Incredible work done both on stage and behind the scenes on Seven Guitars.  It was great seeing Bay Area actors whose work I've come to know and love in several plays, Margo Hall and Toby Windham, along with other fine actors bringing August Wilson's characters to life. The play sings, literally. It's not a musical, but there is a lot of music, the blues in the tunes and the jazz in the speeches. Be warned, it's long, but these are folks I wanted to spend more time with, not less.

And as someone who has spent their share of time in Pittsburgh, the set totally says Pittsburgh to me. You are there!

Thanks to the box office staff for pre-purchase support as well.

What a delightful surprise to discover that Yelp is a significant sponsor of the MTC!

Traipsed over the bridge last night to see Woody Guthrie's American Song. Amazing performances by an incredibly talented cast of musicians, singers and actors.

The house itself is more welcoming and intimate than either of the Berkeley Rep theaters, and looking at the 10/11 season....well, the plays they will be mounting seem more appealing than BR too. I think we'll be back!

Nice, intimate venue putting out consistently great shows.

I've been attending a lot of theater over the past couple of years, but no other venue in the Bay Area makes me as excited as the Marin Theatre Company (though Berkeley Rep comes close).

I discovered MTC just this season because of the Brother/Sister trilogy put on in partnership with ACT & the Magic. MTC started the trilogy with "In the Red and Brown Water," which was one of the most emotional and impactful plays I've seen in ages. They showed it was not a fluke with their equally powerful follow-up "9 Circles." I think it's too late to get a subscription this year, but I'm definitely going to bite the bullet next year.

As far as seating goes, you really can't get a bad seat in either Theater. The Boyer is more traditional, and the Lieberman's partial thrust is more edgy and interesting.

Parking is free & plentiful in the lot next door. Also, they generally have 2pm performances on Saturday and Sunday, which I find to be incredibly convenient because I can usually get to and from the theater without hitting much traffic on the Golden Gate.

If you want to laugh a lot, go see Fuddy Meers at the Marin Theater Company.  I have seen the same play at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland and at Masquers in Pt Richmond and they were good productions but MTC's is GREAT.  You will thank me later after you have seen the play.  It is so funny.

I went to MTC on a Sunday night to see the play Boom.  I should preface by saying that my tickets were comped thanks to the Yelp gang, so my experience was exceptionally pleasant from the onset.

The community theatre is very intimate.  Even though I was seated front row stage left, I don't think there is a bad seat in the house.

There is obviously a great deal of love and devotion to the theatre's success.  We received warm friendly welcomes from all the staff...everyone from the box office clerk to the concessions worker.

A nice touch is the tables and chairs in the lobby where you can enjoy a glass of wine before the production starts or at intermission, and you are welcome to bring your snacks inside the theatre.

It's a little difficult to find if you you don't know the area, so make sure you have GPS or a good map.  Please support community theatre, it's a great alternative to high priced movie night, and usually a lot more fulfilling.

    Beautiful Theater with Amazing Performance!

First time at MTC, for a complimentary Yelp event to see "Boom". Wonderfully entertaining storyline with some very memorable lines at an intimate venue.  Grabbed some wine (and nuts) at the nicely stocked snack bar ahead of time. We were some of the only non-retired attendees in the bunch. "... great thrower of things..." 11/22/09

    Adorable Venue. Will Be Back!

Aww I adore MTC. I've seen countless shows here, usually to support family members' children in summer camp productions, but I've seen Candide here and it was great!

Very tiny and intimate, but extremely well-groomed. I love the plush, bright red seats and the convenient location of this theatre. The ownership changes constantly here, and I sense an upstir of theatre politics amongst the staff, but MTC certainly knows how to put on a show.

They usually have really good plays here. Its very intimate, and opening nights are pretty darn fun. Especially when they are well catered which they almost always are.

The Senior director (if he's still there) was the original director of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. his name is Lee Sancowitz (sp?). He had an acting school here in SF for years before taking on Marin Theater.

If you have a small show or dance team or what have you that you need to rehearse, they sometimes will rent you out a small back room as rehearsal space, and were pretty reasonably priced.

But go here for the plays. They almost never suck.

Saw Chekhov's Seagull, which was amazing. Chekhov always "gets me in the gut" and this production was no exception. I am still thinking about the production a few days later. The theatre itself is a nice space and you can sit in the first row (if tickets available) and not worry about staring up at the actors. High quality of actors they assembled for the Seagull, considering the size of the theater. I was impressed, so will be coming back to see more plays.

Came here for the Yelp Event back in November to see "Boom"...wasn't sure what to expect. I had some what of a drive to get there...came from Hayward. I enjoyed the show, it was different but very entertaining.

The snack bar is cash only, and the only ATM is in a laundry mat down the street & wasn't working (which I was told never really works). So I ended up going to a convenience store next to the laundry mat, which still didn't give cash back & in order for me to use my atm card there they told me I had to spend at least $10.

A nice, professional-looking theater with its own parking lot, MTC provided a very nice evening. The performance ("Boom!") was well-acted and well-staged, which is key when there are only 3 characters. Staff and ticketing were easy to manage and I appreciated the tables set out near the concession stand.

Such a great little theater with excellent productions, little-known here in San Francisco.  Its a very intimate setting and you are very close to the stage.  I've seen four or five plays here, all of them really well done.

I may not be an expert on theater, but I did go to high school, and I did go to a few small performances. The theater has decent seating, there were a few bad spots on the ends, but that's what I get for coming too late. We caught the performance of Boom and it was pretty good for that space. I think if you want to see a good little local show, check out this theater and support your local acty type people!

Fantastic venue - I saw Streetcar on closing night.  Its within walking distance, which is fantastic, and there's always something intriguing playing.  The theater itself is intimate but professional.  The little snack/cafe area was very nice, well stocked with what seemed like homemade goodies and a good selection of pre or mid-performance treats and drinks.  The seats are comfortable, the staff is polite and professional and the space is situated in such a way that its easy to maneuver without feeling claustrophobic.  The temperature inside the main theater fluctuated quite a bit, so its best to dress in layers.  The acoustics were fantastic  - Stanley's "STELLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" reverberated fantastically, and no one was miked.  Its a personal pet peeve of mine when the actors are miked - I realize that in some venues there's no choice, but it's so much less organic that way.

They also have specials and "pay what you can" nights, so its really community-friendly.  I felt like there was a real cross section in the audience rather than a bunch of richie mcrichersons.  Then again, it is Mill Valley, so they probably all WERE richies.   All in all a fantastic experience and one that I hope to repeat soon.

The MTC is a gem and if it ever goes away I think the citizens of mill valley should rise up in armed revolt and bring it back one way or another. The MTC stages plays that have a hard time finding a home other places. I love the fact that they do everything from those cheeky musicals from the turn of the 20th Century to really bold and controversial work like "Splitting The Raft" and the very edgy "Killer Joe." The space and production staff seem to be well suited to each other creating sets that are rich and work with the surrounding walls and seating. It's a great place that is technically adept and produces wonderful shows. I'd recommend a night at the MTC and a burrito from Joe's any day of the week. After the show hobble over tot he 2AM Club for drinks and cavort with the actors. It's an institution, really... go there... now...

A great show last night.  Excellent acting, great direction and the staging was as good as any thing you might see in Ashland  or NYC.  Small intimate stage... the actors really pulled you into their world. See Fuddy Meers!!!

I came here to see a little play last week -- a very cute, intimate venue, where every seat seems to have a good view and is plush and comfy.  Although there were lots of older folks in the crowd, I could see this being a cool date place if you live in the area!  It seems to offer more edgy, interesting work while still managing to pull off universal crowd-pleasers (at least for the Bay Area)!  This might sound silly, but serious PROS (for me) are that there is no annoying intermission break for a 1 1/2 hour long play (THANK you!) AND...wait for it...they let you bring your wine and snacks into the theater to enjoy while you sit back and watch!  That's my kinda playhouse!
