Just a brief review, which I was reminded of as I went a few days ago and said I need to update my review here.. then realized I never wrote one the last 5 times I've been here over the last 3 years.
As I mentioned, I've been here a few times for dinner (or just drinks) over the last few years. I've never had a bad experience. Most recently (this week), I was there with some coworkers for dinner.
Two of us had burgers, one had a pizza. All was excellent. Service was quick, non-invasive, and polite.
The crowd on a Wednesday evening was a few local (dare I say older, like 50ish) couples at the bar playing with their ipads on the free wifi (must be trendy professor-baby-boomers from the local college), and some college folks.
There are tables in the bar area that you can watch sports without sitting at the bar, or larger seating areas in the back.
Jukebox is playing but not overly loud.. I have been there on a Thursday night where the band was questionable, though.
Beer selections were great (read the menu for them, not the big big chalk-board of them - as that was written a while back by a servicemember, which they leave up until he returns from Afghanistan. how nice) and inexpensive.Listed in: A work week in Parkersburg

I was referred to "The Brewery" by the desk clerk at my hotel when I asked for the best place in Marietta to get a beer. I agree that the other reviewers captured the essence of the MBC pretty well: it's forgettably agreeable.
I arrived at 7:00 on a Thursday, and the place was fairly empty. The bartender knew his beers and recommended one of the house-brewed beers, "George's First.". Much like the establishment itself, it was kind of like an Owen Wilson movie: a fine diversion, but not likely to be the topic of conversation anytime soon.
I had the Atomic Burger, which might be what they call spicy in Ohio, but I found it bland. The service was prompt and friendly and the female servers were pleasant to look at, so what's to complain about?
If I'm ever in Marietta on business again I would definitely consider returning, as it beats a chain restaurant. -

Holy Hell- how am I the 5th to Yelp this place?
When I'm trapped in the unbearably quaint town of Marietta visiting my parents this is maybe the only place that makes a guy feel a little bit like he's in a real city with, I don't know, a subway line.
I like the atmosphere (never been there for the live music) and the burgers I deem above average for bar food. Big, not gross and greasy, lots of toppings. I've had both the beef and buffalo burgers and been quite satisfied.
Outside burgers and fries I have to agree with the other yelps (seriously, 5 of them?) The spinach artichoke dip was more than a little bland but came with inexplicably delicious warm grilled pita triangles. Other dishes I've tasted have been the same combination of great and meh.
I've been pretty down with the house beers. The IPA and Scotch Ale (8.3%) at Thanksgiving helped ease the pain of driving 9 hours from Chicago. The smokey porter had kind of a flat Guinness with a splash of liquid smoke thing going for it but I always feel that way about smokey beers. Some kind of fruity beer was also surprisingly not awful- and I really hate fruity beers. -

It's a hole in the wall bar. No smoking area anywhere in the place so if you're the standard "smoker-drinker" that frequents bars then you're S.O.L.
Better pricing at the American Legion post down the pike street as well.

Also known as "The Brewery" in town, the Marietta Brewing Company is famous for its Thursday night karaoke (at least with the college kids).
In general, they have some pretty good food at great prices, and its a great place to go for a quick bite and some cold drinks...but nothing compares to the night life on Thursdays. It was always a weekly trip down to the brew with all my Marietta College friends on Thursday nights where everyone would sign up for their turn at the mic! I would only go up when intoxicated and in groups...which is more than welcomed!
Fridays & Saturdays are more risky...they usually feature a band or something and it's hit or miss with the entertainment level. I say that mostly because it wasn't necessarily big for the younger crowd, but more so the older townies. Don't get me wrong, Fri & Sat could still be fun there, but Thursdays were ALWAYS fun. It was the best way to start a weekend.
The atmosphere is pretty cool too. Big old brewing machines, high ceilings, etc. And the staff is pretty good too...nothing to really complain about here!
**Oh, and before I forget. "Woodchuck" is on tap and that is a FANTASTIC cider. Pitchers are 4 or 5 bucks...pretty cheap.
^^October 2007 revisit: No more karaoke on Thursday nights since the old DJ left and they can't find a new one. Apparently Thursday nights are less popular. But a nice little surprise is that they bought a space next door and expanded into a special room that you can reserve for functions. There is a bar in this room as well as an outdoor patio...great space! -

I agree with Spencer L.'s review. Anywhere else this microbrew would be considered average but it's one of the better places to go for a beer and some food in Marietta.
They didn't have much beer selection available when I went in the fall. The beers almost seemed like left overs from the summer, as they featured raspberry wheat, a hefeweizen, and a lager. A week away from Halloween I would expect some more seasonal choices like porter, pumpkin ale, Oktoberfest, or a bock. At least a hearty ale or IPA.
That said, the waiter was good and the food and drinks inexpensive The hefeweizen was as good as any micro that I've had and the buffalo burger and chicken tenders made for tasty brewpub grub. -

Ahhh the Brewery. I agree with Spencer L. In other cities I would say 3 stars but I would recommend it if you are in town. The beer is good and it has been fun when I have happened to be there during a karaoke night. The only problem: since it is the better place to go in town, EVERYONE goes there - from barely 21s to the older bunch - which is fine- but that means every time I have been there it has been a packed house, and nowhere to sit - ever.
Another thing is live bands. I am fine with live performances, but they are always SO LOUD that you can't even carry on a conversation and my ears are borderline ringing when I leave - even at the front of the bar.
If you want to go out and drink, this is a great place to go - they have good beer and decent prices. If you want to meet up with an old friend, might be a little overwhelming.
If I'm in Marietta I'd actually prefer to go to the townie bar down the street. You can run the place and drinks are cheap! Plus you get the real local flavor :) -

I can get down with Andrew E and Spencer L in so far as, for marietta, I guess this place is pretty nice (at least in terms of atmosphere and what they are *trying* to offer). But, we had such an awful experience there a few nights ago that I would much rather stay in then go back to Marietta Brewing Company.
Much of our bad experience had to do with the very slow and extremely rude waiter we had. It wasn't just that though. The food was gross and overpriced for what it was and the beer was CRAPPY. They only had two available when we were there - an IPA and a wheat ale. The IPA was poor to mediocre and the wheat ale just tasted like watered down blue moon.
I could see where this might be a nice place to sit at the bar and have one or two beers. But, you'll get a better deal if you buy a six pack of your favorate beer and just drink at home! -

Probably the best place in town to hang out and not shell out a fortune on beer. I agree with most when they say probably an average brewery if in a different location, but because it's in a small town it deserves 4 stars. The Brewery has a great atmosphere but on the weekends the space can get a little snug. They have some great micro-brewed beers and pitchers aren't expensive. The staff is normally friendly and helpful and it's a go-to place when I'm in town. The food is nothing to write home about but it certainly won't leave you hungry.
It's definitely a popular place with the college kids and any of us locals that have to hang out in the Mid-Ohio Valley on holidays. It certainly holds a special place with me. -

It's there, it's clean, and it's got a fair selection of drinks. I think that's all it really takes to be a good bar in this area.
I've been there a few times when it was almost empty, other times it was so packed you could hardly move (much less find a seat). You really just have to plan around the college crowd.
The food is usually great for bar food, but every now and then (mostly later in the evening) I'll be served something barely edible.
