We actually get out of bed a little earlier in order to accommodate a trip to Marin Coffee Roasters on the way to our respective places of work, rather than taking a mid-morning break and going to the local chain coffee store.

Atmosphere is perfect - fits right in to Marin, and whether it is a weekday, with the shop filled with computer-users, newspaper readers, or thesis writers, or a weekend, when if you are not wearing tight-fitting cycling outfits, then YOU are the odd one out - the service and hustle bustle of a popular local coffee/eatery is a pleasure to immerse oneself in to.

We regularly go for latte's which are very nicely prepared, particularly by "the big guy" and "the young guy who recently shaved his head" (really bad at names).  Sandwiches are also great - veggie sandwich is my personal favorite.

This is a place where regulars are remembered along with their drinks, and the banter flows.

Good local art work, and frequent live music.

Definitely worth your patronage - oh and the packets of coffee are highly recommended.

Recently, in an effort to support small local businesses, I have steered away from my Starbucks runs in the morning in exchange for frequenting the local coffee shops.  This brought me to Marin Coffee Roasters several months ago.

Coffee Roasters has a calming laid back atmosphere making it a delightful place to enter, chill and enjoy coffee.  Its location in the heart of San Anselmo is ideal. Benefiting from active foot and bike traffic, the place is often packed with an assorted collection of coffee lovers.  The staff is efficient, polite, and pump out the numerous personal orders with speed and a smile.

Having become a regular, I have noticed that the taste of the coffee is not always consistent.  I am not certain why this is, but am wondering if it is just a variation in the organic coffee beans or if the beans are coming from different sources.  Coffee Roasters has so much going for itself, atmosphere, location, great variety of fresh snacks, salads, and daily specials, it is strange that the coffee itself can sometimes be a little off.

I'm totally into this place! Laid back, clean, funny as hell ("no camping" sign with a wifi signal; Mocha Muffs; Mexican Hash) and just overall very relaxing. Free wifi and yummy peanut butter cookies. Best cafe I've seen in Marin thus far!

I'm a new resident in Marin County, and the Marin Coffee Roasters is an absolutely awesome place to get a wonderful cup of coffee, tea, or even breakfast or lunch.  I try and make any excuse to always swing by and grab a tea, sit with a book and relax.  This is the place to meet a lot of the locals, as everyone is very friendly and welcoming.  Last but not least, the service is excellent!  Always with a smile!  You'll even find live entertainment twice a week!  Absolutely love it and highly recommend it!

I've had enough good espresso over the past 30 years to know what is good and what isn't. I think the beans here are bought on cost rather than quality. It's hard for me to understand why this is the case. With Blue Bottle in the city, The Flying Goat in Healdsburg and Peet's around freaking the corner, I would think that the owner would provide his patrons with quality. He doesn't. I could put up with the swarm of flies and trash on the floor if he put out a good product.

Message to the Flying Goat or any other cafe that uses quality beans: Open a shop in downtown San Anselmo. You will rip every customer from this joint.

The coffee is good, the pastries are decent (can't get over the fact that there's usually a fly or two buzzing around the pastry case), and the morning staff is awesome!  Specifically the morning staff b/c I don't drink much coffee in the afternoon and the last time I went there in the afternoon, the person helping me was sub-par.  If you go after they've just baked chocolate chip cookies, get one!!!  I don't know about the live music that other dude was complaining about, they don't have it all of the time and when they do it seems to add a nice background ambience.

Finally... unsweetened soy, balanced smooth rich espresso. Soy latte Win!

I enjoyed some local musical talent here the other day and have been working my way through the assortment of baked goods they carry - so far so good. Croissants are great if you can nab one in the morning when they're soft and flakey.

One of the best coffee shops in California. I love the laid back atmosphere and great staff. Always a joy to stop there after a bike ride. Excellent people watching spot.

This place *almost* gets what it means to be a good coffee shop: reasonably good coffee, some simple food, a fair bit of seating - and critical for me to even consider it: free wifi and almost enough power outlets....

They fail to understand that I really (really) don't want to be bombarded by their taste in live entertainment.  It's a deal killer - I can't spend anytime there, or tell friends to meet me there because I have no idea when the bad, loud music will begin.

There are plenty of better places in the Ross Valley/San Rafael area to hang out in....until they realize what I don't want in a coffee shop, they have lost my business.

When I walk in, they already know what I want. I like that. It's like Cheers....where everybody knows your name....so they may not know my name, but at least they know my drink. Only problem I've come across is the soy coagulating in my coffee. So I just use the lowfat milk now.

Doing homework, running into people from the neighborhood, people-watching. It's all good.

You can most often find me in the corner of the cafe with a cappucino and lap top. This is my favorite coffee shop for its delicious, rotating brews (Costa Rica and Kuai Peaberry are my favs) and the customer service. If you're a regular, within a week, or so the baristas will start making your drink even before it's time for you to order it.

The weekends are packed with Marinites who just finished a bike ride and those enjoying the amateur live music. Sometimes the music adds an Euro ambiance; other times it's too loud and annoying to listen to pre-morning coffee.

Marin Coffee Roasters fosters a small-town community. I met my boyfriend of two years here and always run into an old or new friend here. You can sit here all day using the free wifi and no one will say anything or shoot you dirty looks.

Marin Coffee Roasters is one of my hometown's many great local cafes. My go-to place for the last year or so, I love dropping in for a cup of Joe while people-watching and taking advantage of their high-speed WiFi offering.

On this trip, I decided to change it up and try their equivalent of Starbucks' mocha frappacino. The actual name escapes me at the moment, but it was basically the same idea. To be honest, I actually like the Starbucks version better as they tend to blend them a bit smoother and the turn out less icy than the Coffee Roasters' take on it.

There are a few things that I would modify about the overall package of Marin Coffee Roasters' offering such as making it more laptop friendly, but all in all, it's another great example amongst the abundant Marin cafes.

Food: 6/10

Service: 6/10

My main goal is to find a good place to work from, hence I rate my establishments based on wifi connectivity, comfort and laptop friendliness.

Pros:
1. Great coffee
2. Good people watching place, the foot and bike traffic that roll by the centre of San Anselmo's main shopping distrct
3. Yummy snacks, It does not offer meals but the brownies I got the other day were great.
4. Takes credit cards (no Amex though)
5. Great coffee

Cons:
1. Poor internet wi fi connection
2. Limited power outlets for laptops
3. Can get crowded and busy... during the weekend they have a live band play which can be great but not if you are trying to work (or pretend to work in my case)

Overall: I shamelessly use coffee shops for their wifi connectivity so it does fit well with my needs. However they have won awards for the quality of their coffee and if you want to chill, hangout and people watch then this would be great venue.

The Coffee Roasters is:

* A congenial coffee house with good coffee, some tasty grub, standard but friendly service, and a nice earthy pre-Starbucks coffee-shop vibe
* A cool place to see local live music on occasional evenings
* A central place to meet up with someone in San Anselmo
* A place to get out of the rain (hmmm ... except during that creek flood last January)
* A caffeine stop before biking over the hill to West Marin

and, sadly ...
* A place to come with your laptop so that you can say you are out of the house but still not need to interact with any non-electronic actual human beings ... except for ordering your coffee.

Sigh.  I know, most coffee shops are turning into computer labs, but I wish for a little more from a cool, earthy Marin coffee shop like this.

I still go.  I still like it.  I don't use the wi-fi though.

I'm giving 5 stars based on fond memories of their old location across the street. That long and narrow hallway to caffeinated heaven would have deserved 6 stars.

Coffee Roasters makes a great espresso drink and they could always be counted to employ at least one sexy hippie chick. Great combo.

This place is like my second living room.   I love to hang out here with a
cafe au lait or a pot of green tea from mighty leaf and read, write in a journal or just hang out with friends.   The coffee is locally roasted and
they do free trade and organic products whenever possible.   The community came together after last years flood on New Years day and
helped to clean and get the place up and running by Monday.
They have local musicians who play on Saturdays and Sundays and often times have evening events as well.   The food is not bad either
espeically like the tomato basil soup.

My favorite coffee place in Marin.  Truly the hub of our town in the mornings, and a great place to socialize, get a GREAT cup of coffee and treats on the weekend.

The music is wonderful too - it makes my day to see the many children dancing with smiles on their faces.

I am a straight coffee drinker, and if you enjoy free trade, organic coffee, this is worth the visit!

I can't believe this place only has one review.  Its the most popular hub in the area.  Everyone hangs out here on Sunday mornings.  The masses of bike riders cruising out to west marin stop here.  Its also got great food and really cool friendly employees.

I have to say that most of this rating is for service.  I only tasted some of my companions food so that I could rate on that too, I ended up going down the street to get food because they were so rude I refused to spend my money there.

I promise to make this as short as I can.  Basically I went there with a group of about five women from my family.  We were indecisive at first so we let the three people behind us go in front of us since they looked like they knew what they wanted and we didn't want to do that "ummm...what do I feel like today" thing that just pisses everyone off.  Of course by the time the first person we let pass started ordering we knew what we wanted but what the heck.  So we are all ordering and paying for ourselves and the guy at the register starts taking orders from the man behind me!  Skipping my aunt ahead of me, my sister after her and myself.  WTF, ok, true I tend to get irritated by bad service, so I allow my sister to convince me that perhaps it was a mistake.  So we wait until the guy takes his order and then my sister politely answers when the guy looks away from us as if we weren't there and asks who is next "I'm sorry we have been waiting" except she doesn't get to finish because the guy decides that the woman behind the man who was behind me is next and takes her order!  The woman looks a little confused and then places her order as I tell my sister I am leaving and walk down the street just around the corner to the cute little mom and pop "Hilda's Cafe" (or something very similar to that name".  The woman there welcomed me very nicely and the cooks were pretty darn quick with my food which I had to take to go since I was so stubborn as to get my food somewhere other then where my family was (cash only).

I tasted some of their food and I grudgingly admit it wasn't bad, not great or anything but definitely not inedible.  I am willing to admit it may taste better when not tainted with the bitterness of injustice! (sarcasm).
