When I first moved to Marin County I was looking for a place to buy the particular hair products that I like. I finally found the only beauty supply shop within a 20 mile radius of my house - - in Strawberry Village.
And once again, Marin County hasn't failed me . . . when you cross into northern Calie it's like you crossed into the land of milk & honey. What makes this place so much more expensive than practically everywhere else?
Yeah, yeah, I know rich & famous folks live here . . . along with us everyday folks. But, I bet my bedroom booties that they don't like the fact that everything is so much more expensive here either. And I would really bet that they don't like the fact that because they live here it makes the prices jump several octaves. Yee-Gads! They didn't get well-off by always paying exorbitant prices for milk, bread, cars, houses . . . and they, I bet, want to keep some of it. . . . . . . . . but, I digress . . . I was talking about a beauty supply place, wasn't I?
Well, once again . . . another one of a kind - the only one in 10 or 15 miles from my house . . . nice folks, good service, lots of products, but damn, once again someone put that "you-live-in-Marin tax" on everything. Why does something that costs 12.50 just a few miles east, cost 16.00 here? It's not like we are out in the boonies and it takes a plane, a train, a truck and a mule to get it to us.
I'm still trying to understand what makes a simple hair care product worth three-fifty more just because it is in Marin?
This beauty supply shop (one of three in Marin owned by the same folks), is located just around the corner from Safeway and it usually has what I want, and the folks are friendly and knowledgable about their products . . . . the only gripe I really have (well besides the jacked-up prices) is that the parking is limited. Whoever designed Strawberry Village sort of forgot that there might be more than 2 or 3 customers and they would probably need to park their cars.
One star down for the parking situation (although I bet they had nothing to do with designing the parking lot) and one down for the exorbitant prices.
As Cheesemonger said . . . shop LOCALLY . . . just sometimes it is hard on the pocketbook & bank account.
Yes, shop here . . . in the long run it is cheaper than driving to Nevada . . . and if it really bugs you . . . move to Kansas.
