the wall adjacent to a metal side door that led to the parking garage. Whenever it was opened and shut the walls literally SHOOK. The headboard actually banged against the wall. My wife and I woke up laughing once. Was this for real? If a foreign dictator books a room at this hotel, or say, Hitler's grandson is in town: GIVE THEM THIS ROOM. I defy anyone to get any sleep after 5am.
Adding to the charm of the "courtyard view" the view off our patio overlooked an empty parking lot where a group of homeless folks made camp. On our second day, we awoke to police and sirens and screeching tires. Multiple cops, guns drawn, approached the hobo junction, shouting at them to put their hands on their heads. Another homeless gentleman on a bike, bleeding from the head, patiently awaited medical treatment from the EMTs. I reunited with one of the homeless ladies on the day of the wedding. I was waiting in the front of the hotel with some of the other groomsmen when she excited the hotel lobby, (was she a guest there?) shouting obscenities and demanding that I shave ("you're not a &*%$#'ing GOAT).
When we made the reservation, we decided we should stay an extra day as we'd likely be out late after the wedding and terribly hungover (we were). Blinds drawn, pillows over our heads to muffle the constant construction going on next door, we tried to get a little extra sack-time. We were, sadly, denied. Our hotel room door was opened (no knock) by housekeeping who wanted to know if we were checking out. Bolting upright, I said, "No - we checkout tomorrow." (long pause) "Okay - you call front desk, yes?" I blearily rolled over and hit "0". Our plan to stay another day was a mystery to them. I tried to explain to the receptionist that that's what we signed up for. She said she'd have to call me back in 5 minutes. So I sat in bed, the headboard periodically shaking back and forth, and waited. When she finally called back she explained that they would have to make a separate reservation for us (at the same rate, thankfully) and we'd need to come to the front desk to sign the paperwork. Fine. We attempted to get another few minutes of sleep when 30 minutes later, another receptionist called to wake us up. She said: "Hello, I'm calling to confirm that you are staying another day." (Huh?) "Yes, I just spoke to someone about that. THANK YOU." Don't they talk to each other? What are those computers for behind the front desk?
Unless you're doing something at the marina across the street, avoid this hotel like poison. There are plenty of other alternatives in the area.
A few other complaints about the room: Sure, it was spacious. But no fridge? No control over the AC? (A sticker read: "Dial 0 to change the temperature".) The room was desperately in need of a makeover. The bathroom was stuck in 1978, with brown tile and gross, blackened grout. And the room itself seemed stuck in 1984, but not in a fun way. Dollar store artwork on the walls and a TV I swear my grandparents owned.

This hotel was an utter disappointment, but then that is what you get when you book on PriceLine.
There was a sign next to the elevator that said that "this hotel contains chemicals that are known to be harmful to humans and may cause cancer"
This is a very old and falling apart building, smells old too.
The rooms although spacious, have no fridge or microwave. the TV is easily 20+ years old.
when we asked if we can use a fridge to store things over night, we were told we must pay $15 more then we can have a fridge sent to our room, what a rip off.
The bathroom faucet handle was broken, you get only hot water out of it too.
The grout around the tiles is almost black.
Our room overlooked Washington BLVD which meant unrelenting constant noise..
The parking ramp is under the building and has a very low ceiling, my SUV although fit through the first gate eventually hit some of the pipes hanging from the ceiling down there.
overall not many positives... i would not recommend this for any one.

I spent all day Monday calling these guys once an hour and getting no answer on their phones. I emailed them and it took over 36 hours to have someone email me back asking me to call and make a booking. Seriously?
I booked another hotel and moved on.

The rooms are large and clean. The patios are spacious. The bungalows are huge. The prices are extremely reasonable. There are restaurants walking distance and they have a pool. Most Marina hotels are either super-luxe, super-pricey or super-dumps. This one manages to be well priced and acceptable to out-of-town visitors. Best of all...no one on the couch!
I stayed in this hotel when I relocated here to LA. I was there about 2 weeks. As far as hotels go, I guess this one was okay. My room was comfortable, clean, and it had a balcony. A little one, but a balcony none the less. The staff at the desk was friendly enough. There is free parking for your car, and as long as you couldn't describe yours as an SUV, you should be fine.
My biggest complaint about the place was the heat! Shit, they must have turned it off to lower costs, only to be turned on again once a vocal tenant moved into the room. They did turn it on, and it was okay after that. But I know there is an issue there because for reasons that are not relevant here, I had two rooms over the time I was in the hotel, and they both had issues with the heat. Not a big deal, and certainly not a deal breaker, but just FYI. YMMV.

We've stayed here a few times. I am not sure as to why, but it is affordable. The rooms are in some serious need of TLC. The I've stayed here twice in the last two years and each time they told us they were in the process of remodeling, but there were no signs of it. This year we moved out to another hotel. I wouldn't go here unless you have no other place to stay.
We were awoken at 4am one night by a group of people in the next room fighting; I honestly thought that bullets were about to fly through the walls. There are a ton of other affordable options in the area.

I ran a bar in LA, and will say... my review is the bar only. Never stayed there, but this joint was walking distance from our houseboat that I lived on, and we would end up here all the time for a nightcap.... and just to see the riffraff and beach hounds and castaways. I know it is a dive. I know it is a dive hotel too.
I have some amazing memories in that place. It just goes to show you.... a place that utterly lacks pretension can build experiences internal to it just fine. THANKS MI!
